Chris Pratt’s Turn As Garfield Happens During The Winter of 2024

0

How does he keep getting away with it?! No, I’m not talking about whatever silly cancel campaign Twitter has against Chris Pratt. I mean Jim Davis. How does his lazy orange cat keep getting movie deals?! Were the first two live-action films not enough for everyone to realize that Garfield doesn’t belong on the silver screen? Apparently not.

According to Deadline, Sony announced today that the next Garfield film will premiere in theatres on February 16th, 2024. The animated exploits of Garfield see Chris Pratt voicing the lead role with Samuel L. Jackson playing the role of Garfield’s dad Vic. However, there is a glimmer of hope because this is being directed by Mark Dindal, who helmed Disney’s The Emperor’s New Groove and the underrated Chicken Little. The script is by Finding Nemo‘s David Reynolds.

February? You know that is usually a dumping ground for films that won’t turn a profit during any other time of the year, right?

The feature-length animated film starring the lasagna-loving feline is the work of Alcon Entertainment. The company’s landing page asks me to install Flash 9.0 or higher. So, that’s always a good sign. Alcon’s track record includes the following films: Dolphin Tale 1 & 2, Dude, Where’s My Car, Blade Runner 2049, The Book of Eli, and Beautiful Creatures. That list explains a few things.

If the movie dropped Pratt and hired a voice actor who could replicate Lorenzo Music’s voice, I’d watch that Garfield movie. Mr. Music’s voice can instantly transport anyone back to the 1980s when he could be heard in the roles of not only Garfield but also Peter Venkman and Tummi Gummi.

What do you think of Pratt as Garfield? Does he have the mellow/lazy tones that match the character? Tell us what you think about Jim Davis’s creation and the ongoing, unstoppable Garfield franchise below.

“Striking fear into the hearts of mortals, the Demon Lord Satan begins to conquer the land of Ente Isla with his vast demon armies. However, while embarking on this brutal quest to take over the continent, his efforts are foiled by the hero Emilia, forcing Satan to make his swift retreat through a dimensional portal only to land in the human world. Along with his loyal general Alsiel, the demon finds himself stranded in modern-day Tokyo and vows to return and complete his subjugation of Ente Isla—that is, if they can find a way back!

Powerless in a world without magic, Satan assumes the guise of a human named Sadao Maou and begins working at MgRonald’s—a local fast-food restaurant—to make ends meet. He soon realizes that his goal of conquering Ente Isla is just not enough as he grows determined to climb the corporate ladder and become the ruler of Earth, one satisfied customer at a time!

Whether it’s part-time work, household chores, or simply trying to pay the rent on time, Hataraku Maou-sama! presents a hilarious view of the most mundane aspects of everyday life, all through the eyes of a hapless demon lord.”

‘The Devil Is A Part-Timer’ was originally launched as a light novel series published by ASCII Media Works for their ‘Dengeki Bunko’ imprint from February 10, 2011, to August 7, 2020. It featured illustrations by Oniku.

Rotten Tomatoes describes the plot synopsis as follows,

“Crysta (Samantha Mathis) is a fairy who lives in FernGully, a rainforest in Australia, and has never seen a human before. In fact, she is told they are extinct. But when a logging company comes near the rainforest, she sees that they do exist, and even accidentally shrinks one of them: a boy named Zak (Jonathan Ward). Now her size, Zak sees the damage that the company does and helps Crysta to stop not only them, but an evil entity named Hexxus (Tim Curry), who feeds off pollution.”

The movie is based on the novel ‘Fern Gullet’ by author Diana Young whose husband worked on the film as a producer.

Mezco Fits Four Iconic Chucky Appearances Into One “5 Points” Figure

The killer doll that wants to get into a little boy’s body has a new action figure. Wait … that sounds terrible.

Serial killer and voodoo enthusiast Charles Lee Ray has remained a horror movie icon since he was first introduced into the genre with 1988’s Child’s Play. Since then, the trapped soul has appeared in several theatrical and direct-to-video films and now has his own TV series. There has been no shortage of Chucky merchandise over the years, but few collectibles managed to encompass the villain’s looks from several separate films.

Mezco has managed to cram four Chuckies into one 5 Points action figure. Whether you’re a fan of the Good Guys look or his reassembled Bride of Chucky visage, there’s something for you here. The mix-n-match doesn’t apply only to Chucky’s head but also to his accessories and torso. Want him to be carrying an ax, gun, or knife? Or how about a ruler to punish a rotten teacher with? Are you a fan of his Child’s Play 2 stabby-hand attachment? It’s all here, too!

