Spider-Man’s Throwback Cyber Suit is a Hot Toys Toy Fair Exclusive

Spider-Man. Spider-Man. He has the oddest costume variation of any mutated human. Can he look like cringe from 1990? Yes, he can … by crickey? Does that work as a rhyme?
Spider-Man is no stranger to weird costumes. Of course, we’re not talking strictly about Peter Parker’s alter-ego. His clone had a strange costume when he was introduced, too. All red with a blue sleeveless hoodie and ankle pouches? Really?
Today we’re looking at a new Toy Fair exclusive. Hot Toys is going to be giving us a real obscure Spidey suit that had a short run in 1990 and then went more or less forgotten until it popped up in a recent video game.
Over at Figures.com, we got all the details about the Cyber Spider-Man costume. It’s quite retro if you remember the cybernetics obsession in comics during the ’90s.

Cyber Spidey will come with the following features and accessories:

  • Newly developed masked head sculpt with LED light up left eye (green light, battery operated)
  • (3) interchangeable right eye pieces that can create different combinations of Spider-Man’s expressions
  • (10) pieces of interchangeable hands including:
  • (1) pair of fists
  • (1) pair of opened hands
  • (1) pair of web shooting hands
  • (1) pair of cobweb swinging hands
  • (1) pair of gesture hands

The cyber suit is a callback to Spider-Man issue 21 from 1990. An injured Spidey is “repaired” and fitted with a cybernetic arm and a load of those pouches. Pouches and metal arms were huge in the early ’90s comic books. Artist Erik Larsen could draw some amazing-looking metallic appendages during his time at MARVEL Comics.

MARVEL Comics
The suit showed up as part of a DLC pack for Sony’s exclusive Spider-Man game. This version of Spidey would also show up randomly in various cartoons and toylines. Check out the video below to see the suit in action in the game.

What should other outfits from Spider-Man’s history get their own Hot Toys figure? Multi-arm Spidey? Fisherman Spidey? Yes, it exists. Let us know in the comments.

Optimus Prime Clashes With Optimus Primal In War for Cybertron: Kingdom

The trailer for the third part of Netflix’s ‘Transformers: War for Cybertron‘ trilogy is out now! As the name would imply, Kingdom will see the Autobots and Decepticons come face to face with their future counterparts from Beast Wars.
This didn’t come as much of a surprise, though, as the toys for this series were on toy shelves months ago. Both Maximal and Predacon figures popped up earlier this year, but now we know the full extent of how the two generations will come together thanks to the new trailer.
This comes exclusively from Collider.

Netflix has released the first trailer for Transformers: War for Cybertron: Kingdom, the third and final chapter in the War for Cybertron trilogy that hails from the streamer, Hasbro, and Rooster Teeth — and Collider is exclusively revealing the trailer today. The all-new original series offers a strikingly different animation style that depicts the Transformers like never before, and takes us deep into events at the heart of a long-beloved franchise.
Transformers: War for Cybertron: Siege kicked off the series last July, which begins in the waning hours of the war between the Autobots and Decepticons. The events that have torn apart the home planet of Cybertron are quickly reaching their breaking point, and Optimus Prime and Megatron both want to save their world and their people — but only by their own terms. Megatron considers taking desperate measures to save the Decepticons by using the Allspark, which will reformat the Autobots. The story continued in Transformers: War for Cybertron: Earthrise, which aired on Netflix the following December and follows the Autobots’ fight to save Cybertron both on their planet and aboard the Ark.
Now, per the Kingdom trailer, the Autobots will find a surprising new ally when characters from Beast Wars: Transformers make their official debut. Rooster Teeth (RWBY, gen:LOCK) produces the original series for Netflix, and Polygon Pictures (Godzilla, Knights of Sidonia) is serving as the animation studio. Transformers veteran F.J. DeSanto (Transformers: Titans Return, Transformers: Power of the Primes) serves as showrunner on the series with several contributing writers, including George Krstic (Megas XLR), Gavin Hignight (Transformers: Cyberverse), and Brandon Easton (Agent Carter, Transformers: Rescue Bots). Transformers: War for Cybertron: Kingdom, the third and final chapter in the War for Cybertron trilogy, premieres July 29 on Netflix.

They also released a visual which was shared on the official English Twitter page, which included a note that more information on the release date would be “coming soon.”

Anime News Network reports that the movie is being made by A-1 Pictures and is based on a series of light novels ‘Sword Art Online: Progressive’ by author Reki Kawahara which retells Kirito and Asuna’s journey through the first floors of Aincrad as he and the others trapped inside make a desperate attempt to escape the virtual world they are trapped in.
Ayako Kawano is directing the movie with Yoshitsugu Matsuoka and Haruka Tomatsu returning to voice Kirito and Asuna, respectively. Inori Minase is joining the cast as a new character named Mito.

