UPDATE: Hasbro’s Ghostbusters Proton Pack Problems Solved By Fans

0

UPDATE:

We asked Hasbro Pulse on January 16th about the missing “chrome brushed” decals. Through e-mail, the company bounced us around a couple of different people with no resolution. However, we got a response through Twitter as of today, February 14th. It wasn’t exactly what we wanted to hear:

So, the advertised stretch goal item was changed during production, and Hasbro is investigating it. This doesn’t tell me if the issue is going to be fixed for those of us who plopped down $399 for a Proton Pack. While decals sound like a minor issue, telling backers they’re going to get a very specific type of unlock only to deliver something we could print at home for less than a couple of dollars shows me that Hasbro is not dedicated to holding up their end of a deal.

I followed up with Hasbro, asking if the company will send out the correct decals, but I have not heard back.

The original story continues below.

In our review of the Hasbro Ghostbusters Plasma Series Spengler’s Proton Pack, we mentioned that one of the stretch goals included “custom 1984 decals with a brushed chrome look.” Unfortunately, what backers ended up getting were standard decals on glossy paper with no metallic shine whatsoever. These were no better than something you could print at home.

Of course, Hasbro has an out with small print that says, “FINAL PRODUCT MAY VARY.” Considering this was part of the first stretch goal, it’s not a good look to send out cheap decals when we are told something different would be included.

The stickers already applied to the pack by Hasbro also lack the metallic look. Was this a cost-cutting move the company hoped no one would notice? It’s bad enough that all of the Afterlife decals were already stuck to the Proton Pack because if you want to replace them with the ’84 versions, it will be a chore.

Additionally, our pack suffered from either faulty wiring in the hose or a bad connector which would cause the Ghostbusters Proton Pack to shut off if the hose was bumped lightly or moved in general while wearing the replica unlicensed nuclear accelerator. This issue was also documented by a backer who received theirs from Zavvi. Other backers also mentioned the hose problem along with other power issues on Reddit.

We contacted Hasbro a couple of days after our review via e-mail and Twitter for comment. HasLab responded with an automatically generated ticket saying someone would get back to us. Unfortunately, as of publishing this article, we’ve not heard from Hasbro.

As far as the pack itself goes, I still stand by my praise. For $399, you do get a beautiful full-sized replica with lights and sounds. However, Hasbro did promise certain things, and the company either didn’t deliver or failed during the QC process.

There is a temporary fix, which involves adding a small amount of electrical tape to the connector. Check it out below:

Other backers have also noticed that the pack shuts off quickly, even with new batteries and the rumble motor turned off. We got roughly 30-45 seconds of runtime in Afterlife and ’84 modes. This isn’t ideal for wearing this replica to a convention. We tried multiple combinations of settings to get the lights to stay on longer, and nothing worked. Thankfully, modders have already started to solve this issue, but it may be beyond what most people are willing to do. These modifications include adding rechargeable batteries and rewiring the system:

In other news, whoever did the artwork for Egon’s journal allegedly lifted an image from an unofficial Ghostbusters source. Bob Moseley from Bob’s Prop Shop noticed that a “sketch” of the Ecto-1 found in the journal might have been sourced from a photo of one of his custom-made replica vehicles. Æon Flux Lives Again As A Premium Statue From PCS

Peter Chung’s slender, acrobatic, and deadly assassin from the city of Monica has returned to the collectibles market thanks to Premium Collectibles Studio. The animated icon is back, and she’s gunning for your wallet! This Æon Flux costs $1,250.

Although expensive, Aeon Flux more than makes up for it in design and size. Miss Flux’s diorama stands 39.5″ tall, and the base is about 17″ in diameter. It features the leather-clad anarchist slinking down for the kill shot. Unfortunately, the 1:3 scale sculpture is limited to only 400 pieces.

Could a Trevor Goodchild statue be on the way as a companion piece? Let’s hope so. In the meantime, the flexible Aeon Flux will nimbly make her way into collectors’ homes between August and October of this year. She can be pre-ordered through Sideshow Collectibles.

The Aeon Flux Statue is fully sculpted and highly detailed to transform the iconic style of the animated MTV series into a three-dimensional collectible figure. Her costume features a glossy purple paint application to recreate the tight top, harnesses, and thigh-high boots. Aeon Flux has a muscled physique, and her signature swooping hairstyle frames the fearless and determined expression on her portrait.