The 5 Points Chucky figure is $36 but won’t ship until sometime between April and June 2023.

Retro-Inspired Skeletor and Beastman latex Masks Are Here!

If you’ve been looking for just the right costume accessory that will allow you to dress up as Mattel’s original Masters of the Universe toys, then NECA and Costumes.com have you covered. You’re given a choice of two evils: will you be Beastman or Skeletor?

The masks recreate the bright and bold colors of the 1980s action figures, right down to the lavender paint behind Skeletor’s burning red eyes. Mark Enright is the creator behind these costume accessories, the same guy who has made several other retro-styled masks at Mortar Heads.

The latex masks are “one size fits most,” and each is priced at $49.99. Unfortunately, these masks are limited to only 500 pieces each, and they won’t be arriving until December. Too late for Halloween but just in time for a New Year’s Eve fetish party? You know there are MotU-themed Eyes Wide Shut parties.

Introducing a new line of powerfully cool Masters of the Universe sculpted latex masks from NECA! These full head pullover masks are based on the classic 80s toy appearances and celebrate 40 years of MOTU NECA is kicking off the line with special limited edition Studio Signature Editions. This detailed Beastman mask is limited to 500 pieces worldwide and comes with a signed Certificate of Authenticity from sculptor Mark Enright of Mortar Head Studios. Great for costuming or for display in your home. One size fits most.

One of my concerns when it comes to latex masks is how well they hold their shape during shipping. Sometimes they show up in plastic bags, flattened, and getting them back into the correct form is a pain. Hopefully, these things get shipped with some sort of packing inside the mask.

What do you think of Beastman and Skeletor here? Worth the $49? Let us know in the comments section below.

Two New Iron Studios Statues: Batfleck and Filmation’s He-Man

0

This week has seen several new releases from Iron Studios. Earlier, we saw three new statues from the storyline of Marvel’s Age of Apocalypse. Now, the DCEU’s Batman and Filmation’s He-Man are joining the mix.

Batman is decked out in his Dark Knight Returns-inspired costume, perched above the bat signal. Although Justice League may have been a bit of a mess, like the rest of the DCEU, at least this interpretation of Batman looked good and was brutal towards criminals. But is that enough to warrant a purchase? The Art Scale 1/10 statue is priced at $199.99, with a $40 downpayment due immediately. The statue, similar to the others we’ve covered recently, is due out during the second quarter of 2023.

Wearing his black and grey costume, composed of a Kevlar-titanium alloy resistant to heat, blades, and bullets, and using a cowl that can digitally alter his voice, making it unrecognizable for those that know him, adding your training and enhanced intellect, and an arsenal of gadgets and technological tools on his Utility Belt, he’s among the biggest and most feared heroes on Earth, even without any superpowers like his allies on the Justice League. Inspired by the praised version from director Zack Snyder of the movie Justice League, Iron Studios bring the statue “Batman on Batsignal Deluxe – Zack Snyder`s Justice League – Art Scale 1/10”, with the Dark Knight leaning on his legendary Batsignal.

Now, this is more like it! The Filmation-inspired Art Scale 1/10 statue shows off the iconic transformation scene from He-Man and the Masters of the Universe cartoon. The statue allows for two different display options. You can either have He-Man holding his magic sword aloft while calling upon the Power of Grayskull or during his “I have the Power” moment just before he transforms Cringer into the mighty Battle Cat.

The He-Man statue requires a $50 deposit, and the final price will be $249.99. This collectible stands at 13.4″ tall and will weigh about 7.4 lbs. The hero of Eternia will arrive during the second quarter of 2023.

Uttering the words “By the power of Grayskull …” the young Prince Adam transforms and asserts “… I have the power!” while gaining the form of a giant barbarian and becoming the defender hero of the secrets of Castle Grayskull. One of the most awaited statues by fans and collectors since the announcement of the release of their MOTU line, Iron Studios proudly present “He-Man Deluxe – Masters of the Universe – Art Scale 1/10”, with the iconic protagonist hero from Masters of the Universe replicating his unmistakable transformation scene on a stylized pedestal of the gate from Grayskull.

Three X-MEN ‘Age of Apocalypse’ Statues On The Way!

