Bruce Lee Returns In Action Anime ‘House Of Lee’

‘Enter The Dragon’ star Bruce Lee may have tragically passed away in 1973 at the age of 33, but his wife Linda and daughter Shannon Lee are keeping his legacy alive. The iconic Martial Arts star is returning thanks to a partnership between Bruce Lee Entertainment and Emily Yang’s content platform Shibuya to create the action anime ‘House of Lee.’

Deadline reports, “House of Lee, the first ever Bruce Lee anime project, will premiere in 2024. In celebration of Enter the Dragon‘s 50th anniversary, special 4K UHD screenings of the movie will be held in over 650 theaters on Sunday, August 13 and Wednesday, August 16. They will include the House of Lee trailer…”

“House of Lee is an action/fantasy series that sees Bruce Lee fighting to assemble his Dragon Warriors before the world plunges too far into darkness and shadow,” they add.

Shannon Lee told Deadline that Bruce Lee Entertainment had been wanting to do an animated story based on her father and was inspired to do an anime after ‘White Rabbit’ which was co-produced by Yang.

She explained, “Anime is an amazing medium for telling a truly creative story where Bruce Lee can be Bruce Lee.” Lee continued, “I’m so excited for the possibilities for action, fantasy, history, culture, and creativity within this medium.”

“I love Emily and Shibuya’s perspective,” Lee continued. “They are such creative, hard working, skilled artists with an amazing brand, I just knew that they would be perfect collaborators. The organic way it all came together spoke volumes of our potential collaboration, and it’s been great!”

Bruce Lee starred in the television series ‘The Green Hornet’ as the main protagonist’s crime-fighting partner Kato. He would go on to star in several Hong Kong films including ‘Fist of Fury’ and ‘The Way of the Dragon.’ The 1973 film ‘Enter The Dragon’ would be released shortly after Lee’s death and solidify his legacy as an action star.

The Lunar Cruiser Optimus Prime shakes things up a bit by giving us a whole new vehicle mode and some welcome departures from the standard designs. In robot mode, Prime still maintains several of his distinguishing features, but the vehicle mode really sets this figure apart. You’d never guess that this moon-cruising rover would turn into a G1-styled Optimus.

The Lunar Cruiser is priced at $74.99, making him a bit more pricey than the Missing Link. This Transformer will also be shipped later. Expect it to show up in late June 2024.

Discotek Bringing Anime ‘Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Detonation’ To DVD

Discotek Media is bringing the fourth theatrical ‘Magical Girl Lyrical’ film ‘Nanoha Detonation’ to Blu-ray home video release. The 2018 movie was produced by the Japanese animation studio Seven Arcs Pictures and directed by Takayuki Hamana. Masaki Tsuzuki credited the “MGL” franchise which has produced several television, film, and manga adaptions.

The DVD box set will feature the original Japanese audio with English subtitles. It is planned to be released on September 26th, 2023 though it is available for pre-order on the Right Stuf Anime website.

The film features a voice cast that includes Nana Mizuki, Yukari Tamura, Asami Sanada, Haruka Tomatsu, Kana Asumi, Kana Ueda, Kaori Shimizu, Kazuya Ichijō, Ryoka Yuzuki, Satomi Satou, Yōko Hikasa, and Yukari Tamura.

Discotek describes the synopsis as follows,

‘Komada – A Whisky Family’ Anime Film Orders Up A Trailer

P.A. Works has dropped a trailer for its upcoming original anime film ‘Komada Jouryuusho e Youkoso,’ known in other markets as ‘Komada – A Whisky Family.’ The movie had its debut at the 2023 Annecy International Animation Film Festival, but the trailer reveals that it will receive a wide release in Japan on November 10, 2023.

Anime News Network reported, “Masayuki Yoshihara (The Eccentric Family, Mai no Mahō to Katei no Hi) is directing the film at P.A. Works. Yukito Kizawa and Munemasa Nakamoto, who both worked extensively on scripts for the Monogatari series and Sword Art Online franchise, are penning the screenplay. Tomomi Takada, a veteran P.A. Works key animator and inbetweener, drew the original character design concepts, while Kousuke Kawazura (The Eccentric Family) is designing those characters for animation, while also serving as chief animation director. Tatsuya Katō is composing the music. DMM is credited as producer. GAGA Corporation is distributing.”

The movie is part of the P.A. Works “workplace” entertainment series.

