Keanu Reeves Shares Update On ‘BRZRKR’ Netflix Film

‘BRZRKR’ is a twelve-part action comic book series from ‘John Wick’ actor Keanu Reeves, New York Times bestselling author Matt Kindt, and Eisner-nominated artist Ron Garney. The gory plot follows a seemingly immortal man who is working with the US military who wants to duplicate his abilities and is published by Boom Studios.
The comic book was almost immediately optioned by Netflix for a live-action film adaption starring Reeves and an anime series to follow. The ‘Bill & Ted Face the Music’ star recently gave an update on the movie to Collider where it seems there is a connection to the upcoming feature ‘The Batman.’
“We’re working with Netflix who have been very cool. They’re going to let us do an R-rated story which is cool,” Reeves said. “My ambition or hope is not to do a filmed version of the comic book so that they’ll have things in common, definitely the main character and his kind of rule set, but that we can take it to other places as well. We’re talking to a couple of different animation companies and trying to figure that out. And, again, for me I’m hoping to be inspired and influenced…there are some rules to the story, but I also want other creators to do their version of it. So I’m hoping to do a different version of a metaverse where in the sense having different storytellers with one set of rules but go other places with it. We’re working on trying to set up a company with the animation and we’ve hired a writer for the film Mattson Tomlin. He’s been cool and just starting to put things together. That’s where we’re at.”

Tomlin has written for such movies as ‘Project Power’ and ‘The Batman.’ He also served as director for the film ‘Mother/Android.’
Boom Studios describes ‘BRZRKR’ as follow “The man known only as B. is half-mortal and half-God, cursed and compelled to violence…even at the sacrifice of his sanity. But after wandering the world for centuries, the Berzerker may have finally found a refuge – working for the U.S. government to fight the battles too violent and too dangerous for anyone else. In exchange, B. will be granted the one thing he desires – the truth about his endless blood-soaked existence…and how to end it.”
Besides ‘BRZRKR,’ Reeves is also set to star in ‘The Matrix Resurrections,’ ‘John Wick: Chapter 4,’ and will lend his voice-acting talent to ‘DC League of Super-Pets.’

AWA Studios Announces New Comic Book Titles

0

AWA Studios announced that it is releasing two new comic book titles from writer John Lees in December. ‘Hotell’ got renewed for a second volume with Lees partnering with artists Dalibor Talajic and Lee Loughridge. ‘Crimson Cage’ is also entering production, described as a wrestling “reimagining” of William Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth.’
‘Hotell’ takes place at the haunted Pierrot Courts roadside motel that will follow five interconnected stories of horror. ‘Crimson Cage’ sees Lees working with Alex Cormack for a tale in 1984 New Orleans following wrestling champion Chuck Frenzy after an encounter with “terrifying beings” in the Bayou.

According to an AWA Studios press release, “Due to popular demand, AWA Studios has greenlit a second volume of HOTELL with the original creative team: John Lees, Dalibor Talajić and Lee Loughridge. This sequel anthology, which SCREEN RANT has called “One of the creepiest comics in years,” will be coming out this December.”
They continue, “But, there is more! John Lees is also introducing the literary world of Shakespeare to 80’s pro-wrestling with his other December series THE CRIMSON CAGE with Alex and Ashley Cormack. Journalist Andrew Dyce has stated that the concept is “too good for fans of either to pass up,” and we can’t agree more!”
AWA describes ‘Hotell’ as “Five more interconnected stories chronicle another harrowing week at Pierrot Courts, the mysterious roadside motel where lost souls make their last stand with the demons that haunt them. A family, desperate and destitute after being evicted from their home. A struggling artist, yearning for inspiration. A lonely bachelor, tending to his beloved, ailing dog. A brutal motorcycle gang, hunting for a runaway initiate…When all these haunted souls check into the Pierrot Courts, who will survive to check out?”
“Double double toil and rumble…Brace yourself for a No-Holds-Bard reimagining of William Shakespeare’s MACBETH from the critically-acclaimed creators of Sink. New Orleans, 1984,” AWA says of ‘Crimson Cage.’ “Chuck Frenzy is the main event star of the local Louisiana pro wrestling territory, but yearns for something greater. A fateful encounter with a trio of terrifying beings in the Bayou gives Chuck a glimpse of championship glory beyond his wildest dreams…if he is willing to do something terrible to achieve it. Join writer John Lees (HOTELL) and artist Alex Cormack (SEA OF SORROWS) for a thrilling new vision of the classic tale of ambition and madness, starting with this special, oversized first chapter.”