Æon Flux, the iconic animated shorts, and the eventual series were the main reasons I kept tuning into MTV. But should an eleven-year-old kid be watching Liquid Television and a barely clothed assassin? Nope. This was before the V-Chip. Good times.

It’s too bad that the only revival Aeon Flux got was a 2005 movie with a miscast Charlize Theron in the lead role. Peter Chung was not too pleased with the Hollywood-ized version of his work. The franchise was underutilized during the height of its popularity, with a PlayStation video game being in the works but never released. All I can remember was an advertisement in a physical gaming magazine.

There are still talks of the Æon Flux universe resurfacing. Still, given what we’ve seen with adaptations on streaming services recently, I fear how modern Hollywood would try to tame the citizens of Monica and Bregna further.

Meet The Playable Killer Klowns In This Character Teaser

0

Killer Klowns From Outer Space: The Game is the only title I’m genuinely looking forward to this year. I’m a sucker when it comes to horror movie-based games. So the fact that I can finally cause chaos with a cotton candy gun just makes me giddy. But which Klowns can we choose from?

Thanks to a newly released video from Good Shepherd Entertainment, we know how many alien invaders are playable and what role they serve in the player-vs-player title. Most of the core Killer Klowns from the cult classic movie are present, and each evil extraterrestrial has a specific class. Here’s the breakdown:

Rudy – Trapster (with cotton candy gun)

Spikey – Tracer (with a popcorn gun)

Jumbo – Scout (with a mallet)

Shorty – Fighter (of course!)

Fatso – Tank (with an unidentifiable weapon stuck to his right hand)

Slim, for whatever reason, is not one of the five types of playable Klowns. Bibbo, Jojo, and the female Klowns are also not missing from the roster. They may be unique characters, like the Evil Ash or Henrietta in Evil Dead: The Game.

An exact release date has not yet been determined, but Teravision Games and Good Shepherd Entertainment are aiming for this year. Hopefully, in the near future, we’ll have an interview with the game’s score composer John Massari.

Killer Klowns From Outer Space: The Game can now be added to your Steam wishlist. The cross-platform multiplayer game pits humans VS clowns in a manner similar to what we saw with the Friday the 13th and Evil Dead games.

Plan your own alien invasion and harvest humans as the iconic Killer Klowns, or gather a team of survivors to fight the extraterrestrial threat, in a game based on the ’80s cult classic movie. Welcome to a new, craazzy take on the asymmetrical multiplayer horror experience!

The Dark Knight’s Bane Gets A Hot Toys Release

Bane, the villain born in darkness, is coming to Hot Toys line of premium 1/6 scale collectible figures. The latest Dark Knight figure features Tom Hardy’s likeness (what you can see of it) and an impressive amount of detail on his tactical gear. So now you can recreate that iconic scene where Bane gave Batman a bit of a backache.

Pre-orders for Bane have not started yet, but the figure is expected to arrive during the first half of 2024.

Bane will come with the following:

– New specialized muscular body with over 20 points of articulations displays detailed muscle and scar textures
– Inner metal skeleton with enhanced articulation range
– Seamless design from neck to arms
– Advance body structure
– Eight (8) pieces of interchangeable hands including:
– One (1) pair of fists
– One (1) pair of relaxed hands
– One (1) pair of accessory holding hands
– One (1) pair of gesture hands
– Each piece of head sculpt is specially hand-painted

Costume:
– One (1) brown coat
– One (1) brown jacket
– One (1) green combat vest
– One (1) pair of dark grey military pants with knee pads
– One (1) brown glove for right hand
– One (1) pair of dark green combat boots

Accessories:
– One (1) Batman’s shattered cowl
– A specially designed city sewer diorama figure stand with character backdrop

Christopher NNolan’sversion of Bane departs drastically from the comic book vvillain’sbackstory. Rather than being born in a South American prison and strengthened by a super steroid known as Venom, The Dark Knight Rises simplified things. In a way, that acted as a negative. In the Knightfall saga, Bane systematically broke the Bat first by creating a massive crime wave.

