Judge Dredd Returns As An Exquisite Super Series 6″ Figure

Hiya Toys is moving Judge Dredd from a 1:18 scale up to 1:12 with the announcement of a new 6″ figure. The future lawman from the 2000 AD comics is an upgrade from the smaller toys. This one features a fabric uniform with a functional zipper.

Hopefully, the material used for his suit allows for posing. Regardless, the navy-colored material looks promising.

Dredd can be pre-ordered from Hiya Toys or the Big Bad Toy Store. He’s priced at $89.99 and is slated to ship during the fourth quarter of this year.

An interesting inclusion in Judge Dredd’s arsenal is a can of Boing. The “miracle plastic” was used to help seal away Judge Anderson when she psychically captured Judge Death inside her mind.

You can equip Joe with the classic Mk1 Lawgiver for fans of the older Judge Dredd comics. However, it is not as detailed as the included Mk2 version.

One of the world’s most famous comic book characters, Judge Dredd, has been patrolling the mean streets of Mega-City for forty-five years, and this dynamic and fully poseable figure perfectly captures his iconic look. These hyper-detailed figures feature all-new accessories and materials, including interchangeable heads and hands, and fabric clothing.

  • 4 Head sculpts
  • 5 Pairs of hands
  • 2 Pistols
  • Daystick
  • Boing spray
  • 2 Blast effects
  • Smoke effect
  • Stand

We’ve been covering Hiya Toys Judge Dredd figures for a while. I received the classic Dredd, an impressive 1:18 scale toy, this past Christmas. There’s a lot of detail, but the articulation was lacking. That’s a common issue with toys based on the Judges. Their shoulder armor is cumbersome and not friendly when posing the character.

I had pre-ordered Judge Caligula over a year ago and was recently notified that my purchase was canceled. That’s odd since Hiya Toys says the eccentric, insane, and dangerous Judge is “in stock,” according to the company’s website.

‘Star Trek Regeneration’ Sees A Familiar Face Visiting Kirk’s Grave

0

The Roddenberry Archive is a project recreating iconic scenes, locations, and ships of Star Trek. In the ongoing journey to preserve Gene Roddenberry’s creations, OTOY has created amazingly detailed CGI works of art. One of the most recent examples takes us back to the first Star Trek: The Next Generation movie.

The video, titled 765874 – Regeneration, sees a Star Fleet recovery team on Veridian III preparing to lift the U.S.S. Enterprise 1701-D’s crashed saucer section from the planet. In the distance, atop the rocky mountain area where Captains James Kirk and Jean-Luc Picard stopped Dr. Tolian Soran, a cloaked figure recovers Kirk’s Star Fleet insignia.

The mysterious person turns, lowers their hood, and it is revealed to be Spock. Looking like he stepped right out of the mid-1990s; the CGI used to recreate him is mindblowing. The scene then cuts back to an even younger Spock from The Original Series. Finally, the scene fades to black, with the number 765874 appearing on the screen.

Could this be a teaser for James T. Kirk’s resurrection in some future Star Trek Paramount+ show? Possibly. In the last season of Picard, we discover Kirk’s body has been recovered and may be in stasis. If the NuTrek could do anything to redeem itself more, it would be to give the U.S.S. Enterprise captain a better send-off than what we got in Star Trek: Generations:

For more Star Trek news, click here.

I checked out the Archive, and it was interesting to see the various detailed bridges. However, I would like to see the 1701-D project resurrected. This fan-made interactive experience would have allowed users to explore a huge chunk of the Star Trek freely: The Next Generation ship.

Should Kirk come back? Would trying to draw out Kirk’s presence in the original timeline be a mistake? Let us know what you think.

Zelda’s Adventure CDi Game Gets Remade into Game Boy Port

The Legend of Zelda is a gaming series with many hit releases across different Nintendo platforms that are considered iconic. At the same time, even the Zelda series isn’t impervious to having a few big misses in its portfolio. Some of those missteps for the series happened on one of the worst game consoles of all time, the Philips CD-i. But one of the forgotten games from Zelda’s past may have been saved from purgatory and remade into a Game Boy port.

