‘The Chronicles of Lizzie Borden’ star Christina Ricci is set to join the cast of ‘The Dresden Sun,’ an indie science fiction film from director Michael Ryan, who also helmed 2007’s ‘The Silencer & the Sky.’
Ricci joins as the character “cosmic technology” inventor Dr. Dresden Corliss, who is still grieving the loss of a loved one. She is joined in the cast by Samantha Win (‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League,’ ‘Army of the Dead’) and Terry Maratos (‘You Only Live Once,’ ‘3 Days with Dad’).
Deadline reports that the “film observes as a heist goes south when a brilliant, principled mercenary with a traumatic past works with an insider to steal a valued asset from Peredor Corporation called “the sphere.” The C & Earth corporation, vying for global dominance, seeks to find a solution to an otherworldly technology via a scientist’s project. Meanwhile, a financial analyst, who despises his job at the powerful investment firm Mutual One, finds himself caught between deadly corporate rivals, financial fraud, and technological espionage, and is ultimately forced to run from a psychopathic military contractor.”
Ryan is not only directing the cyberpunk movie but also serves as the writer as well as the co-producer with Tyler Lockamy through their Archetype Pictures film production banner. Alex Newport (‘Underground Inc: The Rise & Fall of Alternative Rock’) is handling the musical score.
Christina Ricci can currently be seen on the Showtime horror drama ‘Yellowjackets,’ but the veteran actress has also appeared in such shows as ‘Ally McBeal’ and ‘Pan Am.’ She also appeared in several films including ‘Speed Racer,’ ‘The Smurfs 2,’ ‘Bucky Larson: Born to Be a Star,’ ‘Black Snake Moan,’ ‘The Addams Family,’ ‘Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas,’ and ‘Alpha and Omega.’
She is set to appear in the upcoming sequel ‘The Matrix Resurrections’ and director Chris Sivertson’s horror flick ‘Monstrous.’

Romance Manga ‘More Than a Married Couple, But Not Lovers’ Is Getting An Anime
‘More Than a Married Couple, But Not Lovers’ is a romantic comedy manga written and illustrated by Yūki Kanamaru. The series kicked off in March 2018 and follows a group of high school students who are doing a mock-marriage project. Six volumes have been released by Kadokawa Shoten through their Young Ace magazine before being released in collected editions.
Kanamaru recently announced that the manga series is getting an anime adaption and also released a special image on social media.

“Important announcement,” roughly translated, Kanamaru wrote. “[More Than a Married Couple, But Not Lovers] Animated project is in progress! All thanks to everyone’s support! Thank you so much.”
There has been no announcement on the studio, format, staff, cast, writer, or which director who will helm the anime, according to the Anime News Network.
Baka-Update Manga describes the synopsis:
“Yakuin Jirou a third-year High-School student hopes that he will get his first love from the same class Sakurazaka Shiori as a practice partner in his High-schools mandatory “Couple-Practical”. In this practical, students have to demonstrate that they have the necessary skill-set to live on their own with a partner of the opposite sex while presenting a certain level of harmony to the video surveillance that grades them.
Unfortunately random chance put his slightly subdued self into the practice with the person most opposite of him, the Gyaru Watanabe Akari. Akari on the other hand hoped to be in the practice with her crush Tenjin Minami instead.
Their hopes are doubly dashed when they find out that Shiori and Minami were assigned together, so they decide to reluctantly cooperate to receive a top ten rating which gives the top ten couples the right to exchange partners if both couples agree. To that end, Jirou steals Akari’s first kiss on the lips without realizing what he’d done while giving a hurried good-bye kiss.”
Thus far, the manga series has not been officially licensed for an English translation.
DC Comics Returns Nightwing Back To Blüdhaven In New Graphic Novel
After being shot in the head by KGBeast during Tom King’s run on Batman, Nightwing took on a darker persona, becoming “Rick Grayson” and distant from his adopted family. DC Comics returned the character to his roots as he dons his black and blue costume once again to make a name for himself.
Writer Tom Taylor’s on the ‘Nightwing’ series brought the character’s cheery personality back to the forefront and restored a lot of his superhero traits. The first part of his run will be collected in ‘Nightwing Vol. 1: Leaping Into The Light,’ which features artwork from Bruno Redondo, Adriano Lucas, and Wes Abbott.

