Vampire Survivors Is Getting An Animated TV Series

One of the most addictive indie games to play recently has been Vampire Survivors. If you haven’t gotten a chance to play it just yet, it’s a simple yet highly addictive action game where you take down legions of monsters using magical attacks and weapons. If you haven’t already, you should definitely check out our review of Vampire Survivors and impressions of the Tides of Foscari DLC that came out recently. But Vampire Survivors might be jumping mediums and getting an animated TV show from the producer of the Sonic the Hedgehog movies.

According to a report published on Deadline, Vampire Survivors is being adapted into an animated series by Story Kitchen. The studio is working together with the founder of poncle, Luca Galante, to adapt the game into a series. Poncle is the studio that developed Vampire Survivors back in 2022 and received a number of awards for various outlets.

Currently, there is a search for a writer to create a script for the series. While that is going on, Vampire Survivors is going to be shopped around to various TV networks that are interested in a new animated show. Speaking with Deadline about the game getting adapted, Luca had a few thoughts and excitement to share about the news. “The most important thing in Vampire Survivors is the story, so it’s a dream come true to see what started as a little indie game I made on my weekends come to life as an animated TV show! It’s also great to be partnering up with such experienced and talented people to make the show. I do wonder if they’ve realized that there isn’t a single vampire in Vampire Survivors, though.”

Dmitri M. Johnson, the co-founder of Story Kitchen, also shared some thoughts about working in collaboration with Luca to adapt the game for television. “When our Head of Creative, Dan Jevons, flagged Vampire Survivors for us last year upon its initial release, we were prepared to dismiss it as just another vampire game. Hundreds of hours played later, we were all hooked, and we just could not get enough!! Needless to say, we’re truly honored to partner with this incredible team and to continue the Vampire Survivors story!”

While a script for the show is still being made, anyone that is curious about the story of the series can look to the game for a rough idea of what might make it into the show. The game takes place in Italy 2021, where the Belpase family battles the evil Bisconte Draculó, who is trying to bring death and suffering to the world. There are many similarities to the Castlevania series that often feel more like homages than inspirations, but the gameplay of Vampire Survivors is very different from the Konami-published series. A release date or window has yet to be announced, but we can hear more about the Vampire Survivors animated series once a writer is found and production gets underway.
