‘The Rising of the Shield Hero’ Season 2 Gets Pushed To Spring 2022

0

The long-awaited second season of the fan-favorite anime ‘The Rising of the Shield Hero’ has been bit by another delay, this time being pushed to 2022.
Funimation wrote on their blog, “Heads up, The Rising of the Shield Hero fans! The highly anticipated Season 2 now has a new release window: April 2022!” They also confirmed that a third season was in the works.
Crunchyroll confirmed the delay citing “various reasons.”
“There’s no specific date beyond that,” they said after confirming the spring goal. “… but further details will be revealed on the official website when they’re ready.”
Funimation added, “The first season, directed by Takao Abo (Norn9) at studio Kinema Citrus and featuring music by Kevin Penkin (Made in Abyss) and character designs by Masahiro Suwa (Chaika –The Coffin Princess- animation director), aired for 25 episodes in the first half of 2019. Masato Jimbo (Restaurant to Another World) will be taking over the director’s chair for Season 2.”
The official English Twitter account also seemingly confirmed that fans will have a longer wait for the continuation of the isekai show.

This comes on the heels of the announcement that ‘The Rising of the Shield Hero’ and its spin-off ‘Reprise of the Spear Hero’ will be getting an audiobook release by their English publisher Yen Press.
As previously reported by D-Rezzed, the audiobook is currently available on Audiobooks, BookBeat, Hoopla Digital, Libro and YouScribe with plans to release it on Audible and iTunes.
“We are excited to finally have the opportunity to offer fans The Rising of the Shield Hero in an audio format,” One Peace Books told Otaku USA in a statement. “Volume 1 is available now at select stores and will be available everywhere soon! We were lucky enough to have Kurt Kanazawa do the reading for us. Kurt’s performance is phenomenal! We really hope returning fans and new fans alike will fall in love with Shield Hero for the first time, or all over again, in this new performance of the first volume of The Rising of the Shield Hero!”

Shogun Godzilla Revealed At Spectacular Kinda Sorta Still-at-Home-ic-Con

The classic Shogun Godzilla from 44 years ago is back, in a much smaller form. Super7 is giving life to this classic toy with a 3.75″ tall version complete with flicking flame tongue and that evergreen skin. He’s the perfect scale to terrorize all those Sequel Trilogy Star Wars figures you’ve probably got lying around.
Super7

This green 3.75” Super7 Spectacular Kinda Sorta Still at Home-ic-Con Godzilla ReAction figure is modeled after the classic Shogun toy and features a spring-loaded retractable flame tongue! In special throwback packaging, it’s just like the Shogun Godzilla you remember, only much smaller! Adding this Shogun Godzilla ReAction figure is a far more manageable way to incorporate The King of Monsters into your Kaiju collection!

The Shogun figure should look familiar to those who grew up in the 1970s and early 1980s. The original was around 20″ tall. Godzilla had a flaming “tongue” and a rocket hand. Yup. Godzilla’s hand was springloaded and would fire off. Weird selling point? Sure, but it made it a memorable toy.
Today the original toy goes for $400 and up on eBay. I wouldn’t consider these super rare, but if you’re looking to get one make sure that it’s not a reproduction. The toy saw a resurgence in 2015 when Toynami launched their own version. This updated take on Mattel’s toy saw the King of Monsters receiving a new head sculpt and more Toho-faithful coloring.
Oh, and there will be new t-shirts, too!

Super7

You may recognize this shirt from a popular sitcom about a group of comic-con loving friends! Check out the Toho Rorschach tee, originally designed by Super7’s Brian Flynn over a decade ago!

Super7

Godzilla body slams the Smog Monster in this Super7 tee honoring the 50th anniversary of Godzilla vs. Hedorah!

Shogun Godzilla will be priced at $25. Each t-shirt goes for $30.

Pre-orders for the Godzilla goodies and more start on July 21st at noon PT. Head on over to Super7 now and get your list ready!

What other Toho monsters should join the Shogun series? I’m personally hoping for a Jet Jaguar with light-up eyes, or maybe he’ll sing his MST3K theme song! Let us know in the comments.

