A Life-size Bust of Ōkami Amaterasu Is Coming Soon!

0

Another week has passed, and First4Figures has announced another statue. However, instead of focusing on Sonic, Zelda, or Castlevania, the collectibles company is returning to the much-beloved game Ōkami. The Sun Goddess in her white wolf form is now available to own as a 26.5″ tall bust.

As with every other time we cover First4Figures statues, there are multiple versions. Thankfully, there are only two this time: the regular and the exclusive. The only thing that separates the two is the implementation of LEDs in the flames and Issun’s bubble. The price difference isn’t all that drastic, either. The regular edition is currently going for $709.99, and the exclusive one is $749.99.

The busts are expected to ship during the first quarter of 2023. The statues measure 26.5″ tall, 16″ wide, and 23″ deep. I’d love to tell you what you need to power up the exclusive edition’s LED effect, but First4Figures failed to put that in the product’s description. Based on previous collectibles we’ve covered, it’s probably a USB-C plug-in (not included).

First 4 Figures is proud to present Okami Amaterasu Life Size Bust. She stands at 26.5 inches tall from the top of Issun’s glowing orb to the rotatable base making for a simply stunning display centerpiece for any Okami fan. Comes in deluxe full-color packaging, hand numbered base and an authenticity card that allows you to purchase the same product number for future pieces in the Okami series.

If you want to replay the 2007 Clover Studio / Capcom classic, check out the HD re-release on XBOX and Playstation. Ōkami is currently $19.99 on both platforms. If that’s not enough, you can also play as Amaterasu in Marvel VS Capcom 3.

DC Comics Announces ‘Superman: Lost’ Miniseries From ‘Batman Vs. Deathstroke’ Writer Christopher Priest

0

Prolific comic book writer Christopher Priest (Vampirella, Justice League, Black Panther) returns to the pages of DC Comics with artist Carlo Pagulayan (Elektra, Wonder Woman, WTC Tribute Book) for the upcoming ten-part series ‘Superman Lost.’ The story will center on Superman returning from a mission only for him to inform his friends that he has been gone for two decades.

DC Comics says on its website,

“After Superman is called away on a routine Justice League mission, Lois Lane awakens to find a complete stranger standing in her living room. The Man of Steel, home much sooner than expected, reveals he has, in fact, been lost in space for 20 years. Nothing and no one seems familiar to him anymore, and the timeless bond between them has been severed…or has it? Can love conquer all? Superman’s 85th-anniversary celebration continues with this all-new blockbuster 10-issue, self-contained series from the creators of the Eisner-nominated Deathstroke series!”

Priest said about the series, “Superman: Lost has been several years in the making and it’s been incredibly difficult for me to keep quiet about this.”

“I am absolutely delighted to be reunited with my Deathstroke team as we explore the emotional toll a tragic loss exacts. A man of steel, from an alien species, is ultimately the most human among us. And finding his way home is only the beginning,” he added.

DC Comics also revealed the first issue cover by Pagulayan and Jason Paz:

The first issue of the limited series is set to debut on March 14th, 2023.

Priest and Pagulayan worked together on the DC Rebirth version of Deathstroke, which included the ‘Batman Vs. Deathstroke’ story arc. In that series, the Dark Knight and the Terminator go head-to-head when Talia al Ghul claims that Damian Wayne is actually the son of Slade Wilson, not Bruce Wayne.

Tubi To Stream Horror Flick ‘Bed Rest’

0

Tubi has struck a deal with STX Films to stream their latest horror film ‘Bed Rest,’ starring Melissa Barrera, who is also a producer for the flick, and directed by Lori Evans Taylor in her feature film directorial debut. The movie’s production was handled by Project X Entertainment and Bondit Media while STX International acquired the distribution rights.

Barrera expressed excitement for the deal, saying in a statement, “As a first-time producer, it is my profound pleasure to be partnering with Tubi to bring BED REST to a savvy and engaged audience.”

“While on the surface, BED REST is a horror film, it is a story that will resonate deeply with anyone who’s experienced grief and been haunted by loss. Lori Evans Taylor has created a deeply emotional journey for audiences, and I’m grateful to my partners at Project X and STX for bringing us together to share this story with the world,” she added.

