You Can Now Play A Video Game About Getting Your Anger Out Against the Mask-Less

0

Looking for ways to get your anger against the world out of your system through a video game? This one might be just the game for you. A gaming company has recently released a satirical beat ’em up 2D game with classic arcade influences and a modern setting based in Brazil. The classic arcade style game officially released on August 10th, 2022.

The game is called Pulling No Punches. It was made by a company called Braindead Broccoli Games and this is their debut game. The game was successfully crowdfunded in May 2021 on the Brazilian crowdfunding website Catarse. They raised £8,194 (which is around $9,816). According to the crowdfunding page, it is their goal to have this game be made available on as many platforms as possible, including mobile. But for now, it is only available to play on Windows, SteamOS and Linux. You can play a free Demo that was released in 2020 or pay $9.99 for the full version just released this year,

The summary of the story for the game is described as:
The game follows the fictional story of a global pandemic that engulfed the world and is being ignored by fanatics who do not believe that the disease is real. It is up to the main characters, 4 common citizens adequately protected with gloves and masks, to deal with these fanatics and solve the situation with the force of their own fists.

See trailer here. The trailer is age restricted and can only be played directly on Youtube.

Braindead Broccoli is a Brazilian independent gaming studio focused on politics-themed games in a dark comedy style. The company, inspired by the classic arcade games, underground comics, adult animation and real life events, develops satirical content with a touch of surrealism, hysterical realism and extreme violence.

The Sectaurs Are Resurrected By The Nacelle Company

0

The Nacelle Company has finally opened up pre-orders for the resurrected Sectaurs toys! The first two figures up for grabs are Daragon and Stelara. Sectaurs was a toy line released in 1985 and created by Coleco. The figures first came out when I was a kid, and I remember them only being on the toy shelves very briefly.

Even though the toy line came out in the early 1980s, the characters featured more articulation than most action figures of the time. While the articulation wasn’t on the same level as Marvel Legends, it was pretty good and far better than what Masters of the Universe was offering at the time. From what I can tell, The Nacelle Company’s figures appear to use the same design as the originals. No over-engineering here. Each figure is 6″ to 7″ tall, features 13 points of articulation, and comes on a blister card.  Stelara and Dargon are $39.99 each and are expected to ship in the Spring of 2023. Click here to pre-order yours!

The film is set to make its worldwide debut on Netflix, where fans of the genre will get to see the creature on December 1, 2022.

The film, releasing exclusively on Netflix, is directed by internationally acclaimed Roar Uthaug (Tomb Raider, The Wave) and stars Ine Marie Wilmann in the lead role as well as Kim Falck, Mads Sjøgård Pettersen and Gard Eidsvold,” the streaming service said on their website.

The director explained in an interview, “Troll is an idea that has been developing in the back of my mind for over 20 years. To finally be able to realize it with the enthusiastic and ambitious people at Netflix and Motion Blur is truly a dream come true. I can’t wait to unleash this Norwegian monster on the world.”

Netflix Vice President of International Original Film David Kosse said, “We are incredibly proud to bring a Norwegian project of this scale to the world together with Roar Uthaug and Motion Blur. Roar is an extremely skilled filmmaker and I’m excited for him to go back to his Norwegian roots with this ambitious, fun film.”

Netflix described the synopsis as follows,

Fantasy Light Novel Series ‘Tearmoon Empire’ Is Getting An Anime Adaption

0

‘Tearmoon Empire’ is a fantasy light novel series written by author Nozomu Mochitsuki with illustrations from Gilse. It has been in publication since 2019 through J-Novel Club. The Japanese animation studio Silver Link has announced that they are adapting the series for an anime, releasing a promo image and a teaser trailer.

“Yūshi Ibe (The Greatest Demon Lord is Reborn as a Typical Nobody assistant director) is directing the anime at SILVER LINK. Deko Akao (Komi Can’t Communicate, The Case Study of Vanitas) is in charge of the series scripts. Mai Otsuka (The Demon Girl Next Door, Non Non Biyori) is designing the characters,” Anime News Network reports.

You can watch the teaser below:

The ‘Tearmoon Empire’ wiki describes the synopsis as follows,

“Surrounded by the hate-filled gazes of her people, the selfish princess of the fallen Tearmoon Empire, Mia, takes one last look at the bleeding sun before the guillotine blade falls… Only to wake back up as a twelve-year-old! With time rewound and a second chance at life dropped into her lap, she sets out to right the countless wrongs that plague the ailing Empire. Corrupt governance? Check. Border troubles? Check. Natural calamities and economic strife? Check. My, seems like a lot of work. Hard work and Mia don’t mix, so she seeks out the aid of others, starting with her loyal maid, Anne, and the brilliant minister, Ludwig. Together, they strive day and night to restore the Empire. Little by little, their tireless efforts begin to change the course of history, pushing the whole of the continent toward a new future. And why did the selfish princess have a change of heart, you ask? Simple—she didn’t. She’s just terrified of the guillotine. They hurt like hell, and Mia hates pain more than work.”

TO Books began to publish a manga version of the stories illustrated by Mizu Morino starting in 2019 for their Comic Corona magazine.

