The King Returns! Weta To Release A LotR Elendil Statue!

0

The once King of Gondor, who led men and elves into battle during the Second Age against the forces of Mordor, is finally getting a premium statue from the WETA Workshop. Elendil stands 18″ tall and features the kind of fantastic detail we’ve come to expect from WETA Workshop. The King is scheduled to ship in July 2023, but he can be pre-ordered now for $549.99 over at Entertainment Earth.

I’m worried about what may happen if Elendil is introduced in Amazon’s The Rings of Power. For those who’ve not watched it, the show plays fast and loose with J.R.R. Tolkien’s characters, lore, and mythos. Elendil is a half-elf, related to Elrond via a long line of kings. The character has his place in the story of the Second Age. Still, given the weird amounts of social politics injected into the fantasy story, I wouldn’t doubt if the origins of Aragon’s ancestors were changed.

Elendil has very little screen time in Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy. He is seen briefly during the Battle of the Lost Alliance against Sauron and his minions. The brave King charges the Dark Lord only to be quickly struck down. Elendil’s son Isildur rushed to his side in the heat of battle. He has but a moment to grieve his father’s death before Sauron is upon him. With the shattered sword Narsil, Isildur manages to sever the One Ring from evil’s grasp. Sadly, the King’s son could not resist the power of the Ring in the end.

Why Elendil doesn’t get more recognition is beyond me. Perhaps it’s his lack of screen time and dialog? The same could be said of Isildur. But, at least now, WETA is fixing that issue with this collectible.

X-Men: The Animated Series Magneto Figure Is Here From Mondo!

Earlier this year, we saw that Mondo was giving us all a chance to pick up the 1/6th scale X-MEN: The Animated Series Wolverine figure. He was in high demand. At the time, I’d wondered who would be next to get the 12″ treatment [heh]. It turns out it’s the Master of Magnetism’s turn! Yeah! Magneto is here in all his cel-shaded glory! He manages to outdoor the Wolverine figure in the number of accessories and functionality! Much like the original Toy Biz Magnet, this figure, too, comes with magnetic hands! Now you can ruin your parents’ TV just like I did!

Like Wolverine, Magneto also comes with a hefty price tag. He is sitting at $225, but you’d better act fast because the pre-order window for Max Eisenhardt is only open until September 15th at 12 PM.

The Master of magnetism, and one of the X-Men’s main antagonists is finally here. Based on the beloved X-Men: The Animated Series show from the ‘90s, this Magneto 1/6 scale figure is the follow-up to last year’s Wolverine and is the next addition to our growing line.

Magneto comes with the following parts and accessories:

  • Standard portrait
  • Angry portrait
  • 20XX portrait
  • Eric Lensherr portrait
  • Evil Morph portrait
  • Two magnetized energy rings
  • Magnetized metal shards
  • Bendable metal fragment
  • Two open palm magnetized hands
  • Two magnetized fists
  • 4 pairs of interchangeable hands
  • Figure Stand

If you’re still looking to pick up the 1/6 scale Wolverine, he’s available from Mondo for $200.

Which character should be next? I’d personally love for it to be Rogue, Gambit, or Storm. Gambit may be a bit tricky because of the coat. Having the coat made from soft goods would take away from the animated look, but an all-PVC outfit could limit his articulation. What do you think? Let us know below.

Celebrate 40 Years Of He-Man With This MotU 4-Pack!

Starting on September 15th, Mattel Creations will begin taking orders for the Masters of the Universe Origins He-Man 40th Anniversary 4-Pack. This $150 Origins figures collection includes four versions of He-Man from his various animated incarnations. In addition, the latest He-Man from He-Man and the Masters of the Universe also joins the mix with an all-new figure done in the Origins style.