As its second season approaches, Prime Video dropped a new featurette for ‘The Wheel of Time’ that reveals a new threat that the protagonists are going to have to face. The Trollocs are arriving and Amazon Studios released a new video that highlights how they will impact the magical world under the direction of the Dark One.

“The Trollocs are here,” Amazon said in a press release. “Prime Video is pulling back the curtain on these menacing monsters from Amazon Original series, The Wheel of Time. “These fearsome foot soldiers of the Dark One’s army were first introduced in ‘The Eye of the World,’ the first novel in Robert Jordan’s best-selling Wheel of Time book series. Insatiable and bloodthirsty killing machines who exist to do the bidding of the Dark One and his key lieutenants, the Trollocs are genetically engineered super-soldiers who are a terrifying fusion of human and animal, and can take the shape of boars, bears, hawks, and other aggressive creatures.”

Fans of Call of Duty love playing the reboot entries of the series, both online and offline. The new versions of the Modern Warfare games have received a lot of praise from the Call of Duty community. Because of this, Activision continued moving forward with plans to reboot more of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare titles, with the next one in line being Modern Warfare 3. Although a number of leaks in various places seemed to confirm the obvious, Activision has finally made things more official with a new teaser and details.

A new teaser trailer on the official Call of Duty social media pages confirms the imminent release of the rebooted Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III. The game will be coming out in November 2023 and be a direct sequel to the previous Call of Duty reboot title that was released in 2022. The teaser trailer is short and doesn’t give a whole lot of details about Modern Warfare III, but does have a familiar protagonist talking to someone. The voice in the teaser is that of Captain Price, a recurring character in the Modern Warfare games that is popular among fans of the series. A second teaser trailer for the game was also released on the Call of Duty YouTube channel revealing the character Markarov as well.

While the teaser trailer confirmed the upcoming release of the game, other details about Modern Warfare III have come out in relation to how it will impact things like Call of Duty: Warzone online. Over Twitter the page ModernWarzone shared details about COD content creator FaZe Swagg receiving a package that might hint at something making a big return to competitive Call of Duty multiplayer.

Swagg shared a video online to his followers of the package containing a pair of slide sandals, a can of food labeled with a dog on it, and an old cellphone. For many, this seemingly hints at the return of the Slide-Cancelling mechanic from previous Call of Duty games. This allowed players to move around the map at a faster pace, letting competitive players dominate over those who weren’t as well versed in its use. For Warzone 2.0 and Modern Warfare II, slide-cancelling was removed and changed the landscape of competition. This garnered many opinions from players and high-level competitors who relied on it so much.

Although we still don’t have a lot of concrete details about Call of Duty Modern Warfare III just yet, more might get revealed about the game as its release gets closer. For now, Warzone 2.0 continues to be a massively popular game that many play online, as is the same for Call of Duty Modern Ware II. We’ll know soon enough what other big changes will come with the game in November 2023.

Overwatch 2 has a lot of different characters to use online, each with their own abilities and play styles. Many who have played the game since its initial launch have enjoyed the many options to pick from when going online for some matches. Whether you’re a damage dealer, support ally, or full-on tank character; Overwatch 2 has a character that will cater to how you prefer to play. But with new content on the way, a new character is getting added to the game and expanding the already diverse roster. And for some players who enjoy using healers, things are about to get more interesting.

A new trailer for Season 6 content of Overwatch 2 reveals the coming of a new character named Illari. This new character is inspired by Incan culture, with a name that translates to “surprise”, and is a healer that players can use to support their team. Illari uses abilities that wield sun powers, which can damage enemies and provide support to allies. One of her abilities is to launch a turret that can stick to surfaces and heal nearby allies, very similar to Symetra’s turrets that damage enemies.

In addition, Illari has an ultimate that lets her fly up into the air and fire down a blast of light that hits opponents caught in its radius. Most of her play style will involve finding a good balance of healing teammates while handing out damage during a match. Because her playstyle is pretty advanced and requires a lot of skill, it will take some time to master Illari’s arsenal of abilities.

The new content that includes Illari is being given the name Invasion and will have more PVE-oriented content. This means players will be able to jump into story-based missions that get deeper into the lore of Overwatch 2 with a new map, new game modes, and new co-op events. One game mode called Hero-Mastery will have you facing bots with various characters in a battle simulation, while other modes will drop you into new maps Survasa and New Junk City.