Besides Barrera (Scream), the movie also stars Guy Burnet (Pitch Perfect 3), Edie Inksetter (Spiral), Sebastian Billingsley-Rodriguez (Love, Guaranteed), Erik Athavale (Sniper: Rogue Mission), Kristen Sawatzky (Todd and the Book of Pure Evil), and Paul Essiembre (The Ice Road).

You can watch the trailer below:

Tubi describes the synopsis as follows,

“After years of struggling to start a family, Julie Rivers (Barrera) is pregnant again and moving into a new home with her husband as they embrace a fresh start. Upon being ordered to mandatory bed rest, Julie begins to slowly unravel as she suffers through the monotony and anxiety of her new constraints. Soon, terrifying ghostly experiences in the home begin to close in on Julie, stirring up her past demons and causing others to question her mental stability. Trapped and forced to face her past, and the supernatural, Julie fights to protect herself and her unborn baby.”

The movie is produced by William Sherak, James Vanderbilt, and Paul Neinstein.

Mister Mxyzptlk Causes Cosmic Chaos In A New Justice League Game

0

We’ve all been waiting for a great Justice League game. With a roster of the world’s finest superheroes and villains, there’s no reason why we haven’t seen more games based on these legends. Well, rejoice, fans, because Outright Games is here to solve that issue with a new game titled Justice League: Cosmic Chaos! Mister Mxyzptlk is on the loose, and it’s up to Wonder Woman, Batman, and Superman to save the day.

Wait. Outright Games? Oh…

The gameplay looks straightforward, which is usually the case for Outright Games. The company has made a series of similar PAW Patrol titles, which weren’t exactly breaking new ground as far as gameplay goes. These titles are for kids first and foremost. Nothing about the art direction for Just League: Cosmis Chaos tells us otherwise. That’s perfectly fine because the game couldn’t be any worse than their last tie-in game, the ultra boring on-rails shooter, DC League of Super-Pets: The Adventures of Krypto and Ace.

Mister Mxyzptlk is a right bastard from the 5th Dimension. He travels through various realities to be a pain in the backside for DC heroes and villains. He’s typically vanquished when he is tricked into saying his name backward.

Unfortunately, we rarely get to see Mister Mxyzptlk in other media. He’s shown up in DC animated TV series from time to time, but he’s yet to make his big-screen debut in the DCEU. His initial appearance was in Superman #30 over 78 years ago. Mxyzptlk was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. Over the years, the character has changed appearances, with his most recognizable incarnation similar to the one seen in our header image. Although, I do like the miniature impish businessman version from the early days. In fact, the same version appeared in the Bruce Timm Superman animated series, voiced perfectly by Gilbert Gottfried.

Are Hasbro’s Ghostbusters Proton Packs Shipping Early?

0

Last December, The HasLab crowdfunding campaign for the Ghostbusters Plasma Series Spengler’s Proton Pack ended successfully. It blew past all stretch goals and raised over $7.6m. Sadly, updates over the past year have been infrequent, and the shipping window remained stuck on the nebulous date of “Spring 2023.” Considering how well the campaign went, I was expecting Hasbro to keep us all up to date more often. But then, out of nowhere, we received some surprising news nearly a year after being fully funded.

Those who backed the Ghostbusters project received an e-mail from HasLab asking us to ensure our shipping info was current by January 1st, 2023. Typically, Hasbro sends these things out within 60 to 90 days before the order ships. So, could this mean we’re getting our hands on the unlicensed nuclear accelerators early?!

I double-checked the Proton Pack’s update page at Hasbro Pulse, but nothing had changed from much earlier in 2022. However, more info was unearthed after some digging, thanks to the fan community. According to insider info obtained by Ghostbusters News, the packs are likely to arrive early, possibly within two months, and almost certainly before Spring. Spring of 2023 starts on March 20th and ends on June 21st. So, at the most, we could be getting our packs five months early. Considering Hasbro is giving backers until New Year’s Day to update their shipping information, I’d reasonably expect the Ghostbusters Plasma Series Spengler’s Proton Pack to leave distribution by the beginning of February.

This is the only HasLab project I’ve ever backed because I was 100% sure it would succeed. Over the last 20+ years, I’ve bought and sold lots of props and replicas, with the most considerable demand being for Proton Packs. The Plasmas Series version’s draw was partly due to Hasbro offering a fully functional prop (wand sold separately). That, combined with the price, made it hard to pass up. The other thing HasLab had in its favor was that only one other company, Mack’s Factory, is officially licensed to sell 1:1 replicas. As far as I can tell, it has yet to release all the parts needed to create a complete replica.