“Nightwing is back in Blüdhaven! It’s been a long time since Dick Grayson has been himself, but now he’s smiling again, cracking wise, sticking up for the little guy, and sticking it to the bad guys,” DC Comics writes on their website. “Dick’s life is beginning to have a sense of normalcy: he’s got an apartment and a new—and totally adorable—three-legged puppy named Haley, who also has an alter ego named Bitewing. Barbara Gordon is now back in his life, too… but this time it feels different, like she could be the one. Still, ensuring Blüdhaven’s safety is no small task, especially now that the city is being menaced by Nightwing’s most terrifying foe yet—a mysterious and murderous villain with a penchant for stealing and collecting his victims’ hearts, known only as Heartless.”
They add, “The city Nightwing has sworn to protect has also appointed a new mayor…with the last name Zucco. When Dick investigates this politician bearing the same name as the man who murdered his parents, he discovers details that will shock him and fundamentally change the hero forever.”
Zucco, of course, relates to Tony “Fats” Zucco, a gangster running a protection racket in Gotham City who murdered Grayson’s parents. Batman and Robin take down Zucco in “Batman: Dark Victory,” a sequel to “The Long Halloween.”
Netflix Unveils Poster For Korean Sci-Fi Series ‘The Silent Sea’
Netflix released a poster for the upcoming South Korean science fiction film ‘The Silent Sea.’ The show is scheduled for a Christmas Eve release and is set “in the year 2075 when depletion of natural resources has devastated Earth, this Netflix Series tells the story of an elite team sent on a special mission to an abandoned research base on the moon.”
“THE SILENT SEA – a sci-fi mystery thriller starring Doona Bae and Gong Yoo – arrives December 24, only on Netflix,” the streaming service said in a Tweet.

“I loved the spectacular ideas behind the story. I wanted to be involved in creating a sci-fi series that is uniquely Korean,” cast member Jung Woo-sung said, according to Netflix.
The series also stars Bae Doona, Gong Yoo, Lee Joon, Kim Sun-young, Lee Mu-saeng, and Lee Sung-wook. It is directed by Choi Hang-yong and is based on a short film he produced in 2014.
Park Eun-kyo who won Best Screenplay awards at the Korean Association of Film Critics Awards for ‘Mother’ is signed on as the writer for the show. He also won an award at the Blue Dragon Awards for ‘Crush And Blush.’
The full synopsis explains that the series follows “Song Jian (Bae Doona), an astrobiologist who has just set foot on the moon. She is a member of an elite team sent to the moon to save Earth from ruin with its depletion of natural resources. This lone figure on the moon, still an infinitely mysterious place that remains an uncharted territory for humans, piques our curiosity in this story of exploration and prepares the ground for the question, “What happened at an abandoned Korean research base?” While looking for clues to save Earth, team members become mired in mysterious predicaments and unforeseen events that occur in outer space. Their fates hanging by a thread will keep viewers on the edge of their seats.”
Look for ‘The Silent Sea’ to stream exclusively on Netflix on December 24th, 2021.
Help Cobra Profit With These Two New Destro Statues
How does COBRA stay afloat after repeated thwartings by the G.I. Joes? Destro, of course. The masked weapons manufacturer is possibly the only reason Cobra Commander is even the slightest bit threatening, but Destro’s loyalty is only to whoever has the most money.
To celebrate this great capitalist, Gentle Giant is making two new statues of the villain. Due out in February and April 2021, the Profit Director statue and 1/2 scale bust are just around the corner. The bust is priced at $175 and stands at 10″ tall, while the Profit Director statue is $49.99 and the same height.
Gentle Giant
A Diamond Select Toys release! Cobraaaaa! Villainous Scottish arms dealer Destro is now a Legend in 3D, the second entry in the G.I. Joe series! Measuring approximately 10 inches tall, this half-scale bust of the Cobra associate features his awe-inspiring medallion and a pedestal base styled after his famous wrist rockets.

