Hulu’s Hellraiser Trailer Has Such Sights To Show You

The Cenobites have returned, and it’s thankfully not another direct-to-video flick. Nope. This time the explorers of pleasure and pain are going straight to Hulu!

We’ve caught glimpses of the new Lead Cenobite (Pinhead) here and there throughout the past few months, but finally, we have a trailer. It popped up on YouTube, and I’m pleasantly surprised. While there are several aesthetical changes to the Lament Configuration and the those the boxes calls, it’s a welcome departure from the last batch of films.

A young woman struggling with addiction comes into possession of an ancient puzzle box, unaware that its purpose is to summon the Cenobites, a group of sadistic supernatural beings from another dimension.

Hellraiser will premiere on the streaming service Hulu on October 7th.

It’s always weird to see someone other than Doug Bradley play Pinhead, but Jamie Clayton does look amazing in the role. The VFX artists retained the character’s iconic look while making her oddly sexy. The only thing I dislike is the lack of leather. Rather than decked out in black, it looks like the Cenobites are now dressed only in artistically mutilated flesh.

Aside from Pinhead, the Chatterer also makes a brief appearance alongside another character who doesn’t resemble anyone from the original group of four from Clive Barker’s 1987 original film. The 2022 film is labeled as a reimagining. This makes me doubt the rumors that the new Pinhead is Kirsty. Too bad, because I would have loved to see Ashley Laurence return to the role and become the new leader of Hell as she does in the books.

2022’s Hellraiser is directed by David Bruckner, who had a two-episode stint on Creepshow and directed V/H/S and The Ritual. Both the writing and directing team have relatively few credits to their name. So, I’m hopeful that veteran writer/producer/director David S. Goyer wrote one Hell of a good story for this team to adapt. But, trust me, from years of reviewing low-budget horror movies, certain things raise red flags.

Clive Barker’s overall involvement in the project isn’t apparent. He does have a producer credit, but that doesn’t tell us much. Hopefully, this has his seal of approval. Meanwhile, he is acting as executive producer on the upcoming Nightbreed TV series.

Let us know what you think about the trailer below.