Each figure is 5.5″ tall, and they all sport 16 points of articulation. Every He-Man comes equipped with a chrome version of his signature weapons. The Original He-Man breaks from Origin’s tradition and comes with a Filmation-styled head, simplified details, chest armor, and sheath. That alone makes this box set a must-buy. By the power of Grayskull! This MOTU Origins 4-pack celebrates He-Man over the last 40 years. From his famous bowl cut on the 1980’s figure to the futuristic galactic outfit on the most modern figure, He-Man has always looked great defending Eternia. Each figure is highly posable, comes with exclusive VUM accessories, and has true-to-character details to look like our legendary hero from TV in each decade. This collector’s set comes in premium “TV” packaging complete with programming designs from each era and an Eternia tube slipcover.

This set includes the following:

  • 5.5 inch MOTU Origins collectible figures
  • 16 points of articulation for timeless poses
  • He-Man action figures from the 80’s Filmation Series, ’90’s New Adventures, the early 200x defender, and most recent Netflix He-Man and the Master of the Universe series
  • Premium “TV” packaging with MOTU easter eggs for fanatics

The only thing I’m disappointed in is He-Man 200X’s face. He’s sporting a reused face sculpt from earlier in the Origins line, but with 200X-styled hair. I was hoping for a slimmer visage that looked more like the relaunched figures from twenty years ago. Oh, well. What do you think of the figures? Let us know below.

Wikipedia describes the synopsis as follows,

He reincarnates in a fantasy world under the name Cid Kagenou, where he maintains a perfectly mediocre appearance as to not stand out but instead pursue his dream of manipulating from the shadows. One day, he stumbles upon an elven girl infected by a mysterious disease and cures her. Cid makes up a story, explaining that this world is secretly run by the Cult of Diabolos, and his secret organization, Shadow Garden, are the only ones that can fight them. The elven girl, now named Alpha, joins this organization and begins recruiting new members. However, the stories Cid made up were actually true, but he believes it to be total delusion. Cid continues fighting the Cult of Diabolos under the alias Shadow, completely unaware that he is involved in a complicated power struggle.”

Kadokawa Shoten publishes a manga version of the isekai illustrated by Anri Sakano. There is a spin-off titled ‘Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute! Shadow Gaiden (The Eminence in Shadow! Shadow Side Story)’ that has been created by Seta U. Both are serialized in the ‘Comp Ace’ magazine.

Michael Myers Revealed In New ‘Halloween Ends’ Images

0

Michael Myers is front and center in some new images for the upcoming horror sequel ‘Halloween Ends.’ With these key images, we get a look at the famous killer stalking on a stairwell, entering a home, and confronting his sister Laurie Strobe, played by ‘Freaky Friday’ actress Jamie Lee Curtis.

The images were released exclusively to ‘Total Film’ magazine along with comments from director David Gordon Green and Curtis.

“And it’s nerve-racking. I’ve moved around the last few scenes of the movie in various orders, and I’ve been playing with music. How do I want to feel [when] I walk out of the theatre, thinking that there’s not going to be another one next year? So that’s the sculpture,” he told Total Film in an interview.

“This one is a good time at the movies,” Green added. “Let’s have a blast, ride the roller coaster with a few unexpected turns, and walk away feeling complete. That’s what I want.”

“They saw something that I don’t think I even saw,” Curtis added, reflecting on the beginnings of the franchise. “That was John and Debra’s great skill – creating that character in a town that is like every other town in the United States who then comes into contact with the epitome of evil. And 44 years later, we’re still interested in that confluence of those two things. That’s why, at the end of the day, Halloween stands above all others.”

‘Halloween Ends’ is the follow-up to 2021′ ‘Halloween Kills’ and is the thirteenth film in the ‘Halloween’ franchise. It is being billed as the final entry in the reboot series that began with the 2018 movie which ignores all previous entries save for the very first 1978 ‘Halloween’ movie.

Blumhouse Productions and Universal Pictures have set October 14, 2022, as the release date for ‘Halloween Kills.’