The new trailer for all of the new content coming to Overwatch 2 gives fans a quick glimpse of everything. If you enjoy getting new skins for any of your heroes, you can also expect to see brand new costumes to come with all of the new content too. Luckily, Overwatch 2 players won’t have to wait long to get into everything that’s new for the game. Season 6 content will release on August 10th for all platforms where you can play Overwatch 2.

The Chinese steampunk fantasy webnovel ‘Lord of the Mysteries’ from the author known as “Cuttlefish That Loves Diving” is going to be adapted into an animated series, known as a Donghua in China.

Sports Keeda reported, “Recently, on August 8, 2023, a brand-new trailer for the Lord of the Mysteries anime was released, revealing that the first season will premiere in the summer of 2025. The studio in charge of creating the anime adaptation is B.CMAY PICTURES. However, aside from these updates, the production team provided no additional information.”

They added that, “the production team behind LOTM anime confirmed that Lord of the Mysteries anime will be released in the Summer of 2025, making it a part of Anime Summer List 2025. As the staff revealed details about the anime, it also released a brand new trailer for the Donghua.”

Cartoon Network Adds 5 New Animated Series To Their Line-Up

Cartoon Network announces five new series, some returning while some debuting, to their line-up. We will see Batman’s iconic batmobile return to the streets of Gotham. Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck will premiere in a show with them as children and the Teen Titans return to fight the bad guys.

President of Cartoon Network and Boomerang Michael Ouweleen said in a press release, “Cartoon Network presents the best in animation for all generations with iconic, creator-driven shows. This fall is no exception as we premiere new seasons and series from the talented crews at Cartoon Network Studios, Warner Bros. Animation, and Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe.”

They released the list of the shows as follows:

  • “We Baby Bears” – New episodes of this fan-favorite series from Cartoon Network Studios will debut on Aug. 26 at 10:00 am. This story arc follows baby bear brothers Grizz, Panda and Ice Bear and will include guest appearances from Linda Lindas, Anderson Paak, and Willow Smith.
  • “Batwheels” – DC’s super heroic series for preschoolers returns with new episodes on Sept. 11 at 7:45 am. From Warner Bros. Animation, the high-speed animated series follows a group of young super vehicles as they help Batman, Batgirl, and Robin keep the streets of Gotham City safe. This batch includes a special episode featuring the voice of the legendary Batman actor Adam West which will debut on Friday, Sept. 15 ahead of Batman Day on Sept. 16.
  • “Teen Titans Go!” – This perennial favorite series from Warner Bros. Animation starring Robin, Starfire, Raven, Beast Boy and Cyborg continues its eighth season with a new Warner Bros. 100th Anniversary Special arriving Sept. 23 at 9:30 am. During the episode, the gang visits the famed Warner Bros. studio lot for an adventure with exciting surprise guests.

If you want a Steam Deck at a discounted price, Valve has started offering certified refurbished models of the popular handheld console. The discount is pretty good, but there are some caveats.

As of today, all three models of the Steam Deck are listed as certified refurbished. However, only the 256 GB and 512 GB versions are in stock. Those are going for $419 and $519, respectively. Not a bad deal since you’re saving over $100.

The big question is … who is tearing down these units and getting them ready for resale?

Although you can order a refurbished Steam Deck directly from the Steam storefront, Valve is not responsible for the labor that goes into cleaning up the pre-owned systems. You have to travel all the way down into the FAQ to find out who is responsible for the refurbishment work. It turns out that GameStop is turning these around in-house:

All refurbished units meet or even exceed the performance standards of new retail units. Although they may have minor cosmetic blemishes, they provide a reliable, high-quality gaming experience at a lower cost.

Regardless of which model you buy, the Steam Deck will come with the following:

  • The same one year warranty as a new Steam Deck (unless longer as determined by your country of residence)
  • A refurbished power supply – fully tested (may have minor cosmetic marks)
  • Carrying case and Quick Start guide

I’m no stranger to “refurbed” consoles from GameStop. I’ve owned a few, namely the Wii, 3DS, PS3, and an XBOX 360. Out of the four, only the 3DS was in good condition and didn’t need to be torn down and cleaned. The 360 and PS3 were full of dead bugs, rusty parts, and no evidence of refurbishment work aside from buffed and polished cases.

A good alternative for the Steam Deck is ASUS’s recently released ROG Ally. The handheld gaming rig has better specs than Valve’s hardware, but the price is about double. The Ally is only available via Best Buy.