Two thousand players are already dead. Kirito and Asuna are two very different people, but they both desire to fight alone. Nonetheless, they find themselves drawn together to face challenges from both within and without. Given that the entire virtual world they now live in has been created as a deathtrap, the surviving players of Sword Art Online are starting to get desperate, and desperation makes them dangerous to loners like Kirito and Asuna. As it becomes clear that solitude equals suicide, will the two be able to overcome their differences to find the strength to believe in each other, and in so doing survive? Sword Art Online: Progressive is a new version of the Sword Art Online tale that starts at the beginning of Kirito and Asuna’s epic adventure–on the very first level of the deadly world of Aincrad!

G.I. Joe’s Roadblock Joins Mezco’s One:12 Collective, No Body Massage Included

Fensler Films has forever ruined my perception of G.I. Joe. The dubs of classic Joe PSAs were memes before memes were a thing. That’s not to take anything away from the G.I. Joe franchise, and it’s still great. But every time I see Roadblock, I can only think of, “Who wants a body massage?”
Nevertheless, Mezco is producing a badass-looking Roadblock in the company’s One:12 Collective line of ultra-detailed, highly articulated figures. Check him out!

Do You Abide By This Action Figure of The Dude?

Oh, what’s that? So the Big Lebowski was released in theatres 23 years ago? Huh. Ya don’t say. Well, it feels like only yesterday that we kept sneaking in to watch it. Since it was released in January, my friends and I had not yet turned 18.
This was at a time when theatres actually cared if minors got into ‘R’ rated films. I saw a half of a theatre ejected from American Pie when the manager and ushers came in to check IDs. I wouldn’t want someone seeing a booby or hearing a dirty word now…
More than two decades on, The Big Lebowski is a well-loved film with its own events and a massive, dedicated following. Over the years, there have been a few action figures of The Dude or Walter here and there. Nothing I’d consider on the same level as a Sideshow or Hot Toys piece of art, though.
We shall wait no longer, as that very same company will at some point in the future deliver The Dude to us in glorious Jeff Bridges detail.

Sideshow
Sideshow
Sideshow
Sideshow only gave us a teaser. However, we were able to find more pictures of The Dude over at Figures.com.
The Dude is not an accessory heavy figure. I know this is a step away from what we’re used to seeing with Sideshow 1/6th scale releases, but The Dude wasn’t about all that stuff, man.
He’s a simple guy and will get by with just the following items:

  • Four White Russians.
  • One pair of sunglasses.
  • A pair of clear sandals.
  • A base with a nice carpet pattern.

The Big Lebowski line of figures also features a few do-it-yourself characters too. If you want to add Donny to your collection, get some ashes and an old coffee tin. For The Toe … well, I can get you a toe.
No price or release date has been announced yet. You can, however, head over to Sideshow and RSVP The Dude now.

What other characters from the classic Coen Brothers film would you like to see on a 1/6th scale? The real Big Lebowski? Brent? Spine not included with that one. A trio of nihilists? Let us know in the comments.

New From Iron Studios: Doc Brown and Marty Frozen In Time

0

“The only problem is we’ll never be able to show it to anybody.”
It was very fitting that Doc Brown and Marty were around to witness the first seconds of the clocktower’s timepiece in Back to the Future III. Now that moment of serendipity can be yours, thanks to Iron Studios.
Standing roughly 12″ tall, this moment of their friendship is a nice departure from the typical BTTF merchandise. No Delorean or hoverboard, just Doc and Marty standing by the clock that would forever bind them as friends and time travelers.

Iron Studios wastes no time and presents a new Back to the Future statue!
The young Marty McFly and his best friend, Doctor Emmett “Doc” Brown, formally dressed in 19th-century attire, pose for a photo during the Grand Clock Tower Opening Party in Hill Valley in 1885.
The big time meter, the famous clock with Roman numerals, is supported by a rustic wooden box. The protagonists of “Back to the Future” are right in front of it, standing on a base with elements and machinery that resemble an old locomotive, another striking machine, and presented in the third film of the saga. With a plaque having the movie’s logo at the bottom of the base, Iron Studios proudly presents its new statue “Marty and Doc at the Clock Deluxe Art Scale 1/10 – Back to the Future III”.

This limited edition work of art features the following:

  • Based on original movie references
  • Made in polystone – *(may contain parts in resin, polystone, PVC, metal, and fabric)
  • Hand Painted
  • Product dimensions: 11.8” (H) x 10.6” (W) x6.3” (D)
  • Product Weight: 8.8 lbs

The statue of the time-traveling duo is priced at only $299. Click here to pre-order yours. This piece of BTTF history will be available sometime between June and September of 2022.

MotU Classics Faker Figure Comes With The Classic He-Man Head!