Ubisoft And Netflix Partner To Develop New Mobile Games

The video game developers at Ubisoft and the streaming service Netflix announced that will be collaborating on three news mobile games including one based on the fan-favorite ‘Assassin’s Creed,’ to be released along with a live-action television series. The other video games in development were announced as a new survival game based in the ‘Valiant Hearts’ universe and another entry in the “hack-and-slash combat” game series ‘The Mighty Quest.’

“Netflix and Ubisoft are announcing plans to create three mobile games from some of the world’s most beloved game franchises to Netflix, starting in 2023. First announced today at Ubisoft’s annual digital event Ubisoft Forward, the three games will expand on the Valiant Hearts, Mighty Quest and Assassin’s Creed universes, and will be available exclusively on mobile to Netflix members around the world with no ads or in-app purchases,” Netflix said on their website.

Netflix Vice President of Games Mike Verdu said in a statement, “We’re thrilled to work with Ubisoft, whose track record creating memorable worlds for fans is unmatched.” He added, “This partnership will provide our members with exclusive access to some of the most exciting game franchises as we continue to build a catalog of great mobile games for our members around the world.”

Ubisoft Chief Mobile Officer Jean-Michel Detoc echoed those sentiments.

“As we continue to create great experiences on all platforms, we’re glad to be partnering with such an innovative and creative partner as Netflix,” he said. “I believe that this partnership will be a great opportunity for Netflix members to further explore our worlds and universes on mobile.”

The live-action ‘Assassin’s Creed’ is still looking for a showrunner though it will be executive produced by Jason Altman and Danielle Kreinik of Ubisoft Film & Television. The deal with Netflix includes not just one series, but multiple shows and animated series.

Apple Must Provide Charging Cables With New iPhones Per Brazil

0

Brazil has ordered that if Apple wants to continue business within the country, the company must supply power adaptors with all iPhones. According to PC Mag, Brazil is cracking down on the missing peripheral, and the government is also imposing a fine. According to Brazil’s Ministry of Justice and Public Security:

The sale of iPhone cell phones unaccompanied by battery chargers has been suspended throughout the national territory. The Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP) also imposed a fine on the manufacturer Apple Computer Brasil in the amount of R$ 12,275,500, and ordered the cancellation of the registration with Anatel of the brand’s smartphones from the iPhone12 model. The decision was published in the Official Gazette of the Union this Tuesday (6), in a process opened by the National Consumer Secretariat (Senacon), in December last year.

For the past two years, Apple has been excluding USB wall warts from new iPhone sales. However, the cost of the phones has not changed to reflect the missing part. Apple has stated that this change was made to combat electronic waste, a real problem. However, the company has refused to move on to the nearly universally accepted USB-C cable as a standard. So instead, we’re still dealing with the more expensive Lightning Connector introduced in 2012.

It is interesting to note that Apple is concerned about the environmental impact of e-waste when the company’s charging cables are notorious for all but disintegrating within a year. I’ve yet to have a single Lightning cable last more than two years before the outer sheath was peeled away and the wires exposed. If the environment is the concern, why hasn’t Apple focused on plant-based materials for these necessary accessories?

In other news, PC Mag reports that Anker Eco Products has developed a USB-C cable that uses plant-based materials for part of the construction. The exterior housing of the cable is made from a mixture of sugarcane and corn. This mixture makes up for 40% of the cable’s outer sheath. Allegedly, Anker says that this material matches the durability of the petroleum-based plastic typically used for these cables and connectors. In reality, it probably is more durable than a charging cable from Apple because the sheath of those things usually gets stripped within the first couple of months of use. Anker claims that these cables are durable, with up to 20,000 bends.

As far as price goes, the cable is comparable to others on the market. A 3′ USB-C to Lightning Cable is $18.99, and the 6′ version is $21.99. USB-C to USB-C is $2 less expensive for both lengths. The exterior of these cables only makes up for a small portion of the overall product. The conductors, connectors, and casings are still made from not-quite-eco-friendly materials.

