‘I’m Quitting Heroing’ Gets An English Dub

0

‘I’m Quitting Heroing: Next Gig Is at the Demon Queen’s Castle’ was a 2017 three-volume light novel series that was released by Japanese publishing company Fujimi Shobo and illustrated by Hana Amano. The Tokyo-based Kadokawa Shoten developed a manga edition in 2018 that is illustrated by Nori Kazato. Its popularity led to a 2022 anime from EMT Squared animation studio directed by Yuu Nobuta and Hisashi Ishii with the abbreviated title ‘I’m Quitting Heroing.’ The show currently has only one season of twelve episodes and includes two OVAs.
As D-Rezzed previously reported, Sentai Filmworks had acquired the rights for a North American release of the anime to the HiDive streaming service, which recently announced an English voice cast.
According to their website, the cast will include:

  • Leo – Joe Daniels
  • Echidna – Olivia Swasey
  • Shutina – Luci Christian
  • Edvard – Andrew Love
  • Mernes – Patricia Duran
  • Lily – Christina Kelly
  • Eibrand – Scott Gibbs
  • King – Brandon Hearnsberger
  • Dianette – Brittany Karbowski

John Swasey will serve as the ADR director with Holly Segarra handling the ADR script.
You can watch the trailer for the anime below:

The character designs are done by Yuki Nakano with Kōhei Munemoto composing the music.
MyAnimeList describes the synopsis as follows:
“After saving the world, the strongest hero Leo became someone who is not wanted in the peaceful human world. He was too strong. Exiled, he seeks a job at the Demon King’s Army, which he had defeated and needs to be rebuilt. The Army had many problems: too much work, financial troubles, etc. Leo starts to make things better using his power. Leo encounters Echidna again and asks her why she invaded the human world. There was an unexpected story.”
The author of ‘I’m Quitting Heroing: Next Gig Is at the Demon Queen’s Castle’ goes by the pseudonym Quantum and originally released it online through the Kakuyomu website. The English version of the manga is available digitally through Kadokawa’s BookWalker website.

Two Beautiful ‘Mothra’ Vinyl Soundtrack Records Are On The Way

0

Two Mothra original motion picture soundtracks are on the way, and they offer a combination of fantastic cover art and gorgeous vinyl. First, we’ll look at a collaboration between the Big Bad Toy Store and Waxwork Records. Due out this July, the soundtrack for Mothra’s first film is coming to two-disc vinyl. Featuring cover art by Yuko Shimizu, the 180-gram Mothra records come pressed in crystal blue, matching the protective creature’s eyes. The film’s score was composed by Yuji Koseki.
This release is limited to only 500 copies. It can be pre-ordered now for $44.99.

The score by Yūjui Koseki features booming orchestral pieces that accompany Mothra in her mission to protect her people countered by waves of clairvoyant and electronically performed compositions including sci-fi sound effects. Sprinkled throughout the score, The Peanuts sing ballads to their beloved winged Kaiju, recognized by their iconic vocal doubling.

While Waxwork Records has the better cover art, Mondo steals the show regarding how the vinyl record looks. Rebirth of Mothra: Original Motion Picture Score LP is pressed with coloring that recreates the look of the Queen’s wings. It’s pretty beautiful. As someone who collects vinyl and displays them, this is a must-buy. The best part? The record is only $30!
This OST is limited to 2,000 copies and is available now. The 1996 film was composed by Toshiyuki Watanabe.

Ninja Turtles Packaged With Stranger Things Figures … Because

I’m not sure how to explain this. Playmates has been on this kick lately, pairing the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with various other properties like Power Rangers and Cobra Kai. Now the mix includes characters from Netflix’s hit show Stranger Things.
The name of the line is a mouthful according to the Target listings: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Stranger Things Upside Down Remix. The first wave teams Hopper up with Raphael and Eleven with Leonardo. Why? I dunno.
Each Target-exclusive figure has between 18 to 20 points of articulation, and the sets feature several accessories. Apparently, the sculptures for the turtles are “new” based on the classic Mirage Comics look of the original turtles. From what I can tell, these turtles are sporting new limbs since they look different from what we see in the upcoming TMNT X Street Fighter sets.

