‘Overlord’ English Voice Cast Revealed For Season 4

0

Isekai fans got some good news with ‘Overlord’ returning for a fourth season. The show is produced by Japanese animation studio Madhouse and is based on a series of light novels by author Kugane Maruyama and illustrator so-bin for Tokyo-based publisher Enterbrain. Crunchyroll announced that they had acquired the rights for the English dub.
They revealed the cast on their website:

  • Chris Guerrero (Shadow in SK8 the Infinity) as Ains Ooal Gown
  • Elizabeth Maxwell (Lyne in Plunderer) as Albedo
  • Jill Harris (Aletta in Restaurant to Another World) as Aura Bella Fiora
  • Megan Shipman (Anya in SPY x FAMILY) as Mare Bella Fiore
  • Eric Vale (Diablo in How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord) as Pandora’s Actor
  • Heather Walker (Kei in Kaguya-sama: Love is War) as Hamusuke

Cris George is working as the ADR director and Dallas Reid is the Assistant ADR Director. Naoyuki Itō is the anime’s director.
You can watch the trailer below:

Wikipedia describes the synopsis as follows,
“In the year 2126, a Full-Dive Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game or DMMORPG called YGGDRASIL was released, standing out among all other DMMORPGs due to its unusually high ability for the player to interact with the game. After an intense twelve-year run, the game servers are about to be shut down. Within the game exists a guild, Ainz Ooal Gown, once consisting of 41 members and credited as one of the strongest guilds in the game. Now only four of the members remain, the other 37 having quit the game, and only one, a skeletal “Overlord” character named Momonga, continues to play as the guild leader, maintaining their headquarters in The Great Tomb of Nazarick. In the minutes before the shutdown he invites the remaining guild members, but of those only one appears and only for a short while before leaving. While saddened by this, he accepts the reality that his friends have their other lives to take care of and decides to stay logged in until the servers shut down.
When the shut-down time arrives, Momonga discovers that the game hasn’t vanished; instead, it appears as if Nazarick has been transported to another world altogether and its various NPCs becoming actual living beings. Momonga has been trapped in the form of his game avatar, leaving him unable to use the normal player functions such as General Message, or even log out. With no other option, Momonga sets out to learn if any players like himself are in this new world. Taking on the name of the guild, Ainz Ooal Gown, as a message to any other remaining players, Momonga begins exploring the world in an attempt to figure out what has happened while searching for anyone or anything that could help him solve this mystery, while ensuring the safety of Nazarick. Ainz Ooal Gown seems to have modifications made to his behavior by in-game mechanics, because he demonstrates no moral qualms with killing and other actions that are taboo in the real world. This is a story about the psychology of a creature with near-limitless power who is beyond ethical concerns.”
‘Overlord’ has also been adapted as a manga written by Satoshi Ōshio and illustrated by Hugin Miyama for Kadokawa Shoten. Both the light novels and manga are released in the United States by Yen Press.

Twitter is Mad That ‘Massage Freaks’ Exists and is Coming to Nintendo Switch.

Massage Freaks is coming (no pun intended) to Nintendo Switch, and Twitter seems to be very salty that Nintendo would allow such a NSFW game on the platform.

Massage Freaks is a rhythm game about… massage. Yes, the gameplay involves rubbing a variety of anime girls the right way in time to the music. Each girl has her own favorite moves, and apparently, storyline. But we know nobody plays a game like this for the storyline.

Given that the game is being released on the Nintendo Switch, which has until somewhat recently been viewed as the “family-friendly” console, some Twitter users have been taken aback by the game’s premise and lewd content.

Sankaku Complex has grabbed some of these tweets and compiled them in a post here.

Here are a few examples of the translated complaints in comments to Famitsu and Kotaku…

“You’re the absolute worst to be making entertainment out of sex crimes.”

“There’s no point in telling Famitsu, but can you all stop making entertainment out of sex crimes? Sex crimes do really happen at massage parlors in real-life, and it’s also rude to those who work seriously, and above all, it is dangerous to depict such a distorted view in which a woman is pleased to be molested that way.”

“Stop spreading the seeds of sex crimes, because these kinds of garbage otaku actually exist.”

“I was looking at Nintendo’s ethics and wondered when are they going to update it? Can you assert that these creations don’t have a negative effect on humans? In fact, there are cases of arrests due to obscene acts at massage parlors.”

“I once visited a massage parlor and trusted this old man because he was a professional, but he made sexually harassing statement (He said I must be an M for withstanding the pain and that we’re compatible because he was a hard S), so I can’t laugh about this. It’s gross. Stop making sexually violent games.”

“No, no, no, this can’t be happening. Give me a break. Hey, Nintendo, weren’t you just in trouble about a partnership system, and now you’re saying it’s okay to have this level of understanding towards a gender?”

And it goes on and on.

Because of the controversy, developer Qureate said they were open to making changes to the game.

This did not go over well with the vast majority of gamers on Twitter, most of whom want the game to be delivered intact.

Nintendo has been allowing more adult third-party content on the Nintendo Switch eShop, which is in stark contrast to its “family-family” image from years ago. Weirdly, it is Nintendo’s rivals Sony and Microsoft that have been accused of unnecessarily censoring game content as of late.

Nintendo’s official stance on third-party releases is that the games are rated and parents have the right to determine if a game is suitable or not.

“For titles released for our hardware, we want consumers to use the objective information provided in the age ratings of third-party organizations to understand the title’s content and target age. As we operate a platform, we believe that arbitrarily approving or not approving software for sale will hinder game software diversity and fairness.

Also, parental controls are built into our platforms, and parents can set a PIN to prevent the display of content inappropriate for children.”

The hands-off approach with third-party developers has likely done wonders for the sales of the Nintendo Switch, which has sold well over 100 million units to date.

Massage Freaks is still scheduled to release in the Nintendo eShop on August 4, 2022. You can check out the pics below to get a feeling for what sort of game this is.

Now We All Know What’s In Felix The Cat’s Stomach

0

Felix the Cat is now 103 years old and the newest addition to Mighty Jaxx‘s XXRAY series. The black and white cat with the yellow magic bag of tricks stands at 7.5″ tall to his head and 8.9″ to his ears. Half of Felix’s body reveals his skeleton, and it appears that the cat’s stomach is full of the same yellow and black magic that adorns the outside of his bag. The bag also has a little X-RAY section cut out, revealing a translucent glittery blue area.
Felix will set you back $169 and is expected to ship in December. He is constructed from vinyl, but I’m not sure if he’s one solid piece or not. I own a few rare vinyl figures, and none of them ever set me back more than $50 or $60.

Having made his first appearance on TV in 1959, Felix the Cat definitely ranks high on the list of famous cats in the world. Always getting in and out of precarious situations with his handy little magic bag of tricks, this laid-back cat finally stumbles upon the signature Jason Freeny dissection treatment. What surprises will his dissection reveal? You simply have to see for yourself!

Throughout the decades, various studios have tried to relaunch Felix after he lost in the popularity race with Mickey Mouse. In 1989 the late Hungarian director Tibor Hernádi helmed Felix’s first animated feature film. The project has become a cult classic, mainly for the weird animation choices and nonsensical plot. It has been roasted by many Internet critics and is easy to find online.

A few years later, Felix returned with a Saturday morning cartoon show called The Twisted Tales Of Felix The Cat. The series only lasted for two short seasons, but the animation style and oddball humor made it a memorable series. Both seasons are available on YouTube.

Anime Matsuri Creates A New Dubbing Studio With Vic Mignogna

7

Anime Matsuri held a special livestream on their Youtube channel on Sunday night to announce they created their own dubbing studio. The new dubbing studio started in November 2021 and they have already started recording. Deneice and John Leigh from Anime Matsuri traveled to Japan to meet up with Nippon Animation for a collaboration. Nippon Animation gave Anime Matsuri two anime movies that have never been dubbed in America before. The two anime movies are Genbanojo and Zip! Shimezo. They are described as animes for all ages to enjoy.

Being an ADR director himself, Vic Mignogna was asked by Anime Matsuri to become part of the new dubbing studio. Over the recent years, Vic has been asked countless times when he will return to voice acting in anime. Along with the news of Vic joining the new dubbing studio, Vic, who was a special guest on the livestream, announced he will be voicing in the two anime movies and is listed as being the ADR director for both animes.

The two anime dubs will be premiering live at the 16th annual Anime Matsuri 2022 convention on Friday July 29th, at 8 pm. A second showing will be on Saturday in the theater area at the convention. After the premiere, there will be a question and answer session with the voice actors. Nippon Animation will also be attending the premiere.

Vics’ reaction to being asked to become part of the new dubbing studio was described as “he just dropped to the floor”.

When asked what it felt like to be back in studio voice recording, Vic answered, “I came in down there to work on Genbanojo with Jacob first. And he was behind the console. And I went into the booth and put the headphones on and it was the first time that I had done that in probably, you know, 2 years. Um and I teared up a little bit, I have to say.” Deneice and Jacob (the other guest on the livestream, from Japan) agreed with how emotional the moment was. “Being a part of this industry has been such a great joy in my life for the last 20 years that I’ve been in the anime industry, and I love it so much, I love working on it. So it was a real humbling opportunity to get back into it.”

Jacob stressed that this was not a one-off special event. They’re working hard to acquire licenses and all the things required in running an anime dubbing studio. This is just the beginning. Having fans to support their work also makes a tremendous difference.

It was noted during the stream that technological advances in todays world enables them to have people do voice acting from around the world. For example, one voice actor in Zip! Shimezo voiced their role from the Netherlands. In fact, the majority of this movie was recorded remotely.

To see the full video announcement, watch the video here. The talk with Vic and Jacob starts at around 9:09.

So what do you think about the new dubbing studio and Vic Mignogna’s return to voice acting? Let us know!