Batman was in a non-stop battle against almost every one of his famous foes, thanks to Bane blowing a hole in Arkham Asylum. Eventually, Bane learned of BBatman’ssecret identity, broke into the Batcave, and quickly snapped an exhausted BBatman’sspine.

We ddon’tget much of a backstory for NNolan’sBane; aside from that, he, too, escaped from prison (The Pit) but was disfigured by fellow prisoners and required a breathing apparatus around his head. Rather than acting on his behalf to break the Batman, he was part of the League of Shadows and sort of a do-boy for Talia al Ghul.

Make It ‘Big’ With New Wave Toys’ Zoltar Replica

Hey! You wanna be big? I mean BIG. Then get yourself a Zoltar machine. Oh, and a gym membership. Also, lots of protein and a nutritionist. What? You thought a robotic fortune teller would make you an Adonis, like me, magically? Pish.

However, if you do want to make a wish but don’t have a full-size Zoltar in a cabinet, you’re in luck because New Wave Toys has announced their latest 1/6 scale replica is none other than the legendary fortune teller!

Sadly, this Zoltar is based on the type typically seen at arcades and carnivals rather than the version appearing in BIG. It would not be easy to replicate the coin ramp mechanic on a 1/6 scale; I get it. Regardless of it not being that Zoltar, the replica does have all the hallmarks of the familiar machine. Zoltar’s head, mouth, eyes, and hands move. The crystal ball lights up. He speaks. And New Wave has added a feature not found in their previous scaled-down cabinets.

Unlike New Wave’s previous 1/6 scale arcade machine replicas, Zoltar will work if you insert the included mini-coins. Not only that, but the mystical teller will also dole out fortune cards, just like the full-size version! Thankfully, New Wave Toys understands that Zoltar doesn’t have the same replayability of an arcade cabinet like Dragon’s Lair or 1942. So, they’ve priced this guy at $99.99.

The Zoltars are expected to arrive sometime during the fourth quarter of 2023.

Although it is still a work in progress, New Wave Toys is aiming at the Zoltar replica having the following features:

  • Accurate Replica of Deluxe Zoltar Speaks in 1/6 Scale (12.2in tall)
  • Fully Animated Head, Eyes, Talking & Arm
  • Mini-Coin Operated & Free Play Button Activated
  • Speaks All 16x Recorded Messages
  • Fortune Card Dispenser  with All  55x Fortunes Included
  • Attract Mode
  • Hand Painted & Quality Built with Premium Materials
  • Reproduction LED Cabinet Lighting Featuring Multi Color Changing Ball
  • Mini Faux Power Cord
  • Collector Quality Packaging  & Unboxing
  • Officially licensed by Characters Unlimited
  • 100-Day New Wave Factory Warranty
  • (1) USB-C power cable
  • (55) Mini Zoltar Fortune Cards
  • (8) Mini Metal Arcade Tokens

It’s Spike VS Vicious In These New ‘Cowboy Bebop’ Statues

0

It feels like years since we covered Cowboy Bebop. The real deal, not the Netflix travesty. In fact, the last time a new Cowboy Bebop collectible showed up on our radar was when the Swordfish II model kit was announced in 2021. So let’s fix that by talking about five new statues based on the beloved anime!

It’s Spike VS Vicious in this 12″ tall, 25″ wide diorama from First4Figures!

In typical First4Figures fashion, Spike and Vicious can be purchased via multiple different editions. If you want the complete duel diorama with a few extras, the Last Stand Definitive Edition will cost you $549.99. However, if you’re going to get only one of the characters or don’t care about all the frills, the Standard Editions are a little less expensive.

Or, if you prefer, Spike and Vicious can be picked up separately in either Standard or Exclusive Editions. The main difference being the swappable interchangeable heads are only available on the Exclusive versions. Check out the price breakdown below on the five available statues:

Pre-orders are happening now, and the expected ship date is sometime during the first quarter of 2024.

If you do decide to pick up the Definitive Edition, here’s what comes in the box:

  • High-Quality Resin Diorama of Spike and Vicious
  • Dynamic Poses as they appeared in the final episode, The Real Folk Blues (Part 2)
  • Elevated Base Design of the Red Dragon Crime Syndicate headquarters
  • Red Dragon Crime Syndicate companion relief sculpture
  • Interchangeable Heads with different facial expressions and additional blood effects
  • Blood Splatter out of the wounds in both Spike and Vicious
  • Limited Edition Numbering
  • Authentication Card

Hey, remember when Netflix totally forgot what people loved about the anime and gave us a “for modern audiences” take on Cowboy Bebop? I bet you forgot all about that cluster, didn’t you? Well, now you can watch this famous scene back-to-back with the terrible Netflix take!