Due to Hasbro’s success here, will it make the Proton Pack available for retail after backers get theirs? What do you think? Let us know below.

Prime Video Series ‘Hunters’ Gets A Second And Final Season

0

The conspiracy drama ‘Hunters’ will make its way back to Prime Video subscribers for a second and final season. Amazon Studios announced that the series will have a brief return after the 2020 first season of ten episodes.

Amazon said in a press release, “Amazon Studios released the new teaser for the second and final season of Hunters, premiering exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide on January 13.”

They continued, “After an accident derails their exploits in Europe, the Hunters must band back together to hunt down history’s most infamous Nazi, Adolf Hitler, who’s hiding in South America. Meanwhile, a look to the past reveals Meyer Offerman (Al Pacino) encountering a dangerous threat that could unravel his secret and expose his true identity, with explosive reverberations for our Hunters.”

Pacino is returning to the series along with fellow castmates Logan Lerman, Jerrika Hinton, Lena Olin, Josh Radnor, Tiffany Boone, Carol Kane, Louis Ozawa, Kate Mulvany, and Greg Austin. Jennifer Jason Leigh is joining the final season cast.

“In celebration of the farewell season, Hunters will also be releasing an official six-episode companion podcast series, Chutzpah: Hunters Presents True Stories of Resistance. Debuting its first three episodes on December 13, the new podcast profiles extraordinary true stories of heroism, resistance, and sacrifice during the Holocaust,” Amazon noted.

You can watch the trailer below:

Wikipedia describes the synopsis as follows,

“The series’ characters draw from a number of real Nazi hunters through the decades, but are not meant to be a specific representation of any of them. It follows a diverse band of Nazi hunters living in 1977 New York City who discover that numerous escaped Nazi officers are conspiring to create a Fourth Reich in the United States. A parallel plot element is the discovery of Operation Paperclip, the U.S. government operation relocating many German scientists (many of them Nazis) to the U.S.”

The show is produced by Monkeypaw Productions and Sonar Entertainment.

MyAnimeList describes the synopsis as follows,

“The quarterfinal round of the Winter Continuous Track Cup is in full swing, and each school is going all out. What started as a furious back-and-forth firefight between Ooarai Girls Academy and Chi-Ha-Tan Academy has become a 12-hour jungle slugfest with neither team having the advantage and almost everyone running on fumes. In spite of this, Miho Nishizumi and her teammates continue to fight into the morning, hoping to land a decisive blow before their rivals.

Meanwhile, Kuromorimine Girls Academy—now led by Erika Itsumi—is struggling in its match against Pravda High School. Taking Maho Nishizumi’s words of advice to heart, Erika manages to break free of Kuromorimine’s rigid, traditional tactics and turn the tide in her favor. At the same time, St. Gloriana Girls College faces off against Anzio High School, while Saunders University High School has a tough fixture with underdog Continuation High School and its mysterious sharpshooter, Jouko.

With only four semifinal spots up for grabs, the members of each team must give their absolute best performance if they want to survive and successfully make it to the next round!”

The TV special was distributed by the Japanese production company Showgate, developed by Tokyo-based animation studio Actas, and directed by Tsutomu Mizushima.

HasLab’s Deathsaurus Transformer Blasts Past All Stretch Goals!

HasLab’s Transformers Generations Deathsaurus has officially passed every stretch goal and added an additional 4,500 backers within a few hours. This morning when I checked the crowdfunding project, it was sitting at 18,339 backers, passing the final stretch goal (A Throned Befitting The Decepticon Emperor) by 1,339 customers. Less than five hours later, I went back to check how things were going, and more than 4k people jumped on. HasLab has raised $4.1m as of writing this story.

This is impressive; there was a lull in the numbers a few weeks ago when the Transformers crowdfunding project was less than half-funded. In addition, there is some evidence that Hasbro may have worried that Deathsaurus may not have hit the needed numbers because only two stretch goals were listed. Typically, we see four or more tiers right out of the gate, sometimes with very lame add-ons being offered (see the Egon Spengler journal for the Proton Pack campaign).