Bandai To Release Cinematic Deadpool in S.H.Figuarts Form

Bandai is adding a new character to S.H.Figuarts’s line of action figures. We spotted this new version of Deadpool over at Big Bad Toy Store. Deadpool will stand at just over 6″ tall and is on pre-order for $79.99. The estimated arrival date for the mutant mercenary is March 2022.
Bandai chose Deadpool’s cinematic version, and he looks pretty great. While this figure isn’t as budget-friendly as a Marvel Legends toy, the level of articulation and display possibilities is far better.
S.H.Figuarts figures are known for their articulation, accessories, and detail. Deadpool doesn’t fall short in any of those categories. From the texture of his suit, to the eyes, to even the hands, you can pose the merc with a mouth in nearly any pose … maybe even some naughty ones.

This Vampirella Action Figure Has … Very Generous Proportions

A couple of weeks ago, we covered the upcoming Vampirella statue. That thing looked great. Classic vampire seductress through and through. Today as I was checking Entertainment Earth, I saw another Vampirella item was hitting the market. However, two things caught my eye: the price and articulation.
Yeah, also, this action figure of the classic comic book character is rather stacked. I’m not sure her dimensions, but we know that Vampirella will stand at 6″ tall. She is interestingly priced at $69.99 (heh) and will be in the sweaty palms of collectors by July 2022.

When a spaceship from Earth crash lands on the dying planet Drakulon, the remaining dying inhabitants, the Vampiri, sends Vampirella to investigate to find the pilots from Earth have blood flowing through their veins; blood which at one point in time flowed in rivers through Drakulon but now has stopped flowing, causing the inhabitants to die off. Vampirella is able to pilot the spaceship back to Earth where she becomes a “good” vampire, and devotes her energy to ridding our world of the evil vampires.

Vampirella comes with the following accessories and interchangeable parts:

  • 2x Open hands
  • 2x Claw hands
  • 2x Grip hands
  • Removable cape
  • Ritual knife
  • Bat minion

Now, I like Vampirella’s costume and design in most comics and statues. This, however, could use a slight toning down. I know, that’s a weird statement coming from me. Her current measurements make her look almost comical. It’s unfortunate. The face, hair, and costume are all great, but her bust is hilariously huge.
It makes me wonder if she’ll need a figure stand to stay upright. Not only will she be top-heavy, but I’ve never owned an Executive Replicas figure before. I cannot say if the joints in their figures are tight or loose (heh).
OK, I’m tired of puns.

‘The Detective Is Already Dead’ is a series of mystery light novels and manga written by Nigojū and illustrated by Umibōzu. Published by Media Factory, the series launched in November 2019 and was released in North America by Yen Press. Its popularity led to a 12 episode anime developed by the Japanese studio ENGI released in July 2021. Funimation announced that they had acquired the rights to produce an English dub.
“The spoiler is in the title…but the story only starts there. We’re excited to announce that The Detective Is Already Dead English dub is officially headed to Funimation, and we’ve got all the details you need on cast, crew and more,” Funimation explains on their website. “Episode 1 of The Detective Is Already Dead English dub will arrive on Funimation, which means your journey with Siesta, Kimizuka and Nagisa is about to begin (or begin again!).”
Funimation continues, “The English voice cast for the series includes Austin Tindle (Tokyo Ghoul, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime) as Kimizuka, Xanthe Huynh (APPARE-RANMAN!, BNA: Brand New Animal) as Siesta, Arryn Zech (Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina, RWBY) as Nagisa, Kayleigh McKee (BEASTARS, Record of Ragnarok) as Bat and Jād Saxton (Fire Force, Kaguya-sama: Love is War) as Yui.”
You can watch the trailer for the show here:

Wikipedia describes the plot, “Ever since he was a child, Kimihiko Kimizuka has attracted trouble. According to him, he was born with a condition that naturally attracts him to troublesome situations, such as being forced to join a flash mob while taking a leisurely walk, accidentally stumbling across an underworld transaction between drug dealers, and being at the site of crime scenes often enough to sometimes be considered a suspect.
One particular day in his third year of junior high, he was kidnapped and forced to carry a suitcase onto an international flight; on that flight, he met Siesta, a woman who proclaims herself to be a “legendary detective”. Forcefully made into her sidekick, Kimihiko helped her stop the plane from being hijacked, but not before Kimihiko discovered the existence of underworld organizations. After being constantly pestered, Kimihiko agrees to be Siesta’s sidekick and for three years, they worked together, finding and solving an innumerable number of cases.
Now in his last year of senior high, Kimihiko is once again confronted by the ghosts of the past as he tries to solve new cases that fall into his lap. He is extremely bothered by the fact that he is called a detective; after all, the detective is already dead.”

What? Toucan Sam, Tony the Tiger, and Dig ‘Em Action Figures?

A couple of months ago, we reported on the action figures of Frankenberry and Count Chocula. Plastic Meatball is also getting in on the action, with a series of figures based on iconic Kellogg’s cereal mascots. Toucan Sam, Tony the Tiger, and Dig ‘Em Frog are currently available for $15 each at Plastic Meatball.
Each mascot is modeled after its early 1980s appearance. The scale is said to be 3.75″, but clearly, Tony stands taller than the other two. So, the tiger may be that tall, with the others coming in a 2.5″ or so. Each figure comes with a blister card. Each cardback is decorated just like the mascot’s cereal box.

Kellogg’s

Follow your nose to one of the greatest product mascots in advertising history! This iconic bird is ready to fly off of the box and into your collection. Based on his appearance in the early 1980’s, Toucan Sam™ and his retro-themed Froot Loops™ package are just as you remember him.

Kellogg’s

Give him a smack and he’ll smack you back! This iconic frog is ready to leap off of the box and into your collection. Based on his appearance in the early 1980’s, Dig ‘Em™ and his retro-themed Honey Smacks™ package are just as you remember him.

Kellogg’s

He’s GR-R-REAT! Perhaps the best known animated cereal mascot of all time is ready to leap off of the box and into your collection. Based on his appearance in the early 1980’s, Tony the Tiger™ and his retro-themed Frosted Flakes™ package are just as you remember him.

I hope Plastic Meatball obtains the rights to the Quaker Oats mascots, as well. Who doesn’t want a Cap’n Crunch action figure? Maybe throw in a couple of Soggies. Hell, throw Quisp in there with King Vitaman (the original one) for good measure.

Feast Like He-Man With These Castle Grayskull Mugs and Cookie Jar

Themed dining items can really liven up a boring dinner party. But, for genuinely manly men like myself, we prefer something with a bit more punch. Something that stands out and shows that we are masters of our suburban kingdom. Yes, I refer to Masters of the Universe dining accessories.
Factory Entertainment will be releasing three new Castle Grayskull-themed items for those who want to turn their kitchens and dining rooms into Eternia. These things include a Grayskull tiki mug, Grayskull stein, and Grayskull cookie jar. For effect, make sure those cookies are high in protein.
These items will be sold exclusively through the Big Bad Toy Store. Each Castle Grayskull ceramic thingie will be shipping in the second quarter of 2022. The cookie jar will set you back $79.99, while the mug and stein are $39.99 and $69.99, respectively.