Review: Star Wars: The Bad Batch Season 2 Ep. 1 to 4 – The Squad is Back In Town

The first season of Star Wars: The Bad Batch introduced viewers to the fallout of Order 66 and the immediate aftereffects of The Clone Wars. It was like a direct sequel to The Clone Wars Season 7, for better or worse. Not only did we get a new group of characters to follow within the Star Wars galaxy, but went on new adventures that were fresh but familiar to many of us already immersed in a galaxy far, far away. Season 2 of The Bad Batch follows up a short time after the events of the Season 1 finale, reuniting us with Clone Force 99 and Omega as they try to make a way for themselves in a changing galaxy under the rule of The Empire.

Right from the start, the first four episodes of Season 2 show a lot of good things going well for the series. Despite the lukewarm reception of Season 1 by viewers, The Bad Batch has managed to tell a lot of interesting stories that are fun to follow, while also building up the lore of Star Wars as a whole. The first two episodes act as one complete story, taking the team to the planet of Serreno and thrusting them into a mission that gives a heavy nod to The Clone Wars.

Hunter, Omega, and the squad need to get a shipment from the abandoned war chest of Count Dooku, located in Dooku’s palace. The squad ends up getting into a lot of trouble with the Imperial force located on the planet, while also coming into contact with a citizen of Count Dooku’s former home, giving them, and us the viewers, insight into how bad things got during the Clone Wars and during the rise of the Empire. It’s through all of this we see how much the relationship between Omega and Clone Force 99 has grown, with the clones seeing her as both a squad mate and family. Hunter may act like the fatherly figure to Omega, but both he and the whole squad are still her clone brothers. They help and back each other up when it counts, and we see the emotions they feel when things get dire. A lot of your enjoyment of the series will depend on either your love of these characters or the deep-cut fan service that compliments their story.

Speaking of which, there’s a lot of fan service scattered throughout the episodes. Luckily for everyone, it’s not gratuitous but rather handled in a tasteful way that makes sense when it needs to and expands different aspects of Star Wars lore. A lot of designs for various parts of ships, trooper outfits, and other background objects get a lot of inspiration from Star Wars concept arts, often based on the original trilogy, as well as elements from The Clone Wars not highlighted often. You may not notice everything the first time you watch the episodes, but you’ll be surprised at what you’ll find when you go back and look. Star Wars fans that love their easter eggs will have plenty to enjoy throughout.

But does that mean the stories being told in Season 2 suffer from it? Absolutely not, as is the case with the third episode of the season. Episode 3, titled “The Solitary Clone”, is focused on Crosshair and his time working for the Empire. Not only do we get a deep look at how things are going from within the rise of the Empire, but we also get echoes of the past with the inclusion of Commander Cody, the same clone who worked alongside Obi-Wan Kenobi during the Clone Wars and betrayed him during Order 66.

This episode will be deep for some because it not only shows how things have changed after the Empire takes control of the galaxy but details how some of the clones have questioned Order 66. What will make this episode a highlight of the season is the dichotomy of peaceful and aggressive solutions to how the Empire is handling things with each planet it occupies. The action is great and the deep cuts from The Clone Wars will make fans super happy at how well it blends everything up to this point for the series and the Star Wars franchise as a whole. How it ends will not be too shocking for those who have been following the series from the start, but it will remain very impactful nonetheless for everyone.

The fourth episode of Season 2 is more of a filler episode that takes Omega, Tech, and Wrecker to the planet Safa Toma. While Hunter and Echo are on a separate away mission, the group accompanies Cid to the planet for a racing event where she can earn extra credits.

The racing we see is called Riot Racing, which is a little different from the well-known pod racing from the Star Wars prequels. Racers can fire weapons at each other on the track and use other hazards to gain an edge against the competition, kind of like the Star Wars version of Mario Kart in some ways. While there aren’t a lot of big things that the episode gives to affect the series as a whole, it does plant a seed of doubt in Omega, Wrecker, and Tech about Cid and her motivations. How this will affect the rest of the series is anybody’s guess, but it’s known that there’s much more to Cid than what she lets on.

