Sylvester Stallone’s likeness and torment have been captured perfectly by ThreeZero in this brand new Rambo: First Blood figure. Ted Kotcheff’s adaptation of First Blood kicked off a franchise that survived decades from its 1982 release. Then, the name ‘Rambo’ became synonymous with over-the-top bravery and extreme violence against an enemy. The man himself also became an icon in children’s media, as many R-Rated characters did in the ’80s.
Rambo got his own video games on the NES and C64. The man even got his own toy line, which was based on his Saturday morning cartoon!

Though Rambo’s adventures into these other forms of media weren’t as successful as Robocop’s or Freddy Krueger’s, he still lived on without being painfully rebooted. Except for the latest film, Last Blood, the movie franchise was pretty great.
What are your thoughts on Rambo as an IP? Does it need more stuff like video games or branded sleepwear? Let us know in the commetns.

‘Darkhawk’ Reboot Writer Discusses New Marvel Comics Series

0

Comic book writer Tom DeFalco and artist Mike Manley debuted a new character for Marvel Comics known as Darkhawk in his own series written by Danny Fingeroth. The comic follows Chris Powell, who finds an alien amulet that activated a superpowered armor that gave him superpowers. He would serve with the New Warriors and with the West Coast Avengers, battling some of their worst enemies.
With Powell surrending the amulet earlier this year, writer Kyle Higgins and artist Juanan Ramirez are bringing a new face to the Darkhawk armor with Connor Young, “a different type of hero facing unique challenges.”
“I had a passing familiarity with the character. The design, more than anything else. I remember seeing him in NEW WARRIORS,” he told Marvel Unlimited. “Then, about a year ago, I was talking to Ryan Parrott about old Super Heroes and he told me about the way Darkhawk worked. The body swap mechanic. I thought it was so cool, very reminiscent of Miracleman. Then, about six months later, Darren and (Marvel Editor-in-Chief) CB (Cebulski) reached out to see if I might have interest in building a new Darkhawk.”
Higgins explains that he thinks of Darkhawk as a “contemporary coming-of-age” hero and wants to put him in “today’s world.”
“His name is Connor Young,” he said describing the new version. “He’s a senior at Woodlawn High, where he’s a star point guard. He’s just accepted a full ride scholarship to Empire State University, to play basketball. A lot of scouts think after a year, he’ll be ready to turn pro. Maybe even first overall. But then, after headaches, vertigo, and a bad fall, Connor is diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Everything in his life suddenly comes under question. Can he play basketball? Will Empire State and the pros still be interested in him And that’s all before he comes across the amulet.”
Marvel also released an image of the cover as well as several variant covers.

Adult Swim Announces New Animated Series ‘Teenage Euthanasia’

0

Warner Media announced a new “coming of age” animated comedy series for Adult Swim. The show is co-created by Alissa Nutting and Alyson Levy with animation being provided by Augenblick Studios. It is set to be released in the Fall on September 19th at Midnight and will explore death, family, and “Florida living.”
Warner said in a press release, “‘Teenage Euthanasia,’ Adult Swim’s newest coming-of-all-ages comedy series about death, family, and accidental resurrection.”
The premise is set “in near-future inland Florida, Teenage Euthanasia centers around the owners of Tender Endings funeral home, the Fantasy Family: Grandma Baba, her adult children Uncle Pete and Trophy, and Trophy’s teenage daughter, Euthanasia (“Annie”), a name accidentally given to her during the time of Trophy’s own unbearable suffering.”
“Back when Trophy was a teen herself; she ran away from home after giving birth to Annie, leaving her newborn to be raised by Baba and Uncle Pete. Now, fifteen years later, Trophy returns to Tender Endings…as a corpse, for burial. When a bolt of lightning strikes Baba’s homemade embalming fluid and one of Annie’s tears, Trophy comes back from the dead. As a resurrected woman, Trophy has a variety of quasi-useful death powers. But more importantly, she has a second chance at unplanned parenthood,” they continue.
You can check out the trailer for the show:

Advertising for the show features the tagline, “Bring your mommy issues with you.”
The release explained that the “cast of characters include recently undead Trophy Fantasy (voiced by Maria Bamford); her teenage daughter, Euthanasia “Annie” Fantasy (voiced by Jo Firestone); Annie’s Oedipus-complex-stricken Uncle Pete (voiced by Tim Robinson); and Annie’s “old country” immigrant grandmother Baba (voiced by Bebe Neuwirth).”
“Teenage Euthanasia is produced by PFFR and animated by Augenblick Studios. Executive producers include Lisa M. Thomas, Vernon Chatman, and John Lee, with Scott Adsit as co-executive producer,” they conclude.

