These Ori And The Blind Forest Statues Are Very Touching

0

Earlier, we covered First4Figures batch of Mega Man X statues and wondered how many variations one company can make for one character. Apparently, the more, the better. If you’re a fan of Ori and the Blind Forest, then you’re lucky because First4Figures will produce four different PVC/resin statues based on the game’s iconic cover art.

These recreations of Moon Studios’ Ori and Naru capture the beauty and heart of the game pretty well, and the added glowing effect really makes me want to drop a couple of hundred dollars. Let’s break down what all is on offer:

Ori and Naru Exclusive Edition [Day Variation] $124.99

Ori and Naru Definitive Edition [Day Variation] $319.99

Ori and Naru Exclusive Edition [Night Variation] $124.99

Rip And Tear At Home With These ‘DOOM’ Domestic Goods

0

Rip and tear your way through the kitchen with this DOOM Slayer apron. First, get your domestic duties out of the way while wearing the closest thing you can get to the praetor suit for only $20. Then, get that pulled pork plated like a real man. A real angry man!

Do you want your house to smell like Hell? No, not from the stink of ten cats and failed dreams. If you’ve always wanted to know what Immora smelled like, this $18 candle will give you the scents of “woodland moss wrapped in aromatic herbs, infused with incense and elements of agarwood.” Are you willing to drop $18 to find out?

DOOM isn’t the only game that’s getting in on the domestic duties. Fallout, too, wants to invade your home. First up is a Nuka Cola Christmas stocking. OK, they call it a “Holiday Stocking,” but come on. Who’s hanging up a stocking these days to celebrate Yule? I was surprised to see that this was an entirely embroidered item. Considering the lame things we’ve seen come out in the past centering around Fallout, to see that this wasn’t just a screen print is nice. $20 nice? Maybe not, but it’s better than the Nuka Cola rum disaster.

Of course, Bethesda also wants you to enjoy the smells of the Vaults with the Fallout Special Issue Scented Candle. What does Vault life smell like? Probably metal and stale farts? Nope. It’s vanilla and bourbon. I … what? That’s the last thing I think of when it comes to living below ground after a nuclear apocalypse. Just one of these candles is 6oz tins is $18. I guess the allure is that it’s somewhat Vault-Tec-themed. Sigh.

Bethesda

Making food – like slaying demons – can get messy. So be like the DOOM Slayer and put on some armor. The DOOM Slayer Apron lets you give the illusion of wearing the Slayer’s classic green and gray praetor suit. It’s a dash of rip-and-tear flair to season your time in the kitchen, and a great look to sport when hosting barbeque parties.

Bethesda

Titans. Towering spires. Glowing embers rising from the smoke. In the ancient city of Immora, the stage is set for the final battle between the Slayer and the Dark Lord. Is this what ultimate victory smells like? Light the DOOM Incense of Immora Scented Candle and immerse yourself in the nuanced notes of woodland moss, incense and black oud.

Bethesda

Fill your holidays with all the cheer-cheer-cheeriest gifts you can stuff inside the Fallout Nuka-Cola Holiday Stocking! It’s decorated with classic holiday icons, snowflakes and holly mixed in with classic Fallout icons, Nuka-Cola bottles and bottle caps. At 17 inches long and 10.5 inches wide.

Bethesda

Surround yourself with the familiar scent of home and all the warm, comforting feelings that come with it. The Fallout Special Issue Scented Candle offers a delicious blend of warm vanilla, sweet bourbon, and nuanced tonka beans. It’s the sort of smell that will put you in the mood to just settle down and enjoy the moment. It’s an invitation to experience feelings of safety, security, and state-of-the-art disaster preparedness.

Kanye West To Purchase Social Media App Parler

Rapper and former reality star Kanye West, now known as Ye, has made headway into joining the social media landscape even further after it was announced that he would be purchasing the Parler app. Parlement Technologies, the parent company behind the outlet, announced to their users that the award-winning artist had agreed to buy the company, giving him ownership.

Parler CEO George Farmer told Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo, “Parler needs Ye in many ways, because Parler needs this brand to expand.”

“And I think Ye is very interested in expanding his social media presence,” he added.

Farmer added that Ye’s recent suspension on other social networks over controversial statements deemed anti-Semitic may have been the motivation for him to seek out an alternative means of communicating.

When asked about West’s comments, Farmer replied, “Specific comments about his personal opinions, I obviously can’t comment because I’m not him. But I would like to say that he’s now in a place where he’s fallen victim to the cancelation narrative. Whether or not what he said offended some people, of course, is up for conversation – but in other words, the only cure for the wrong ideas is more ideas. It’s more speech, not less speech.”