Zelda’s Adventure, a long-forgotten Zelda game that isn’t tied to the main series by Nintendo, has gotten a Game Boy port released on Itch.io by one indie developer named John Lay. On April 29th, John released the port of Zelda’s Adventure online, which caught the attention of many Zelda fans for how he approached remaking what was universally considered a terrible Zelda game. The port was made using GB Studio, with music composed by retro music composer Beastscribe.

The port of the game is done in a similar style as The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening for the Game Boy Color. The original game was made as a side scroller and not developed by Nintendo, so it looks very different compared to the Zelda games of that era. So in keeping with the traditional visual style of the series and in a similar form to The Legend of Zelda Oracle games, John decided to go with that approach.

On his website, John gave some insight into how he made the game and his reasoning behind the port. “Zelda’s Adventure looked interesting and I thought it would be fun to play on a portable system. I chose the Game Boy because of the existing Zelda games on the system. The game sticks to the aesthetics of Link’s Awakening but also incorporates some features from Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons. This is a complete port of the CD-i original and was developed in GB Studio, with a few modifications…I hope you enjoy playing the game as much as enjoyed making it.”

Zelda’s Adventure was originally released for the CD-i back in 1994. It was a game that mixed up the Zelda formula at the time, putting players in control of Princess Zelda as she tries to save Link from the forces of the evil Ganon. The game was universally panned by critics at the time and retroactively over the years by fans, as well as being disowned by Nintendo completely.

It’s possible that this remade version of the game, done in the same way as better Zelda games of the time, might expose Zelda fans to a part of the franchise’s history that could have turned out very differently. Anyone that was looking to play John’s Game Boy port of Zelda’s Adventure can do so through the Itch.io page.

Fortnite Brings in Star Wars Prequels Collaboration for May the 4th

Fortnite is one of the biggest online games in the world, with millions of players regularly getting on to play matches with others. It’s a game that gets continuously updated with new content and big collaborations with a variety of major brands and franchises. So it’s not surprising to see more content from a galaxy far, far away make it into Fortnite in a significant way. Star Wars fans may want to dive back into the game for a few surprising additions.

Just in time for May 4th, or May The 4th as it’s known to Star Wars fans, Fortnite players will be able to play as a few new characters from the Star Wars prequel trilogy. The official Fortnite blog shared details of the announcement to players.  Starting now, players can access the “Find the Force” content that allows them to play as Anakin Skywalker, Padme Amidala, or Darth Maul online. Also included are skins for a 501st Clone Trooper and 212th Battalion Trooper that players can equip upon unlocking. There’s even an alternate version of Padme’s outfit from the Battle of Geonosis. But that’s not all that comes with the new Star Wars content for the game.

A collection of twelve quests for the crossover event rewards players with new cosmetics as well, including an extra Clone Trooper outfit and the opportunity to get a Sith Holocron upon completing all of the new quests. When players collect three Sith Holocrons, they can unlock Darth Maul’s Sith Infiltrator Glider. The new quests will go live in the game periodically, starting on May 7th, continuing on May 12th, and finishing on May 17th. Each quest will be titled “Begun the Clone Wars Have”, “Fall of the Republic”, and “The First Galactic Empire” respectively as they are released.

This Star Wars X Fornite collaboration also comes with a new mini Battle Pass, which has a premium reward track that cost 1,000 V-bucks/$8.00 to unlock. This can yield extra rewards as you play the game online, allowing players to get even more cosmetics and other items. Purchasing the track also immediately gives players a Coruscant Guard outfit to use.

The final reward on the track is the Darth Maul outfit, so you’ll have to get the premium track in order to look like the infamous Sith lord while you play. Another few rewards included there are the outfits for a Wolf Pack clone trooper and Ahsoka’s clone trooper outfit, as well as other smaller Star Wars-themed rewards. Fortnite players will need to play enough to find and earn most of the rewards if they want to show off their love for Star Wars to everyone online.