Anker

  • Bio-Based Design: The exterior of the cable body is built using bio-based materials from plants like corn and sugar cane.
  • Bio-Based and Durable: With a 20,000-bend lifespan, this cable is more than ready to handle the stresses and strains of daily use.
  • Fast Charge Ready: Supports a power output of 100W when paired with a 100W wall charger. (This cable does not support media display.)
  • Wide Compatibility: Meets USB-IF safety standards for flawless compatibility with virtually any USB-C device, including phones, tablets, laptops, and more.

What do you think of Brazil’s decision and the plant-based cables? Let us know below.

The Mecha King Ghidorah S.H.MonsterArts Figure Looks Amazing

0

The King is back! The rebuilt three-headed Mecha King Ghidorah is the latest kaiju to join the S.H.MonsterArts Godzilla line of premium action figures. This version of Godzilla’s longtime foe is based on the Golden King’s appearance in the 1991 film Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah. In the 23rd century, a comatose Ghidora was rebuilt long after his last defeat at the hands of Godzilla. The new and improved King was then sent back to the early 1990s to battle a rampaging Godzilla.

The S.H.MonsterArts Mecha King Ghidorah features a healthy amount of articulation, plus nearly all of the weaponry shown in the film. Sadly, he comes with no blast effects for his middle robot head. He does, however, come with a secondary set of wings that replicate the damage he receives later in the film. The King also commands a kingly sum if pre-ordered from the Big Bad Toy Store. Expect to pay $294.99 for this 9″ tall figure from Bandai Spirits.

Mecha King Ghidora stands tall at an impressive 9.85 and precisely placed ball joints in the neck and tail allow for unrestricted articulation. The machine hand on Ghidorah’s mechanical torso armor is interchangeable and perfect for posing with your favorite classic S.H.MonsterArts Godzilla

I hope Bandai creates a stand that allows you to recreate the scene where Ghidora captures Godzilla and flies him over the ocean. Of course, the scene will be complicated to pull off, but I’m sure Bandai could engineer something.

Mecha King Ghidora comes with the following parts and accessories:

  • Pair of regular wings
  • Pair of damaged wings
  • 5 Mechanical arm parts with stand

What do you think of the figure? Well worth the price tag? Let us know in the comments section below.

The ‘Leaked’ Batgirl Movie Trailer Looks Like Pure Cringe (Because It’s Supposed To.)

0

The trailer for the cancelled Batgirl movie has been “leaked” and now we know exactly why it got cancelled. It’s pure CW cringe that shows exactly why the movie wasn’t just cancelled, but all footage was subsequently purged from the Warner Bros. servers.

Except that it’s not actually the trailer, of course. It’s a deepfake by YouTubers Corridor Digital.

The trailer begins with Gotham being terrorized by Firefly. Commissioner Gordon flashes the Bat Signal into the sky, and the trailer cuts to a cringe-y livestream of Batgirl under the username ‘oracleX019,’ a reference to Barbara Gordon’s other alter ego.

What follows is a hilarious montage of ‘footage’ including Michael Keaton as Batman, Brendon Fraser as an unmasked Firefly, and more. The ‘trailer’ ends with the Warner Bros. (depicted as mobsters) gunning down Batgirl to take a $90 million tax write-off.

There are different stories on why the movie was actually cancelled. The NY Post claimed the film was ‘irredeemably’ bad, and the decision to axe it was a no-brainer. Others claim it really was all about the money, and Warner Bros Discovery CEO David Zaslav wants to pivot away from HBO Max exclusive movies.

It’s unlikely that Batgirl will ever be finished released. However, a cut of the movie was reportedly shown to Warner Bros. employees as sort of a “funeral.” However, Leslie Grace is reportedly still going to play Batgirl going forward, according to Warner Bros. But the Batgirl movie seems very much dead at this point.

Hey, at least we can all have a good laugh at what might have been?