Profits are up, and MARS CEO Destro has a whole new look! As owner of his own weapons manufacturing company, Destro is one of COBRA’s key members, and likes to look the part. His latest purchase is this sweet new ensemble for important business meetings and wild nights on the town!
Ever wonder why Destro wears the mask? First, check out this clip from the classic G.I. Joe series. Then compare it to that abomination that was 2009’s Rise of Cobra.
Holy crap. I forgot just how awful that first live-action G.I. Joe movie was. How do you screw up such a simple premise of outlandish good guys vs absurd bad guys? Ugh. It was all during the Bay-era of Hasbro films. You know, where everything had to be overly reliant on CGI with zero effort put into the plot.
Which Destro is your favorite? I’m partial to the Profit Director myself. Sure, the classic look is cool, but purple jumpsuits with leopard print lining are just too flashy to give up. Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.

HasLab Announces Remaining Stretch Goals for Spengler’s Proton Pack
Over the past weekend, I reported that HasLab’s Proton Pack crowdfunding campaign had passed its first stretch goal. Class One unlocked the hose that will connect the Spengler neutrona wand to the proton pack. Today Hasbro revealed what awaits us if the remaining three tiers are unlocked.
What’s up first? Mini-Pufts! Yes, these little jerks cause many issues in the movie, and you’ll get a batch of the creatures if Class Two is unlocked. The Minis will act much in the same way the already included slime will. They’ll get draped over the pack.
HasbroThe Mini-Pufts will have interchangeable parts, like the Plasma series figures. This tier will be unlocked after 11k backers chip in. We’re currently sitting at 9,718. These numbers are climbing faster than I thought they would. I’m impressed.
Class Three is the Spengler Special, and it’s the least spectacular unlockable in the bunch. This package includes a 16-page notebook that belonged to Egon, complete with “hand-written” notes. Accompanying this notebook are some stickers themed after the 1984 film and Afterlife.
If you’re unsure if you want to put down the $399.99 on this replica over the next 20 days, check out all the features the proton pack comes with and compare it to the other replica packs on the market right now:
- We’re making history with this movie-inspired prop replica, scanned directly from the Ghostbusters: Afterlife Proton Pack hero prop! (Yes, Sony Pictures Consumer Products let us play with the real thing!)
- Out-of-this-world tech features lights, sounds, AND a motor for active roleplay and re-creating iconic scenes!
- Two modes of play include lights and sounds from the 1984 classic film Ghostbusters and the upcoming 2021 Ghostbusters: Afterlife movie. Did we use supernatural sorcery? Nope, we just included a switch!
- Modular and lightweight, this scientific wonder is the closest you can get to strapping a real nuclear particle accelerator to your back (and much less dangerous)!
- Have we mentioned that this Proton Pack is compatible with the Ghostbusters Plasma Series Spengler’s Neutrona Wand (sold separately)? Because it is! The Proton Pack features a metal V-hook bracket that connects to the metal V-hook bracket on the bottom of the Neutrona Wand. Level up your cosplay game by stowing your wand on your pack when you’re not actively bustin’ ghosts!
- Scary good screen-accurate details include the booster, power cell injectors, bumper, shock mount, and more! Oh, and yeah, you can open the cyclotron and explore its inner workings for the very first time. Seriously, if you don’t fund this Ghostbusters HasLab project it may be a decision that haunts you forever!
- The Plasma Series Spengler’s Proton Pack was designed to be compatible with the ALICE system LC-1 Field Pack Frame and includes connection hardware.
Funimation Announces ‘The Vampire Dies in No Time’ English Dub
Funimation announced that the show ‘The Vampire Dies in No Time’ is getting an English dub. Japanese studio Madhouse has been producing the paranormal comedy anime since October 2021 with Hiroshi Kōjina serving as the director and Yukie Sugawara as the writer.
“What happens when a vampire hunter and a vampire become roommates?! We’re excited to announce that The Vampire Dies in No Time English dub is officially on its way to Funimation, and we’ve got your details on the cast, crew and when you can watch,” Funimation said on their website. “Episode 1 of The Vampire Dies in No Time English dub will arrive on Funimation, so get ready to settle in for some hilarious antics from Ronaldo, Draluc, John the Armadillo and more”!
They continue, “The series English voice cast includes Ian Sinclair (Dragon Ball Super, WONDER EGG PRIORITY) as Ronaldo and Frank Todaro (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, The Rising of the Shield Hero) as Draluc.”
The anime is based on a manga written by Itaru Bonnoki which has, thus far, generated eighteen volumes. It was released by the Akita Shoten publishing company in their Weekly Shōnen Champion.
You can watch the trailer below:
The official synopsis explains, “The famed vampire hunter Ronaldo has been received a job to infiltrate the mansion owned by Dralc, who claims he is the most invincible vampire. Ronaldo hears Dralc has kidnapped a kid. However, the rumors about Dralc are not reality: After Ronaldo finally confronts Dralc, Dralc turns into sand. This makes Ronaldo realize that Dralc is the weakest vampire and the kid was not really kidnapped by him. The kid came into his mansion for the purpose of making it his “personal playground”. Dralc’s mansion completely explodes thanks to Ronaldo’s recklessness, he decides to bring Dralc to his place. The story follows Ronaldo and Dralc daily life and the comic action alongside their allies.”
Amazon Prime Partners With BBC For Social Media Inspired Thriller ‘Chloe’
Amazon Studios is partnering with the BBC to stream their upcoming six-part miniseries, ‘Chloe,’ a psychological thriller that is inspired by social media and how influencers impact our daily lives. The show is set to be released on BBC One and will stream to Amazon’s Prime Video app. Erin Doherty, best known for playing Princess Ann in ‘The Crown,’ will headline the series.
The official show synopsis reveals “‘Chloe’ follows Becky Green (Doherty), who has been watching Chloe Fairbourne (Poppy Gilbert) via her perfect social media images for some time. Chloe’s charmed life, adoring husband, and circle of high-achieving friends are always just a click away, and Becky can’t resist peering into a world that contrasts so starkly with her own, as she cares for her mother, who has early-onset dementia, in their small seaside flat on the outskirts of Bristol, England. When Chloe suddenly dies, Becky assumes a new identity and infiltrates the enviable lives of Chloe’s closest friends to find out what happened to her.”
Series creator Alice Seabright (Sex Education) told Variety, “Becky is a complex, courageous heroine and there is no one better to play her than Erin. All these characters have been a dream to write, and it now feels like they’ve found their soulmates in our amazing cast. I can’t wait to start bringing the show to life with them, and with our wonderful crew. Thank you to the BBC and Amazon, to our brilliant writers, Kayleigh Llewellyn, Poppy Cogan, and Bolu Babalola, and to my partners in crime – the powerhouses Tally Garner and Morven Reid.”
The limited series is co-produced by the BBC, Amazon Studios, and Mam Tor Productions with Banijay Rights earning the rights to distribute it internationally to over 240 countries.
Amazon released a set of “first look” photos, highlighting the cast of the show:

Krampus Joins the Festive ‘Naughty Or Nice’ Action Figure Line
Last week we covered the first batch of figures announced for Fresh Monkey Fiction’s Christmas-inspired toyline. There were Santas, elves, and nutcrackers. However, a specific holiday villain was absent. But, never fear, Krampus is here!
Two Krampus figures to be exact! There’s a standard version and a deluxe version. The main difference between the two, aside from a color swap, is the number of accessories. Each Krampus will stand at just over 6″ tall, dressed in their Santa suits.
The deluxe Krampus is priced at $49.99, while the “regular” baddie is $36.99. Both are coming out during the fourth quarter of 2022, but they can be pre-ordered now exclusively from the Big Bad Toy Store.
- Stocking
- Naughty or nice list
- Lump of coal
- Present
The deluxe version will come with the following:
- Cloak
- Krampus bag
- Stocking
- Present
- 2 Lumps of coal
- Naughty or nice list
- Milk and cookies
For those unfamiliar with Krampus, he is the flip side of Santa. Where Father Christmas rewards the kind and virtuous children, Krampus punishes the wicked ones. Rather than leaving coal, Krampus beats the kids with a branch from a birch tree.
Fans of the fictional being can also pick up other Krampus-related merchandise from the website here. For those who are more fans of horror than the happy holidays, it’s the perfect excuse for us to put up demons and other evil beings around the tree each year.
Over the past decade, there have been many horror films based on the mythical creature. The best out of the bunch was Michael Dougherty’s Krampus. The man knows his holiday horror, for sure.
A few years ago, the film also got its own haunted house at Universal Orlando’s Halloween Horror Nights. The creature doesn’t show up in full until the end, but several of the other demons and misshapen Christmas creatures were all over the place. It was probably one of the best houses that year.
