Four New Witcher Statues Are Coming In 2023

PureArts is launching four new statues based on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The 1/6th scale statue of Geralt of Rivia seated with the chalice in one hand and the silver sword in the other is full of impressive detail. The 11″ tall statue is priced at $439, but before you order one, a larger 1/4 scale statue is also available. Geralt comes in a standard edition and a Deluxe edition. The difference? A ton of money! OK, you also get the High Vampire Dettlaff perched above Geralt, but the character adds another $1,365. Yeah, this version of the statue clocks in at $1,804. It is 42″ wide and 23.62″ tall. So, you are indeed getting something that takes up a lot of space. Both statues are set to ship sometime between July and September 2023.

Sideshow and PureArts are proud to bring the stunning Blood & Wine cover art to life with one of our largest and most impressive statues to date! Surmounted by the High Vampire Dettlaff with a spectacular 42 inch wingspan, Geralt of Rivia gazes intently from his throne and gripping a bloodied chalice in one hand, his enhanced griffin silver sword in the other.

If you’re more of a fan of Ciri than Geralt, PureArts has two versions of the female Witcher, too! There’s a Deluxe version and a Deluxe “Bonus” version available. The good news is they’re both at the same price: $985. The “Bonus” is as follows:

The Deluxe Bonus Version comes with two (2) sets of Swappable Arms to extend your storytelling. Her right arm can either be drawing her trusty sword, Zireael, or already holding it out. And her left arm is ready to block up or down! Moreover, if you order from Prime 1 Studio’s online store and authorized dealer, Ciri will come with a fifth swappable arm: it features her left hand clutching the iconic Cat School Medallion she lifted from the corpse of Leo Bonhart!

Not bad since it’s more or less a freebie. Both statues are set to hit between June and November 2023.

Taking its cue from Zerrikanian fashion, Ciri’s Alternative Outfit is one of the best in the game. It sports upper body chainmail to protect her torso during sword-swinging fights, more than a white blouse could, at least! The talented artists at Prime 1 Studio made every effort to reproduce this favorite-among-favorites with exacting beauty and fidelity. You can see this in the delicate filigree of her pauldron and kneepads and the fine scrollwork of her loincloth. With her piercing emerald green eyes, the Elder Blood Prodigy is as beautiful as she is deadly, already unsheathing her sword for the fight ahead.

Freevee Streaming App Jumps Into Original Film Content With Rom-Com ‘Hotel for the Holidays’

Formerly known as IMDb TV, Amazon’s ad-supported free streaming service Freevee possesses several original shows including a ‘Bosch’ sequel. Now they appear to be taking the next step by acquiring the distribution rights to the romantic comedy ‘Hotel for the Holidays’ as its first original holiday movie.

“Freevee announced today that its first Original holiday movie, ‘Hotel for the Holidays,’ has cast Madelaine Petsch (Riverdale) and Mena Massoud (Aladdin) as the romantic leads. The film will debut this holiday season exclusively on Amazon Freevee in the U.S. and UK,” Amazon said in a statement.

Directed and executive produced by Ron Oliver, it was created by Brad Krevoy. The feature also stars Max Lloyd-Jones (The Book of Boba Fett) as Prince Raymond, Kayleigh Shikanai (American Gods) as Pandora, Jami Belushi (According to Jim) as Kiki, Neil Crone (It) as Milton, and Jayne Eastwood (My Big Fat Greek Wedding) as Florence. There is no official release date, though Freevee has said that the film will debut this holiday season.

Amazon also released some first-look images from the movie:

Freevee describes the synopsis as follows,

“Hotel for the Holidays revolves around an ensemble of staff and guests at the charming Hotel Fontaine in New York City during Christmastime. Georgia (Petsch) is an ambitious young woman and the manager of the high-end hotel, which attracts guests of all kinds—including heartbroken singles, an infamous pop star, and a European ex-prince who recently abdicated his throne—all looking to escape from their everyday lives and come to the hotel as a sanctuary during the holiday season. Georgia’s work and personal life become entangled when she is caught between the charming hotel chef Luke (Massoud) and the sophisticated ex-prince staying at the hotel. The storylines of Georgia and the hotel’s eclectic guests twist, turn, and come together, as they unexpectedly find friendship, love, and inspiration.”

Originally titled FreeDive in 2019 before becoming IMDb TV that same year. It would morph into Freevee in 2022.

Fresh Monkey Fiction’s Longbox Heroes Pits The Tick VS Barry!

It’s The Tick VS the former Tick (and former Cheese Wizard) Barry!

The Tick Barry in the NEC comics was a wealthy man with a superhero obsession. He’d use his money to either buy out or challenge other heroes for their identities. Before The Tick arrived in The City, Barry used the name and didn’t take too kindly to the Big Blue Bafoon treading on his turf.

