McFarlane Toys Witcher Figures Has An Odd Looking Geralt

McFarlane Toys is releasing four figures to launch the company’s line of Witcher action figures. Set to come out this December, these toys will be based on the Netflix adaptation rather than the books or video games. The first series will consist of Geralt, the Kikimora, Jaskier, and a Geralt during the Kikimora battle.
However, if I’d not seen Henry Cavill in the role, I would not have a clue as two who this is supposed to be. Look at that guy’s face!

See what I mean? He looks a little doughy. Jaskier seems alright, but he is giving me severe Matthew Perry vibes. The Kikimora is somewhat cool, though.
I spotted Geralt for pre-order over at GameStop for $29.99. Considering that this figure looks kinda like a bootleg, I was expecting a much lower asking price. Is this because of inflation or licensing? Who knows?
For that price, you’ll get a figure with the following features:

  • Incredibly detailed 7″ scale figure based off The Witcher on Netflix
  • Figure features Geralt in his Season 1 armor
  • Designed with Ultra Articulation with up to 22 moving parts for full range of posing
  • Includes Geralt’s steel sword, fabric cloak that can fit on the figure, and a base
  • Figure is showcased in The Witcher themed window box packaging
  • Collect all Additional McFarlane Toys The Witcher Figures

Honestly, I’d rather see NECA handle this license. The price would probably be the same, but the outcome of the face sculpts would probably be superior. If this line gets a second series, I hope Ciri and Yennefer fare better in the looks department.
What are your thoughts on Geralt’s mug? Does he look like Henry Cavill, or is this Geralt of Rivia look like Brutus the Barber Beefcake with a wig on? Let us know in the comments.

New Prime Minister of Japan Promises Better Wages for the Anime & Manga Industry

0

Fumio Kishida (aged 64) won the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Election in Japan, late last month, and is expected to be nominated as the 100th prime minister. Recently he was asked if he saw this years hit movie Demon Slayer: Mugen Train, and if so, which one was his favorite character.

Although he has never seen the anime, Fumio Kishida has read all 23 manga volumes. His favorite character is Akaza, the bad guy showcased in the Mugen Train Arc.

The Japanese workforce is known to be very grueling and underpaid, including in the manga and anime industry. There are countless stories of artists developing illness, sleeping at their workstation, or having very little life outside of their work. With suicide rates being high in Japan as well, let’s hope Fumio Kishida can help turn the tide to better working conditions for the future health of the workers, and the anime and manga industry.

Nozomi Kickstarter to Dub Dirty Pair Anime Series

0

Yesterday, Nozomi Entertainment started another Kickstarter campaign to fund for an anime dub of the 1985 series ‘Dirty Pair’. This will be the third anime series Nozomi has used Kickstarter for in order to dub an anime they hold distribution rights in the US. They previously successfully ran campaigns for Aria The Animation in 2017, and Emma: A Victorian Romance in 2018.

The Kickstarter campaign describes the 24 episode series as follows:

In the 22nd century mankind may be technologically advanced, but there are still some problems that can only be fixed by a couple of women who won’t back down from a fight! These are the adventures of Kei and Yuri, two official Trouble Consultants for the World Welfare Works Association (WWWA) who use their brains, brawn, and looks to solve any problem. They call themselves the “Lovely Angels,” but because their solutions often result in chaos and mass destruction, the rest of the universe has dubbed them the “Dirty Pair”!

For Kei and Yuri, no two missions are ever the same. As the WWWA’s top Trouble Consultants, they take on all sorts of odd jobs, like chasing down treasure in high-tech ruins, fighting off political assassins, and even avenging the death of… a plaster statue? In the end, only one thing’s for sure: anything that stands between these two and victory is sure to be destroyed!

They will be offering other anime movie features, OVAs, and a follow up series, Dirty Pair Flash, as part of the campaign. However they do not intend to re-dub these series, but to include the original English dubs on these sets.

Here is the original ADV trailer from 1999:

Nozomi Entertainment explains why they choose to use Kickstarter to dub their anime:

“The anime market has become very difficult in terms of licensing and costs, and production, especially of deep catalog and niche titles, has become much more risky. We love these shows, to be sure, but the market for them is certainly different. Fans in general are focused on simulcasts and more recent programs, and this creates more hurdles when making investments in older shows or programs with specific audiences. However, we have been successful in using the Kickstarter platform in the past to work on niche programs to create English dubs.”

With a goal set at $275,000, in less than 24 hours they have surpassed $200,000. To celebrate, the Nozomi team have announced on their Kickstarter that Jessica Calvello will be reprising her role as the long haired Yuri.

Playstation’s Bricking Doomsday Avoided Thanks To New Update?

In my first story for D-Rezzed, I reported on an issue that had the potential to cripple Sony PS4 consoles. The problem stemmed from the game system’s internal clock. If the battery for the clock died and Sony’s online system for validating games was offline, then gamers would no longer be able to play their downloaded titles.
Thankfully the PS4’s latest update to software version 9.00, the potential doomsday may have been adverted. According to Ars Technica, Destruction Games ran a test on a PS4 after the firmware update to see if the battery issue had been solved. Apparently, even with a dead battery, a PS4 with this latest update is safe from CMOS error code “CE 34878-0.”