DC Black Label Reveals “First Look” For ‘Superman Vs. Lobo’

0

The Man of Steel is facing off against the Main Man in an upcoming comic book from the DC Universe Black Label. The two powerhouses are gearing up for a battle that is being billed as having “not safe for work” level violence.
“Superman fights for truth, justice and the American way. He’s a symbol of the very best in us, a champion of the helpless and oppressed, and just an overall nice guy,” DC Nation reports. “Lobo, to put it ridiculously mildly, is not.”
They continue, “In other words, don’t expect them to trade bro hugs and beers when they come together in Superman vs. Lobo, the new DC Black Label series from writers Tim Seeley and Sarah Beattie and artist Mirka Andolfo. What can you expect? Lots of laughs, plenty of fights and more than a few guys getting fragged in creative new ways. After all, Seeley and Beattie are the minds behind Money Shot, the very NSFW indie hit about…well, if you don’t know, we’re just going to let you google it and learn that yourself.”
“Superman vs. Lobo finds the two mega-powered aliens on a collision course as they contend with a jealous, but popular extraterrestrial named Numen and a mysterious doctor intent on studying both of them. Will the Man of Steel and the Main Man destroy the universe fighting with each other, or will they somehow find a way to coexist,” DC adds.
DC Comics also released a “first look” for the first issue.

“As a DC Black Label series, Superman vs. Lobo is largely free from continuity and content restraints. That means Lobo can swear all he’d like and, we suppose, Superman can as well (though he seems to have some real trouble with it in issue #1). Like with most Lobo comics, the miniseries is outrageous at times and plenty of fun, but Seeley’s quick to note that it’s not all jokes all the time,” they said.

‘Life Lessons with Uramichi Oniisan’ English Dub Cast Announced

‘Life Lessons with Uramichi Oniisan’ is a dark comedy anime production from Studio Blanc and directed by Nobuyoshi Nagayama. The series kicked off in July 2021. It is based on an Ichijinsha manga series by Gaku Kuze. The show has been licensed by Funimation for a North American release through their streaming service.
Funimation also announced that they had recruited a cast for an English dub version that is to be released in late August 2021.
“You’re never too old for some good advice! We’re excited to announce that the Life Lessons with Uramichi Oniisan English dub is officially on its way to Funimation, and we have your first info on the cast and crew for the series,” they wrote on their website. “Episode 1 of the Life Lessons with Uramichi Oniisan English dub will arrive on Funimation, so if you’ve been waiting to watch this hilarious slice of life comedy (or just want to start again!), it’s almost time.”
They continue, “The English cast for the series includes Adam Gibbs (Chihayafuru, My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU) as Uramichi, Ray Chase (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind, Mob Psycho 100) as Usahara, Howard Wang (SK8 the Infinity, Gamers!) as Kumatani, Brandon McInnis (My Hero Academia, Dr. STONE) as Iketeru and Jessica Calvello (Attack on Titan, Listeners) as Utano.”
The cast also includes Eric Vale (Dragon Ball Z) as Derekida, Kevin Thelwell (Black Clover) as Edei, and Kent Williams (Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood) as God. Cris George will serve as ADR Director.
‘Life Lessons with Uramichi Oniisan’ follows “Uramichi Omota, a 31-year-old former professional gymnast, works as the leader of the exercise segment of the children’s show Together with Maman (a parody of Okaasan to Issho). Despite keeping an upbeat personality on the show, he can’t help but reveal his jaded, worn-out personality.”

Super7’s TMNT Ultimates Wave 3: April, Mikey, Rocksteady, & Metalhead

Super7 mirrors the launch of the original 1980s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles line of action figures with their third wave of Ultimates. However, now that the core figures have been addressed, TMNT Ultimates is moving onto the more unique characters included in this set.
Included in this wave are Michelangelo, April O’Neil, Rocksteady, and Metalhead! Each figure comes with replicas of the original ’80s accessories. Yes, April even comes with her compact Beretta 9mm. Does anyone else find it weird she came with a handgun?
All four figures are currently available as a set at the Big Bad Toy Store. The set is priced at $199.99, but the individual characters can be purchased while supplies last. Click here for a complete list of the available Ultimates TMNT figures.
Mikey had already appeared in this line. He appeared with his three brothers as part of a $180 set back in May. The alternate head, weapons, and accessories are the same. So, if you missed him then, you can get him now.

Blast Some Xenomorphs With Nerf’s ALIENS-Inspired Pulse Rifle

0

Don’t rely on harsh language when facing hundreds of xenomorphs with this Nerf M41-A pulse rifle! Yes, Hasbro is making a replica of one of sci-fi’s most legendary weapons. So now you can be a space marine in the comfort of your backyard and play ALIENS.
The Nerf pulse rifle is currently in the pre-order phase and will only set you back $94.99. The toy measures in at 28″, matching the dimensions of the film’s prop. This replica is a fully functional Nerf gun. Yes, the ammo counter does work! Even the underslung grenade launcher works, though it only fires a single Nerf dart.
The odd choice, since this is aimed at adult collectors, is the color scheme. Maybe this is due to the Nerf brand not wanting to replicate real gun colors. At least it’s not pink but rather sports a power loader skin.
The M41-A Blaster takes 4 “C” size batteries and sports the following features:

  • Features an electronic dart counter and movie-accurate blasting sounds
  • It measures over two feet long (28 inches) and comes fully assembled in premium packaging, perfect for display
  • Select from fully-motorized fly-wheel Elite or pump-action Mega dart blasting

The M41-A Pulse Blaster comes fully assembled in premium packaging ready for display. The packaging includes collector details like embossing, dull and gloss finishing, and movie accurate details. There’s two storage compartments to hold both Elite and Mega darts.
Just like in the film, this M41-A Pulse Blaster comes with over and under barrels for dual blasting. Unleash a barrage of Elite darts with the fully-motorized, fly-wheel mechanism on top. If the job requires more power, utilize the pump-action Mega barrel on the bottom.
No M41-A would be complete without a dart-counter so we’ve made sure to match the film’s iconic red 7-segment display. Set the number to your preference, up to 99 (but we suggest 95). The display will count down with every blast. You’re ready to rock and roll.
We’ve also included film-accurate blasting sounds with every trigger squeeze. Recreate classic scenes as you escape from the hive! Just make sure to lean into it!

I already pre-ordered mine, even though it isn’t coming out until October 2022. Considering pulse rifle replicas go for $300 and up, this is a good stand-in. No doubt many people will be modding theirs to get it to be more screen-accurate.

Dr. Loomis and Michael Myers Faceoff In This NECA Action Figure Set

Though no longer considered canon thanks to the two newer Halloween films, Halloween II was a worthy sequel to John Carpenter’s original. The film expanded on the lore of the unceasing serial killer Michael Myers by telling us that Laurie Strode was, in fact, his sister. Thus, Michael’s endless pursuit of Laurie now made sense until Halloween 2018 retconned that whole storyline.
But you can’t just flush away classic horror movies with modern revisions. Halloween’s first sequel will always be a classic, and NECA knows that. That’s why we’re getting this amazing Dr. Loomis and Michael two-pack. What would have been the final standoff between Michael Myers and the man who tried to unravel his madness is captured here.

NECA
NECA
NECA

While Sheriff Brackett and Dr. Loomis hunt for Michael Myers, a traumatized Laurie is rushed to hospital, and the serial killer is not far behind her. The nightmare isn’t over! Celebrating the 40th anniversary of the classic 1981 sequel Halloween 2, this action figure 2-pack includes 7-inch-scale versions of Michael Myers and Dr. Loomis! Both feature digital facial printing for extra accuracy. Dr. Loomis has removable arms so he can be displayed with or without his trench coat. Recreate the fire scene with attachable fire effects for Michael! It’s packed with more accessories too, including interchangeable hands, lighter hand for Dr. Loomis, 2 handguns, pumpkin, extra arms for Dr. Loomis, hammer, syringe, knife, scalpel, fire effect, and an extra “bloody tears” head for Myers.

Sadly, the story of Myers and his pursuit to end his bloodline continued for many films after the oddity that was Halloween III. Rather than the film series becoming about strange events occurring around the holiday, the series continued to focus on Michael, becoming more and more silly until H20 retconned the previous few entries, allowing Laurie to return. Then it got silly again for another movie before another retcon happened.
Phew. What are your thoughts on the Halloween series and the figures NECA is putting out? Let us know in the comments.

Superman’s Epic Fight With Doomsday Is Now An Epic-Sized Statue

0

In the early 1990s, the comic book industry was in trouble. To save themselves from possible extinction, Marvel and DC started making major shakeups with their classic heroes. One such gamble was killing off the most iconic hero of the modern age: Superman. Now the Last Son of Krypton’s heroic sacrifice against the monstrous Doomsday is a statue of epic scale.
Sideshow‘s statue of the brawl that led to the ’90s iconic Death of Superman storyline measures 37″ tall by 42″ wide. Yes, this thing is massive. It also comes in two versions, both standard and deluxe. The deluxe statue comes with multiple heads for Superman and a chest symbol based on the classic Max Fleischer cartoons.

Coming in at over 3 feet tall, our Superman Vs. Doomsday statue has The Man of Steel locked in a terrifying battle with Doomsday, as the monster bursts out of the remains of The Daily Planet globe! Jason Fabok has envisioned their titanic fight exploding in and around Metropolis, the grim setting for 1992’s groundbreaking (and heartbreaking) Death of Superman story arc.
And more fittingly to the story, our Deluxe Version of this bombastic battle allows you to extend the storytelling once more. Choose between three (3) swappable heads for The Last Son of Krypton. Change his serious head to one of two heads where his eyes are glowing with the power of his Heat Vision, and Superman is shown with gritted teeth or full-on rage! Furthermore, enjoy swapping out his iconic Superman chest symbol between the classic Golden Age design or the one inspired by the original Max Fleischer cartoons of the 1940’s!

The statue is available for pre-order now but won’t ship until sometime between December 2022 and May 2023. This should give prospective buyers enough time to gather the capital needed to buy this massive work of art. How much capital? $2,205.
Sideshow does offer a flex pay program of $248.06 a month. That’s more than my car payment!
What do you think of this supersized statue? Worth every penny or too grand for its own good? Let us know in the comments.