The Longbox Heroes figures are based on the classic Kenner Super Powers. Both Ticks have the same body, with seven points of articulation; the only difference is the paint job and heads. Fresh Monkey Fiction is creating a considerable number of figures based on comic book heroes we rarely see in toy form. Check out our previous article for the other figures that should be arriving next year. The figures are said to be 5″ tall, but in the mockups I’ve seen, the Tick appears to be slightly taller than other figures in the Longbox Heroes Collection. I guess we’ll find out for sure next year.

Fresh Monkey Fiction

Fresh Monkey Fiction

Barry appeared in the seventh episode of the first season of The Tick’s FOX cartoon. Sadly, the character did not show up in either live-action adaptation.

OK, to be that guy, Tick wasn’t in disguise when he faced Barry. The disguise was from a much earlier issue when Tick took a very short-lived job at a newspaper and drew the ire of yet another superhero, the Caped Wonder. Clark Oppenheimer’s secret identity is almost exposed when Tick starts working alongside him at the Weekly World Planet. The clash eventually ends with them both being hit by a subway train. Hopefully, Oppenheimer will show up in the Longbox Heroes series ultimately.

What do you think of these two new figures? Let us know below.

Beastie Boys and Parks & Recreations Join Super7’s ReAction Line

Now you can let your kids recreate the best Beastie Boys video of all time in their bedroom with the official Super7 Sabrotage ReAction figures! OK, the song doesn’t have anything to do with the music video that accompanies it, but think of all the ways you can use these 3.75″ tall figures!

Wave 1 includes Alasondro Alegré As “The Chief,” Vic Colfari As Bobby, and “The Rookie” Nathan Wind As Cochese. I’m unsure if the wave is just for Sabotage or the Beastie Boys in general. Could we see Ad-Rock, MCA, and Mike D reappear as ReAction figures from their other music videos? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

The Sabotage trio should start shipping in September. The figures are $20 each or can be picked up as a set for $60 directly from Super7.

Super7

Super7

With its distorted baseline hook, screaming vocals, and an iconic over-the-top music video that was part parody, part homage to 1970’s crime dramas, the Beastie Boys’ “Sabotage” single became an instant classic! Super7 is proud to introduce Beastie Boys ReAction Figures of Ad Rock, MCA, and Mike D as their “Sabotage” music video personas: Vic Colfari as Bobby, “The Rookie”, Nathan Wind as Cochese, and Alasondro Alegré as “The Chief”.

The song is a roundabout way of the Beastie Boys venting about their producer’s attempts to cripple their careers and potential. Regardless, it’s a great aggressive song and was the only good thing about the Kelvin Timeline Star Trek films.

Another new announcement from Super7 is the first wave of NBC’s Parks and Recreation ReAction figures. The initial release includes most of the main cast: Leslie Knope, Ron Swanson, Ben Wyatt, Donna Meagle, April Ludgate (With Champion!), and Special Agent Burt Macklin. This makes me wonder if there will be a second wave at all. Each figure is 3.75″ tall, and most come with an accessory. Individually the figures are $20 each, but the entire wave can be picked up for $120.

We need to remember what’s important in life: friends, waffles, ReAction Figures! Super7 is proud to introduce Parks and Recreation ReAction Wave 1, featuring fan favorite characters from Pawnee!

Chinese Animated Film ‘New Gods: Yang Jian’ Gets North American Distribution

0

Chinese animation studio Light Chaser Animation is bringing their latest film ‘New Gods: Yang Jian’ to the United States after securing a distribution deal with GKids. Being released in China on August 19, it will make its way to North American theaters in early 2023 with an English dub.

Directed by Ji Zhao, it is the third in an animated fantasy movie franchise that retells the stories of Chinese mythological figures. The film stars Kai Wang, Guanlin Ji, Lihong Li, and Lanling Li.

GKIDS’ President David Jesteadt explained, “Light Chaser Animation is one of the most exciting CG studios working today, and we are thrilled to continue our relationship on their newest film New Gods: Yang Jian.” He added, “The film drips with style, bringing a unique and action-packed spin on a classic Chinese story. We can’t wait to share it with American audiences early next year.”

You can watch the trailer below:

GKids describes the synopsis as follows,

“Thirteen years after Yang Jian (known to some as Erlang Shen) imprisoned his sister beneath a mountain, the once powerful god now scrapes by as a penniless bounty hunter. When a mysterious woman hires him for a new job, Yang Jian soon finds himself chasing down a familiar figure. He must stop Chenxiang, his long-lost nephew, who is in search of the magical lotus lantern that will free his mother, even if it will bring catastrophe. As Yang Jian confronts the actions of his past, he must face a host of dangerous vigilantes seeking the same treasure with the power to alter the balance of their worlds.

This latest entry in the New Gods universe from Light Chaser Animation (‘White Snake,’ ‘New Gods: Nezha Reborn’) features awe-inspiring action sequences set against breathtaking and wildly imaginative environments. Combining ancient lore with dazzling animation, ‘New Gods: Yang Jian’ is a timeless adventure of epic proportions featuring one of China’s legendary mythic figures.”

The film opened number one at the Chinese box office.