The update was released on 9/15/2021, and Sony makes no direct reference to the issue in question.
Main features in the system software update:

  • You can now view trophies for PS5 games on PS4 consoles.
    • In Trophies, you can now view PS5 trophies in your trophy list.
    • You can also view PS5 trophies in the trophy list on the profile screen under the [Games] tab.
  • In Messages, we’ve updated the following:
    • If you’re the owner of a group, you can now delete it. To delete a group, open the options menu and then select [Delete Group]. If you delete a group, it will be deleted for all members.
    • Now when you block someone, you can choose to also leave the group that only you and they are in at the same time. You won’t leave groups that include other players.

Other updated features:

  • On an Android or iOS/iPadOS device, you can now use the PS Remote Play app to access your PS4 via mobile data.
  • We’ve made the following improvements to parental controls:
    • Now when a child requests to use communication features for a game, their parent or guardian will receive a notification on the PS4 and PlayStation App.
    • The child will also receive a notification when their parent or guardian accepts, denies, or stops allowing the child to use communication features for a game.
  • You can now select whether you’d like to receive notifications on your PS4 or through email about new products and special offers. To do so, go to [Settings] > [Account Management] > [Account Information] > [Communication Preferences].

Regardless, if continued tests show that the error has been vanquished, this is great news for PS4 owners. Seeing as how PS5s are still rarely found on the market and many Sony games coming out for both systems, it relieves that fear of being left out when an exclusive title gets released. Oh, you’re not missing much when it comes to the new Ratchet and Clank game, trust me.

‘Scottober’ Trailer Drops For Three Scott Snyder Comic Book Titles

0

Scottober is coming. Comic book writer Scott Snyder launched a new comics imprint Best Jackett Press which releases its titles exclusively on Comixology and Amazon. Now a teaser has dropped for three of the titles coming in December so fans know exactly what they can expect from Snyder and his collaborators.
You can watch the trailer here:

“Writer Scott Snyder’s slate of upcoming Comixology original titles is shaping up to launch in October with three books kicking off throughout the month. Now, Comixology has released a teaser trailer showing off some of what fans can expect during what the publisher has dubbed ‘Scottober,'” Comixology said in a statement obtained by GamesRadar.
“The three titles kicking off in October are We Have Demons #1 by Scott Snyder and artist Greg Capullo on October 5th, then Clear #1 by Snyder and artist Frances Manapul on October 12, and finally Night of the Ghoul #1 by Snyder and artist Francesco Francavilla on October 19. Comixology will then take their October Scott Snyder releases weekly with a sampler of the other titles Snyder and company have planned, to release on October 26,” they concluded.
‘We Have Demons’ reunites Snyder with frequent collaborator artist Greg Capullo who worked on such projects as ‘Batman: Court of the Owls,’ ‘DC Metals,’ and ‘Batman: Last Knight On Earth.’
As previously reported by D-Rezzed, Snyder’s Best Jackett Press is focused on developing indie projects as well as work with Dark Horse Entertainment for future titles.
“Best Jackett Press is totally independent,” Snyder said at the time. “The idea of now being able to do something – to fund and help realize up-and-coming creators’ goals – is great.”
“All we’re asking is to recoup our investment, and a small percentage if it becomes the next Star Wars or something… but nothing predatory. I want to be able to pay it forward, and that’s a big part of what we’re doing at Best Jackett Press. We want to be good players in comics, and do things to push things forward and take risks,” he added.

‘The Guilty’ Stars Discuss The Unique Challenges Of Acting Through A Phone

0

‘The Guilty’ is a Netflix crime thriller starring Antoine Fuqua and Jake Gyllenhaal, the latter of whom plays a 911 operator trying to locate a victim. The film had its world premiere at the 2021 Toronto International Film Festival and a limited run in theaters before its streaming release.
With its unique premise, Gyllenhaal and Fuqua discussed in an interview the difficult and “unique challenges” of acting through a phone call.
“It is a film about sound, about listening, about what you hear, and what the reality is,” said Fuqua. “Capturing that is a whole other story, practically, because at that time we were filming, it was during the height of COVID, so we couldn’t have actors going to a regular stage and record, so we had to come up with a system with our sound guy on how to get these special boxes to actors who were all over the world, and then get their recording, but then do it live with Jake while he’s in a room performing, without any glitches.”
He continued, “Well, that didn’t happen at all. I think he had about five or six different voices in his ear at the same time because of the technical issues. We had to work off of the Zoom system as well. We figured it out eventually. I think Jake had probably performed each scene like it was a play, constantly, over and over and over, because the calls were coming back-to-back. There’s not a lot of cuts in between each call, so we had to almost do the entire script, in certain sections, as a play, with voices in his ear. It was challenging but it was amazing because of what happens naturally: it makes you lean in more because it was so difficult to hear. We use a lot of the dialogue from the first Zoom calls, ’cause the performances are just so raw, and, and a lot of Jake’s performance was so intense.”
Gyllenhaal, who also serves as a producer on the film, explained, “When I first sent the script to Antoine, what I said was, ‘Let’s shoot this movie in five days.’ That really got us going excited, the idea that we could shoot the movie in a very short period of time, the pressure would be on, just like it’s on Joe Baylor’s character. And if there’s anything I know about Antoine, he loves that pressure, and we both thrive in that space.”
He added, “So, we set this goal for ourselves, and slowly, that 5 days turned into 11 days. So we shot the movie and scheduled it for 11 days, and we designed this idea that we break it up into five sections and each one would be around 15 to 20 pages, and we’d shoot one of those sections every day. So, I would prepare Section 1, 2, 3, 4, and I would call Antoine as a secret and I’d say, ‘I have 1 to 4 memorized.’ He said, ‘Don’t tell anybody. We still have 11 days. Maybe we can shoot it in 9.'”
‘The Guilty’ streams to Netflix on October 1, 2021. You can watch the trailer below:

  • Ashlyn Madden (DC Superhero Girls) as Miyazu Atsuta
  • Stuart Allan (Batman vs. Robin) as Ichiro Dazai

According to Wikipedia, “The player assumes control of a high-school student who is unexpectedly drawn into investigating rumors about demons appearing in a tunnel with a pair of his other high-school friends. After entering said tunnel, a mysterious earthquake happens, and the player falls unconscious. When he awakens, he finds himself all alone in Da’At; an alternative apocalyptic version of Tokyo amidst an almighty battle between angels and demons. As he travels in the world, he shortly gets overrun by demons and is about to die, only to be saved by a being named Aogami. Together, they fuse into the Nahobino, a forbidden being that is neither human nor deity.”

William Shatner’s ‘Tekwar’ Returns Via Adult Animation

Over 25 years since the last episode of the TV series aired, Tekwar is making a comeback in a medium that can do it justice: mixed-reality animation. Much like with the comic book, the limitless possibilities of animation can overcome the hindrances found in live-action and gives the audience an element of immersion.
According to Deadline, Shatner’s tales from the year 2043 are “being conceptualized as a mixed-reality animated series where viewers will be able to participate with the show in different forms of technology via mobile, tablets or wearable devices.
William Shatner’s Tekwar has taken on many forms. At first, it was a series of books. Then a genuinely ahead-of-its-time comic book and live-action television movies/show. Eventually, Tekwar made its way to the video game market, too. Many of the luxuries and pitfalls of technology seen in the franchise were fantastical in the early ’90s but are now a staple of our reality.
The new series will be produced by Pure Imagination, the studio which has seen a lot of success with the LEGO franchise. The company has a Chief Executive of Fun. His name is Joshua Wexler. Where can I get a job like that?
The gentleman with the interesting job title had this to say about the upcoming task of adapting Tekwar into something new, “The world and story of TekWar transcends traditional linear media and has the potential to be experienced on multiple entertainment platforms, some that exist today and some we’ll have to invent, and we can’t wait to get started.
Many of the episodes are available on YouTube for those who missed out on the show and game. Check them out here:

‘Deathstroke Inc.’ Writer Dishes About The New DC Comics Release

0

Slade Wilson is a fan-favorite among DC Comics readers. Making his debut in the pages of Teen Titans, he has had his own series, made numerous appearances in media, and was a boss in two of the Batman: Arkham video games. Now, writer Joshua Williamson and artist Howard Porter are raising the stakes with a new solo series ‘Deathstroke Inc.’
DC Comics says on their website, “For more than forty years, Slade Wilson has been one of DC’s most compelling—and loathsome—antagonists. He’s famously targeted the Teen Titans numerous times, along with remaining a consistent threat across the DC Universe. And now he’s ready for something different.”
“Slade joins with an ages-old secret organization called T.R.U.S.T. His mission? Hunting down the biggest villains, with the coolest (and deadliest) technology at his disposal. But as Williamson is quick to note, just because Deathstroke is fighting bad guys, that absolutely doesn’t make him a good guy. Luckily, one genuine hero is on board to keep him in check: Black Canary,” they continue.
Williamson cautioned fans, “You should not root for Deathstroke. He has tried to walk the line of being a hero many times and it just never works out. This book is about that. How he’s coming to terms with the fact that he is not a good person. He’s not a family man. He is not someone who should lead a good life. What does he do when he finally realizes that?”
When asked why Justice League member Black Canary would work for Slade, Williamson explained that it was not a “sidekick” scenario.
“She’s there for multiple reasons,” he explained. “The big one involves something from her past… And she hates Slade. It’s 100% antagonistic. They worked together multiple times in the past, in Team 7 and during her times in the Birds of Prey. This is hardly the first time she’s been on a team with him. But in this case, she knows the best way to keep an eye on Slade is to partner with him. It’s a high price to pay, but Black Canary has a job to do.”
The first issue of ‘Deathstroke Inc.’ has been released in print and digital.
