Mondo’s ‘Back to the Future’ Vinyl Features Rare Drew Struzan Artwork

0

The original soundtrack for Back to the Future is pretty great. While it’s not the complete score, it still features the iconic theme and two Huey Lewis and the News hits. Mondo Music is sending us back in time with this new vinyl release of the OST. It features some rarely seen alternative artwork from Drew Struzan.
Struzan created quite a few posters for BTTF that were never used, but they’re equally as beautiful as his other works for films like Adventures in Babysitting, Big Trouble in Little China, and the two Back to the Future sequels.
As seen below, the vinyl is available in two styles, either in all Delorean steel or as a tri-colored album.

Mini-Pufts Now Included with HasLab’s Ghostbusters Proton Pack

This Thanksgiving weekend, Hasbro’s Ghostbusters Proton Pack crowdfunding campaign successfully surpassed the 11k backer stretch goal. The HasLab project now sits at 11,348 pre-orders for the prop replica.
With Class II unlocked, that means we all get Mini-Pufts and “marshmallow” goo decore to hang on the packs. If you’ve not yet seen Ghostbusters: Afterlife, there are minor spoilers ahead.
The Mini-Pufts show up during the final battle with Gozer to cause havoc for Podcast and Trevor. The tiny manifestations of Gozer act like gremlins, causing mechanical and electrical failures while the young Ghostbusters attempt to stop the destructive god.

Hasbro

Welcome to the new age of bustin’ with the Ghostbusters: Afterlife unlock. Celebrate the Ghostbusters legacy while at the same time looking forward to the future with this unlockable bundle that includes 3 Plasma Series Mini-Pufts figures AND 3 alternate, swappable heads, featuring NEW DECO! And because Mini-Pufts are so mischievous, they tend to get into everything. That’s why we’re including a white marshmallow goo attachment to raise the stakes. We wanted to give you that classic marshmallow good look… without that icky, gooey feeling.  It’s tough bustin’ ghosts when your equipment is being tinkered with by a horde of demonic, toddler-like Mini-Pufts. Sweet.

Considering that the pack managed to pass multiple stretch goals one week after another, it may be possible that this thing reaches Class IV. That won’t happen until 15k backers join in. The Class III goal is kind of lame, and if Hasbro really wanted this thing to maximize its pre-orders, they’d combine Class III and IV together for 13k backers. Really, who wants a notebook and stickers as a stretch goal? No, thanks. I want the stand!
Did you pre-order Spengler Proton Pack? In the comments section below, let us know what you think about Hasbro using crowdfunding to produce high-end collectibles.

Super7 Introduces More ReAction Figures Based On Universal Monsters

Wave 3 of Super7’s Universal Monsters ReAction figures have arrived. With it comes some much needed representation. However, since the significant characters have appeared in the previous waves, no, it’s time to move on to those horror movie villains we don’t usually see.
Boris Karloff appears twice in this wave as Ardath Bey from The Mummy and The Monster, as seen in Son of Frankenstein. Bela Lugosi also returns, but this time as the misshapen Ygor from Son of Frankenstein. There is also a welcome return of Lon Chaney. This time he appears in this wave as the Hunchback of Notre Dame.
Now, when can we get his “vampire” from London After Midnight? I guess that would mean Super7 would need to get a license for MGM’s monsters. I’m all for it. That means we could get Fu Manchu and Dr. Jekyll, and Mr. Hyde.

Super7

Imhotep has risen, and walks among us as Ardeth Bey, a mysterious Egyptian historian who is desperate to resurrect his forbidden love, the princess Ank-su-namun.

Super7

Though she’ll never requite his love, there’s nothing Quasimodo, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, won’t do for his beloved Esmeralda.

Super7

If you’re Baron Wolf von Frankenstein, sure you’d like to redeem your family name, and show that the monster your father created can actually be a man, but as he learns the hard way, re-branding can be just as peril-fraught as reanimation.

Super7

While beauty (or lack thereof) may often only be skin-deep, in the case of Ygor, his twisted physique does not belie the twisted heart of a murderer.

Super7
By the look of the cardback, the “civilized” Creature may be the last in this line. There are still a few more monsters out there that have yet to be ReActionized. Which classic baddies are you looking forward to?

