Rob Paulsen and Others Returning To Voice ‘Shredder’s Revenge’ Cast

Some of the original 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon cast have joined in voicing the characters of DOTEMU‘s upcoming retro beat’em up Shjredder’s Revenge! According to Superhero Hype, Rob Paulsen, Barry Gordon, Cam Clarke, and Townsend Coleman are returning as the voiceover artists of their respected Turtles.

With the game launching this Summer, there may still be time for other original cast members to return. There’s been no word if this will happen, but let’s keep our fingers crossed. Pat Fraley better come back to voice Krang!
The game is similar to Konami’s original arcade classic, but the character sprites are a bit more stubby, like what we saw in the NES port as kids. Likewise, the art style and colors are based on the ’80s cartoon. Yes, April still sports that sexy yellow jumpsuit. Each character has a unique set of animations and attacks but now incorporates “Super Attacks.” The chibi-sized characters also allow players to track combat easier if three other people join the co-op.
MSN covered the game at PAX 2022. A playable version of the game was on hand. Chris Penwell said that Shredder’s Revenge looked good, but playing it was another story. According to Penwell, who had hands-on experience with the game at PAX said, “It can’t escape the beat-em-up’s trappings. The moveset feels limited, and … the game loop may feel old to those who haven’t played a beat-em-up before. The attacks look great at first, but as time passes, they may lose their shine. If there are hidden depths, they weren’t apparent in this preview build. In addition, the boss battles seemed way too easy in the demo that was provided. There seemed to be next to no strategy to their design.

TMNT’s ‘Cowabunga Collection’ Has A $149 Limited Edition

It started as a black and white comic book that didn’t shy away from violence. Then it became a colorful cartoon show followed by a colossal merchandising push. Finally, we got a gritty live-action adaptation and eventual obsolescence, only to be revived in the 2000s. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have managed to hold on to relevancy since.
Somehow, the franchise renewed itself repeatedly, which has finally led to Konami giving us a collection of the franchise’s best video games for only $39.99. This year, we’ll be getting the Cowabunga Collection, a physical and digital release of 13 games in total. These games include Arcade and console releases. Even the Game Boy Turtles titles are included!
Of course, such a collection would also include a Limited Edition, and Konami didn’t disappoint. The Collector’s Set is differentiated by featuring new artwork from Kevin Eastman. It’s not a steel case, though. However, for $149.99, you’ll get a lot of physical goods and not just a forgettable artbook like with other games.
Here’s what the Collection comes with:

  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Arcade)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time (Arcade)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (NES)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game (NES)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: The Manhattan Project (NES)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters (NES)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time (Super Nintendo)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters (Super Nintendo)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Hyperstone Heist (Sega Genesis)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters (Sega Genesis)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Fall of The Foot Clan (Game Boy)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: Back From The Sewers (Game Boy)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: Radical Rescue (Game Boy)

And this is a list of all the stuff that will be included with the Limited Edition:

  • Physical copy of the game with original box design by Kevin Eastman
  • Cloth poster featuring Kevin Eastman’s adaptation of TMNT: Turtles in Time (16” by 24”)
  • Multi-layer acrylic diorama of Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michelangelo (4.5” by 5”)
  • Enamel pin set of five classic designs – The Technodrome, Turtle Blimp, Party Wagon, Shredder and Krang
  • Set of 12 translucent comic style character trading cards based on TMNT: Tournament Fighters with rarely seen appearances from Wingnut, Armaggon, Chrome Dome, War, Aska, Karai and more (3” by 5”)
  • Full color artbook with 180 pages featuring a chapter dedicated to each of the 13 games in the compilation (5.5” by 8”)

An official release date is still up in the air. However, regular and LE collections listings have shown up on retailers like Best Buy.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection assembles thirteen classic TMNT games by KONAMI in one incredible package. This collection provides a unique opportunity for gamers to experience these immensely popular and very influential games on modern consoles and includes a fantastic set of new quality of life features. The games are based on the characters and themes based on the 80’s children’s cartoon and comic book series, The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The game often takes place in a fictionalized New York City, in the sewers, inside futuristic enemy bases and even across time itself!