“Free speech is something that we all must strive towards. (West is) very excited about this,” he noted.

“The deal came together in short order, and we are very excited about the potential that he can bring to the platform in terms of the growth profile of the marketing operation of this platform, which he’s going to bring to it.” Farmer said. “It’s a very good, very fair deal for both sides, and I think that this is a very optimal strategy to help grow Parler’s presence in the future.”

The terms of the deal are unknown at this time, but Farmer said he hopes that the deal will be finalized in Q4 of 2022.

In a statement to users, Farmer assured them that “Parler will remain a place where everyone can think, listen, and speak freely. We will continue the fight against censorship, cancel culture, and authoritarianism.”

‘Claydream’ The Story Of Will Vinton’s Claymation Is Coming Soon!

0

Remember Claymation? All those Will Vinton creations from the 1980s and ’90s? Vinton’s clay creations were heavily ingrained in pop culture, from the California Raisins to The PJs. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, he and his puppets disappeared. So what caused the downfall of a studio that produced so many memorable shorts, shows, and movies? Claydream promises to answer that questions.

The Glamour & The Squalor writer/director Marq Evans brings together Bill Plympton and the artists of Will Vinton’s studio to discuss the career of the late stop-motion magician. Did commercial success lead to the downfall? The trailer points to that possibility. Claydream has been playing at various festivals and cinemas, but this trailer makes me think it will soon be available via VOD. Altitude Films uploaded the trailer earlier this month but failed to list a release date. So all we know right now is that Claydream is “coming soon.”

A modern-day Walt Disney, Will Vinton picked up a ball of clay and saw a world of potential. Known as the “Father of Claymation,” Vinton revolutionised the animation business during the 80s and 90s. But after 30 years of being the unheralded king of clay, Will Vinton’s carefully sculpted American dream came crumbling down.

A lot of Vinton’s works can be found on YouTube, at least in part. The Claymation Christmas, East, and Halloween specials are available on a DVD, but the quality isn’t the best. Why no Blu-rays? Maybe there’s a rights issue that’s covered in the documentary. Will Vinton’s amazing but somewhat depressing The Adventures of Mark Twain can be streamed on Prime Video. The animated segments from Michael Jackson’s Moonwalker are pretty easy to find without sitting through the rather dull documentary segments.

Thankfully, my favorite Will Vinton special was the Claymation Comedy of Horrors is online:

Want an Origins Mekaneck? You Have To Buy The Road Ripper!

Last week we covered that the He-Man Origins line was moving into Snake Men territory, but you may have noticed that a particular defender of Grayskull had yet to be released. Well, we now know where Mekaneck has been. He was tearing around Eternia on the Road Ripper. So yeah, the only way to round out the core Masters of the Universe collection of heroes is to buy a $30+ vehicle. We spotted Mekaneck and the Road Ripper at the Big Bad Toy Store. The combo is priced at $34.99 and is due by the second quarter of 2023.

The set will include Mekaneck, the Road Ripper, interchangeable hoods for the ripper, Mekaneck’s club, and a neckpiece. Unfortunately, Mekaneck’s extending neck feature doesn’t work the same way as the original figure did. Rather than rotating his torso, you only need to pop his head off and insert the elongated neckpiece. Sadly, he only comes with one trunk, so you can’t have a 2′ tall Mekaneck. I’m pretty sure this character wasn’t all that popular in the original line, so that’s why he’s being bundled with something we all want, the Road Ripper.

Like Mekaneck, the play feature we all remember is gone from the vehicle. There’s no ripcord with this Road Ripper. Kind of unfortunate because I have fond memories of having the Road Ripper tear down the sidewalk as a kid and building ramps out of shoe boxes for it to jump.

Mekaneck only appeared in three episodes of the Filmation show, and in the 200X series, he was shown to be a reasonably competent fighter, but he still came off as more of a novelty than a serious core component to He-Man’s crew. However, at least the Origins line now feels complete.

ThunderCats Ultimates Wave 7 Finally gives us Snarf!

Lion-O? Borning. Panthro? Dull. Snarf? That’s where the action’s at, yo! Finally, seven waves into Super7’s ThunderCats Ultimates action figure line, and we get Snarf. Of course, he would have to come this late in the series because the other three figures in the wave aren’t exactly household names.

At least they gave Snarf his due rather than packing him in as another figure’s accessory. This Snarf comes with three interchangeable heads, three pairs of interchangeable hands, the Claw Shield, the Sword of Omens, candy fruit, and a tail base for more exciting poses. What types of poses? That’s up to you, weirdo!