Bruh. I’m getting tired of not being able to find Masters of the Universe figures in stores. Target sure does have lots of He-Man and Skeletors readily available, but that’s usually it. I’ve found the occasional Hordak and Ram Man, but no one else.
The series is now on Wave 5, and it has one of the figures I’ve been looking forward to the most: Faker!
Why Faker? He has a great color scheme! Orange and blue! Sure, those may be UF colors, and I’m a Seminoles fan, but they’re just so appealing on this evil android version of He-Man.
The other thing that has me excited for this guy is that he comes with the classic He-Man head. I’m not sure why the Wave 1 He-Man came with such a weird-looking face, but it’s nice to see the classic pop up here and in the Battle Armor deluxe figure as well. So, you can swap them out … if you can find them.
Faker, a minion of Skeletor, was a simple figure to produce back in the day of the original toyline. But then, it was just He-Man with Skeletor’s chest armor and a tape deck decal on his chest. A couple of dye jobs, and you’ve got a whole new figure for the ranks. Man, I love the toy industry!

Mattel
Click here to pre-order your Faker from Entertainment Earth. For more info on Faker’s history as an action figure, check out this video from the director of the Classic’s line, Scott Neitlich.

Now that we’ve reached the fifth wave and many well-known characters have been accounted for, who do you want to see next in the Origins line? More villains from the Evil Horde? Maybe start bringing in some more heroes from the She-Ra line? The proper She-Ra, not that weird therapy session Netflix pretends was She-Ra. Let us know in the comments.

Super7 Releases The Mutant’s Vision of a Bloody Law Giver

Beneath the Planet of the Apes is a great flick. The symbolism, the twisted reveal of the surviving humans’ true forms, and the ultimate destruction due to Zaius’s pride all make for one hell of a ride.
As the film reaches its climax, the apes are confronted with visions of fire, death, and the statue of the Law Giver seeping blood. It’s a great scene, though a bit shoddy on the special effects.
As part of Super7‘s Re-Action line of Planet of the Apes figures, they are releasing a version of the Law Giver spattered with bright red blood. At 5.75″, this statue stands about 2″ taller than the others in the line.

Super7

Lawgiver is so revered among the Apes that when an image of his statue begins to bleed in Beneath the Planet of the Apes it makes the Gorilla Army panic and despair. Only the desperate urging of Dr. Zaius is able to restore order and rally the Apes. This 5.75” Planet of the Apes Bloody Vision Lawgiver ReAction figure depicts the Apes’ religious icon along with his sacred scrolls, drenched in blood, as shown in what has become one of the most iconic moments from the Planet of the Apes franchise. While that image proved to be an illusion, this ReAction figure is very real and will be a compelling addition to your Planet of the Apes collection.

This series of figures has been on the down-low for a few years now. I think at least two years have passed since Super7 released anything associated with the Apes franchise. Does this mean we’re going to be seeing more figures or re-releases?
The Law Giver is currently available on Super7’s website. He will run you $20.

What other characters from the Apes franchise should get this retro treatment? Maybe a temple with the holy atomic bomb? A destroyed Statue of Liberty playset with some Spaceballs thrown in for good measure? Let us know in the comments.

Sideshow Premium Format Figures Line Adds Two Hammer Horror Icons!

Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee arise from their graves thanks to Sideshow. The pair, who had a lengthy run as horror icons in Hammer’s cult classic films, is back and looking good!
The Horror of Dracula was released in 1958 and started a wave of movies starring both actors. Though Lee grew tired of playing Dracula into the 1970s, he did appear as other monsters in Hammer’s films. Lee also portrayed the Mummy in 1959 and Frankenstein in 1957.
Peter Cushing also appeared multiple times as Dr. Van Helsing, though not always the same character. The Dracula stories spanned through different centuries, but Cushing would return to play a descendant of the vampire hunter.
We first glimpsed these over at Sideshow’s site, but there was little information. However, Figures.com had all the details about just how premium these premium format figures would be. What immediately caught my eye were the finely tailored clothing both figures sported. That is some detailed stitching on these 22″ tall figures!

Sideshow | Hammer

The Dracula Premium Format Figure measures 22.25” tall, and stands on top of a stone-effect base bedecked with Gothic gargoyles. Sculpted with an incredibly detailed likeness of actor Sir Christopher Lee as the iconic and otherworldly Count, this statue’s portrait features his piercing bloodshot eyes, shining fangs, a bloody mouth, and his signature slicked-back hairstyle.

Sideshow | Hammer

The Van Helsing Premium Format Figure is a mixed media horror collectible with an exquisitely tailored fabric costume, consisting of a black suit jacket and suit pants along with a red vest, a white collared dress shirt, and a necktie. An elegant faux fur-trimmed coat completes the costume, while his leather-like gloves and black dress shoes are sculpted with extreme realism to complement the fabric elements. Armed with a crucifix in one hand and a hammer and stake in the other, Van Helsing has all the tools with which to face the dreaded vampire!

The bloodshot eye version of Lee’s Dracula is an iconic image, but I hope he comes with an alternative head displaying the legendary actor’s charming smile. Much like Bela Lugosi, Lee’s portrayal of Dracula is all in the eyes.
There is no release date yet, but if you head on over to Sideshow, you can RSVP for these bad boys now!

Now that we’re on the subject of handsome Draculas, when can we get a Frank Langella version? His version of the vampire in the 1979 film was possibly the best interpretation of the character on film. That may be sacrilege, but it is an opinion I’m willing to keep as a horror journo of many years.
