Weta Workshops LotR Ring Wraith and Hobbits Statue is $2,400!

0

Four hobbits were walking along the road when something foul races towards them. Clad all in black, faceless, and terrifying. A Ring Wraith can sense the One Ring. It looms over the tiny hiding hobbits and the temptation to use the golden band’s power is almost too much for one of them.
The statue is sold out on Weta’s official site, but the Big Bad Toy Store is still taking pre-orders. This massive and detailed work of art is scheduled to drop its limited run of 500 pieces in Q2 2022. A premium product will, of course, Gondor-sized sum. Break out those credit cards, as this thing will cost $2,400.
Weta Workshop sculptor Brigitte Wuest hand the following to say about working on this massive piece, “It’s such an iconic scene, so it was exciting to be asked to create this. I tried to capture the eerie silence when the Hobbits held their breath as the Ringwraith crept closer; his senses on high alert. You can even see the evil look of the Wraith Steed as it seeks to sense their presence too.
I really enjoyed sculpting the Steed in its solitary standing position, which had the potential to be quite boring, but with such drama in its face it comes to life and ends up playing an important part in the scene. The key was getting the right balance of tree and roots versus Wraith, Steed, and Hobbits. I believe each element is equally important but they also need to have their own prominence.

Dropping to its knees, steel-gauntleted hands groping, the faceless wraith looms over them. Around the Hobbits’ hairy feet, the ground writhes with worms and other small creatures seeking to escape its terrifying presence. As the figure closes in upon them and its shadow threatens to swallow all hope of escape, Frodo falls into a trance, the Ring around his neck calling to him, his finger edging ever closer to the promised safety of the magical golden band…

Sony’s ‘Hotel Transylvania’ Skipping Theatres, Going Straight to Amazon?

As fears about COVID-19 exposure continue. Film studios are looking for ways to get as many eyes on their films as quickly as possible. Those with their own streaming services are using that as their route to larger audiences, much to the vexation of theatre owners. Since Sony doesn’t have a platform of their own, they’ll be taking Hotel Transylvania: Transformania to Amazon Video.
Theatres will get one more nail in the coffin if the deal between Sony Pictures Animation and Amazon is sealed. According to Variety, the 100 million dollar contract would give Amazon Prime Video the exclusive streaming rights to the fourth and final Hotel Transylvania film. The rights for home video, TV and the Chinese market will remain with Sony, however.
This may all be a rumor. Variety did not name a source and could produce nothing that could confirm the legitimacy of their exclusive info. Neither companies’ representatives would comment on the story.
Could this be the end of theatres as we know it? More and more medium and big-budget films are making their debuts either exclusively on streaming or launching simultaneously in theatres.

Synopsis:

Drac and the pack are back, like you’ve never seen them before in Hotel Transylvania: Transformania. Reunite with your favorite monsters for an all-new adventure that presents Drac with his most terrifying task yet. When Van Helsing’s mysterious invention, the “Monsterfication Ray,” goes haywire, Drac and his monster pals are all transformed into humans, and Johnny becomes a monster! In their new mismatched bodies, Drac, stripped of his powers, and an exuberant Johnny, loving life as a monster, must team up and race across the globe to find a cure before it’s too late, and before they drive each other crazy. With help from Mavis and the hilariously human Drac Pack, the heat is on to find a way to switch themselves back before their transformations become permanent.

Maggie Q Reflects On Raising The Level Of Stunts For ‘Nikita’

0

Maggie Q starred as the title character in the CW action-thriller series ‘Nikita,’ the second television remake of Luc Besson’s 1990 film ‘La Femme Nikita.’ The show ran for four seasons from September 9 2010 to December 27, 2013, and followed Nikita, a woman trying to take down a shadowy government agency known as the Division. It remains a favorite among fans for its attention to detail in delivering top-notch action sequences and compelling story arcs.
Q recently spoke with Collider to discuss her upcoming film ‘The Protégé.’ During the interview, she took time to discuss ‘Nikita’ and how she was displeased with the show’s first stunt coordinator, wanting to raise the “expectations” of the show’s action.
“I admit I often find myself always pushing people further in fight scenes than they expected to go,” Q said. “When I started on Nikita, we had a certain stunt coordinator, fight coordinator, and I really tried to get what I wanted out of him. You gotta kind of know what you’re dealing with and who your audience is, right?”
She continued, “So you can kind of ask and expect something, but then you have to gauge whether this person is capable of giving you that or they’re just not giving it to you, right? Because those are two very different people. And so what ended up happening for me was, because I felt that my expectation was not going to be met, I had to bring on someone who I believed was going to get the job done, and I did.”
Q explained, “I knew I couldn’t keep him because he was a huge movie guy, but what I knew would happen was that if I brought that level in, we’d now set the standard. The bar has been set. We’re gonna go into a second season. I can’t keep him. He’s gonna go on to do like, Sherlock Holmes, all these big movies that he does, and I now have a standard that’s undeniable. And so when we hired in the second season after I lost my guy and he went back to his movies, that’s exactly what happened.”
She added, “I attracted coordinators who were like, ‘Oh, okay. Well, this is gonna be a huge challenge for me,’ and then the guy who ended up coming on and staying with me for the rest of the run of the show, I didn’t know if he could do it in the beginning, but because that standard was set, he was the one who was like, ‘Okay. I know what you can do, I know what you expect, I’m here.’ And that guy became really one of the best assets for the show and that was really, really exciting.”
“I’m so proud of him and I’m so proud of what we did together because it was a grind,” Q concluded.
Though nominated for several awards, ‘Nikita’ only managed to secure a 2011 Teen Choice Awards for Q’s co-star Shane West and 2012 Best TV Action Series at the IGN Summer Movie Awards.
The show also starred Lyndsy Fonseca, Aaron Stanford, Melinda Clarke, Xander Berkeley, Noah Bean, Tiffany Hines, Ashton Holmes, Dillon Casey, and Devon Sawa.