‘Joran: The Princess of Snow and Blood’ Director Discusses The Anime’s Inspiration

0

‘Joran: The Princess of Snow and Blood’ is an original anime that aired in Japan made by Bakken Record production company. It tells an alternate history fantasy where a terrorist group is stealing blue blood from “Changelings” so they can overthrow the Japanese government. One woman stands in their way.
Crunchyroll, who now has distribution rights, interviewed the director of the series to get insight into the inspiration behind the show.
“When you’re not adapting source material, there’s the upside of getting to determine everything about the story, setting, and visuals yourself, and the downside of not having a built-in hook with the audience, and I think that managing that balance can be pretty difficult,” director Susumu Kudo said on directing an original anime.
He explained, “When you’re not adapting source material, there’s the upside of getting to determine everything about the story, setting, and visuals yourself, and the downside of not having a built-in hook with the audience, and I think that managing that balance can be pretty difficult.”
We were very intentionally creating a structure where every four episodes would cover a single “chapter,” with three chapters in total, and an exciting climax at the end of each, with a story that really moves along quickly,” he explained how the show is designed. “I attended theater performances as a student for class, but after graduating, it’s been all movies for me.
When asked what he thought was unique about the show, Kudo replied, “The story being based on a fictionalized version of actual Japanese history, and it providing a unique background where a dramatic story unfolds is its biggest charm.”
‘Joran: The Princess of Snow and Blood’ is set in an alternate historical Japan, the 64th year of the Meiji era (1931 A.D.), where the shogun Tokugawa Yoshinobu continued to reign over Japan instead of handing over power to a Prime Minister. Series protagonist Sawa “Yuki” Yukimura reluctantly works for the secret police known as Nue to stop a terrorist group called the Kuchinawa from stealing blue blood from citizens in order to overthrow the government.

‘The Suicide Squad’ Producer Discusses The Film’s Status As A Reboot

0

James Gunn’s entry into the DC Extended Universe, ‘The Suicide Squad,’ is the third film to feature Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, following David Ayer’s ‘Suicide Squad’ and Cathy Yan’s ‘Birds of Prey.’ There has been some debate over whether this upcoming feature would be a sequel, making a Harley Quinn trilogy of some sort.
Speaking with Collider, producer Peter Safran finally shed some light, explaining that ‘The Suicide Squad’ will “ignore” previous DCEU movies.
When asked if it will explore Harley Quinn’s tumultuous relationship with the Joker, he gave a simple, “No.”
“We don’t address it,” he said. “We just don’t address it in any tangible form. Yes, they’re the characters [and] the actors that played them in the first movie. But we really wanted to make sure that this stands on its own two feet. So, again, it’s why… it’s not a sequel, but there are some characters that were in the first movie, right? So it’s not really a full reboot either. So we just call it James Gunn’s ‘The Suicide Squad.'”
When asked if ‘The Suicide Squad,’ would be a sequel to David Ayer’s film, he again stated that Gunn’s movie is a standalone feature having no connection to its predecessor. Safran explained that is how it was pitched to the studio.
“[The studio’s decision to return to the property] was driven in large part by James Gunn’s sudden availability that started July of last year,” he explained. “I always felt like it’s an incredible property and when I talked to James about it, his initial reaction was, ‘I’m not sure. Let me think about it.’ He thought about it a little bit and, mind you, it was just like, ‘Listen, who’s better to bring together a disparate group of outsiders on a mission? James Gunn.'”
Safran continued, “That was my pitch to him and his ultimate reaction was, ‘Ask Warner Bros. if I have to be bound by anything that has occurred before, any characters, or anything off-base, or can I just start from scratch?’ And the reaction was, ‘We want Suicide Squad from the mind of James Gunn.’ That’s what it is. So not a sequel. It’s not a reboot. It’s just James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad.”
The movie is set to be released on August 6, 2021 and stars Idris Elba, John Cena, Joel Kinnaman, Sylvester Stallone, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, and Peter Capaldi.

Superman Actor Dean Cain Blasts Captain America Comic Slamming The American Dream