I quite like the stein. The cookie jar, though, is really where it’s at. How can you pass up something that is the whole castle and holds cookies? As a kid, I used to have Burger King cups that had mini-comics printed on them. They lasted me right up to college before eventually becoming so faded that you couldn’t read the panels.
Interested in Grayskull kitchenware? What other Masters of the Universe items would be interested in seeing? An Orko oven that always burns your food? A Man-At-Arms dishwasher? Let us know in the comments.

Venom’s Carnage Comes Fully Loaded With His New Hot Toys Figure

Venom: Let There Be Carnage hit theatres this weekend and cleaned house. The film brought with it the long-awaited arrival of Carnage, a symbiote almost as iconic as Venom. Of course, Hot Toys would not pass up a chance to make a 1/6th scale figure of the blood-red killing machine.
The deadly symbiote attached to the murderous Cletus Kasady will be making his way into homes during the first quarter of 2021. Carnage will stand a bit taller than Venom and is lankier. The figure will come with his signature claws, blades, and tentacles. A deluxe edition of Carnage also ships with a Venom bust.
Sideshow is taking pre-orders now for Carnage, which will cost $510 for the deluxe version and $445 for the standard release.

Expertly crafted based on the screen appearance of Carnage from Venom: Let There Be Carnage, the highly accurate figure measures approximately 43cm tall displays a great level of detailed sculpting, specially on the texture of skin, fearsome fanged mouth, and tongue. The 1:6th scale figure introduces a body painted with crimson red and black webbing; two newly developed head sculpts featuring a grinning head sculpt, and a head sculpt with fanged mouth and three interchangeable protruding tongues; monstrous weapons and accessories including attacking claws, sickle, sword, also a number of symbiote tentacles sprouting from its back with different styles of interchangeable symbiote parts; and a figure stand.
Moreover, a Deluxe Version featuring Venomized Eddie Brock head sculpt with bust stand is a must have for extended display.

After years of watching comic book movies get “creative” with heroes and villains in big-screen adaptations, it’s refreshing to see Carnage look almost identical to his original comic book debut.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage recently broke a record with a $90 million haul during the second year of the pandemic. We won’t spoil anything, but the Venom universe just got a whole log bigger with this sequel and could finally merge with a certain web-slinger’s world.

Celebrate Elvira’s 40th With This 8″ Tall NECA Action Figure

The Mistress of the Dark has been around for forty years. The horror hostess with the valley girl attitude has been a staple of Halloween almost since Cassandra Peterson brought her to life. Now, NECA is making something every Elvira fan wants, an 8″ tall figure with all the significant assets.
Available during the first quarter of 2022, Elvira’s action figure comes with a cloth dress, showcasing her ample … commodities. She’ll also come with an interchangeable head spotting a wink and her not-so-lethal dagger.

NECA

Celebrating 40 years of Elvira, Mistress of the Dark! The devilishly delightful Cassandra Peterson has played the part of Elvira for 40 years with grace, humor and more than a little camp. NECA is proud to present this fiendishly fantastic figure for your horror collection. The 8” Elvira action figure is fully articulated and features tailored fabric clothing, plus plenty of accessories… alternate winking head, skull, chalice, figure stand, and her signature dagger, which slips into a loop on the belt.

A crowdfunding campaign recently successfully reached its goal to get Elvira’s original comic book from Claypool back into print. But, unfortunately, it came out during a time when indie comic book artists, writers, and publishers were taking risks and making strides that the big two companies were afraid of. Sadly, one or two popular books can’t sustain a company.

Oddly, this year I didn’t see the typical amount of Elvira merchandise on the shelves that I usually do. But then again, most stores I go to barely had anything in stock for the holiday. Not to mention that most of the merchandise was cleared out by October 1st to make room for Christmas. So yeah, nothing makes me think of Christmas more than 90-degree weather in Florida… gawd.
What are your thoughts on Elvira and her brand of corny, campy, and pervy humor? Let us know in the comments.