Playmates

Raphael is newly sculpted, based on the 1984 comic book, with dark green skin, red bandana, and signature twin sai, waffle throwing stars and 1980’s portable cassette tape player. Hopper wears jeans and his iconic Hawaiian shirt—based on Season 3—and comes with his handgun, baseball ball with nails, axe, and flashlight.

Playmates
Playmates

Leonardo is newly sculpted, based on the 1984 comic book, with dark green skin, red bandana, and signature Katana swords, waffle throwing star and 1980’s portable cassette tape player. Eleven wears her jeans with suspenders and dark blue/multicolor blouse from Season 3, and comes with her backpack, flashlight, and 1980’s handheld phone.

Playmates

The Half-Shell Heroes must team up with Eleven and her friends to try and stop TCRI’s next experiment before it succeeds! This is an exclusive, limited-edition collection of action figures and a must-have for all fans of the Ninja Turtles and the Stranger Things series! The 1980s setting for Stranger Things is the same time period that the Ninja Turtles made their debut in the Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman comic book! A Target exclusive!

OK, I can kind of see this storyline making sense given the weird experimental science stuff that happens in the worlds on TMNT and Stranger Things. TCRI would probably collaborate with the Russians and the US to see how the mutagen works on creatures from the Upside Down.
What do you think of this unlikely mashup of properties? Let us know in the comments section below.

Two New Beast Kingdom ‘The Rise Of Gru’ Dioramas Show Off Minion Madness

It’s not surprising that the latest movie in the Despicable Me / Minions franchise blew away a movie made by Pixar under Disney’s rule. The Minions may make grown-ups groan, but kids love it, and that’s been something Pixar has been unable to do for a while. Illumination knows the audience, that’s for sure. This may be why we don’t see many Minions or Gru collectibles on the market. Well, Beast Kingdom is looking to add some.
The Diorama Stage line of collectibles is getting two new entries. Based on the newly released Minions: The Riser of Gru animated film, the dioramas show off the weird and wild exploits of the mischievous little yellow bean thingies known as Minions. One diorama shows the Minions and Gru riding on a rocket bike. The other involves the Minions practicing Kung-Fu on a dummy, sans Gru.
Both dioramas are expected to arrive in February 2023. Kung-Fu is priced at $39.99, while the rocket bike is going for $42.99. These collectibles are about 6″ tall and licensed from Universal.

Beast Kingdom

The Rocket Bike diorama sees the Minions trio as well as Gru racing down the street on the chopper-style motorbike. Wind in Grus face and Minions hanging for dear life, the detailed set looks as though it is about to take off!

In the Kung Fu scene, the three Minions are facing the deadliest opponent yet as they begin their training! Wondering why the punching dummy isn’t fighting back, the Minions still pull out all their punches for a full-on attack!!

Where does the Minions franchise go from here? We know Gru’s arc now. Will we see teenage Gru next? How about elderly Gru? What do you think of the whole Minions thing? Harmless fun or mind-numbing children’s entertainment? Let us know in the comments section below.

Activision Blizzard Employees Plan Walkout, UK Watchdog Investigates Microsoft Deal

There is no winning if you’re Activision Blizzard. Every week, a new scandal, lawsuit, walkout, accusation, or classic franchise is turned into a freemium game. This week served up a double whammy as employees planned a walkout and the acquisition deal with Microsoft came under investigation.
Employees at the Act-Blizz are not happy, as is typical since the late 2010s. However, this time the outrage isn’t regarding crunch, harassment, or negligent leadership within the company. According to tweets found by GameSpot, the employees of Activision Blizzard King (King being a subsidiary of AB) are planning a walkout due to the Supreme Court’s ruling on Roe V. Wade. In the thread on Twitter, @ABetterABK stated the following:

In light of the recent attacks on the civil liberties of our employees, the employee-led Committee Against Sex and Gender Discrimination has scheduled a walk out action on July 21st, 2022. We are calling for protection of several communities of marginalized workers. Employees are actively facing state legislation that is putting women, LGBTQ+ employees, and their families at risk, with other vulnerable groups on the horizon.

