SDCC 2022 Exclusive: It’s Bruce Lee Vs The VHS Clamshell Box!

Diamond Select has an exclusive SDCC 2022 Bruce Lee, and he is hitting all the right nostalgic pressure points. The action figure comes inside a case that resembles the long-gone clamshell VHS cases. I hope it makes the same loud creaking sound I remember from childhood.
The Lee figure is decked out in the black pants shoes he wore in Enter The Dragon. Unfortunately, Diamond Select probably couldn’t get the rights to the film’s poster art, so this figure’s packaging is called Bruce Lee The Dragon.
The figure stands at 7″ tall and is priced at a surprisingly affordable $25. Not bad, considering NECA figures are going for $35+ nowadays by comparison. Only 4,000 of these Lee figures will be produced. A release date was not listed on Diamond Select’s site.
The martial arts master comes with the following accessories:

  • Nunchucks
  • Escrima sticks
  • Bo staff
  • Display base
  • (3) pairs of interchangeable hands

This fully articulated 7-inch figure of Bruce Lee features him shirtless, in black pants, and includes nunchucks, escrima sticks, a bo staff and a display base. With interchangeable hands and over 16 points of articulation, this figure of the legendary fighter can take on an army and come out kicking!

This isn’t the only SDCC 2022 exclusive action figure to feature the VHS cover theme. Right now, there are three more that can be pre-ordered. These include John Wick, Daniel LaRusso (Cobra Kai), and Johnny Lawrence (Cobra Kai). LaRusso and Lawrence only come with display stands, while Wick comes with guns. The three figures are also $25 each and are limited to 4,000 pieces.
Now, where are the Killer Klowns From Outer Space and Nada (They Live) figures in this VHS packaging? Personally, I find these packages far more display-worthy than what we see from NECA. Then again, I’m a sucker for VHS artwork from the early ’80s. It’s something that never gets replicated with today’s DVD or Blu-ray advertising.

Two New D-Stage Dioramas Showcase Classic ‘Harry Potter’ Moments

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter has maintained its hold on audiences for years, even after the last book of the series was published and the last Potter movie hit theatres. Beast Kingdom has something new to offer for fans out there looking for new and unique collectibles featuring the scarred wizard and his friends.
The two Diorama Stage collectibles feature scenes from the first two Harry Potter books/movies. In the initial Harry Potter movie, the young orphaned wizard managed to catch the Golden Snitch during a Quidditch Match. Imagine all the lawsuits Hogwarts would be subject to, thanks to all the kids getting concussions or worse.
In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, an incarnation of Lord Voldemort unleashes the deadly Basilisk that dwells beneath Hogwarts. During the story’s climax, Harry is able to defeat the giant serpent when the Sword of Gryffindor presents itself to Mr. Potter.
Each diorama is priced at $39.99. Expect these to arrive in March 2023.

The high-quality coloring and carving is all condensed into a six-inch, 360-degree design that allows collectors to relive some of the most exciting scenes from the movies.

Something I’ve always wondered: how did Wizards and Witches deal with unwanted pregnancies? We already learned how they dealt with bowel movements, but what about inconvenient conception?

Shonen Jumps Announces Conclusion To ‘My Hero Academia’ Spin-Off ‘Vigilantes’

The ‘My Hero Academia’ spin-off prequel manga series ‘Vigilantes’ began publishing on August 20, 2016, written by Hideyuki Furuhashi and illustrated by Betten Court for Shonen Jump. Viz Media began publishing it in English for North America in 2021. It exists in the same universe as ‘My Hero Academia’ created by Kōhei Horikoshi. It has run for 125 chapters, but Shonen Jump recently announced that the series will come to an end.
The story follows a good Samaritan who goes by the Crawler who uses his powers, known as “quirks,” who gets recruited along with social media influencer Pop Step by the vigilante Knuckleduster to battle crime on the streets.
“My Hero Academia spinoff manga My Hero Academia: Vigilantes—written by Hideyuki Furuhashi and illustrated by Betten Court—follows heroes who use their powers to fight villains without a license, and it’s officially getting ready to wrap up its run. Chapter 125 made its way to the Shonen Jump app in English on Friday, and the last page reveals that the final chapter is coming on May 27,” Crunchyroll said on their website.
Shonen Jump shared an image from the penultimate chapter on their Twitter:

Furuhashi described the difference between ‘My Hero Academia’ and ‘Vigilantes’ during a panel at the 2019 Naples Comicon.
“The idea of “what is a hero” is the same in both works, but what changes is the same idea depending on the target,” he said. “My Hero Academia is a shōnen, a genre with a well-defined structure and tropes were, to take as an example, the protagonist always needs to be a good guy. However, in Vigilantes, we can explore the “dark side” of the characters, we can make them do mistakes and the protagonist doesn’t need to always shine as in the traditional shōnen way and this “darkness” can make them emphasize the ‘light’ of the former.”
My Hero Academia Fandom describes the synopsis as follows,
“The manga is about Koichi Haimawari, a young man who despite not being a licensed hero, uses his Quirk to help others. After he and a street performer, Kazuho Haneyama, are harassed by a group of thugs, they are saved thanks to the vigilante, Knuckleduster, who recruits Koichi to become a vigilante himself.”
The manga has been serialized in Jump GIGA and the online magazine Shonen Jump+.

‘Amazing Fantasy’ #1000 Planned To Celebrate Spider-Man’s 60th Anniversary

0

Marvel is planning on celebrating one of their flagship characters in style as the 60th Anniversary of Spider-Man gets closer. Peter Parker and his alter ego was introduced in Marvel Comics by legendary creators Stan Lee and Steve Ditko in the pages of the 1962 ‘Amazing Fantasy’ issue 52. Decades later, Spidey’s legacy will be celebrated in issue 1000 of the same comic book that launched him with stories from various writers and artists.
“Neil Gaiman, Jonathan Hickman, Dan Slott, Jim Cheung, Olivier Coipel and more tell all-new ‘Spider-Man’ stories in a giant-sized one-shot this August,” Marvel Comics explained on their website. “This year marks 60 years of one of comic books’ greatest icons: Spider-Man! In addition to an exciting relaunch of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, a stunning variant cover program, and more, Marvel Comics will also celebrate this milestone anniversary with a special issue honoring the comic that started it all, AMAZING FANTASY.”
They also released an image of the upcoming cover:

Marvel Comics also announced some of the features of the comic book:

  • Visionary writer Neil Gaiman’s grand return to the Marvel Universe
  • Emmy Award winning creator behind Veep and Avenue 5 Armando Iannucci’s Marvel Comics debut
  • Spider-Man mastermind Dan Slott and superstar artist Jim Cheung team up to explore the enduring love between Peter
  • Parker and Mary Jane Watson in a story set in the far future
  • Acclaimed artist Michael Cho and novelist Anthony Falcone introduce a new Spider-Man villain
  • Ho Che Anderson crafts a horror-fueled Spidey adventure that cuts to Peter Parker’s core
  • Plus stories by Rainbow Rowell, Jonathan Hickman, and many more!

Spider-Man has become one of the most recognizable of the Marvel Comics canon. Besides his own comics, he has also partnered with Fantastic Four, Defenders, SHIELD, New Warriors, and the Avengers. He was also a founding member of the New Avengers. For a time, he was the main character of “Marvel Team-Up.”

Super7’s ThunderCats Ultimates Wave 6 Pays Homage to LJN

Super7’s ThunderCats Ultimates is starting to rehash earlier figures, but at least this wave is honoring the original ThunderCats toys of the 1980s. With simplified paint jobs and fewer accessories, Wave 6 brings us back to when LJN produced toys based on Lion-O’s friends and foes.
Cheetara, Lion-O, Mumm-Ra, and Monkian encompass this latest wave. Although these figures are priced at the typical $55, there will be less in each box than usual. We spotted this listing over at Toy Ark. For some reason, the direct link to the figures on Super7’s official website is returning a 404 error message.

1x Sword of Plun-Darr
1x Dagger

The LJN ThunderCats toys were interesting. They were larger than the 3.75″ Kenner and Hasbro figures we were used to at the time. The play features for Mumm-Ra and Lion-O were a bit out of left field. The two main characters had light-up gimmicks rather than just the simple arm swinging action features. Lion-O’s and Mumm-Ra’s eyes plate would glow when you pressed a unique battery-powered “power ring” on their backs. The issue I remember is that you’d have to press the device hard to get a good connection.

LJN, long after the company’s demise, became infamous in the late 2000s with the help of the Angry Video Game Nerd. Throughout the 1980s and ’90s, LJN published several video games based on movie and comic book licenses. Mainly appearing on the NES console, LJN games were typically quick cash-ins that rarely rose above the level of rentals at best.