While in-game during the collaboration event, players will gain the ability to use various Star Wars weapons and abilities. This includes using The Force in different ways, wielding a lightsaber until the match ends, and even shooting a DC-15 blaster that can be found in chests during games. For anyone that’s a big fan of the Star Wars prequels, there are a lot of goodies to check out and use in-game. For some players, it’ll be fun to check out the barrage of new content that keeps them playing Fortnite, while others will just be happy to see more love for Star Wars while celebrating May the 4th with everyone.

Are you going to check out all the new Star Wars content coming to Fortnite? What other collaborations do you want to see happen in Fornite in the nearby future? Share your thoughts down below in the comments and let us know!

Frog and Toad’s Animated Adventures Are Coming To Apple TV+

Frog and Toad are leaping from the books to television with a new series exclusively on Apple TV+. The show captures books’ illustrations and the importance of friendship quite well, judging by the recently released trailer. The series will star Disenchantment’s Nat Faxon as Frog and Kevin Michael Richardson of Teen Titans fame as Toad.

Frog and Toad will premiere on Apple TV+ on April 28th. Apple’s streaming service costs $6.99 monthly but offers a 7-day trial. Other shows and movies on the service include Severance, Tetris (review), Sharper, The After Party, Ghosted, and Fraggle Rock Rock On.

The stories were originally published in four books between 1970 and 1979. They were written and illustrated by Arnold Lobel, who passed away in 1987. The series of books remain pretty popular. I passed my set of Frog and Toad books down to my daughter. The tales of friendship will always be relevant, even as children’s entertainment slowly becomes more cynical.

As odd as it sounds, I’m glad this series is on Apple TV+ rather than Netflix. Considering the backlash targeted toward that streaming service’s other shows, I’d hate to see what Netflix would do to the wholesome Frog and Toad.

This isn’t the first time that Frog and Toad’s adventures have been adapted into an animated format. In the second half of the 1980s, John Clark Matthews directed a series of stop-motion shorts for Churchill Films. Check them out below.

How many of you still have your copies? With how flooded the children’s literature market is, I was surprised to see the books still showing up whenever the book fair happened at my kid’s school. Thankfully, there’s little modern Hollywood can do to squash the message and characters Lobel created.

What was your favorite adventure that Toad and Frog went on? Let us know below.

Amazon Renews ‘Bosch: Legacy’ For A Third Season

Amazon Studios announced that the detective drama ‘Bosch: Legacy’ will return for a third season on their free streaming service Freevee. The show is a continuation of the Prime Video original ‘Bosch,’ with Titus Welliver returning as protagonist Hieronymus “Harry” Bosch, who is a police detective turning private investigator.

“Harry Bosch’s pursuit of justice continues,” they said in a statement. “Prior to the Amazon NewFront presentation today, Amazon Freevee announced that Bosch: Legacy will return for a third season, ahead of the second season premiere this fall. Airing last year, the first season of Bosch: Legacy built on the loyal fan base of the original series and enticed new audiences, delivering a higher number of viewers than any previous season of Bosch.”

You can watch the trailer below:

The series is based on the novels by Michael Connelly, who is also an executive producer and writer for the series.

Amazon describes the synopsis as follows,

“Bosch: Legacy follows Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver), a retired homicide detective turned private investigator, as he embarks on the next chapter of his career; attorney Honey “Money” Chandler (Mimi Rogers), who struggles to maintain her faith in the justice system after surviving an attempted murder; and Maddie Bosch (Madison Lintz), as she discovers the possibilities and challenges of being a rookie patrol cop on the streets of Los Angeles. During Season Two, Bosch and Chandler work together to seek out a killer who just might find them first. As a result of being kidnapped by a masked assailant, Maddie Bosch’s law enforcement career hangs in the balance. While they hunt for Maddie, the FBI scrutinizes Carl Rogers’ murder and places Bosch and Chandler under suspicion.”

The series also stars Mimi Rogers as Honey “Money” Chandler who previously had an antagonistic relationship with Bosch, but now employs him as an investigator. Madison Lintz stars as Madeline “Maddie” Bosch, the daughter of the protagonist who follows her father’s path and becomes a police officer.

DC Comics Announces ‘Barkham Asylum’ Graphic Novel For Kids

0

Ever wonder about the pets of Batman’s greatest enemies? Now is your chance to find out more about them. DC Comics has announced that they are publishing ‘Barkham Asylum,” a young readers’ graphic novel about the various pets belonging to the inmates of Arkham Asylum and Blackgate Prison.