Anime Film ‘Ensemble Stars!! -Road to Show!!’ Announced

0

‘Ensemble Stars’ is a life simulation mobile video game franchise created by Happy Elements K.K. Its popularity led to a 2015 manga spin-off written by Sayo Ichi and published by Kodansha that ran for four volumes. In 2019, Japanese animation studio David Production created an anime series that ran for twenty-four episodes.
This has now led to an anime film spin-off titled ‘Ensemble Stars!! -Road to Show!!’ is set to be released in March 2022. They also released a teaser poster:

Funimation said on their website, “This is one flight you won’t want to miss, Ensemble Stars fans! Makoto, Hokuto, Subaru, Mao and the rest of the gang will be flying out to New York to attend the Idol Film Festival in Ensemble Stars!! -Road to Show!!-, which’ll touch down in Japanese theaters on March 4, 2022!” They add, “The film will be an original story featuring the above characters and others, linked to the popular mobile game with events due to start this December.”
Masakazu Hishida and Asami Nakatani are co-directing the film for David Production, who tapped Happy Elements writer Seitarō Kino to handle the script.
MyAnimeList describes the plot of the anime as follows, “Yumenosaki Academy has been home to the best boy idols of different generations. Holding immense influence over the school, its student council maintains the status quo by enforcing old traditions with an iron fist. Transfer student Anzu winds up attending as the very first member in the production course, making her the sole female student in the entire school. There, she meets Subaru Akehoshi, Hokuto Hidaka, Mao Isara, and Makoto Yuuki—her classmates and members of the idol unit ‘Trickstar.'”
They continue, “The academy holds Dream Idol Festivals—stage battles that put its students’ singing and dancing skills against each other, with the audience voting on the winner. Winning these “DreFes” guarantees the members of the idol unit various privileges and prestige. However, with the student council intervening and punishing everyone involved in an unsanctioned DreFes, the members of Trickstar find that they can no longer sit around and let it continue. Alongside Anzu as their producer, they plot to become the revolutionaries of the academy.”

These additions, in conjunction with the currently streaming LUPIN THE 3rd PART 6, make HIDIVE a must-watch destination for fans of the LUPIN THE 3rd franchise,” they continued.
‘Lupin the 3rd’ is based on an adventure manga of the same name written and illustrated by Kazuhiko Katō under the pen name Monkey Punch. The manga kicked off in 1971 in the pages of Weekly Manga Action before Tokyopop began serializing it in collected editions. Its popularity led to an anime adaption with part six being produced by TMS Entertainment and released in 2021.
HIDIVE described Part Six, saying, “Gentleman thief Lupin III is back and ready for his next caper — unless legendary sleuth, Sherlock Holmes, has anything to say about it! After a terrible crime comes to light in London, none other than Lupin tops the suspects list. With Holmes fast closing in, Lupin must prove his innocence and bring a shadowy organization called The Raven to heel if he wants to live to steal another day.”

X-Force is a group of mutants who do the dirtier jobs that Xavier wouldn’t want his X-MEN to take part in. So it makes sense why Wolverine and Deadpool would occasionally be a part of the time. Unfortunately, both mutants tend to get a bit … kill-happy with their pointy weapons.
X-Force always felt like a comic book to try out getting the newer mutants a spotlight. If they stuck, then maybe they would be good enough for the Blue or Gold X-MEN roster. You know the characters I’m talking about—the ones who were similar to Boom Boom and Strong Guy.
Why we haven’t had an X-Force movie is beyond me. Now that Disney has all of Marvel under its belt, we may never see an overly violent mutant film. Thanks a lot, New Mutants. Damn angsty, continually delayed waste of time.
Of course, the Deadpool sequel had a version of X-Force, but it was full of failure.

These Drago Statues Won’t Break Rocky, But He Will Break Your Wallet

Ivan Drago posed a threat like no other to the Italian Stallion. Rocky watched as the emotionless Russian clobbered Apollo Creed into an early grave. What the camp didn’t know was that Drago was the product of Soviet scientific training and steroids. Of course, Rocky refused to let anything get in his way of beating Drago. Queue the snow-covered montage of Rocky training like a hero he is.
Regardless of how villainous Drago is, he was possibly Balboa’s greatest foe. So much so that he returned in Creed 2 with a surprising redemption arc. Again, Dolph Lundgren can pull out great performances when given the right director. For that, he deserves not one but two statues dedicated to his Siberian Bull character.
PCS has created a set of Ivan Drago statues. Each sports the colors seen in the first and final fight during Rocky IV. The artists at PCS managed to capture Lundgren’s unflinching gaze perfectly. The downside? The two statues will set you back $2,299.99.
Sideshow, so you can take advantage of their layaway plan if so desired.