While this collection is pretty sweet, it’s missing the PC versions of the games. Unfortunately, I didn’t have an NES when I was a kid. So, I had to make do with the C64 ports of these games. It would have been cool if the collection included some Amiga or Commodore versions. Oh, well.

Happy, Happy! Joy, Joy! Ren & Stimpy Join Super7’s Ultimates!

The folks over at Super7 know you’re an adult with a disposable income. You probably watched Ren & Stimpy in middle school. Now that you’ve hit your forties, you are probably sitting there with a bad back and want to relive the simpler times. The times when an angry chihuahua could slap around a dim-witted cat, and we called it entertainment.
Was I right? Good. Now, let me interest you in the initial wave of Ren & Stimpy Ultimates action figures! The 7″ tall figures are $55 each, and they both come with accessories from the once-great Nickelodeon cartoon. Sadly, there’s no Log figure … yet.
Ren Hoek and Stimpson J. Cat will be shipping out in Spring 2023. The only thing missing is an angry face for Ren. Was there ever an episode where he wasn’t mad for one reason or another?

Super7
Super7

Who doesn’t love the violently psychotic Chihuahua that is Ren Hoek? Fun fact: he doesn’t shake because he’s scared or cold- he shakes because he’s barely able to control his inexhaustible rage, YOU EEDIOT!

Accessories:

  • 3x interchangeable heads
    • 1x regular head
    • 1x smiling head
    • 1x ears-up head
  • 6x interchangeable hands
    • 2x fist hands
    • 2x open hands
    • 2x gripping hands
  • 1x fez
  • 1x pork snacks
  • 1x rubber nipple hat
Super7

He’s as simple as a single-color Rubik’s Cube, but behind his dopey feline exterior, Stimpy is a naïve soul with a heart of some precious metal. Not gold, of course. Maybe palladium or iridium… no, not that. Ah! We’ve got it: Rhenium! Yep, that seems right. A heart of rhenium! Yes, it is SO a thing, just look it up, you troglodyte! Sheesh!

Accessories:

  • 2x interchangeable faceplates
    • 1x regular expression
    • 1x joyful expression
  • 6x interchangeable hands
    • 2x expressive hands
    • 2x open hands
    • 2x gripping hands
  • 1x litter box
  • 1x bag of Gritty Kitty Litter
  • 1x Mr. Stinky
  • 1x Nose Goblin
  • 1x rubber nipple hat
  • 1x fish skeleton

Now that I think about it, Ren should have also come with the “happy helmet” and Stimpy with the remote. Oh, well. I’m hopeful that Powdered Toast Man will be in Wave 2, and he better come with Muddy Mudskipper and the Pope.
In the comments below, let us know what you think about these two new Ultimates additions.

WETA Workshop’s ‘Labyrinth’ Statue is $1,199, Bowie Bulge Included

Everything he has done, he’s done for you. Sarah was so ungrateful for everything Gareth, the Goblin King, had manifested for her. She didn’t want to deal with her baby brother; Gareth took him away. She wanted to feel special, and he threw her a trippy masquerade party. How did she repay him? She stormed his city and broke his balls.
Bowie’s bulge is on display here, and he’s also fondling his glass ball. Sarah and Toby also look like they’re a bit concerned that his magical fellow has easy access to the bedrooms of minors. WETA knows precisely what we like when it comes to Jim Henson’s Labyrinth. Well, except for the $1,190 price tag.
This 1/6th scale statue won’t be shipping out until the first quarter of 2023. So, you’ll have time to put that money aside. But unfortunately, this tribute to one of the best fantasy films of the 1980s is limited to only 500 pieces.