“Don’t make these pets paw for your attention! The mischievous pets of Gotham’s Super-Villains are uniting for an escape adventure in the new DC middle-grade graphic novel Barkham Asylum, created by writer and artist Yehudi Mercado (Shazam! Thundercrack), available wherever books are sold on February 6, 2024,” DC said on their website.

“When the Super-Villains of Gotham get thrown into Arkham Asylum, their henchpets go to the maximum-security pound known as Barkham Asylum,” they continued. “Fur flies when Jester, The Joker’s dog, gets a tough-talking stray cat named Penny tossed into lockup with him. But they’ll have to work together to figure out what the evil Dr. Hugo Mange is up to. And the only way to stop this terrifying team-up is to win the talent show and get visitation with their masters at Arkham on the hill. Because the Joker is sure to help! What could go wrong with that plan?”

The comic book will be aimed at elementary and middle school students where they can read about the various pets who suspiciously resemble their owners.

Writer and artist Yehudi Mercado explained, “When crafting this graphic novel, I pulled some inspiration from my own experience growing up.”

He added, “I was a class clown in school and as a result of that, I spent a lot of time in detention. So I can kind of relate to the lead dog, Jester, in my own way. All Jester wants is to make people laugh, so in his mind, his master isn’t such a bad guy. Locked up with him is an innocent stray cat named Penny, a loner who rejects Jester’s request to join his pack. But if they’re going to get out of this mess, they will have to team up. And if a stray cat and The Joker’s dog can get along, then maybe there’s hope for all of us!”

DC Comics often explores the furry side of their universe.

Vampire Survivors Is Getting An Animated TV Series

One of the most addictive indie games to play recently has been Vampire Survivors. If you haven’t gotten a chance to play it just yet, it’s a simple yet highly addictive action game where you take down legions of monsters using magical attacks and weapons. If you haven’t already, you should definitely check out our review of Vampire Survivors and impressions of the Tides of Foscari DLC that came out recently. But Vampire Survivors might be jumping mediums and getting an animated TV show from the producer of the Sonic the Hedgehog movies.

According to a report published on Deadline, Vampire Survivors is being adapted into an animated series by Story Kitchen. The studio is working together with the founder of poncle, Luca Galante, to adapt the game into a series. Poncle is the studio that developed Vampire Survivors back in 2022 and received a number of awards for various outlets.

Currently, there is a search for a writer to create a script for the series. While that is going on, Vampire Survivors is going to be shopped around to various TV networks that are interested in a new animated show. Speaking with Deadline about the game getting adapted, Luca had a few thoughts and excitement to share about the news. “The most important thing in Vampire Survivors is the story, so it’s a dream come true to see what started as a little indie game I made on my weekends come to life as an animated TV show! It’s also great to be partnering up with such experienced and talented people to make the show. I do wonder if they’ve realized that there isn’t a single vampire in Vampire Survivors, though.”

Dmitri M. Johnson, the co-founder of Story Kitchen, also shared some thoughts about working in collaboration with Luca to adapt the game for television. “When our Head of Creative, Dan Jevons, flagged Vampire Survivors for us last year upon its initial release, we were prepared to dismiss it as just another vampire game. Hundreds of hours played later, we were all hooked, and we just could not get enough!! Needless to say, we’re truly honored to partner with this incredible team and to continue the Vampire Survivors story!”

While a script for the show is still being made, anyone that is curious about the story of the series can look to the game for a rough idea of what might make it into the show. The game takes place in Italy 2021, where the Belpase family battles the evil Bisconte Draculó, who is trying to bring death and suffering to the world. There are many similarities to the Castlevania series that often feel more like homages than inspirations, but the gameplay of Vampire Survivors is very different from the Konami-published series. A release date or window has yet to be announced, but we can hear more about the Vampire Survivors animated series once a writer is found and production gets underway.

Are you curious about the Vampire Survivors animated series? Will you be watching when it finally releases? Post your thoughts in the comments and let your voice be heard!
