Starting Lineup Returns With New Sports Star Figures & NFTs!

0

Hasbro has opened up pre-orders for the first series of the relaunched Starting Lineup action figure line. Series 1 includes 8 modern basketball players. It’s unknown if the series will break out into baseball, football, and hockey in the future. However, if the new line is going to focus only on basketball, hopefully, Hasbro will release waves based on retired sports legends in the future, especially  Michael Jordan, Shaq, and Larry Bird.

The initial wave of 6″ figures will include Jayson Tatum, Trae Young, Ja Morant, Joel Embiid, Luka Dončić, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Stephen Curry, and LeBron James. A quick look at the figures tells me a lot. The buck for each player appears to be the same, with only different shoes, paint/decals, and, of course, heads. The level of articulation looks to be on par with the latest versions of Marvel Legends.

The original Staring Lineup line consisted of static figures in various dynamic poses with very limited articulation if any at all. Unlike the original Starting Lineup, the new figures are far more expensive. Each player is $49.99, and they’re expected to ship in December.

Oh, and each figure comes with a “digital Panini” NFT trading card. Click here to read more about the NFTs.

Starting Lineup is bouncing back into action with a game-changing line of NBA toys! Featuring premium design and detail, Starting Lineup is bringing sports action figures into 6-inch scale. Each NBA action figure comes with accessories, including extra hands, a flight stand, and an exclusive Panini basketball trading card that can only be found with Starting Lineup 6-inch figures.

The original Starting Lineup series kicked off in 1988 by Kenner. To say they were toys is a bit of a stretch. As I mentioned earlier, the figures had very limited articulation. These were display pieces through and through.

Logitech Reveals Its Cloud Gaming Handheld Called ‘G Cloud’

0

Logitech is getting into the cloud gaming scene with their new handheld called … ‘G Cloud.’ Not exactly the most exciting name, but it does let you know exactly what you’re getting. There is a catch, of course. The G Cloud does not have its own library of games like the Stadia. Instead, it relies on subscriptions from other companies. So if you have NVIDIA GeForce Now, Steam Link, or XBOX Game Pass, you’re good to go as long as those services are up and you have a pretty good internet connection. In addition, the G Cloud delivers a 60 Hz fresh rate on a 7″ 1080p 16:9 display.

The G Cloud is currently on pre-order at a discount. Rather than paying $349.99, you can get it for $299.99.

For those worried about the Cloud’s impact on the environment, Logitech states that the product is carbon neutral:

CLOUD is Certified Carbon Neutral. This means the carbon footprint of the product and packaging has been reduced to zero due to Logitech investment in carbon offsetting projects.

From what I’ve seen so far, it looks like a pretty decent device if you’re only looking to do cloud gaming. Unfortunately, you’re out of luck if you want to download games to run on the G Cloud.

Mystique Joins The X-MEN Animated Series VHS Figure Line

Hasbro has announced the next X-MEN: The Animated Series figure, and it is Mystique! The blue-skinned shapeshifter joins Wolverine and the others from the ’90s Fox Kids. Still, you’ll be disappointed if you expect Mystique to come with an alternate head or limbs to represent her shapeshifting abilities. What she does come with is something quite surprising: baby Nightcrawler. Yup. You’ll get Kurt Wagner bundled up with a pacifier. Meanwhile, Mystique has an extra set of gun-gripping interchangeable hands, a pistol, and a rifle. The figure comes in a VHS-inspired box, which is “plastic-free.” Do you know what that means? No display window. Ugh.

The mutant shapeshifter known only as Mystique uses her powers to infiltrate and undermine the X-Men.

Here’s what to expect from the $27.99 figure:

  • CLASSIC ANIMATED X-MEN: The villainous shapeshifter from X-Men: The Animated Series takes on her newest form as the next Marvel Legends 90s animation-inspired figure!
  • INSPIRED BY THE X-MEN ANIMATED SERIES: The 6-inch scale 90s animated Marvel’s Mystique figure features unique sculpting and deco to recreate the character’s classic appearance, right down to her gold skull belt and signature blue skin and yellow eyes!
  • BABY NIGHTCRAWLER ACCESSORY: This Marvel’s Mystique figure comes with alternate hands, weapon accessories…and a certain blue bundle of joy and future X-Man: Baby Nightcrawler!
  • VIDEO CASSETTE-INSPIRED PACKAGING: This Marvel Legends Marvel’s Mystique comes in premium collectible packaging inspired by the classic 90s X-Men: The Animated Series video cassette box covers!

Honestly, this figure is a better addition to the series than the previously announced Morph and, to some extent, the lackluster Jean Grey. I applaud Hasbro for adding the animated X-MEN cast to the Marvel Legends line. Too bad it’s relegated to an online-only purchase, and the boxes don’t allow you to show off the figure. That’s the world we’re in now. Marvel Legends figures are becoming like blind bags where you won’t know if you’re getting the figure you want, if it’s broken, or what it looks like until after you’ve spent $24-$30.

