Hasbro has opened up pre-orders for the first series of the relaunched Starting Lineup action figure line. Series 1 includes 8 modern basketball players. It’s unknown if the series will break out into baseball, football, and hockey in the future. However, if the new line is going to focus only on basketball, hopefully, Hasbro will release waves based on retired sports legends in the future, especially Michael Jordan, Shaq, and Larry Bird.
The initial wave of 6″ figures will include Jayson Tatum, Trae Young, Ja Morant, Joel Embiid, Luka Dončić, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Stephen Curry, and LeBron James. A quick look at the figures tells me a lot. The buck for each player appears to be the same, with only different shoes, paint/decals, and, of course, heads. The level of articulation looks to be on par with the latest versions of Marvel Legends.
The original Staring Lineup line consisted of static figures in various dynamic poses with very limited articulation if any at all. Unlike the original Starting Lineup, the new figures are far more expensive. Each player is $49.99, and they’re expected to ship in December.
Oh, and each figure comes with a “digital Panini” NFT trading card. Click here to read more about the NFTs.

Starting Lineup is bouncing back into action with a game-changing line of NBA toys! Featuring premium design and detail, Starting Lineup is bringing sports action figures into 6-inch scale. Each NBA action figure comes with accessories, including extra hands, a flight stand, and an exclusive Panini basketball trading card that can only be found with Starting Lineup 6-inch figures.
The original Starting Lineup series kicked off in 1988 by Kenner. To say they were toys is a bit of a stretch. As I mentioned earlier, the figures had very limited articulation. These were display pieces through and through.