With just 5 minutes left, Sarah is closer to retrieving Toby than she’s ever been before. Chasing after the absent Goblin King, she climbs a flight of stairs only to find herself trapped in an Escher-like maze, where up and down have no consequence or bearing. The Goblin King, Jareth, traverses the intertwining stairways without restraint, defying gravity itself as he taunts and beguiles our desperate heroine, pointing out the location of the child beyond her grasp. No matter where she goes or what direction she takes, Toby is always just out of reach, and time continues to run thin within this illusionary maze.

  • 1:6 scale, Limited Edition of 500;
  • Portrays the Goblin King Jareth, Sarah Williams, and her baby brother Toby;
  • Physically sculpted by Wētā Workshop sculptor Jane Wenley;
  • Back panel sculpted with a 3D bas relief, creating the signature illusionary maze;
  • Baby Toby can be displayed upright, or defy gravity upside down;
  • Made from high-quality polystone.

Spider-Man Gets A New Suit From Oscorp

0

Marvel Comics is bringing a new creative to take over ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ with the seventh and eighth issues. Zeb Wells will be taking as the writer with artist John Romita Jr. returning to draw the comic book series for the first time since 2012. With this comes a new Spidey suit.
At this point in the comic books, Peter Parker seems to be on the outs with many of his allies, so he is turning to his enemy Norman Osborn for help… for some reason. With this, Oscorp is providing the web-slinger with a new suit that seems very Cyberpunk complete with his own glider. It also appears Spidey is getting a jet-pack, some spider-bots, and an “egg bomb” that releases tiny Spider drones to help him battle crime in New York City.
They released a variant cover for issue seven that features artist Patrick Gleason’s design sheet:

“Next week, Marvel Comics will honor 60 years of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN with the launch of a legendary new run by writer Zeb Wells and definitive Spider-Man artist John Romita Jr. From the first issue, fans will see the makings of a bold era in the life of Peter Parker,” Marvel said on their website. “On the outs with the Fantastic Four, the Avengers, and even Aunt May, the question that will be on everyone’s mind will be: WHAT DID SPIDER-MAN DO? The new saga will take another wild turn in July’s AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #7 when Norman Osborn returns with big plans for Peter and ushers in one of the biggest Spidey status quo changes in years… Courtesy of Oscorp?!”
They added, “Spider-Man will be getting a new suit complete with accessories that look vaguely…familiar. Is that a GLIDER?!”
Issue seven will go on sale at comic book stores and online on July 6th 2022 with issue eight being released July 27th, 2022.

The 1978 ‘Doctor Strange’ TV Movie Is Coming To Blu-Ray!

In 1978 MARVEL tried to capitalize on the success that The Incredible Hulk and Spider-Man had on television by giving the Masters of the Mystic Arts his own TV show. A pilot was filmed for CBS and aired on September 6, 1978. Unfortunately, it didn’t go over very well as far as reviews and ratings go. Needless to say, the series was not picked up.
Given that Dr. Strange is a significant part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there’s renewed interest in all things connected to the magic man. Of course, that means digging up oddities like the ’78 TV movie and slapping it on a Blu-ray. That’s just what Shout! Factory is doing according to Superhero Hype.
The company that is responsible for bringing many a forgotten film to the latest video format will be releasing Doctor Strange ’78 on Blu-ray on April 26th. This is a barebones product. Aside from a cleaned up print, the only feature is a commentary track with Shout! Factory’s associate producer Russell Dyball and Cole Hornaday of The Panel Jumper podcast.
Peter Hooten stars as Doctor Strange, and Archer‘s Jessica Walter plays the villainous Morgan Le Fay. Since the film was acting as a pilot, it told us the origin of Stephen Strange becoming the heroic sorcerer. I’ll admit, it didn’t do it very well. Don’t expect this to be some sort of hidden gem.
The 1978 movie is funny in its own way. It deserves to be riffed, not only for the questionable script but the bad SFX and the hilariously terrible costume Dr. Strange ends up with near the conclusion of the movie.
Our buddy Brad Jones reviewed this lost bit of MARVEL history. Check it out below:
