Anime Adventure Film ‘The Princess and the Pilot’ Is Coming To Blu-ray

Japanese director Jun Shishido’s 2011 animated romantic adventure film ‘The Princess and the Pilot’ is getting a re-release on blu-ray DVD by Discotek Media. This new edition will feature the original trailer and TV spots for extras with a planned release date of October 25th, 2022.

The movie was produced by the animation studios Madhouse and TMS Entertainment. Satoko Okudera wrote the screenplay while Shirō Hamaguchi scored the film. The movie stars Ryunosuke Kamiki as pilot Charles Karino and Seika Taketomi as incoming Juana del Moral.

It is currently available for pre-order on the Right Stuf Anime store.

You can watch the trailer below:

The movie is based on a 2008 light novel written by Koroku Inumura and illustrated by Haruyuki Morisawa for the Gagaga Bunko publishing company. The magazine ‘Monthly Shōnen Sunday’ would serialize a manga version of the light novel this time illustrated by Maiko Ogawa. It would get a four-volume collector’s set in 2011.

Hikuushi Series Wiki describes the synopsis as follows,

“Koroku Inumura’s original war romance light novel revolves around Charles Karino, a Levamme Kingdom mercenary aerial pilot who mans the twin-seater reconnaissance seaplane Santa Cruz. One day, he receives a surprise assignment: to fly over 12,000 kilometers of enemy waters to protect a girl named Juana de Moral. This mission is actually a covert operation as the original escort was taken down by enemy. Charles eventually discovers that both the original operation and the covert operation have been figured by the enemy decoding military telegraphs sent by the crown prince to Fana.”

It was followed by ‘The Pilot’s Love Song,’ also by Inumura and Morisawa, a light novel series that ran from 2008 – 2011. It too would get an anime adaption in the form of a TV show that would run for one season of thirteen episodes in 2004.