The 17-tweet-long thread concluded with a link to a GoFundMe page (which we will not link to) and made a few additional demands:

Finally, while “retaliation” is prohibited on paper, the company has been actively engaged in union busting for a year now, and employees have been harassed and intimidated for organizing. As such, our walk out action also demands that the company begin and maintain dialogue with the members of the Committee Against Sex and Gender Discrimination, and legally commit to neutrality in our workers’ attempts to organize.

Activision Blizzard currently offers employees a reimbursement amount of $4k for those who need to take care of a medical matter that is not offered within the employee’s state of residence. What if anything the walkout will change is unknown. AB has yet to make a statement regarding the walkout.
Moving away from employee frustrations, we’ll now look at possible issues with Microsoft acquiring the company that Warcraft built. According to PC Mag, the $68.7 billion deal to gobble up the developer/publisher has come under the watchful eye of a United Kingdom watchdog group called the UK Competition and Markets Authority.
The inquiry into Microsoft’s potential purchase was set into motion on July 6th. The CMA’s case is based on the following train of thought:

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is considering whether it is or may be the case that this transaction, if carried into effect, will result in the creation of a relevant merger situation under the merger provisions of the Enterprise Act 2002 and, if so, whether the creation of that situation may be expected to result in a substantial lessening of competition within any market or markets in the United Kingdom for goods or services.

So, it looks like a question of whether the purchase could lead to an anti-trust issue. That is understandable, considering how many properties, games, etc., are under Activision Blizzard’s belt. But would this make Microsoft have a sort of stranglehold on games publishing?
Let us know your thoughts about both situations in the comments section below.

A 3′ Tall Lady Dimitrescu Statue? Yes, Please. I’ll Take 10.

Out of all the things Resident Evil: The Village could be memorable for, it was a curvy lady who stood over 9′ tall who stole the show. The game is excellent, with many unforgettable characters, but everyone was as moist as a snack cake for Lady Dimitrescu. I don’t blame anyone. She’s hot, and PureArts is giving us a scaled-down replica of the evil vixen to take home.
This statue of Lady D stands at 3′ tall and features an ungodly amount of detail. Her dress is fully tailored and weathered. She has interchangeable hands, showing off her claws or classy cigarette holder. The hat is removable, showing off synthetic pre-styled hair.
Big mommy milker lady makes my wallet hurt, though. This 3′ version of the 9′-6″ tall vampire is going to cost you $1,499. Oof. You know what? Screw it! I’m all in! Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! The Lady of Resident Evil: Village will ship out during the third quarter of 2023. The statues are limited to a run of only 666 pieces. Click here to pre-order your meme goddess.

Make The Monotony of Monopoly More Palatable With This Stranger Things Version

0

A new version of Monopoly comes with a new season of Netflix’s Strange Things. The hit series’ fourth season has been touted as a return to form for the Duffer brothers and cast, but does that translate into an exciting version of the classic real estate board game?
Entertainment Earth is currently taking pre-orders for Stranger Things 4 Monopoly. The set, like any other bearing the name, contains small metal player pieces, paper money, plastic cassettes (instead of houses), and card stock property tokens. The twist with this game is that player must spin a dial which indicates where a portal opens up on the board. Players must then reach that spot to close it while playing by the standard rules of Monopoly. I can see that getting real aggravating, really quick.
ST4: Monopoly will set you back $27.99, and the game will ship out sometime this month.

It’s 1986 and a dark force known as Vecna is opening Gates to the Upside Down in Hawkins and beyond! Inspired by Season 4 of the Netflix series Stranger Things, the Monopoly: Stranger Things Edition board game is a must for fans. Spin the hand on Vecna’s ominous grandfather clock to find out where the Gates are, then race to close them. Players earn money along the way by charging other players rent, and the last player with money when all other players have gone bankrupt wins. But watch out! The game also ends if Vecna opens enough Gates so that every location is in the Upside Down.

The Duffer Brothers’ Strange Things series is no stranger to the board game market or Monopoly. How often can you refresh a game about mortgages, rent, and land ownership before even a Netflix show’s overlay gets boring? I always thought Monopoly was the game you pulled out when you really wanted your house guests to leave.
What do you think of this latest version of the Stranger Things-themed game from Hasbro? How many different versions of Monopoly do you own? Me? I’ve got the Ghostbusters ’84 version and a Star Wars one from the late ’90s. Let us know in the comments section below.
