The television adaption of the Dynamite comic book ‘The Boys’ has been a critical and commercial hit for Amazon Prime. The show follows a gang of regular humans trying to take down the superhero community, particularly, The Seven. With a third season on the way, Amazon recently announced that they have reached with Sony Pictures Television to make a spin-off set in the universe.
“The as-yet-untitled new series from Sony Pictures Television is set at America’s only college for superheroes,” Amazon said in a press release. “Class is in session for the Supes. Amazon Studios has ordered a new series spinoff of The Boys, the Emmy-nominated subversive superhero drama from Sony Pictures Television. The untitled new series will premiere exclusively on Amazon Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.”
Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters were tapped as showrunners and executive producers.
Amazon explains that the plot will be set “at America’s only college exclusively for young-adult superheroes (run by Vought International), the Untitled The Boys Spinoff is an irreverent, R-rated series that explores the lives of hormonal, competitive Supes as they put their physical, sexual, and moral boundaries to the test, competing for the best contracts in the best cities. It’s part college show, part Hunger Games—with all the heart, satire, and raunch of The Boys.”
The Boys’ showrunner and executive producer Eric Kripke said, “Much like Mork & Mindy spun-off from Happy Days—which is an insane and true fact—our spinoff will exist in the Vought Cinematic Universe, yet have a tone and style all its own. It’s our take on a college show, with an ensemble of fascinating, complicated, and sometimes deadly Young Supes.”
He added, “Michele and Tara are stone-cold geniuses, we’re thrilled to have them steer this ship, and grateful to Sony and Amazon for the opportunity. We love this show and can’t wait for you to see it. Also, Baywatch Nights spun-off from Baywatch, and it had vampires. Vampires!”
The series will feature Jaz Sinclair, Lizze Broadway, Shane Paul McGhie, Aimee Carrero, Reina Hardesty, and Maddie Phillips as the young superheroes.

A New Multiplayer Marvel Game Is Rumored For the PS5
Sony’s Playstation 5 may be getting an exclusive Marvel Comics multiplayer game. At least that is the rumor we saw being reported over at ComingSoon.
The info came from the XboxEra podcast, episode 76, hosted by Nick Baker. In the podcast, he makes a short statement about a rumor he heard about a Marvel multiplayer game being developed for Sony’s PS5. Baker admits that it sounds silly, but it may not be too far-fetched considering Sony’s success with Insomniac’s Spider-Man games.
Check out the timestamped video below for the info in question.
The last time we got some multiplayer Marvel action was with The Avengers game from SquareEnix. Unfortunately, that title didn’t fare too well after launch. The Sony-exclusive Spider-Man in-game character still hasn’t launched, and we’re rapidly coming up on the first anniversary.
To be fair, the game has received several free expansions, but the amount of work that a player needs to dedicate to the game in order to unlock anything is insane. As a result, Avengers feels like a freemium game but designed for a console.
I finished the campaign within the first week after launch and quickly got bored. The post-campaign gameplay consists of doing the same handful of missions repeatedly to grind experience and materials so you can afford a few nice-looking character skins. Yup that smells like a mobile game to me.
I’m not sure where the player base stands right now, but it was nearly impossible to get a game going with a whole crew of people a few months post-launch. Of course, it didn’t help that even the Earth’s mightiest of heroes felt drastically underpowered when facing robots and clones of Abomination and Taskmaster. Yeah… imagine the Hulk getting his ass kicked by a scrawny robot.
I want escapism when it comes to my superhero viddy games, brah. So please don’t put up these arbitrary roadblocks when it comes to demigods and rage monsters.
What are your thoughts on this rumor? Is it destined to be another Avengers debacle, or could this be something better? Let us know in the comments.

Hot Toys Unveils A Vicious Looking ‘Carnage’ Red ‘Venom’ Figure
Hot Toys will be releasing a “Carnage Red” version of their Artist Mix Venom figure. Like other remixes along this line, it’s the exact figure cast in red plastic with glow-in-the-dark chemicals mixed in. The end result, admittedly, is way better than the original version.
Carnage himself tends to be more slender than Venom, at least in their classic forms. Something about this works, though. We came across this variant over at Figures.com.
We know this figure because he stands at 34cm tall and has two interchangeable heads. Unfortunately, the price point was not readily available, but we know that he’ll be shipping out around the first and second quarters of 2022.
If you pick up Venom, do yourself a favor and invest in a small blacklight for your display case or shelf. This guy deserves to be see seen in all his glow-in-the-dark glory. Why buy a figure with this feature if you’re not going to exploit it every evening?
Thoughts? Does the Carnage red look better on a slimmer symbiote? Let us know your opinions in the comments.