Elon Musk Dunks on Amazon’s Lord of the Rings, Says “Tolkien is Turning in His Grave”

0

Elon Musk never misses an opportunity to troll on Twitter, and the richest man in the world apparently doesn’t think much of Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

“Tolkien is turning in his grave,” Musk tweeted yesterday. Ouch.

He went on to criticize its treatment of male characters, saying the show makes all of the men “a coward, a jerk or both.” And says that “Only Galadriel is brave, smart and nice.”

Ouch. Is this because rival Jeff Bezos fronted the money for it, or did he actually just hate it?

The Sandman creator Neil Gaiman clapped back at Musk’s tweet, saying that Musk “doesn’t come to [him] for advice on how to fail to buy Twitter, and [Gaiman] doesn’t go to him for film, TV or literature criticism.”

The Rings of Power, Amazon’s billion-dollar Tolkien inspired fanfic… er… opus... has come under fire from many longtime fans of J.R.R. Tolkien. The media is running with the narrative that it’s toxic white dudes that hate the addition of non-white actors in the show. Tolkien purists are unhappy with the series for a variety of reasons, chief being that the series is barely based on Tolkien’s work, looks cheap despite its big budget and that characters like Galadriel are too different from their book counterparts.

Technically speaking, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is neither based directly on a work of Tolkien, nor is it a canonical prequel to the Peter Jackson films, despite sharing a similar visual style. This is due to complicated legal rights issues. Jackson himself was set to receive a draft of the script for review, but was “ghosted” likely because of the potential legal entanglement.

The Rings of Power has become the latest piece of pop culture to be fought over in “the culture wars.” Amazon has frozen user reviews on the series claiming it was being review bombed. While this might be true to a certain degree, it’s also been reported that Amazon simply cannot let this series fail as the future of Amazon Prime Video depends on it.

Amazon sent out its own press release claiming that The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power drew in over 25 million viewers on its first day, although there’s currently no independent verification.

As of the writing of this article, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power currently sites at 84% critical score and 39% audience score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.

While most critical reviews have been positive, some have been absolutely scathing. YouTube reviewer Grace Randolph echoed Elon Musk’s assessment of Galadriel, claiming she was both a “Mary Sue” and a “Karen.”

Superman’s Resurrection Is Captured By This MAFEX Figure

Thirty years ago, the comic book industry needed a readership surge. So began The Death of Superman storyline. The last son of Krypton gave his life to stop the seemingly unstoppable Doomsday. The gimmick worked. Readership went up, and comic book shops were selling multiple versions of the same comic book thanks to the Reign of the Supermen storyline. However, you can’t have DC with the one and only Superman. Eventually, Kal-El had to be brought back in September 1993.

Previews World has announced an action figure commemorating Superman’s return. Donning the black suit and Super-Mullet, Kal-El is ready to tear through the new threats that appeared during his long recovery. However, at this point in the story, Supes isn’t 100% yet and needs some help from Steel to fly and defend himself. Medicom Toy kept this detail in mind and provided interchangeable legs for Kal-El, rocket effects included!

The figure is 6.25″ tall and comes with interchangeable hands and an alternate “angry” portrait. The figure should be in stores now, but if your local shop doesn’t have it, Superman can be ordered directly from Previews for $124.99.

From Medicom Toy. Superman returns from death in the Death and Return of Superman story from DC Comics! This new MAFEX Superman features his black and silver Kryptonian suit, two portraits (complete with super-mullet), swap out flight boots with effects, multiple interchangeable hands, and an articulated figure stand. Superman stands at 6 1/4″ tall.

The Reign of the Supermen officially ended with The Adventures of Superman issue #505 in October 1993. It was one heck of a ride that lasted almost a year. Personally, I preferred the Knightfall story, but that’s because I’m a Batman fan. However, the cultural impact Superman’s “death” had on pop culture at the time cannot be denied. It even got its own SNL skit:

What did you think of the Death of Superman fiasco? Let us know below.

Drokk! Mean Machine Angel’s Coming Soon From PX Previews!

Judge Dredd’s greatest villains are finally getting the action figures they deserve, thanks to Hiya Toys. We’ve seen the Dark Judges, Judge Caligula, and now the scourge of the Cursed Earth: Mean Machine Angel. A product of the harsh environment of the irradiated Earth and the savage people who inhabit it, Mean Machine is part human, part machine, and various levels of danger. A dial on his forehead controls those levels; you never want to see it get to 4.

This newest edition to the Hiya Toys line of 2000 AD figures is due in January and priced at $19.99. He can be pre-ordered now through the Big Bad Toy Store. Mean Machine stands 4″ tall and comes with a Cursed Earth-inspired base. Sadly, he does not come with alternate parts for his mechanical right arm.

Unlike Marvel and DC comics, 2000 AD keeps a timeline that is always progressing without many unnecessary rewrites. So, Mean Machine has seen a number of life changes over his time in the comics. But, for better or worse, he had one hell of a run in the comic, with his ultimate fate being unknown.