Sideshow Teases Three New Upcoming Collectibles

A trio of new collectibles was teased this week over at Sideshow collectibles. These previews include Premium Format Figures of Wolverine (Ronin), The Joker, and a statue of Olivia De Berardinis’s Frankie Reborn.
Wolverine as a Ronin is something we only got a small taste of during Fox’s X-MEN days. The Wolverine was our brief glimpse at Logan’s time in Japan; somewhere his comic book counterpart has spent a lot of time. These stories and his stints as “Patch” were always my favorite bits of Wolverine lore because they departed from the typical roster of the X-MEN and villainous mutants.
Sideshow is looking to capture the spirit of Wolverine as a wandering samurai in a new Premium Format Figure. These statues tend to be of a larger size and usually feature a mixture of sculpted artistry and tailoring craftsmanship. The preview image below makes this one of the Canadian mutant’s most dynamic statues in some time.

A grotesque-looking Joker will be the character’s following interpretation as a Premium Format Figure. His smile is curled back in a sinister rictus, showing off rows of enormous teeth. His left arm is outstretched to shake yours, but is that a potentially deadly joy buzzer attached to his middle finger? What’s that behind his back? Is it the exact crowbar he used to beat Jason Todd to death?
Sideshow Collectibles
Now, let us look at the only reason I wrote this article: sexy, beautiful pinups!
Olivia De Berardini specializes in pinup art, and it’s glorious. Her Frankenstein’s Monster and Bettie Page mashup is excellent! The Frankie Reborn statue captures Olivia’s eye for the female form and pinup genre. A fine art print version of Frankie is also coming; click here to check that out. It’s unclear just how large this statue is, but I’d clear an entire shelf just for her. Hopefully, we’ll get more details soon.
As much as I’m a fan of the horror monster type of Joker, my favorite version of the Clown Prince of Crime has always been the ’70s and ’80s version, where he’s much more clean-cut. The basic clownish look hid how truly unhinged the Joker was underneath. That kind of gets lost when his features one-to-one match his evil heart.

Miles Morales Swings Into Action With A New Premium Format Figure

After years of trying, I think Marvel has finally managed to make Miles Morales more than just “that other Spider-Man.” His starring role in 2018’s Into the Spider-Verse helped a lot. I’d somewhat forgotten about him after those early Ultimate days. The animated film gave him a lot of unique character traits I felt he was missing in the comics.
Now I actively look forward to seeing Miles show up in the collectibles market. Like today! Miles Morales is joining Spider-Gwen with this new 23.5″ tall Premium Format Figure from Sideshow Collectibles. Miles is available in two versions, the masked $630 version and a $650 “exclusive” edition with Miles unmasked.
Expect this young Spider-Man to swing into your neighborhood between April and July 2023. Sideshow offers a few different layaway options if you don’t have several hundred dollars on hand at the moment.

Based on the hero’s iconic appearance in Marvel Comics, the polystone Miles Morales Premium Format Figure features a mixed media costume application — his non-removable fabric jacket adds dimension and style to a sculpted black and red spider-suit. Thematic paint application reflects the blue glow of the city lights onto Miles’ legs and sneakers as he slings webs all the way home. Detailed textures and raised red webbing on his suit give added depth to the striking design, making Miles Morales practically pop off the page into three-dimensional Spider-Man collectible form.

The following artists created this Premium Format Figure:

  • Bernardo Esquivel (Paint)
  • Esther Skandunas (Cut and Sew)
  • Richard Luong (Design)
  • James W. Cain (Sculpt)

What did you think of Miles when he first took over for the dead Ultimate Spider-Man? Did it take a while for the new character to grow on you? In the comments section below, let us know your experience with the comics and characters.

The Spice Must Flow: Super7 Introduces Dune ’84 ReAction Figures

Regardless of how well received the most recent Dune film (or series if it ever gets a sequel) is, David Lynch’s version of Frank Herbert’s works from 1984 still remains a cult classic bit of sci-fi. For all its faults, the movie has transcended mear media and has become something else entirely.
Now you can relive the Lynchian Dune with ReAction figures from Super7. These retro-inspired toys’ initial wave includes the characters: Paul Atreides, Paul Muad-Dib, a Sardaukar Warrior, Stilgar, and Baron Harkonnen. The figures are simple, with only 5 points of articulation, and measure only 3.75″ tall. However, the details matter, and these ReAction figures look exactly what I would have expected to see in the mid-1980s. I appreciate that Baron Harkonnen is round, and Super7 did cheap out with a skinny version just to save plastic.
The accessories are minimal in this first wave, with only the following weapons and gear:

  • Daggers
  • Lasgun – small
  • Lasgun – large
  • Maker Hook Sandworm riding tool
  • Weirding Module

At least the blue eyes do show up, but I don’t think they’ll glow in the dark. On the other hand, the Sardaukar Warrior visor does look like it has a glowing feature.

The figures are priced at $18 a piece or $90 for the set of five.
My only complaint is that Baron Harkonnen doesn’t look gross enough in the face. If you look close enough at the promo images, the diseased flesh of his face is there, but it’s not colored in with paint or a wash. Strange considering the exposed skin on his torso is painted.
And now … The Spice Must Flow Nightclub Remix!

What do you think of these latest Super7 action figures? Does the ’84 Dune deserve more merchandise? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.