Up to now, Star Wars: The Bad Batch Season 2 is looking to deliver great things while promising more excitement over the rest of the show. While there’s much more explanation needed for how the squad fits into the big events going on in the galaxy, there seems to be a lot of setup for answers later on. Though there’s been a lot of fan service scattered in multiple episodes, no signs of a big cameo or appearance from a major Star Wars character is known. For now, how the show is building up its characters and telling fun stories is much more beneficial, indicating a direction for how this series will shape up to be in its second season.

Are you watching Star Wars: The Bad Batch every week, or did you watch all of the first season? Ready for more great Star Wars content to come soon? Post a comment down below and let us know your thoughts!

Microsoft To Cut 10,000 Jobs During The 2023 Fiscal Year

0

Microsoft‘s CEO Satya Nadella announced today via a blog post that the company would eliminate 10,000 positions. Unfortunately, the areas affected were not listed. So, we’re unsure which divisions were affected the most or if this was evenly spread throughout the entire workforce. Microsoft referred to this move as “a reduction of our overall workforce.”

Rumors are circulating that recently acquired studios like Bethesda were affected, but there’s no direct evidence at the time of writing this to tell for sure. We know that the cost-cutting measures will take place through until the third quarter of 2023’s fiscal year. MS added a silver lining: the company plans to hire personnel for “key strategic areas.” What areas are those? Unknown.

This decision, if Nadella is to be believed, is to help restructure the company to meet the changing demands of customers. The CEO says that the new habits of the customer base are employing result in them doing “more with less” regarding digital goods. I’m not sure what this means regarding MS products, but it could relate to people using Office 365 subscriptions on multiple computers rather than buying individual licenses for each.

As mentioned by the CEO, other possible culprits are a global recession and technological changes. Is the company falling behind in the market? Microsoft seems to be using these layoffs to prepare for dips in sales, and it must invest funds to stay relevant in the tech world.

Imagine reading a memo from the company you work for, and you reach the end of the following statement:

“Today, we are making changes that will result in the reduction of our overall workforce by 10,000 jobs through the end of FY23 Q3. This represents less than 5 percent of our total employee base, with some notifications happening today.”

I hope those employees MS laid off this week got their notices before this memo went live. According to Nadella, those being let go have 60 days’ notice, even in states or countries that do not require such “niceties.” While being fired from a large faceless corporation can be a pain, Microsoft is attempting to feign care for its soon-to-be ex-employees. Those made redundant will receive “above-market severance pay” and six months of healthcare coverage.

Review: The Last of Us HBO Series Premiere – Adapting It Right

Video game adaptations into movies and television shows haven’t had the best reception. A lot of this is due to creative liberties being taken and limitations being placed on the creators of those adaptations for one reason or another. The biggest thing that fans of video games want to see is that an adaptation has a reverence for the source material and a visible respect for what made those games so interesting. Luckily the team behind the HBO show The Last of Us, an adaptation of the game with the same name, is doing what everyone wanted. Naughty Dog, the dev team behind the game, is involved with the show’s creation, along with Neil Druckmann, the creator of The Last of Us story and world. What we get from this collaboration is a solid first step into a show with many intriguing aspects that will keep everyone coming back to watch more.

If it wasn’t already obvious, the first episode of The Last of Us show does a great job of rendering the post-apocalyptic world of the game to the screen. The first episode gives audiences key info on why things are going so badly, as well as showcasing some of the big moments that are pulled directly from the game.

We’re introduced to Joel and his daughter Sarah before things go south, giving everyone a view of the normal life that is taken away from everyone in a devastating fashion. What seems like a normal birthday at one moment quickly becomes a change in the quality of life, making for some great drama. You don’t just see the devastation and its effects over time, you can see how burdening it becomes on Joel.

But while the events of the game are translated very well, the show gives everyone more backstory and other elements to complement this. Moments like the very start of the show are different from the game, where audiences are given a foreboding conversation of what can and will happen, given the right circumstances. It’s not something the game had or needed to do but it’s a fresh new element that doesn’t overshadow the big parts of the game, rather enhancing them greatly. There are other moments in the episode that do something similar, but for different reasons. It helps a lot for people who have not played the game but are still able to get all the important details that one would get from exploring the world of The Last of Us game.