Willa, Mongor, and Ratar-O will join Snarf. Each figure is priced at $55. These four are estimated to ship out by the Fall of 2023. Pre-orders for Wave 7 are open until November 11th, 2022.

Super7

Super7

Super7’s latest wave of 7” scale ThunderCats ULTIMATES! is nothing to snarf at! Including Mongor, Ratar-O, Willa, and – yes, finally! – Snarf, all with interchangeable heads & hands and multiple accessories, these made-to-order figures belong in any quality ThunderCats collection!

I quite literally have no idea who these other characters are. Maybe it’s because I haven’t watched the show in over three decades or because they were unmemorable? I gotta say, Mongor and Ratar-O look awesome and really capture the Rankin Bass cartoon design well. I believe Willa is the first human character to show up in this line, which may signal the ThunderCats Ultimates wrapping up. Hardcore collectors will, no doubt, pick up every single figure, but each subsequent wave will need a familiar name to bring in the normies. Who’s left that they can tap after Snarf? More variations of Lion-O? A repaint of Cheetara? Kid Lion-O and the ThunderCats as they appeared at the beginning of the pilot episode?

Second Trailer For Trigun Stampede Reveals More Animation Designs and Characters

0

Studio Orange and TOHO animation have released the second trailer for the new Trigun series, giving us a bit of a better idea on what the animation will be like, as well as more of the characters we will be seeing (and not seeing) in the series set to air next year.

See trailer here. Turn on Closed Captions to see English subs:

Noticeably absent is the character Milly Thompson, who seems to have been replaced by a character named… Roberto De Niro? He doesn’t seem to have been a character from any of the three Trigun manga series nor the original anime, so we will just have to wait and see if Milly Thompson shows up at any point in Trigun Stampede.

Cast members for the Japanese cast includes:

Vash the Stampede: Yoshitsugu Matsuoka
Meryl Stryfe: Sakura Ando
Nicholas D. Wolfwood: Yoshimasa Hosoya
Roberto De Niro: Kenji Matsuda
Knives Millions: Junya Ikeda
Young Vash: Tomoyo Kurosawa
Young Knives: Yumiri Hanamori
Rem Saverem: Maaya Sakamoto

A new visual was also released:

Here is the first trailer released a few months ago:

With the anime being directed by Kenji Muto, the series will air in January 2023 on TV Tokyo, as well as streaming on Crunchyroll in the same month worldwide, including in areas such as the Philippines, Singapore, India, Pakistan, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. Trigun Stampede will not being streaming in Asia.

TOHO describes the show as a popular gun-action manga series created by Yasuhiro Nightow. It follows the fated journey of Vash the Stampede, a legendary gunman and a pacifist with a bounty on his head.

What do you think of the new Trigun anime so far? Has it peaked your interest or are you going to hold excitement until you see it?

Mechagodzilla Is Now A $395 MechaShogun Toy!

Have you been looking for something for your Shogun Godzilla to battle with? Then get ready for Super7’s 20″ tall Toho Super Shogun Mechagodzilla! This homage to Mattel’s 1970s line of oversized robots and monsters is $395 and features six firing finger rockets! Mechagodzilla also has five points of articulation and super high-tech rollerskates. OK, they’re not high-tech; they’re just wheels on his feet. To top it off, Super7 includes a sticker sheet that further accentuates the toy’s retro roots. Shogun Mechagodzilla is expected to be out by the Summer of 2023.

OK, now that the sticker shock has worn off, I’m wondering … why isn’t he painted silver? The majority of the body is off-white and gray at the joints. Mechagodzilla was silver in his first and second appearances. Since these images say the final product may vary, I hope we see a more authentic paint job on the final $395 toy. Hell, for that price, Mechagodzilla should be chrome!

Standing 20” tall, Super7’s Super Shoguns are the next evolution of the Jumbo-scale toys popular in the 1970s and 80s. Here to do battle with your vintage Godzilla, this Toho Super Shogun Mechagodzilla features three missile-firing fingers on each hand (six total!) with the iconic original red missiles, movable arms, legs, hands and head, along with wheels on the feet for that perfect vintage touch. Which monster of mayhem will win the battle? Only you (and Mechagodzilla) can decide!

If you were curious, some parts of the original Mechagodzilla suit still survive today. When the Mechagodzilla 2 suit was created, parts from the original were reused. That suit appears from time to time at various Toho events and exhibits in Japan. Check out the Reddit post below for some images of the metallic monster.

Mechagodzilla 2 is the oldest still intact Godzilla suit! And he still looks awesome!