The Ivan Drago: Siberian Bull 1:3 Scale Statue features tailored yellow and red fabric shorts accented with a hammer and sickle design. He also includes a matching jacket that can be displayed on the figure or nearby on the accompanying proximity stand. Finished with sculpted yellow and red boots, yellow and white socks, and red gloves, Ivan Drago is ready for a lethal fight against Apollo Creed.

Peyton Reed Announces ‘Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania’ Has Wrapped Filming

0

‘Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania’ director Peyton Reed took to social media to make the announcement that the Marvel Studios film has officially wrapped filming. He also marked the occasion by sharing a piece from Mark James Hiblin, which depicts Scott Pym and Janet Van Dyne as Ant-Man and the Wasp, respectively.

“Principal photography on ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA is now complete! Can’t wait to show you all what we’ve been up to… (Art by Mark James Hiblin),” Reed wrote. Now the film will enter post-production.
The movie stars Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Evangeline Lily as Wasp, Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet Van Dyne, Kathryn Newton will take over as Cassie Lang, and Jonathan Majors will reprise his role from ‘Loki,’ but will officially enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the villain Kang the Conqueror, according to Slash Film.
Newton, who is taking over the role as Cassie from Emma Fuhrmann from ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ has stated how “honored” she is to join the MCU.
“I still feel like I can’t talk about it because I’m not on set and I just don’t want to jinx anything until I’m really there, making the movie,” Newton told the Hollywood Reporter. “But it’s a dream come true for me to be a part of the MCU, and I’m so honored and so grateful because I love the Marvel universe so much. Five years ago, if you asked me what my dream was, I would have said, ‘To be in a Marvel movie.’”
“I made a joke that my dad still doesn’t officially know,” Newton joked. “I think he’s seen it on my Instagram, but I haven’t told him because I don’t want to get in trouble when he goes to Starbucks and just starts talking to somebody about it. Now I can say, ‘It’s not my fault! I didn’t tell him!’ I love my parents, but you don’t want them to tell anybody anything.”
‘Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania’ is set to be released in theaters on July 28, 2023!

Deadpool Co-Creator Rob Liefeld Celebrates ‘X-Force’ 30th Anniversary

Rob Liefeld is a well-known name among comic book readers, especially those familiar with Marvel Comics. Most know him as the co-creator of X-Men characters like Deadpool and Cable, but as also the writer of indie releases like ‘Agent America’ and Image Comics ‘Youngblood.’
Celebrating the 30th Anniversary of X-Force, a comic book run that broke records in the 1990s, Liefeld reflects on the series and how Cable played a role in the series with Marvel’s website.
When asked where the idea of Cable came from, Liefeld explained, “I was tasked with introducing a new character to impact the NEW MUTANTS comic which had fallen way back from the rest of the X-Men line (in) terms of sales. I wanted a character that looked like a tough guy on the surface but who was as smart as Reed Richards. All the mystery I brought to the character was inspired by my love of soap operas, as well as my love of the Wolverine character who I had followed from his first appearance. Slowly I was able to peel back all the layers, the time travel, his secret legacy, his ultimate mission; it was a blast watching the fans welcome him and see the comic turn a corner as a result.”
“He was always a legacy character, a Summers son,” he continued. “Look no further than X-FORCE #1, pages 32-33, when I’m finally depicting him using his telekinesis and Domino freaks out, cautioning him from revealing his true identity. That was the next escalation of his mystery I’d been building toward. I knew exactly what I was doing, peeling back the mystery layer by layer.”
When asked why characters like Deadpool and Cable endured for so long, Liefeld pointed to their legacy.
“They are the templates for much what followed,” he said. “Suddenly a bunch of sci-fi, gun-toting warriors became everyone’s go-to solution for higher sales. But Cable and co. were the forbearers of that style because of the impact they had. Cable transformed the X-Universe in the span of 13 months.”
To celebrate the anniversary, Marvel Comics released ‘X-Force: Killshot Anniversary Special’ #1 which is available now.