If there’s one thing, and one thing only, that the 1995 Judge Dredd movie got right, it was Mean Machine. He may have had only a few minutes of screen time, but he was almost 100% like his 2000 AD original. So maybe if the Pete Travis version of Dredd gets a sequel, we’ll see Mean Machine and more of the Cursed Earth.

Now that several of the most commonly known MegaCity baddies are out of the way, who do you think will be next for toy form? The Judge Child? Rico? What do you think of Hiya Toys Judge Dredd action figures so far? Let us know in the comments section below.

Simu Liu Reportedly Dealing with Mental Health ‘Problems’, Seeking Treatment

The MCU’s Shang-Chi star Simu Liu is undergoing therapy for ‘problems’ likely related to his mental health. This is coming directly from the actor himself via a tweet.

The actor said “About to start regular sessions with a therapist for the first time and quite honestly pretty incredible that I get to force someone to listen to my problems once a week and occasionally provide input??”

While it’s likely nothing as serious as, say, a typical day in the life of Ezra Miller, the pressure of being thrust into the MCU limelight might be getting to Liu.

The actor elaborated on his mental health even further on a recent Instagram post, saying…

Exactly one year ago, this little movie came out and completely changed my life. It’s been nothing short of the absolute best ride… but after having some time to reflect I know that this life also comes at a massive cost.

I was suddenly catapulted into a stratosphere I had no business being in, and was woefully unprepared to deal with the mental ramifications of a life lived in public. I felt like I was riding the hell out of the learning curve, crushing all my talk show appearances and interviews, but I was also neglecting to spend the necessary time to check in with myself and prioritize my mental health.

I’ve shot four movies since, currently shooting my fifth, and also published a memoir. I’ve barely had time to breathe because I’ve been so afraid of taking my foot off the gas. I was SO obsessed with the idea of taking up space and representing for my community that I worked nearly myself to exhaustion. And while I am SO proud of my achievements and my work ethic, I know that moving forward something has to change.

So today on the anniversary of the release of Shang-Chi I’m especially excited because I’m in therapy and prioritizing my health. I’m healing and well on my way to becoming something more than a superhero; I’m on my way to becoming a good and decent man.

(But also stay tuned cause I do love doing this and will continue for many many years to come)

Simu Liu is no stranger to online controversy and Internet slap fights.

Simu Liu is not afraid to get into it with the internet, which could be exacerbating his mental health issues and exhaustion.

Recently, Liu was slammed by Twitter users for making light of the cancellation of the Batgirl movie.

Liu has reportedly received backlash for being “too ugly” to be cast in the upcoming Barbie movie starring Margot Robbie.

Liu also got backlash from comic book fans for refusing to sign old issues of the Shang-Chi Marvel comic book, Master of Kung Fu, deeming them racist.

Before that, Liu’s old reddit account had been linked to a post seemingly comparing gay people to pedophiles.

And before that, Liu went on the offensive against Disney CEO Bob Chapek for not having more faith in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Oh, and Liu seemingly got Shang-Chi banned in China by calling out the country’s government.

So if the actor is having some mental health issues because of all of that stress and drama, it’s somewhat understandable. And his therapist will have no shortage of things to talk about.

‘Batman: The Animated Series’ Celebrates Its 30th Anniversary

I remember waking up on the morning of September 5, 1992. My parents changed the dial to a local station and the Fox Kids logo appeared on the screen. I heard the animated emcee say something like, “Up next, the world premiere of Batman.” Suddenly, the iconic theme song composed by Danny Elfman came on with images of a bank robbery gone wrong. Soon, I saw HIM for the first time (at least that I remember.) He was a shadow, a mysterious figure, and a Dark Knight. This was the Batman. I sat up straight and did not utter a word as the title card for the episode appeared, “On Leather Wings.”

‘Batman: The Animated Series’ would go on for four seasons, three films (including one theatrical), a revamp, and several spin-offs, creating what fans adoringly call the DC Animated Universe. It was the first to feature Kevin Conroy voicing Bruce Wayne and Mark Hamill voicing his arch-enemy the Joker. It was helmed by several creative writers and producers such as Bruce Timm, Alan Burnett, Eric Radomski, and, of course, Paul Dini, the co-creator of Harley Quinn. This femme fatale would become a mainstay in DC Comics thanks, in part, to voice actress Arleen Sorkin.

In 2022, fans all around the world are celebrating the 30th anniversary of the legendary series. This Saturday morning cartoon haunted my weekends for the next decade and beyond. It was the first time I had ever been exposed to anything from the comic book world. Its serious take on the character created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger is something I would not fully appreciate until I was older, but my love for the Batman mythos opened up the world of the DC Universe and later Marvel Comics when I started watching the equally iconic ‘Spider-Man: The Animated Series.’

Its success is unparalleled and while many later Batman cartoons (sometimes even feature films) have tried to duplicate its influence, it is fair to say that none, no matter how well-made, have come close to enduring itself to fans’ hearts like ‘Batman: The Animated Series.’ I, for one, am thrilled to have been able to enjoy it for how it inspired my childhood. Hopefully, with home video releases and streaming, more fans will be able to enjoy this truly masterful take on the Batman.
