A Classic Arcade Game Meets Wipeout in Peacock’s ‘Frogger’

0

Are you athletic, dexterous, and brave enough to take on an obstacle course based on Frogger? You know, the game where you play as a frog that must dodge cars and trucks to make it to safety? NBC’s subscription service Peacock has just the show for you if you’re up to the task.
Starting on September 9th, new episodes of Frogger will debut every Thursday exclusively on Peacock. The show will be hosted by Damon Wayans Jr. and Kyle Brandt, where the duo will provide running commentary similar to other shows in this genre.

The show Frogger brings to life this popular franchise and supersizes it on an epic course! Audiences and contestants alike will be transported into a wild, whimsical Frogger world, filled with all the simple but challenging elements of the mega-hit from Konami. Contestants from across the country will test their talent in a competition requiring skill, strength, strategy, and problem-solving smarts. Who will have what it takes to be America’s finest FROGGER and jump away with $100,000?

The pitch is that Frogger was the greatest video game of the ’80s. That’s … a bit of a stretch. I liked Frogger; I even had a copy of it on my C64 as a kid. The game itself was entirely OK. It was no Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, or Smash TV, that’s for sure. But then again, I don’t think Smash TV would make for a great obstacle course television show.

Frogger is basically a Wipeout clone, but less intense and what sounds like unfunny commentary. I’ve been spoiled by John Anderson and John Henson from the golden age of Wipeout, I guess.

What are your thoughts on this classic arcade game becoming an obstacle course game show? Does it look intense enough to be entertaining? What other would ’80s games make for a good game show? Let us know in the comments.

The Simpsons Have Been Added To Super7’s Ultimates Line!

Super7’s Ultimates line of action figures for the sophisticated collectors out there is growing and absorbing more IPs. Silver Hawks, TMNT, Disney characters, and now America’s favorite TV family, The Simpsons.
Pre-orders are open now until September 20th for this first wave of Simpsons Ultimates figures. The launch date for these figures will be in the Summer of 2022. Rather than going to the usual route with the standard assortment of characters, Super7 is hitting a few one-off appearances instead.
No, the family Simpson is not the main attracting in the first wave of this line; instead, the focus is on Moe, Poochie, Robot Itchy, Robot Scratchy, and Deep Space Homer.

Super7

The Simpsons ULTIMATES! Wave 1 is inspired by some of your favorite episodes, like “Deep Space Homer,” “Itchy & Scratchy Land” and “The Itchy & Scratchy & Poochie Show.”
Deep Space Homer, Moe, Poochie, and Robot Itchy & Scratchy are made-to-order, highly articulated, deluxe 7” scale action figures featuring a variety of interchangeable parts and iconic accessories.

Every 10 years, a new Simpsons toyline hits the market to varying degrees of success. The Playmates line, which lasted for four years and produced over 200 figures, was by far the best of the bunch. Each character had the ability to interact with various playsets, allowing for them to “speak” a few contextual lines depending on which playset they were plugged into.
The Super7 figures are a different beast. These are premium items. The figures are not mass-produced. They also come with a price tag of $55 each. Super7’s toys are made for the adult collector, and it shows. How will this equate to sales and the continuation of the line? Well, that’s up to you as a collector. If you want to see it flourish, pre-order a figure or the whole set now!
Did you collect Simpsons merchandise over the past 30+ years? Let us know in the comments.

Winner of ‘Million Tag’ Wins the Netflix Anime Adaption Grand Prize

0

Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ manga website announced back in late June a worldwide reality contest show called Million Tag, an 8-episode new “battle audition” show for discovering “the next star manga creator”, which aired on July 2nd on their Youtube Channel. Each of the 6 contestants had a Shueisha manga editor, with each team competing in four challenges. On August 20th, they aired the final episode, which ended with announcing the winner.

The winner of the contest is Naoki Fujita for his “Beat & Motion” manga. As the winner, Fujita’s manga will become an anime adaption that will stream globally and exclusively on Netflix. Fujita also won 5 million yen (about $45,000), the opportunity to serialize his manga on Shonen Jump+, and a compiled book volume of his manga. Fujita’s partnered manga editor from Shueisha was Shihei Rin (editor of Chainsaw Man and SPY x FAMILY).

You can watch the episode here. At 11:43 is when when they start discussing Fujita’s manga story, showing several pages of the manga story. The video does have an automated closed caption available, but it is a rough translation.

It’s a bit interesting to watch how the judges discuss and critique each story. You get a glimpse into what parts of a story sticks out to them and how they come to the final decision.

What do you think? Does the winning manga look interesting to you?

‘The Promised Neverland’ Season 2 Dub To Stream On Funimation

0

‘The Promised Neverland’ season 2 English dub is heading to the Funimation streaming service.
They said on their website, “The kids of Grace Field House are on the run! We’re excited to announce that The Promised Neverland Season 2 English dub is officially on its way to Funimation, thanks to our partners at Aniplex of America and Bang Zoom! Entertainment.”
“On August 20, all 11 episodes of the second season’s English dub will arrive on Funimation, which means it’s almost time to finish the journey of Emma, Norman and Ray in this action-packed adventure,” Funimation added. “The English cast of the series returns for Season 2, including Erica Mendez (Sailor Moon) as Emma, Jeannie Tirado (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind) as Norman and Laura Stahl (Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun) as Ray.”
The rest of the cast includes Laura Post as the voice of Mom Isabella, Rebeka Thomas as the voice of Sister Krone, Cedric Williams as the voice of Don, Ryan Bartley voicing Gilda, Amber Connor as the voice of Phil, and Michelle Ruff as Nat.
The show is made by the Japanese studio Mamoru Kanbe and directed by Mamoru Kanbe. It is licensed by Aniplex to produce the English dub of the anime.
You can watch the trailer for the English dub below:

Season 2 of ‘The Promised Neverland’ faced some controversy with fans of the manga in Asia and North America after it chopped up certain plots and skipped a popular story arc entirely.
Otaquest reported at the time that the Promised Forest, Search for Minerva, Cuvitidala, and the King of Paradise story-arcs were incredibly condensed, some down to one or two episodes. Fans were especially outraged after the Goldy Pond Battle arc was completely left out of the show altogether.
“The big question is, therefore, why,” they write. “Goldy Pond is a beloved story arc that introduces no small amount of characters and was arguably the series’ last great narrative before settling into a long-term decline. The amount of rage and anger floating around The Promised Neverland fan community right now is palpable, so this merits an explanation.”
Some have speculated that this is why the anime’s renewal has yet to be announced.

‘Arizona’ Star Elizabeth Gillies To Voice Catwoman In “Anime Inspired” Film ‘Catwoman: Hunted’

‘Catwoman: Hunted’ is an upcoming “anime-inspired” film from DC Comics and Warner Bros. Animation that follows Selina Kyle, who will be voiced by TV’s ‘Dynasty’ and ‘Arizona’ actress Elizabeth Gillies. The film will be released as part of the DC Animated Movie line and is expected to premiere in “early 2022.”
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Catwoman goes from “hunter to the hunted” and “picks up with Catwoman as she attempts to steal a priceless jewel. The heist puts her squarely in the crosshairs of both a powerful consortium of villains and the ever-resourceful Interpol as well as Batwoman, voiced by Stephanie Beatriz.” It will be directed by Shinsuke Terasawa and the script was penned by Greg Weisman.
DC Comics and Warner Media released a “first look” image to showcase Catwoman.

The movie will also feature a large cast including “Jonathan Banks as Black Mask, Steve Blum as Solomon Grundy, Lauren Cohan as Julia Pennyworth, Keith David as Tobias Whale, Zehra Fazal as Talia al Ghul and Nosferata, Jonathan Frakes as King Faraday and Boss Moxie, Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Barbara Minerva/Cheetah, Kelly Hu as Cheshire, Andrew Kishino as Mr. Yakuza and Domino 6, Eric Lopez as Domino 1, Jacqueline Obradors as La Dama, and Ron Yuan as Doctor Tzin.”
Selina Kyle as her alter ego Catwoman has become one of Batman’s most frequent adversaries, though she is also shown to be his partner and, at times, his lover. She has appeared in several forms of media, including theatrical films where she been portrayed by Lee Meriwether (1966’s ‘Batman’), Michelle Pfeiffer (‘Batman Returns’), Halle Berry (‘Catwoman’), Anne Hathaway (‘The Dark Knight Rises’), and Zoë Kravitz taking on the role in the upcoming film ‘The Batman.’
Catwoman was featured as a character in two of the ‘Batman: Arkham’ video game series where she was voiced by Grey DeLisle.

007 Producers Deny James Bond Is Headed For Streaming

0

Follow Amazon’s acquisition of MGM Studios, this put a lot of their franchises into consideration for streaming on the Prime app. This includes the latest James Bond film starring Daniel Craig, ‘No Time To Die,’ which has suffered from several delays due to pandemic lockdowns and other behind-the-scenes issues.
However, several producers for the James Bond franchise told Total Film in an interview that they “make films for the cinema.”
Longtime 007 producer and executive producer Michael G. Wilson explained, “I think we’re in denial!”
fellow Bond producer Barbara Broccoli said, “It’s tough to think about the future until this film has its moment.” She added, “I think we just really want to celebrate this and celebrate Daniel, and then when the dust settles, then look at the landscape and figure out what the future is. Although I think one thing we’ve certainly learned in the last 18 months is you never know what the future is. So we have to sit down and think about it.”
When asked directly if she would object to Amazon Studios exploiting 007 for television series for streaming, she was adamant.
“You got it,” Broccoli replied. “We make films. We make films for the cinema. That’s what we do.”
“We’ve resisted that call for sixty years,” Wilson added, referencing James Bond’s sixtieth anniversary. “Sixty years is a fantastic run.”
‘No Time To Die’ is set to be released in UK cinemas on September 30, and US theaters from October 8. It is the twenty-fifth James Bond film and Daniel Craig’s fifth outing as the MI6 agent. It also stars Léa Seydoux, Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris, Jeffrey Wright, Christoph Waltz, Rory Kinnear, Ralph Fiennes, Rami Malek, Lashana Lynch, Ana de Armas, Dali Benssalah, Billy Magnussen, and David Dencik. Cary Joji Fukunaga will serve as director following the departure of ‘Trance’ director Danny Boyle from the project.

So whether you’ve been waiting to jump into SOTSU or want to start it again from the top, it’s almost time!”

While her father is out, Rena finds one of Rina’s business cards in his room. Later, Satoko injects Rena with H-173 in her sleep. As a result, Rena develops terminal symptoms of Hinamizawa Syndrome. Rena learns that her father has been squandering the money he received in his divorce settlement on Rina. Fearing that her family is going to fall apart again, she goes to Okinomiya and tracks down Rina.”