Super7’s ReAction ‘Star Trek: TNG’ Wave 2 Finally Gives Us ARMUS!

Ever since the character was first introduced in the 23rd episode of the first season of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Armus has been one of the most fascinating creatures in the franchise’s lore. This slimy and mysterious creature deserves more love. It was so powerful that Armus got Denise Crosby out of her contract.
It only took a few decades, but Armus finally has its own action figure thanks to Super7’s second wave of Star Trek: TNG ReAction figures. Joining the evil sludge are Commander Riker, Counselor Troi, Lt. Commander La Forge, Dr. Crusher, and Q in his robes of judgment.
Each figure is priced at $18, and they stand at 3.75″, with five points of articulation. The entire wave can be picked up for $108. The first wave is also available if you need Picard, Data, and Worf.

Why Armus was never revised in Star Trek is a mystery to me. I’m not counting Lower Decks because anything associated with Trek since 2005 is a soulless product to me. The creature had immense power, and its origins were shrouded in mystery. What would have happened if Armus could get off Vagra II in search of the beings who created it? It’s also a missed opportunity in that we never saw the creature’s creators, who were said to be so beautiful that their sight “now dazzles all who see them.
When Galoob originally had the license to create Star Trek: TNG figures, the MicroMachines company didn’t make many adversaries for the crew to battle. The first series had most of the bridge crew and featured nicely detailed faces and uniforms. Before the toy line perished, Gloob produced a Ferengi, Antican, Selay, and Q. There were plans to release more figures and playsets, but that didn’t happen.
Here’s a rundown of the released and unreleased figures based on the first season of TNG.

It’s Prime Time! LEGO Optimus Prime Time!

Why haven’t Transformers been a part of the LEGO line of connecting brick toys before? So it seems like a no-brainer to combine Hasbro/Takara Tomy’s Robots In Disguise franchise with LEGO. Better late than never, I guess.

Sulu Of The Terran Empire Is EXO-6’s Latest ‘Star Trek’ Figure

Mirror, Mirror introduced a staple to the Star Trek franchise that I’m usually excited to see pop up in every series. Seeing well-known characters suddenly undergo a significant transformation via an alternate universe is exceedingly entertaining, with one of my favorites being the Terran Empire version of the NX-01’s crew.
A few months ago, we saw the evil Spock. Finally, another member of the Mirror Universe Enterprise crew is joining the EXO-6 series of 1/6th scale Star Trek action figures. Get ready to face off with the deadly Security Chief Sulu. Predatory in every sense of the word, this Mr. Sulu is a major departure from the original.
Sulu will cost just under $250, including shipping.

Mr. Sulu will come with the following features and accessories:

  • Fully Articulated Body: More than 30 points of articulation allow the figure to be displayed in multiple dynamic poses, approximately 28 cm tall.
  • Realistic Portrait: Sulu’s portrait is lovingly rendered by top artists, with an excellent likeness of Takei and his maniacal smirk. Each head sculpt is specially hand-painted.
  • Terran Empire Uniform: Meticulously researched, this uniform matches the pattern and color of the original costume recreated in 1:6 scale. Magnets are sewn into the uniform so the phaser and dagger can be attached. The Terran insignia and medals are permanently attached to his tunic. (The uniform is not removeable.)
  • Boots: Using leather-like material cut in the original style of the footwear worn in Star Trek: The Original Series.
  • Hands: A total of eight interchangeable hands are included so he can be displayed holding the various accessories or doing the Terran salute.
  • Display Base: A hexagonal display base featuring the transporter pad will provide additional support for the figure. Two different inserts for the floor of the base can represent the transporter pad or the center of the transporter array.
  • Autograph card: An informational card that can used to get an autograph from the performer and displayed with your figure.
  • Phaser Type 2/ Type 1: The pistol-grip type 2 phaser is the weapon of choice for any landing party expecting hostile aliens.  The smaller Type 1 phaser can be removed and used separately.  Both have magnets allowing either to be worn on the utility belt or directly on the pants as they were in the 3rd season.
  • Dagger and sheath: Standard issue for Terran Empire officers, the dagger is perfect for up close and personal assassinations.
  • Communicator: This accurately styled communicator features a real metal flip-up antenna. Includes a magnet so it can attach to the pants.
