You Can Customize This ‘Godzilla Tokyo SOS’ Statue

0

It’s Godzilla VS Mothra’s larva twins in this large-scale Tokyo SOS statue from Mondo. The limited edition statue allows Godzilla fans to customize the scene to their liking, including multiple display options and interchangeable parts. Mondo even threw in a severed Mothra leg for Godzilla to chew on!

The Tokyo SOS statue is limited to only 600 pieces. It measures between 16″ to 20″ tall, depending on if a Mothra larva is attached to Godzilla’s tail. The base is 15″ in diameter, and the overall width, including the characters, is 17″. This high-end collectible is expected to ship next May.

Does this mean we’ll get a Kiryu (Mechagodzilla) statue to go along with this?

Based on the amazing Godzilla: Tokyo SOS. This statue captures the brutal battle between Godzilla, Mothra and Kiryu. Godzilla is fully realized with stunning attention to detail including an array of swappable accessories that recreate specific moments from the movie. This statue is the perfect companion piece to Mondo’s Mothra: Tokyo SOS statue released last year, creating an epic face off between the two iconic monsters!

The $585 collectible comes with the following:

  • Godzilla Statue
  • Two Mothra Larva
  • Base Diorama
  • Swappable Closed Lower Jaw
  • Swappable “Chomping on Mothra’s legs” lower Jaw
  • Swappable semi-transparent Heat Ray Attack with head
  • Swappable Tail tip (used to display with or without attached Mothra Larva)

Tokyo SOS’s Godzilla had my favorite King of the Monsters design. The movie itself, not so much. It was one of those Toho films that threw everything at the wall, like modern-day comic book movies. It’s full of classic Godzilla monsters and other characters. There was a bit of a budget issue, but the special effects crew pulled off some shots. Sadly, the film does reuse destruction footage from other movies.

Remember Ackbar’s Unceremonious Death? Forget That And Buy This Toy!

Remember how Grand Admiral Ackbar went out like a punk before Leia got to pull her Space Mary Poppins act in The Last Jedi? Don’t think about that or how the Disney Star Wars trilogy took a steaming dump all over the Original Trilogy characters. Instead, buy the new Return of the Jedi Black Series Ackbar figure! Can’t you feel that $27.99 loosening from your wallet at the sight of the Kenner-inspired blister card?

You know you want it. But, you better act fast because this memberberry will probably, totally, no doubt about it, sell out. That’s why it’s limited to two per customer. Hasbro has to keep these on lockdown. It’s not like Star Wars fans have lost their love of collecting after years of Sequel Trilogy figures and price hikes. This figure will ship around December 1st.

When I first looked at this figure, I was trying to figure out why he looked less detailed than the previously released Black Series Ackbar. That’s because Hasbro is trying to replicate the figure’s original orange look. Which also means there’s no wash or detailed paint on the toy. So, you’re paying a higher price for a reissued figure that looks like he was half-finished.

Hasbro didn’t pull this cheap stunt with the 40th anniversary The Empire Strikes Back figures. Why do that here? Ugh.

Ackbar led the defense of Mon Cala and masterminded the rebel attack on the second Death Star at the Battle of Endor. He became a Grand Admiral in the New Republic, winning many victories

At least he has an articulated mouth. That’s the only good thing I can really say. Just because a figure wasn’t that detailed in the 1980s doesn’t mean you should charge triple the price to replicate that effect today. Sigh.

Netflix To Make A ‘Gears Of War’ Film & Animated Series

0

Sixteen years after Gears of War made its debut on the XBOX 360, Cliff Bleszinski’s COGs and Locusts are finally getting a feature film on Netflix, and so many false starts. Not only that, but Netflix will also produce an animated series, according to a Hollywood Reporter exclusive.

The Gears of War video game series centered around the humans of the planet Sera battling for survival against a subterranean race known as the Locust. The franchise is rife with storytelling potential from the grunts fighting a seemingly endless war and the civilian survivors dealing with martial law or those living on the outskirts who’ve totally forsaken the “safety” the Coalition of Ordered Governments provides.

The first three games focus on COG soldiers Marcus, Dom, Cole, and Biard. Each character had his backstory; some were quite tragic. The squad was full of masculinity, ball-busting, and a drive to save the human race at almost any cost. You know, the sort of things today’s entertainment industry appears to despise. So, what can we expect from a Netflix adaptation?

Very little is known at this point. No director, cast, release date, and writers have been announced. However, we can all agree that both adaptations will probably deviate from the source material if the past has taught us anything. We saw drastic changes with The Witcher. These modifications may have been why Henry Cavill called it quits as the series lead.

As I said earlier, there are so many avenues to go down and vast amounts of subjects/topics to explore. Unfortunately, I fear much of this potential will be ignored, and we’ll get the typical subversion or character neutering that has become commonplace. Considering Cliff Bleszinski’s current mindset, I wouldn’t doubt that he would get behind a total overhaul of the series along with whatever fan-antagonizing Netflix would start on Twitter.

Fans of the neo-noir fantasy series ‘Carnival Row’ got some bittersweet news. After the first season ended in 2019, the show has been on hiatus, but Amazon Studios announced the show will return for a second season. Unfortunately for the fandom, it will be its final season.

“Prime Video today announced the final season of Carnival Row, the one-hour Amazon Original fantasy-drama series from Amazon Studios and Legendary Television starring Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne will premiere February 17, 2023,” Amazon said in a press release.

The show is based on the speculative script ‘A Killing on Carnival Row’ from Travis Beacham, who now co-produces the series with showrunner Erik Oleson. It also stars Simon McBurney, Tamzin Merchant, David Gyasi, Andrew Gower, Karla Crome, Arty Froushan, Indira Varma, and Jared Harris.

You can watch the trailer for the show below:

Amazon Studios describes the series as follows,

“In a fantasy world where humans and creatures clash, Season Two of Carnival Row picks up with former inspector Rycroft Philostrate a.k.a. Philo (Orlando Bloom) investigating a series of gruesome murders stoking social tension. Vignette Stonemoss (Cara Delevingne) and the Black Raven plot payback for the unjust oppression inflicted by The Burgue’s human leaders, Jonah Breakspear (Arty Froushan) and Sophie Longerbane (Caroline Ford). Tourmaline (Karla Crome) inherits supernatural powers that threaten her fate and the future of The Row. And, after escaping The Burgue and her vengeful brother Ezra (Andrew Gower), Imogen Spurnrose (Tamzin Merchant) and her partner Agreus Astrayon (David Gyasi) encounter a radical new society which upends their plans. With humans and fae folk divided and freedom on the line, each hero will face impossible dilemmas and soul-defining tests tests in the epic conclusion of Carnival Row.”

An Imperial Probe Droid Is The Next Premium Format Figure

0

The Imperial Probe Droid is our first glimpse into the darker side of Star Wars. This creepy, almost insectoid-looking self-destructing tattle tail’s appearance was followed closely by Luke’s mauling by a Wampa. It told us upfront that The Empire Strikes Back would be a cold, grim, and unsettling affair.

Sideshow Collectibles captured the ominous look of the Empire’s mechanical scout in this latest Premium Format Figure. The Probe Droid stands 27″ tall and is mounted on a Hoth Rebel base-inspired stand. The figure has rotating legs and light-up eyes. Sideshow also included a sound box to recreate the droid’s distinctive gibberish. Unfortunately, these features require (3) AA batteries, and there’s no option for a USB plugin.

The Premium Format Figure is $875 and is due sometime between June and September 2023. Something to note is that the Probe Droid is made from polystone. Obviously, there are mixed materials here, or else you wouldn’t have the light-up eyes. But if the limbs and antenna are made from Polystone, it could be effortless to break something on this big boy if it accidentally tumbles off the shelf. Hopefully, some of the more delicate parts are made from a form of plastic, so it has a little bend, just in case.

The Probe Droid Premium Format Figure measures 27” tall and 13” wide as the dark, spindly probot™ patrols an industrial corridor. Its domed head is equipped with numerous antennas and sensors in order to aid its reconnaissance mission. Every detail, from the powerful blasters in its body to the pincer-like apertures protruding from its sides, showcases the stealth and danger for which this droid is infamous.

The boy wants to explore new surroundings and decides to abandon his home with It to find the paradise using the traces his tribe left behind. However, with a heavily injured body and no sight of his elder comrades, what will become of the boy?

Fumetsu no Anata e illustrates the story of an immortal being experiencing humanity, meeting all types of people in many places throughout time.”

New ‘Stranger Things’ Games Coming: Puzzle Tales & VR

0

Considering all the nostalgic strings the hit Netflix series Stranger Things pulls, the series is not as present in the video game sphere as I expected it to be. There are a few games and some DLC, but where are the big AAA affairs making use of all the great characters and creepy creatures?

It’s slow going, but at least two new Stranger Things games were announced this week, according to Superhero Hype. One is a standard mobile puzzle game, while the other is a virtual reality affair from Tempest and Tendar developer Tender Claws.

Those with an active Netflix subscription can only play the puzzle game. It is currently available for iOS and on Google Play. From what I can see in the video below, Puzzle Tales is a mixture of Bejeweled and collectible card/character games. Do you know what that tells me? Lots of in-app purchases. Sigh. Mobile gaming never changes, does it?

Players must recruit a team of Stranger Things characters, each with unique attributes. The characters can be leveled up with “gear and tools.” Think Puzzle Fighter but with RPG elements. While I may not think this is worth playing, the current ratings on Google Play put it at 4.6/5.