Empire Reveals Two New ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ Covers
Print is dead. That is unless it comes with a sweet cover showcasing the classic and new Ghostbusters. No, not the 2016 Ghostbusters. We’re talking about the real Ghostbusters.
Empire unveiled two covers for the November issue of its printed magazine. The standard cover shows off the original Ghostbusters and the new recruits, Stay Puft, Grabber, and Ecto-1.
The subscriber-exclusive, on the other hand, is totally different. That cover features a group of Mini-Pufts climbing a rope to the Empire title covered in green slime. It’s simple but cute. So why do I have a feeling the Minis are being played up as a considerable part of the movie but will only appear in a couple of scenes?
In this month’s issue of Empire, we’re crossing the streams between the original movie and the new one – getting father-and-son team Ivan and Jason Reitman together to talk the continuing legacy of Ghostbusters, from the original classic, to Ghostbusters II, and the imminent Afterlife. Not just that, but the pair also united for a world-exclusive photo shoot at their GhostCorps base in LA with the original Ecto-1, proton packs and ghost traps – which you’ll find alongside brand new never-before-seen images from Ghostbusters: Afterlife.
Now, I haven’t read an issue of Empire in years. So, I can’t tell you if this is worth buying or not. What I can say is that the subscriber-only cover is cute enough to be framed.
After a lengthy delay, Ghostbusters: Afterlife will hit theatres on November 19, 2021. The film picks up decades after the original team disbanded and Egon moved to a rural area, possibly to monitor another Gozerian temple. After Egon passes, his family moves into his humble but creepy home and uncovers a secret lurking below the surface.
What are your thoughts on the covers? Let us know in the comments.

Ray Harryhausen’s Iconic and Monstrous Talos Can Now Be Yours
Talos, the bronze monster from 1963’s Jason and the Argonauts, has been recreated in vinyl and stands almost 20″ tall. Due out between March and May 2022, the legendary being from an age long past will cost $485 for the deluxe version and $435 for the standard release (no base).
Don Chaffey’s Greek action-adventure film featured many creations from special-effects magician Ray Harryhausen. Talos is just one of those puppets created for the film. Now the metallic monolith is available to own thanks to X-Plus and Sideshow.
This “Gigantic” version of Talos is posed as the great titan was when first encountered by Sinbad. Traditionally sculpted by the artisans of the famed creature shop of Kaibutsuya, this detailed Talos statue is made from soft vinyl. Each piece is hand-painted to look like it has an ancient Bronze finish.
The artists over at X-Plus captured the creepy look of Talos. When he first appears in the film, he cocks his head in an eerie way. The shadows make his face look eyeless. It’s a creepy way to introduce us to this monster. Of course, the slightly janky movement due to the stop motion process adds to that effect.
Jason and the Argonauts is possibly one of the greatest cinematic epics of all time. Not only did it take audiences on a fantastical journey into the world of Greek gods and goddesses, but it also brought us some of Ray Harryhausen’s most iconic stop motion creations.
If you’re interested in more info on the late Ray Harryhausen’s wondrous works, check out this documentary.

Kotobukiya Makes Magnet Great Again With This Fine Arts Statue
The man who would see all mankind bow before mutants is represented his all his terrifying glory thanks to Kotobukiya‘s new statue. Magneto, the decades-old foe of Xavier’s X-MEN, stands at almost 16″ tall and is cast in resin. He welcomes you to die.
The statue is currently available for pre-order at the Big Bad Toy Store. Magnus will run you $379.99 and will ship in May 2022.
The latest addition to the revamped Fine Art Statue line is the X-Men villain and master of magnetic fields, Magneto. Standing over 40cm tall, this impressive piece is Kotobukiya’s second rendition of Magneto in statue form.
When I was a kid, Magneto was the most fearsome villain in Marvel Comics. Sure, Doom was probably the better overall baddie, but the Master of Magnetism was genocidal. Like many great bad guys, Magneto was complex. A Holocaust survivor, Magneto knew first had the evil that lay in mankind and how easily they could be swayed to turn against others they saw as “different.”
He has seen several changes over the years, even being somewhat redeemed after nearly being crippled during the Fatal Attractions storyline. However, I’ll always prefer the classic ’80s and ’90s Magneto.
I think Sir Ian McKellen did a pretty good job in the first two films portraying the character. There was some humanity in him, though I doubt the mutant would like that term. However, it is unfortunate that the X-MEN films’ timelines got all messy and retconned. I think it diminished the character’s importance as an advisory to Xavier and his team.
How about you, true believer? What version of the Evil Mutant leader is your favorite? Who would you cast as the next Magneto in the inevitable MCU reboot? Let us know in the comments.