And what about the characters and the actors that play them, are they great adaptations as well? Simply put, yes they are. Pedro Pascal does a solid job of being Joel, flowing through the range of emotions from when we first see him to where he ends up by the end of the episode. He is a man scarred by tragedy and time with a viciousness that can be turned on very easily, and Pedro makes it work out beautifully. At the same time when we finally get to meet Ellie, played by Bella Ramsey, she has the same wit and attitude directly from the game. Ellie is going to play a very big role throughout the season, but the short time we spend with her is filled with a lot of intriguing details and tough moments. Her relationship with Joel is the foundation of the game, and it’s looking to be done justice in this series adaptation.

The rest of the cast handles their characters very well, building up the world of The Last of Us and promising more to come as the season goes on. We get to see the Fireflies and FEDRA military organization in good detail, with all of their harsh realities on full display for both sides. It’s a very harsh world that Joel and Ellie find themselves in, where everyone is hurting and on the verge of either death or insanity. Anna Torv plays Tess, Joel’s partner, and is equal parts clever and broken while trying to survive. She does a great job interacting with Joel when things happen to them and forces the pair into alternating their plans during the episode.

Gabriel Luna plays Tommy and is the one we see the least out of everyone, only being present in a big way at the start during the beginning of the story. He will definitely return in more episodes and will have more interactions with Joel eventually. Merle Dandridge plays the commander of the Fireflies, Marlene, and is also a great part of the episode. While she will most likely appear again during the season, we get some good moments in her interactions with Ellie and Joel that are brief.

The only part of the premiere episode we’ve yet to see a lot from is the Infected. These are the people who have been infected by the spores that are present in the world of The Last of Us, causing the downfall of everything. After a slow buildup, we get to see some Infected before the episode focuses on other things going on with our main cast. The Infected are definitely the looming threat of the show, as they are in the game, but the show is going to spread their appearances throughout the season. Unlike in the game where you can encounter Infected as you play, their appearance of them will have more weight and suspense in the show. Based on trailers that were released before the premiere, there are going to be some big moments with the Infected that fans of the game will love. Whether the show will alter or completely change anything about them has yet to be determined.

The premiere episode for The Last of Us is a great pilot for what can be a very well-made show. Anyone that was worried about elements of the game not being done well can relax for now. The characters you know are here and portrayed well, and so is the atmosphere you know from the game. If the creators of the show can keep this momentum going for the next few episodes, then The Last of Us may be on the right track to being one of the better video game adaptations we have seen in a long time.

Have you gotten a chance to watch The Last of Us on HBO? Do you think the season will turn out to be a success? Post a comment with your thoughts down below and let us know!

I Pity The Fool Who Doesn’t Buy Clubber Lang’s Statue!

0

I mean, if you’ve got $1,300 sitting around, why wouldn’t you spend it on a 1:3 scale statute of Mr. T as Rocky Balboa’s rival Clubber Lang? PCS has once again created a knockout recreation of an iconic character. This may be one of the greatest Clubber collectibles ever made, from Mr. T’s signature mohawk down to the determined stare. And it should be for that price.

Lang stands 27″ tall and is decked out in the blue boxers he wore when he first fought Rocky Balboa and stripped him of his title. The statue also comes with a towel and robe, complete with “Clubber Lang South Side Slugger” stitched on the back. The robe comes with a separate stand. The statue is expected to ship between June and August of this year. It can be pre-ordered through Sideshow Collectibles.

Clubber Lang, in my opinion, was Rocky Balboa’s meanest opponent. The antagonist of Rocky III didn’t care about Balboa, nor did he harbor any ill will toward the Italian Stallion. Clubber only wanted to keep what was his: the world heavyweight champion title. The character was perfect for Mr. T and his no-nonsense attitude. In the man’s words, “I don’t hate Balboa. I pity the fool, and I will destroy any man who tries to take what I got!

I like the touch of having the base Clubber stands on being Rocky’s black and yellow Italian Stallion logo. The only thing I hope gets fixed when this ships is the blue color used on Clubber’s boxers. It’s way too light. In the film, they were a darker blue, matching the stripes on his socks.