0

The Age of Apocalypse was the last major comic book event I followed back in 1995. It introduced new characters and interesting variations of existing X-MEN and other mutants. In addition, it spawned its own toyline and was a nice change of pace after the events of Fatal Attraction. Now 27 years later, the X-MEN of an alternate timeline are back with the help of Iron Studios.

Three new statues were announced this week, paying tribute to the Age of Apocalypse designs of Storm, Rogue, and Wolverine (Weapon X). These collectibles are part of the BDS Art Scale 1/10 series and will launch during the second quarter of next year. Each one is priced at $159.99 but can be pre-ordered with just a small downpayment. Check them out below!

Floating over a pedestal that emulates the throne of her most feared enemy, in an alternate reality, the young mutant with absorption powers and leader of the X-Men uses her mutant abilities next to her husband Magneto and her allies to challenge the tyrant En Sabah Nur, known better as Apocalypse, against his genocidal reign. Iron Studios bring the statue “Rogue BDS – X-Men: Age of Apocalypse – Art Scale 1/10”, inspired by Marvel’s audacious comics saga from the 1990s.

With translucent energy flames spawning from her hands, the mutant with white hair and eyes praised as a deity by her people in the African continent opens her arms while she is raised by a vortex of wind current at her feet that she controls. Wearing a bicolor black and white habit with a flavescent sash on her waist, floating over a pedestal made by rustic mechanic elements, Iron Studios bring the statue “Storm BDS – X-Men: Age of Apocalypse – Art Scale 1/10”, with the version of the Goddess of the Winds inspired by Marvel’s audacious comics saga from the 1990s.

Climbing a technological pedestal filled with steel conduits and electronic components, the fierce Canadian mutant with his fury expressed on his face, unsheathes his right fist’s claws coated with the indestructible metal Adamantium (a fictional alloy), and brings his biggest scar in his left fist, of the hand that he lost in combat. Using a red and blue variant of his original costume, with his even longer, peculiar, and messy hair like a feline mane, in this other reality he takes upon his original codename as a definitive one. Iron Studios bring the statue “Weapon X – BDS – X-Men: Age of Apocalypse – Art Scale 1/10”, with the version of the hero Wolverine inspired by Marvel’s audacious comics saga from the 1990s.

OK, the Green Goblin was part of the AoA storyline, but the statue was recently announced for pre-order. So, we’re going to cover it. This statue features Norman Osborn’s alter ego as he appeared in Spider-Man: No Way Home. The 12.6″ tall figure shows the Goblin in flight with a pumpkin bomb in hand. The statue can be displayed with either Norman’s exposed face or helmeted.

The Green Goblin is priced at $199 but can be pre-ordered now for $40 down. The expected release date is during the second quarter of 2023.

Flying in the night sky of New York with his Goblin Glider over Liberty Island, with an insane laugh the fearsome villain passes through, destroying the metallic structure of a scaffold used in the restoration of the symbolic statue renamed Liberty Avenger. Wearing a metallic green battle suit technologically advanced that enhances his strength and endurance, covered by a ragged purple hoodie, previously used to hide his armor, as a spectrum created on Halloween, he prepares himself to throw one of his Pumpkin Bombs. Inspired by his striking appearance in the movie “Spider-Man: No Way Home”, Iron Studios bring the statue “Green Goblin BDS – Spider-Man: No Way Home – Art Scale 1/10”, with Spider-Man’s legendary archenemy masterfully played again by Willem Dafoe in the MCU.

Which statues are you going to pre-order? What did you think about the Age of Apocolypse storyline? Let us know below.

Motörhead’s Classic Lemmy Joins Super7’s Ultimates

Legendary rocker Ian “Lemmy” Kilmister is no stranger to Super7‘s various lines of action figures. He has appeared more than once in the company’s ReAction figure catalog, but this time he is joining the top ranks of the Ultimates series. The Motörhead frontman will be making his debut as a 6″ tall, highly detailed action figure during the end of Summer 2023. Pre-orders started this week and will run until September 2nd, 2022. Like other Ultimates toys, Classic Era Lemmy will be $55 and come with a number of interchangeable parts and accessories.

Even the packaging for Lemmy’s figure is metal as hell! As you’d expect, Lemmy comes with his bass, booze, and multiple swappable heads/hands, including a middle finger gesture and a cigarette. Even the included microphone is accurate! Yes, the sleeveless shirt is fabric.

I cannot wait to see what version of Lemmy makes it into the Ultimates collection next. Will it be the “Modern Cowboy,” or maybe we’ll get an Ultimates Warpig?