Blow Up Some Borg With This Captain Janeway Action Figure

The captain of the U.S.S. Voyager is ready to take on the delta quadrant while also being only 1/6th in scale. Kathryn Janeway is the newest Star Trek character to get an action figure from EXO-6. She is handpainted and produced on a small scale, making her feel like more of a work of art than a mass-produced toy.
The captain will be sporting her one-piece Star Fleet jumpsuit and that signature Kate Mulgrew smirk. The figure will also come packed with several iconic accessories. These include the following according to StarTrek.com:

  • Type II hand phaser: The phaser can be worn in a black holster that magnetically attaches to the jumpsuit.
  • TR-590 Tricorder X: This standard tricorder can be opened or worn in a holster.
  • Phaser rifle: Compression Phaser rifle used by the Voyager crew.
  • Coffee cup: “Coffee, black.” Janeway couldn’t start her day without her signature beverage.

The captain who defeated the Borg will be released later this year with pre-orders starting on August 20th at EXO-6’s website. Janeway will be $189.95 when she does materialize.

The first female captain to headline a Star Trek series, Kathryn Janeway shepherded the U.S.S. Voyager through the Borg-infested Delta Quadrant and safely returned her crew home after seven successful seasons.  Janeway would not hesitate to defy Starfleet protocol and lead away missions herself, even into a Borg cube where she’d make sure she’s the last one out. She led her crew as a wise single parent, even guiding the holographic Doctor and the former Borg, Seven of Nine, into growing and learning what it meant to be human. Kate Mulgrew’s portrayal of the brave and resourceful; yet warm and vulnerable captain endeared her to the millions of fans that cite Voyager as their favorite Star Trek series.

EXO-6‘s Star Trek line also includes First Contact Picard and Data. Data is already available for purchase. He goes for $169.95. Captain Picard can be pre-ordered and commands the sum of $189.95.
As far as the quality of the figures, here is what the company had to say, “Our scale models are created by top artisans in the industry. Each model is sculpted to perfection one by one. In addition, all the collectibles are approved by ViacomCBS and evaluated by the actors for authenticity.”

Transformers The Movie Figures: Coronation Starscream and Preceptor

Hasbro’s Studio Series Transformers: The Movie series continues to grow with the inclusion of Perceptor, Coronation Starscream, and Galvatron’s minion Sweep. Perceptor and Starscream will be available in February 2022 for $23 and $53 while Sweep will be coming out this November for $32.
Pre-orders are open now for these figures and others in the movie line over at Entertainment Earth.
Each of these figures sports the color scheme and mostly screen-accurate appearance to their 1986 film counterparts. Starscream maybe the odd one out here though as he looks rather chunky. That boy is thicc. He may be a reissue of a previous Starscream from a few years ago and isn’t brand new tooling like these others.
It feels weird being more excited for Perceptor than Starscream. When I was a kid in the ’80s, we’d only use Perceptor in his cannon configuration because he was just kind of a boring toy. Why he was kept alive while Prowl, Ironhide, and Wheeljack all got the offed was a mystery to me. It couldn’t have been the character’s gimmick of being a microscope, could it?
Just like you remember from The Transformers and Transformers: The Movie, it’s the super-smart Perceptor! This Studio Series 86-11 Deluxe Class Transformers: The Movie-inspired Perceptor figure converts from robot to microscope mode in 20 steps. Remove backdrop to showcase Perceptor in the Battle of Autobot City scene. In the Battle of Autobot City scene from The Transformers: The Movie, Perceptor observes a fleet of incoming enemies. His cursory evaluation of Decepticon capability indicates a distinct tactical deficiency—or in other words: the Autobots are outnumbered! Pose the figure out with the included blaster accessory and imagine recreating this classic movie moment!

NECA Has Made Batman 1989’s Wonderful Grapnel Launcher Into A Toy!

I’m Batman. Or at least I’ll try to be with NECA’s new Batman 1989 grapnel launcher replica! This iconic gadget often appeared in the Caped Crusader’s first major Hollywood feature film from Tim Burton.
NECA captured the look right down to the metallic spool, collapsible handle, and the shiny brass spear. It even fires the spear and retracts it with a battery-powered motor (LR1 batteries not included). It may not help you escape the Joker’s goons, but it will look sweet on your shelf next to NECA’s folding batarang.