Marvel Comics’ new series “The United States of Captain America” has faced some backlash from a handful of fans for a bizarre inner monologue given by Steve Rogers. ‘Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman’ star Dean Cain was among those who slammed the comic book.
“…The first American dream is the one that isn’t real. It’s one some people expect to just be handed to them,” Captain America opines in the first issue. “When the truth is, it never really existed in the first place… other cultures. Immigrants… We’re at our best when we keep no one out. A good dream is shared. Shared radically. Shared with everyone. When something isn’t shared, it can become the American lie.”
In an interview with Fox News, Cain stated that it is the “cool, the fashionable thing to do is to bash America and to hate America.” He added that “wokeness” is becoming pervasive in the entertainment industry and that he is tired of “anti-Americanism.”
“I am on the exact opposite side of the fence. I love this country. It’s not perfect,” Cain continued. “We are constantly striving for a more perfect union, as we all know. But I believe she’s the most fair, equitable country ever with more opportunity than anyone’s ever seen. And that’s why people are clamoring to get here from all over the globe.”
This is not the first time that Marvel Comics has tried to distance Captain America from his country. The 1970s and 1980s saw similar story-arcs where Cap split with the United States. He would often take on the title The Captain or Nomad during this time. In 2019, the “Captain of Nothing” arc had this theme of Steve Rogers leaving the shield behind.
One of the most infamous examples is the “Secret Empire” where Captain America is revealed to be a Nazi sleeper agent in Hydra. This story was retconned in the final issue as the story proved unpopular with fans.

Prepare to Protect and Serve In RoboCop: Rogue City

A new RoboCop game? After all these years? A new RoboCop game from the developers behind the excellent Terminator: Resistance?! Yes, I’ll take two, please!
The last time we saw a RoboCop game based on the original franchise was back in 2003. It was a sad affair. Trust me. Don’t go buying a copy out of curiosity. That game was awful. It was no Dredd VS Death.
We spotted the title’s details over at Steam, and thanks to IGN for this shareable reveal trailer.

Teyon is the developer of RoboCop: Rogue City. This company managed to capture the essence of the first two Terminator films while also expanding on the future resistance movement. It may not have been a AAA release, but the game was an enjoyable ride. This may also give us some insight into what we can expect from RoboCop: Rogue City.
Resistance split the story up into medium-sized levels throughout war-torn LA. Rather than giving you the UbiSoft treatment, Teyon tailored each map for specific parts of the story they were telling. Sometimes you’d infiltrate. Sometimes you’d full-on assault Skynet. And sometimes, you’d run away from an infiltrator unit.
I can see these types of situations occurring with RoboCop, except for the fleeing part. You’ll probably get to explore portions of Detroit as you eliminate certain targets, bust up drug manufacturing plants, or deescalate hostage situations … by plowing through walls. Would you mind not quoting me on any of that? I’m just speculating.

Become the iconic part man, part machine, all cop hero as you attempt to bring justice to the dangerous, crime-ridden streets of Old Detroit. Armed with your trusty Auto-9, factory-built strength, years of experience on the force and a variety of tools at your disposal, you will fight forces seeking to destroy the city you call home in an all new first-person, explosive hunt for the truth.
You have the power to decide how to fulfil prime directives in your own way, but as the story unfolds proceed with caution because corruption and greed know no limits.
Prepare yourself to… PROTECT THE INNOCENT AND UPHOLD THE LAW.

Excited? Let us know what you’re expecting from this game? A flying section? Tricking ED-209 units into tumbling down flights of stairs? Shooting corporate businessmen? Put your thoughts in the comments, creep.

A Galvatron Of Classic Colors Joins The Transformers War For Cybertron Line

Several different interpretations of Galvatron have been issued by Hasbro over the years. Unfortunately, I remember the original from the ’80s been expensive; thus, I didn’t have one. My buddy Greg did, though.
One thing that struck me as odd was Galvatron’s color scheme. In the Transformers movie from 1986, the resurrected Megatron was purple and gray. The toy was red, white, gray, and a small amount of purple. He was very tube-shaped as well. That was mainly for his cannon transformation. Not exactly the coolest figure, but he did come with lights and sounds. Thunderous sounds.
Well, to celebrate the weird color choices found on the original toy, Hasbro is releasing a War For Cybertron Galvatron sporting red, gray, and purple. We spotted Unicron’s minion over at Entertainment Earth, where he is exclusive.

Behold, Galvatron – in retro colors! This G1-inspired toy converts into cannon mode in 33 steps and comes with Particle Beam cannon and 2 side cannon accessories that attach in both modes. But what you’re going to love is that it comes in the grey colors of the original 1980s toy! The Matrix of Leadership accessory can hang around the Galvatron figure’s neck. Transforms in 33 steps. Intimidates your Sweeps, possibly your Unicron.
Transformers Generations Selects Leader WFC-GS27 Galvatron includes green Matrix of Leadership on chain accessory. This figure comes with a sheet of foil labels, including a heat-sensitive sticker that reveals the Decepticon shield when you rub it with your finger. Not responsible for time hopping and changes to the space-time continuum.