HBO Max Developing A Documentary Celebrating The DC Comics Legacy
DC Comics has a rich history developing characters and story-arcs that have become ingrained in pop culture. Superheroes like Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, as well as their rogues like Joker, Lex Luthor, Cheetah, and Deathstroke are recognizable worldwide. Creators like Bob Kane, Bill Finger, Marv Wolfman, Jerry Siegel, and Joe Shuster have all brought geeks, nerds, and general audiences numerous hours of entertainment.
It comes as no surprise that HBO Max is developing a documentary miniseries to celebrate the DC Comics legacy. The three-part feature is being co-directed by award-winning filmmaker Leslie Iwerks with film editor Mark Catalena.
According to the DC Comics website, “Produced by Warner Bros. Unscripted Television in association with Warner Horizon, DC, Berlanti Productions and Iwerks & Co., the documentary series takes an unprecedented look at the enduring and influential legacy of DC, allowing fans to rediscover the universe of characters, as well as the iconic comic book company’s origins, its evolution and its nearly nine-decade cultural impact across every artistic medium.”
DC Chief Creative Officer and ‘Batman: Hush’ artist Jim Lee explained, “DC has a rich legacy of over 80 years of iconic storytelling: from the introduction of the genre-defining Super Hero Superman in 1938 to the amazing movies, TV shows, cartoons, games and comics which have been synonymous with superheroism for generations thereafter. We are so excited to dive into this history and bring fans along this amazing journey.”
“The DC Universe is vast, rich and incredibly cool, and we’re looking forward to bringing the untold stories of the characters, artists and storytellers to life in a fresh new way,” Iwerks said.
“The geeks have inherited the earth,” added Catalena. “By revealing the personal inspirations from those who have crafted this expansive universe, we hope viewers will understand why this modern mythology matters so much to people.”
No release date or confirmation on what specifically will be highlighted has been revealed yet.
What Does Japan think of the Netflix Cowboy Bebop Opening?
Last month Netflix revealed the first look of the actors dressed as the main characters from the live action adaption of Cowboy Bebop. The photo reveals were met with many mixed feelings from Japanese fans about how the characters were being portrayed, so far. Now we have our first look of the characters in action with a recently released opening credit sequence. And people of Japan have their thoughts, as to be expected.
It’s hard to top the masterpiece of the anime opening, so it’s a pleasant surprise to many that the Netflix version decided to stick with same song “Tank!”, by Yoko Kanno, with similar stylistic choices in the creation. Some parts were kept similar while many others were quite different, portraying hints of the storylines to be shown in the series.
Here are some of the positive responses from people in Japan:
“I was assuming Netflix was just gonna completely rewrite the series, but I saw a bunch of sub-characters I recognize from the anime, so I’m pretty excited now!”
“They have a ton of characters from the anime in it! Really looking forward to watching it!”
“It’s clever how the anime opening had English text in the background, but this has Japanese.”
“You can really feel the respect they have for the source material by keeping “Tank!” as the opening theme. The visuals still feel a little off, but I think this’ll turn out good.”
“I think it’s going to be like the Nolan Batman movies. If you compare it to the original work, it won’t feel right to you, but you can enjoy it in a different way than the original.”
Of course, there will be those who are still unsure about the Netflix series. Most of those being anime fans. It’s just hard not to compare it to the anime.
“It just feels lame.”
“The respect they have for the original really shows, and the [music] is awesome, but it feels off.”
“Is this some kind of fan-made parody?”
“Quit turning anime into live-action, dammit!”
“Watching this really reminds you how great the anime was.”
However there is one thing pretty much everyone agrees upon.
“Excellent job casting Ein.”
“Ein looks perfect.”
“Nominate that pup for Best Supporting Dog.”
Look for it to come to Netflix worldwide on November 19th.