Transformers Generations HasLab Deathsaurus

Who would have thought this piece of Japanese Transformers canon would have gone over so well? Those who backed the Victory Saber project sure did. The number of backers for Deathsaurus is quickly catching up to Victory Saber’s 26,211 backers.

So, why did the H.I.S.S., Deathsaurus, Proton Pack, and Victory Saber succeed where projects like Reeva’s lightsaber and the Rancor failed? First off, no one cared about Reeva. She was a character who came out of nowhere, and the fanbase had zero previous familiarity with her. It also didn’t help that the lightsaber replica was overpriced. The Rancor was also in the same category as far as price was concerned. The toy itself looked OK for a render. However, paying over $300 for a single character with a cheap cardboard backdrop isn’t a smart buy. Hasbro also made the silly mistake of throwing in reissued Black Series figures to pad out the lackluster stretch goals.

In short, don’t treat the fans like cash cows. Sure, they’ll back expensive projects, but what’s being delivered needs to be well worth that price tag.

Marty! You’ve Gotta Buy ‘Back To The Future’ Toys With Me!

0

It has been 33 years since Back to the Future Part II looked at the then-far-off year of 2015. Yet, here it is, the end of 2022, and we’re still waiting for flying cars and hoverboards. Sure, the inflation rate is about right; remember Biff’s $174.50 cab fare? Well, for double the price of taking a taxi from Hill Valley to Hilldale, you can own two YARMS vinyl figures!

Mighty Jaxx announced two new vinyl art figures based on Doctor Emmit Brown and Marty McFly in the year 2015. Doc and Marty as sold as a $349 set. Sadly, you cannot pick these up individually. Marty stands 7.5″ tall, while Doc Brown is 8″ tall. For more YARMS collectibles, check out the studio’s Twitter and Instagram.

Guess who’s back—back to the future? Marty and Doc make their return to Mighty Jaxx in their iconic Part 2 outfits! Sculpted in the style of YARMS Studio, they hold memorabilia important to the second movie: a copy of the Grays Sports Almanac and the futuristic hoverboard. Will they be able to fix the timeline? Or will the butterfly effect of their actions lead the world down a darker path? Join the time-traveling action with Back to the Future Part 2 x YARMS!

Although the figures are simplistic, the detail is impressive. It’s hard to see from the pictures Mighty Jaxx has up, but the hoverboard’s top is mostly screen accurate, but it’s missing that iconic Mattel starburst logo. Gray’s Sports Almanac looks like it was lifted right from the film, including the small text banner on the book’s cover. Not bad. I think it weird that both characters look like they’re praying to the material goods they have in their hands.

Pick Your Favorite Hulk With Queen Studios’ New 1/4 Scale Statues

0

Queen Studios has revealed three new massive statues based on various incarnations of Marvel Comics’ The Incredible Hulk.

Yeah, these statues are enormous. Each one is the same scale and measures 26″ tall, 28″ deep, and 25″ wide. The estimated delivery date for these three is during the fourth quarter of 2023. However, unless Queen Studios adds these gamma rage beasts to the partnership with Sideshow Collectibles, they’ll only be available to fans in Brazil, Indonesia, Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, and South Korea. Sigh.

If you happen to be in one of those countries mentioned above, the edition size of each variation is pretty tiny. For example, classic Hulk will be limited to 299 pieces, Red Hulk is 199, and Mr. Fixit is very limited, coming in at only 99 statues.

This 1/4 scale Hulk statue is inspired by Marvel Comics, The Incredible Hulk #621 “God Smash (Part One)” illustrated by Paul Pelletier. This statue stands 67cm tall and captures the Hulk Mid-smash. Smoke rushes off the Incredible Hulk as he grasps the debris around him. Flying debris surrounds the Hulks body, in front of his feet lies the helmet of Loki, the God of Mischief.

After the success and glowing feedback of our Marvel Comic’s Green Scar Hulk 1/4 Statue, Queen Studios have extended the Hulk Comic collection with this 1/4 scale statue. Crafted from resin, every detail seen in comic cover art has been recreated in stunning detail.

What I find interesting is the cost of the 1/4 statues. Queen Studios only wants $460 for one. Over the past two years, we’ve seen even small collectibles shoot up past this price point by 3x. Maybe it’s a currency conversion issue in China? Either way, why are fans getting gouged in the US?