We found a photo of the original Galvatron toy over at Wheeljack’s Lab for comparison.

Galvatron will ship in October of this year. Being an exclusive, he’s pretty reasonably priced. The mauler of Ultra Magnus is only $52.99. Click here to pre-order yours now.

‘Fear Street 1994’ Director Leigh Janiak Discusses One Of The Film’s Most Gruesome Death Scenes

The first film in the Netflix horror ‘Fear Street’ trilogy featured one of the most gruesome death scenes in the climactic battle. Without giving away too many spoilers, let’s say it involved one of the victims getting killed after being shoved in a bread slicer.
‘Fear Street 1994’ director Leigh Janiak broke down this scene in an interview with Collider where he discussed how he could make it seem more realistic.
“I don’t remember the genesis of it,” he said. “I remember that we were very excited about having our climax of the 90s take place in a grocery store. Part of the fun of the 90s movie for me was being able to kind of take suburbia and take these places that are really familiar and tear them apart and destroy them, so I loved the idea of being able to be in the grocery store. We kind of went through this whole thing of, the characters have different areas of the store that they’re in and they’re all trying to protect Sam, and Kate ended up in the bakery.”
He continued, “I have these weird things that I like, like I like the idea of cake mixing with blood. I just think it’s a cool image and so at one point we just started riffing on what could happen in that sequence and then we came up with the bread slicer. It was one of those things that when you’re reading it, it’s horrible, but then you get closer to doing it and you’re like, ‘Wait, this is actually crazy,’ and, ‘How are we gonna do this?’”
Apparently, several members of the crew doubted that this possible, so they tested the effect with a watermelon.
“There were all of these conversations with our art department – with Scott [Kuzio], with Sean [Brennan], with Jess [Royal] – being like, ‘I don’t think a human head would really do that.’ They were like getting at me,” Janiak explained. “They were like, ‘I don’t know. This is a little unbelievable.’ And I was like, ‘It’s f****** cool so we’re gonna do it!’ And then they bought a bread slicer. They wanted to prove me wrong so they had this idea that they were gonna throw watermelons through this bread slicer and they were convinced that it wouldn’t work, and the watermelon just went right through.”
He added, “It was a big cheer moment, like we were at the production office and everyone just started clapping and cheering and it was amazing! And so then everyone was sold that this could happen.”
‘Fear Street Part 1: 1994’ is inspired by a series of books by R.L. Stine. The second part of the horror trilogy ‘Fear Street Part 2: 1978’ is set to be released on Netflix on July 9th, 2021.

Quentin Tarantino Purchases Iconic Los Angeles Movie Theater

‘Once Upon A Time In Hollywood’ director Quentin Tarantino has bought an iconic piece of Los Angeles’ cinema history in the form of the Vista Theater. The establishment is a single-screen theater where they mainly show new films and now it has been purchased by the director of ‘Jackie Brown’ following its closure due to the pandemic lockdowns.
“I bought the Vista on Sunset,” Tarantino told Armchair Expert podcast host Dax Shepard according to Deadline. “We’ll probably open it up around Christmas time. And again: only film. It won’t be a revival house. We’ll show new movies that come out where they give us a film print. It’s not going to be like the New Beverly. The New Beverly has its own vibe.”
“The Vista is like a crown jewel kind of thing,” he continued. “We’ll show older films, but it will be like you can hold a four-night engagement.”
Tarantino elaborated that he felt chain theaters “have taken all the specialness out of movies.” He hopes that “boutique cinemas” might “thrive in this time.”
“Some of these chains where they’re showing commercials all through it, they don’t turn the lights down, everything is stadium seating, plastic shit,” ‘The Hateful Eight’ director said. “They have been writing their own epitaph for a long time, but they assumed the business would take you along. It’s been crazy throughout my career to see how the film experience is lessened for the viewer like every five years.”
He added that he was “not talking about the La-Z-Boy, order nachos and margaritas. I actually like the Alamo Drafthouse a lot, but I have a living room. I want to go to the theater.”
The Vista Theatre was originally founded in 1923 as a single-screen cinema on Sunset Boulevard in Los Feliz. The first film that played there was ‘Tips,’ a silent film starring Baby Peggy.