Anime Adventure Film ‘The Princess and the Pilot’ Is Coming To Blu-ray

0

Japanese director Jun Shishido’s 2011 animated romantic adventure film ‘The Princess and the Pilot’ is getting a re-release on blu-ray DVD by Discotek Media. This new edition will feature the original trailer and TV spots for extras with a planned release date of October 25th, 2022.

The movie was produced by the animation studios Madhouse and TMS Entertainment. Satoko Okudera wrote the screenplay while Shirō Hamaguchi scored the film. The movie stars Ryunosuke Kamiki as pilot Charles Karino and Seika Taketomi as incoming Juana del Moral.

It is currently available for pre-order on the Right Stuf Anime store.

You can watch the trailer below:

The movie is based on a 2008 light novel written by Koroku Inumura and illustrated by Haruyuki Morisawa for the Gagaga Bunko publishing company. The magazine ‘Monthly Shōnen Sunday’ would serialize a manga version of the light novel this time illustrated by Maiko Ogawa. It would get a four-volume collector’s set in 2011.

Hikuushi Series Wiki describes the synopsis as follows,

“Koroku Inumura’s original war romance light novel revolves around Charles Karino, a Levamme Kingdom mercenary aerial pilot who mans the twin-seater reconnaissance seaplane Santa Cruz. One day, he receives a surprise assignment: to fly over 12,000 kilometers of enemy waters to protect a girl named Juana de Moral. This mission is actually a covert operation as the original escort was taken down by enemy. Charles eventually discovers that both the original operation and the covert operation have been figured by the enemy decoding military telegraphs sent by the crown prince to Fana.”

It was followed by ‘The Pilot’s Love Song,’ also by Inumura and Morisawa, a light novel series that ran from 2008 – 2011. It too would get an anime adaption in the form of a TV show that would run for one season of thirteen episodes in 2004.

Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling “Mortified” After ‘Barbie’ Set Photos Leaked

After decades of waiting, we’re finally getting a live-action Barbie movie in 2023. Mattel’s doll has been everything from a doctor, to David Bowie, to an astronaut, but has she ever been “mortified?” The actress playing her in the upcoming Greta Gerwig-directed feature film has thanks to photos that leaked during an on-location shoot.

E Online reports that Margot Robbie, on The Tonight Show, relayed the fears to that she and co-star Ryan Gosling had while playing the iconic couple Ken and Barbie. At the three-minute mark of Robbie’s interview with Jimmy Fallon, The Tonight Show host brings out one of the leaked Barbie set photos. Margot’s face shows a slight twinge of unease before she tells Fallon about how she felt once the pics of her and Ryan Gosling in very colorful active wear went viral:

“We look like we’re laughing and having fun, but we’re dying on the inside. Dying. I was like, this is the most humiliating moment of my life.”

I’m not sure why either star worried about this sort of leak. We all know that Barbie has colorful outfits, and Ken usually has a matching getup. If it weren’t for the fashion, would Mattel’s doll have lasted as long as she has? I was glad to see the director leaning into the fun aspects of the toy line rather than making it a gritty downer. Well, that could still be the case since we don’t know the full details of the story. However, I think it’s time we get more upbeat and carefree films, especially when the source material is a toy. I’m sort of burnt out on writers using franchises as therapy sessions.

Barbie is being directed by Lady Bird’s writer and director Greta Gerwig, based on a script she co-wrote with Marriage Story scribe Noah Baumbach. So we should all be glad it doesn’t star Melissa McCarthy or Amy Schumer.

Hulu’s Hellraiser Trailer Has Such Sights To Show You

0

The Cenobites have returned, and it’s thankfully not another direct-to-video flick. Nope. This time the explorers of pleasure and pain are going straight to Hulu!

We’ve caught glimpses of the new Lead Cenobite (Pinhead) here and there throughout the past few months, but finally, we have a trailer. It popped up on YouTube, and I’m pleasantly surprised. While there are several aesthetical changes to the Lament Configuration and the those the boxes calls, it’s a welcome departure from the last batch of films.

A young woman struggling with addiction comes into possession of an ancient puzzle box, unaware that its purpose is to summon the Cenobites, a group of sadistic supernatural beings from another dimension.

Hellraiser will premiere on the streaming service Hulu on October 7th.

It’s always weird to see someone other than Doug Bradley play Pinhead, but Jamie Clayton does look amazing in the role. The VFX artists retained the character’s iconic look while making her oddly sexy. The only thing I dislike is the lack of leather. Rather than decked out in black, it looks like the Cenobites are now dressed only in artistically mutilated flesh.

Aside from Pinhead, the Chatterer also makes a brief appearance alongside another character who doesn’t resemble anyone from the original group of four from Clive Barker’s 1987 original film. The 2022 film is labeled as a reimagining. This makes me doubt the rumors that the new Pinhead is Kirsty. Too bad, because I would have loved to see Ashley Laurence return to the role and become the new leader of Hell as she does in the books.