‘The Rogue Heir of Elethorn’ Adds 2 New Characters to HeroQuest

Hasbro has announced that the next expansion for the new version of HeroQuest is The Rogue Heir of Elethorn. The “Hero Collection” will include two new rogue characters, twelve character cards, and a new story sheet. In addition, the rogues introduce skills currently unavailable to any other hero in the game.

The small expansion is set to ship out during December and is priced at $16.99. The HeroQuest Game System is required to use these characters, which should go without saying. Or, you could just pick them up to paint for use in another tabletop RPG.

Prepare for battle! Independent, but loyal to the monarch, The Rogue Heir of Elethorn is a nimble skirmisher deadly with small blades. When you play as this hero, you lack the ability to use metal armor and shields, but you’re equipped with your trusty bandolier, and are always ready to meet danger head on.

  • THE ROGUE HEIR OF ELETHORN: This HeroQuest character collection includes two finely-detailed miniatures, 12 game cards, and a story card. (Requires HeroQuest Game System to Play. Sold Separately)
  • EXPAND YOUR GAMEPLAY EXPERIENCE: Go deeper and broader into the world of HeroQuest with this nimble skirmisher who has unique powers and skills not possessed by any other HeroQuest character
  • CHOOSE YOUR HERO: Choose to play as the male or female Rogue Heir of Elethorn. Each one has the skills as a well-trained knife fighter ready to stand between allies and danger
  • WELL-HONED FIGHTING SKILLS: Combat Mobility, Ambidextrous, Dagger, and Bandolier cards reveal unique advantages you acquire when playing as this reluctant, yet loyal hero

HeroQuest was relaunched last year after the original Games Workshop version ceased production in the 1990s. The revised HeroQuest started out as a crowdfunding campaign on Hasbro Pulse and hit the market during the Christmas season of 2021. While many features remained, some things had to be changed because Games Workshop was no longer involved. Mainly this applied to character designs. The game has proven popular as it has received several expansions. The Frozen Horror, an expansion for the original game, is also being reimagined and should be on the market this September.

Arcade1Up’s Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes Coming Soon!

Arcade1Up wants to take us for a ride. That ride ends with the company finally making a WiFi-enabled Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes arcade cabinet! Yes, the legendary fighting game that pitted 56 Marvel and Capcom characters against each other will soon be getting the signature Arcade1Up treatment.

Pre-orders for the cabinet start on September 8th, and the expected ship date is “just a few weeks after,” according to the machine’s page. The cabinet is modeled after the recently announced Capcom Legacy machine but has new side panel art. However, the control deck appears to be the same, and there’s no artwork around the monitor’s border.

Arcade1Up

Not only does this cabinet include what is arguably the best MVC game, but seven other titles are accompanying it, including:

  • Marvel vs Capcom 2
  • Marvel vs Capcom
  • Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter
  • X-Men vs Street Fighter
  • Marvel Super Heroes
  • X-Men: Children of the ATOM
  • X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse
  • Marvel Super Heroes in War of the Gems

X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse is an interesting choice because it’s not a fighting game. This was originally a SNES game made by Capcom. The character sprites were very similar to the ones found in the fighting games. It was a challenging game:

The cabinet itself will come with a custom riser and a light-up marquee. There will also be a headphone jack, which is a welcome addition. I have a few cabinets in my office, and not all of my co-workers will enjoy hearing “I Wanna Take You for a Ride” repeatedly.

As far as negatives go, the WiFi play may not apply to all the included games. WiFi Play is limited to MVC2, from what I can tell. If that’s the case, it’s a bit of an odd limitation because the cabinet has six other fighting games. X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse is a single-player console game, so that’s not an issue.

Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes has seen a few non-arcade releases since it launched in 2000. The SEGA Dreamcast port was my personal favorite. The game was eventually ported to the PS2, XBOX, PS3, and XBOX 360. There was even a port on the iPhone, but from what I remember, it wasn’t all that great. I believe it has been delisted from iTunes for some time.

If you’re looking to put down $400-$700 on the Arcade1Up machine, I suggest investing in a few upgrades, such as better joysticks and buttons. I’ve been modding Arcade1Up cabinets for a couple of years now, and it doesn’t take a lot of effort to make changes that can drastically improve the gaming experience. All the parts you need are readily available on Amazon and require basic soldering skills.

Will you be picking up this cabinet? What do you think is a fair price for the eight-game collection? Let us know your thoughts below.