NECA | DC
NECA | DC
The original speargun, or “grapnel,” was designed by John Evans. It was a somewhat functional prop, too.

There are versions of the speargun out there that have some functionality. A few have the rotating cylinder in the middle or real cables wound around the spool at the hilt. Those will run you around $500-$1,000.
NECA is in the right spot. Under $100, looks good, has some functionality, is the right size, and has all the cosmetic details. Sure, premium replicas are nice, but sometimes you want something that looks accurate but isn’t breaking the banks. We’re not all Bruce Wayne, ya know?
The NECA version does not break apart into two pieces, but it will fire and retract the grappling hook, similar to what we saw on the Animated Series’s grapnel. Unfortunately, the details are vague, and the item has not appeared on NECA’s website yet.
The article we sourced mentions this item will be appearing in big box stores “now.” I’ve not seen the SKU show up at Target or Walmart yet, but we’ll keep looking. The price point is also a mystery. My best guess would be $49-$59.
What are your thoughts on NECA’s current line of Batman replicas? What other props from the first four Batman films would you like to see NECA produce? I personally always like the Batman Forever batarang and the batglaive. Let us know in the comments.

Hanna-Barbera’s Godzilla Is Mondo’s Newest PVC Statue

In the late 1970s, Hanna-Barbera brought Godzilla to American audiences with a short-lived animated series. Rather than being a force of destruction, this Godzilla a far friendlier and quite helpful to a group of do-gooders. Mondo is capturing the cell-shaded King of the Monsters with this 8.25″ tall PVC statue.
He’s bright green and distinctly painted to match his cartoon counterpart. Animated Godzilla will be priced at $120. We saw the details over at Figures.com. Pre-orders for the King will start on August 17th directly from Mondo. Unfortunately, the statue does not have an official listing on the site yet. So, we’re unsure when he will be shipping out.

Mondo
Mondo
Mondo
Though this particular item isn’t readily available over at Mondo, plenty of other Godzilla goodies are. Mugs, posters, vinyl figures, pins, and t-shirts are all readily available for purchase.
The cartoon premiered in 1978, thanks to Hanna-Barbera. Godzilla lasted for two seasons, with 26 episodes in total. It would rerun quite often through the ’80s and ’90s before Cartoon Network started producing original content. Since that point, the cartoon faded into relative obscurity and was overshadowed by the superior Godzilla ’98 cartoon.
I know, it’s a weird thing to say. In the ’70s, Hanna-Barbera was throwing all sorts of ideas at the wall, from serious cartoon dramas to the countless Scooby-Doo clones. Godzilla just wasn’t one of the animation house’s strong points.
Whereas Godzilla The Series in 1998 managed to fix all of the issues with the American film the cartoon was based on. Ya, know, actual character development and monsters fighting monsters! It’s just too bad that the retile Godzilla design sucked.

What are your thoughts on the Americanized versions of Godzilla? Worthy counterparts or cheap hollow shells of an iconic movie monster? How do these cartoons stack up next to the more recent Netflix entries? Let us know in the comments.

Director Macon Blair Announces ‘The Toxic Avenger’ Remake Has Wrapped Production

0

Director Macon Blair announced on Twitter that his remake of ‘The Toxic Avengers’ has officially wrapped film. “That’s a wrap,” he wrote.

As Slash Film reports, this film will be a remake of the 1984 cult classic horror dark comedy ‘The Toxic Avenger,’ which originally starred Mitch Cohen and Kenneth Kessler as the monstrous “Toxie.” His human form was played by Mark Torgl with Peter Dinklage taking over the role for the new version. Dinklage is joined by Elijah Wood, Julia Davis, Jacob Tremblay, and Kevin Bacon, who will play the film’s villain.
The plot “centers on Melvin, a down-on-his-luck janitor who is pushed into a vat of toxic waste. This turns him into the Toxic Avenger, a superhero (of sorts) with grotesque physical mutations.”
The 1984 movie would spawn three sequels, comic books, a musical, and even a children’s animated series “Toxic Crusaders” that toned down the comedic violence of the films.
Lloyd Kaufman, who co-directed the first film, spoke with Dread Central about the remake and the direction Blair is taking the movie.
“Macon Blair knows Troma better than I do,” he said. “He’s seen everything. He’s seen the cartoon, he’s seen the Halloween special, he’s seen everything. And he loves our movies like Troma’s War and Terror Firmer. I’ve read the script and it’s better than the original and I leave it to him. If I’m called upon, I’d be happy to jump in. I learned on the musical to leave the creative to the creative. I learned to let them ask so if they want me, I’m there.”
He also joked about the possibility of bringing the reboot to the stage as a musical.
“I hope that Legendary keeps going,” Kaufman said. “If they let Macon Blair direct it, I think it will be terrific. He knows the Troma sense of humor, the combination of slapstick and satire with the environmental theme.”