2022’s Hellraiser is directed by David Bruckner, who had a two-episode stint on Creepshow and directed V/H/S and The Ritual. Both the writing and directing team have relatively few credits to their name. So, I’m hopeful that veteran writer/producer/director David S. Goyer wrote one Hell of a good story for this team to adapt. But, trust me, from years of reviewing low-budget horror movies, certain things raise red flags.

Clive Barker’s overall involvement in the project isn’t apparent. He does have a producer credit, but that doesn’t tell us much. Hopefully, this has his seal of approval. Meanwhile, he is acting as executive producer on the upcoming Nightbreed TV series.

Let us know what you think about the trailer below.

‘Ya Boy Kongming’ Composes An English Dub

0

‘Ya Boy Kongming!’ is a musical comedy manga written by Yuto Yotsuba and illustrated by Ryō Ogawa for the Tokyo-based publisher Kodansha since 2019. Its popularity has led to a 2022 anime adaption produced by the Japanese animation studio P.A. Works and directed by Shū Honma. HiDive has announced they will be producing a dubbed version of all twelve episodes of the series.

HiDive revealed the cast on their website:

  • Kongming – Joe Daniels
  • Eiko – Juliet Simmons
  • Kobayashi “Owner” – David Matranga
  • Narrator – Ian Sinclair
  • Mia Rachael – Messer
  • Mia’s Manager – Brandon Hearnsberger
  • Kabe – Antonio Lasanta
  • Ryo Jack Stansbury
  • Taku – Ronson Hawkins
  • Masa – Benjamin McLaughlin
  • Kondo – Josh Morrison
  • Kondo’s Secretary – Molly Searcy
  • Sekitoba – Orlanders Jones
  • Sasaki – Camryn Nunley
  • BB Bartender – Jeremy Gee
  • Liu Bei – Blake Jackson
  • Lu Xun – Jeremy Gee
  • “Sekitoba” Fan – Labraska Washington

You can watch the trailer for the series below:

MyAnimeList describes the synopsis as follows,

“Zhuge Kongming earned a reputation as one of the greatest tacticians of the Three Kingdoms period of third-century China. Having led his army through countless grueling victories, Kongming falls gravely ill during the Battle of Wuzhang Plains. The weariness and regret stemming from the seemingly never-ending war catch up to him, and as he draws his final breath, Kongming wishes that if he were to reincarnate, he would be reborn in a more peaceful era.

His wish comes true, and Kongming wakes up in modern-day Tokyo with a younger body and his memories intact. Thrust into an unfamiliar world, he finds his way into a nightclub and meets Eiko Tsukimi, an aspiring singer whose performance immediately captivates him. Pitying his confusion, Eiko takes Kongming under her wing and teaches him about the current world, which leads to Kongming’s interest in contemporary music. Seeing Eiko’s immense musical potential, Kongming vows to make the world recognize her and soon takes on the role of her manager.

Unsurprisingly, the music industry is unforgiving to those who make even the slightest mistakes. Still, Kongming is determined to accomplish his goals—even if he must utilize the war stratagems he famously used in his previous life!”

‘Ya Boy Kongming’ won the 2020 Next Manga Award’s U-NEXT award in the web category.

Would You Like Three ‘Street Fighter’ Cammy Statues? Yes, Please!

0

PCS and Sideshow Collectibles are giving us not one but three Cammy statues. The best part of all? She’s in a bikini! Yup. I’ve got no shame. Bikini Cammy has three variants: black bikini, red bikini, and white bikini. Each one comes with a “matching 11×17” art print by artist Edwin Huang.” The statues measure 17.5″ tall and about 9″ wide and deep. Yes, before you ask, Cammy is barefoot … you weirdos. Regardless of which Cammy variant you’d like, each one is $605, and they’re slated to ship between June and August of next year.

The Cammy Season Pass Statue measures 17.5” tall and 9” wide, sporting a summery swimsuit costume between assignments. She casually steps off the sands of a Kanzuki Beach base that is detailed with cattail reeds, gentle blue waves, and an adorable turtle. This expert assassin is all play as she pulls her braided pigtails, ready to cool off from the heat of battle.

Cammy has been a fan favorite Street Fighter character since her debut in Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers. Being a teenager at that time, I remember the only reason my friends and I would pick her was because of the thong leotard. That’s it. Yeah, we were that shallow. What of it? Despite the sexism, Cammy has gone on to be a staple in Capcom’s fighting game series for almost three decades. In ’94, she had a role in the disastrous live-action movie where Australian entertainer Kylie Minogue played her. Cammy had about four minutes total of screen time, sadly.

The funny thing is, Cammy is more entertaining in the video game adaptation of the movie adaptation of the video game. So yes, Kylie also played Cammy in Street Fighter: The Movie: The Video Game:

Cammy’s screen time was even shorter but more fabulous in the animated Street Fighter movie:

Can we get a Kylie Minogue variant to celebrate Street Fighter: The Movie‘s 30th anniversary in 2024?