Battle the Demogorgon, embark on mysterious quests, collect characters and discover new storylines in this Hawkins-inspired stylized adventure game. Join Eleven and the gang in this match-3 puzzle RPG adventure that reimagines the Stranger Things universe in the style of an ’80s Saturday morning cartoon.

The VR game is a totally different affair. In this title, you’ll take on the role of Vecna and rampage through the void while seeking a way to get your revenge on the series’ heroes. It is scheduled for sometime in late 2023. Specific devices were not listed, but Tender Claws says it will be on “major” platforms. So, probably every VR device that’s currently on the market.

TMNT Ultimates Wave 9 Includes Wingnut & Flocked Splinter

Super7‘s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Ultimates Wave 9 brings back Splinter, but this time he is flocked and comes with an alternate head featuring pupils! The whole white-eyed Splinter always creeped me out. Another change I’ve noticed is that Spinter no longer comes with a weapon tree. I’m guessing this was excluded to make up for the cost of the flocking and new head.

The new characters for Wave 9 include Slam Dunkin’ Don, Wingnut, Scumbug, and Zak. Wingnut is one of the larger figures in the line, mainly due to his wingspan. Oh, and he’ll cost you more, too. Wingnut & Screwloose will cost $75, while the others are $55 each. All five figures can be pre-ordered for $305.

With a Neutrino making an appearance in the Ultimates line, this makes me wonder if we’ll see an in-scale hover hot rod. This probably won’t happen until Kala and Dask figures are released, though. Or maybe not, depending on how well that $450 Party Wagon sold.

Pre-orders for Wave 9 will be open untiled December 2nd. Expect these figures to ship during Fall 2023.

Super7

Super7

Featuring a peacenik teen from Dimension X, a hoopster in a half-shell, a dynamic alien duo, a mutant cockroach, and a certain fuzzy ninja master, it’s the latest wave of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ULTIMATES! The made-to-order 7” scale TMNT ULTIMATES! Figures of Zak, the Neutrino, Slam Dunkin’ Don, Wingnut & Screwloose, Scumbug, and Splinter, all with interchangeable heads & hands and a variety of accessories, are ready to teleport in to take the top-shelf tier in your display with their deafening dominance and dashing detail!

Super7 has been slowly integrating some of the later series Turtles into the mix. How many waves can go on until we see “Toon Turtles” or Troll Turtles? I think the Ultimates line is officially over once we see the clown Mikey figure. What do you think? Let us know below.

Will HasLab’s Deathsaurus Transformer Crowdfunder Succeed

0

On October 27th, HasLab launched its newest crowdfunding campaign. Can the Decepticon, Deathsaurus, succeed where Ghost Rider failed? So far, this Generations figure already has 5,887 backers out of the 11k needed to make it into production. The initial push was positive, but Deathsaurus appears to have stalled less than two weeks in.

This may not spell doom for the $179.99 Takara Tomy toy. Other crowdfunding efforts from HasLab have met their goals even with an early dip in growth. The big mistake Hasbro is making here is presenting Deathsaurus without a single spec of color. The original figure was a mixture of gray, blue, purple, and gold. Had I only been shown a picture of the figure, I would have never guessed this was an updated version of the pricey Japanese Decepticon from ’89. The other issue is that Deathsaurus comes with almost no accessories. Unfortunately, those are all locked behind very lengthy stretch goals.

One of the most feared beings in the known universe, Deathsaurus has spread his reign of terror and destruction for eons. The only force stopping him from achieving ultimate power has been that annoyance of an Autobot, Star Saber. But his brilliant mind has thought up a new plan, and this time, nothing can stop the Emperor of Destruction.

The base figure will come with the following:

  • Premium 11-inch Deathsaurus converting figure inspired by the Japanese anime, Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers: Victory
  • Converting Tigerchest and Eaglechest Micromaster figures
  • Death Tailer shield accessory
  • Sword and arrow accessories

You’re right if you think very few accessories are included with Deathsaurus. The remaining goods have been reserved for the two stretch goal tiers. If the campaign teachers 14k backers, Hasbro would consist of the following:

The Living-Metal-Destroying Cannon is perhaps one of the most destructive weapons in the Transformers universe. A fully-charged blast from its barrel can erode any metal material, including the living cells of Cybertronian lifeforms. This Deathsaurus figure comes with this signature weapon accessory and his classic spiked flail accessory! Fans can also plug the 6 included blast effects onto the Deathsaurus figure and his weapon accessories.

Want the Decepticon throne or bases that allow Deathsaurus to display some of his dynamic poses? Well, ya won’t see those until 17k people back the project:

The Transformers team has sculpted an imposing throne for Deathsaurus that reflects his awesome power. This 11-inch accessory features premium deco and details inspired by the throne as seen in the anime. Additionally, we know you want to show off Deathsaurus in the most epic poses imagineable. We’re including 2 stand pieces to allow Transformers fans to showcase Deathsaurus in his most powerful stances.