Predator 2’s Net Gun and Dart Replicas Coming Soon

0

Is it me, or are there a lot of Predator replicas hitting the market in recent months? This year we’ve seen the first Predator‘s mask and Plasmacaster Cannon announced along with the City Hunter Predator’s Gary Busey-killin’ “Cutting Disc.” As I was closing out my articles for the week, I noticed that Hollywood Collectibles Group had announced yet another replica. This time it’s the City Hunter’s Net Gun and the Dart which cost Danny Archuleta his life.

HCG has faithfully recreated the props seen in Predator 2, and they are limited to only 150 pieces. Unfortunately, the replicas are non-functional; they do not contain any lights or electronics. In addition, it’s not clear if the props are permanently attached to the base. The Net Gun is 11″ long, and the dart is 5″ tall. Each piece is hand-painted and made from resin and “mixed media.”

The Net Gun and Dart are expected to ship out this quarter, and the Exclusive Edition (including an individually numbered plaque) is priced at $599.95.

Using Screen-used props for reference, Hollywood Collectibles Group has for the first time ever, accurately recreated the Urban Predator’s Net Gun and Dart as a Licensed 1:1 Scale Prop Replica! This intricately detailed, Museum Quality piece is constructed from resin, and mixed media and then hand painted to the finest detail with authentic weathering for added realism! It comes complete with display stand. Each piece is hand-cast, hand-finished, and hand-painted to exacting standards, then individually hand-numbered.

The Net Gun makes two appearances in Predator 2: once during the penthouse slaughter and again when Harrigan battles the City Hunter inside the Yautja ship. A slightly different version of the device is seen in W.S. Anderson’s Alien VS Predator film. If you want to learn more about the Yautja’s armory lore, check out the video below from Infinity SciFi’s channel.

In the comments section below, let us know what you think about these latest replicas.

Japanese Gamers Abandon the PlayStation 5? Xbox and Nintendo Sales Benefit from Backlash.

0

Oof. The PlayStation brand isn’t what it once was in the Land of the Rising Sun. In fact, compared to previous PS consoles, the PS5 looks like a bit of a dud.

Granted, it might be difficult for someone to actually secure a PlayStation 5 in Japan. But many players will simply step over the console and move on to Switch, Xbox or PC. And it looks like many Japanese players are doing just that.

Globally, only 21.7 million PlayStation 5 units have been sold to date. And only 7.9% of those units were sold in Sony’s home country. This is about on par with the PlayStation 4, which was also viewed as a bit of a dud in Japan.

Japanese gamers are quitting Sony.

With Japan making up such a small percentage of Sony’s player base, the company is seemingly pivoting to a more western audience. Last year, Sony shut down its Japanese Studio in what many saw as another sign that Sony isn’t interested in Japanese gamers. AAA games are being developed with more “western sensibilities” (i.e. censored and featuring progressive ideology) and Japanese players seem to be rejecting the PlayStation brand altogether, whether or not they can find a PS5.

Players are also complaining about the recently announced “inflation” price hike on the already expensive PlayStation 5. Some players point out you can buy a cheap gaming PC for what a PS5 will set you back, and have an almost unlimited amount of games available to play.

Sony seems to be locking in some highly-anticipated titles as PS5 exclusive, despite demand from gamers to release those titles on PC. One high profile example is Final Fantasy XVI, which is slated to be console exclusive for at least the first six months.

Xbox is benefitting from the Sony backlash.

With the price increase, consumer dissatisfaction and ‘supply chain issues’ it would appear that the Xbox is making waves in Japan. In fact, the Xbox Series has now sold more than double the number of units as the Xbox One.

It’s ironic, as Xbox was historically viewed as the “western” system while PlayStation catered to a Japanese audience first. Now those roles seem to be reversed.

The Nintendo Switch has also benefitted from Sony’s failure, as Switch games dominate the Japanese sales charts week after week.

What does the future hold for Sony?

It’s unlikely that Sony would sunset the PlayStation brand entirely. In fact, the PlayStation 6 is currently rumored to be in development. However, even video game giants like Atari and Sega came to a conclusion that making new consoles was no longer financially viable. That day could very well come for Sony, too.

What is a Man? Dunno, But This Richter Belmont Statue Is No Lie.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night was my favorite game for the Playstation. It reinvented the franchise by borrowing from Metroid and delivered the “What is a Man” meme. Yet over the years, the collectibles based on this great title are few and far between. Thankfully, First4Figures has been pumping out premium SotN statues.

The latest Castlevania statue is the heroic, if not temporarily possessed, Richter Belmont. As we’ve come to expect from First4Figures, this statue comes in multiple flavors. You can either get your Belmont with illuminated holy water and sword or without it and a whip rather than a sword. The Standard Edition is $589.99, while the Exclusive Edition comes in at $609.99. Only $20 more for a glowing blue bottle of Jesus Juice? It works for me.

Richter Belmont is expected to arrive during the third quarter of 2023. First4Figures is also still taking pre-orders for two versions of Death, and you can also get on the wait list for the Exclusive Edition of Dracula.
