The 75th Emmy Awards might not be until September 18th, 2023, but it is already making a stir online. The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, the organization hosting the ceremony, announced the nominees for this year.

New Twilight Zone Prop Replicas Coming To Entertainment Earth

Bif Bang Pow! and Entertainment Earth have teamed up to deliver 1:1 replicas of two of The Twilight Zone’s most iconic props. This August, take home working replicas of the Mystic Seer and the terrifying Talky Tina!

Both replicas work. Yep, Talky Tina talks, and the Mystic Seer dispenses fortune cards. Oh, and the devilish machine also holds napkins! It’s the little touches that open my wallet!

The Mystic Seer, from the Nick of Time episode starring William Shatner, is $299.99. However, the replica isn’t screen-accurate, and that’s because this version is based on the prop found in Disney’s Tower of Terror. Hence why it’s called the “Theme Park Edition.”

The Mystic Seer is limited to only 350 pieces and comes with the following features:

Anime Matsuri’s first anime Zip Shimezo has recently become available Amazon Prime. Last year, Anime Matsuri had announced a new dubbing studio with two anime specials as their first English dubbed animes, which were Zip Shimezo and Genbanojo. Both animes are from Nippon Animation.

Here is the summary of the 23 minute anime:
A young boy and an unsuccessful zipper spirit become frustrated with their home life and decide to leave home together. The young boy’s little sister tags along for the adventure, but what awaits them ahead?

On Monday July 10th, voice actor and ADR director Vic Mignogna posted a video of himself announcing the news of Zip Shimezo being available on Amazon Prime.

In the video, Vic Mignogna says, “Last year, AM Studios, a brand new dubbing studio that we’re getting started from the ground floor, associated with Anime Matsuri… Last year we premiered two short films. Well I’m very very excited to tell you that Zip Shimezo is now on Amazon Prime. It’s available for rent or purchase. And I would love to ask all of you please, to go, rent it, or purchase it and help support AM Studios.”

Mignogna continues, “We’ve got a lot of really cool licenses lined up. Good things are happening and you guys have been so kind and so supportive and encouraging. And a lot of people have been writing and asking ‘when’s the new Studio gonna get going and what’s next for you guys? And how can we help?’ Well this is how you can help. Steven Spielberg Is Jurassic Park’s Next 30th Anniversary Action Figure

After decades of being a filmmaking legend, Steven Spielberg is finally getting his own action figure. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Jurassic Park, Mattel Creations has made a unique box set featuring the movie’s director.

Spielberg’s 3.75″ Hammon Collection action figure comes with an Andy Warhol-inspired dinosaur print shirt, hat, sunglasses, director’s chair, camera, and a dilophosaurus. The included dinosaur has a removable special effects stand, a nifty little touch acknowledging Stan Winston’s creature effects.

The Jurassic Park 30th Anniversary Steven Spielberg Figure set is priced at $30 but won’t be available until July 21st at 9 AM PT. These are limited to two per customer.

If you want to collect classic Jurassic Park characters from the Hammond Collection, figures are still on shelves at stores like Target. Some, of course, are rarer than others. Luckily, the JP30 retro-style toys will give you a second chance to grab some of those harder-to-find characters.

‘Spy Classroom’ Season 2 Arrives On HiDive

The espionage anime ‘Spy Classroom’ is returning for a second season once again produced by Studio Feel. North American fans will get to view it on the same day as its release in Japan as Sentai Filmworks, who acquired the distribution rights outside of Asia, will be “simulcasting” the television show on the HiDive streaming service.

“Ready for more espionage and team Lamplight? So are we. Join Thursday, July 13, 2023 at 10:30 AM EDT (14:30 UTC) as we stream the latest season right here on HIDIVE! Don’t worry, if you still haven’t finished season 1 yet, there’s still time,” HiDive said on their website.

Keiichiro Kawaguchi returns to direct the anime with Shinichi Inotsume handling the writing of the scripts and Sumie Kinoshita illustrating the character designs.

The show stars Yūichirō Umehara (Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans), Sora Amamiya (Tokyo Ghoul), Miku Itō (The Quintessential Quintuplets), Nao Tōyama (Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai), Aoi Yūki (Persona 5), Sumire Uesaka (In Another World With My Smartphone), Ayane Sakura (Granblue Fantasy), Inori Minase (Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear), and Tomori Kusunoki (Chainsaw Man) as the members of Lamplight.

Anilist describes the synopsis as follows,

“Conflict-ravaged nations now deploy covert operatives instead of missiles. Lily is recruited into spy-training… but her practical skills are absolutely abysmal. ‘Spy Classroom’ is an espionage thriller manga written by Takemachi, illustrated by Tomari, and published by the Japanese publisher Fujimi Shobo since 2020. Yen Press currently has the license to publish an English version of ‘Spy Classroom’ in North America.

The manga is also known as ‘Spy Room’ in some markets.

Netflix Announces ‘Squid Game’ Season 2 Cast

The Korean horror series ‘Squid Game’ is returning for a second season with a new list of competitors. The television show was praised by both audiences and critics when it arrived on Netflix in 2021.  The plot followed a group of people who were gathered to play deadly games with the winner receiving riches while a wealthy elite watches.

Netflix announced the cast list for the upcoming season in a statement:

  • Park Gyu-young: Well known for her role in Netflix series Sweet Home Seasons 1 and 2, she is also starring in the upcoming Netflix series Celebrity.
  • Jo Yu-ri: The singer and actress is known as a former member of South Korean-Japanese girl group Iz*One.
  • Kang Ae-sim: A highly respected theater and musical actress in Korea, her performance in TV series Be Melodramatic and Netflix series Move to Heaven left a deep impression on the audience.
  • Lee David: Best known for his supporting roles in director Hwang’s film The Fortress, he met Lee Jung-jae through the film, Svaha: The Sixth Finger.
  • Lee Jin-uk: Starred in Netflix series Sweet Home Seasons 1 and 2, he is also known for his roles in various Korean dramas and films, including in one of director Hwang’s biggest films, Miss Granny.
  • Choi Seung-hyun: The singer and actor has starred in various Korean films and TV series such as Tazza: The Hidden Card and Commitment.
  • Roh Jae-won: Making his acting debut in 2021, he is fast gaining recognition through films like Missing Yoon and Ditto.
  • Won Ji-an: Made an impressive debut on the first season of Netflix series D.P.

Netflix also dropped a teaser announcement to explore the casting:

Series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk will return to write, direct, and produce the second season. Actor Lee Jung-jae who portrayed winner of the last round Seong Gi-hun will reprise the role. The South Korean entertainment company Firstman Studios will develop the series before it is released on Netflix.

Star Wars Timelines – A Book of Clouded Force Vision?

Star Wars is a franchise with a galaxy of events that overlap and influence one another in many different ways. If you’ve been following the movies and numerous series over the last 40 years, you’ll know how complex things can get in a galaxy far, far, away. If you’ve only gotten to see a fraction of the stories that comprise the Star Wars galaxy, then you might be even more lost to how deep things can run in this sci-fi universe. But seeing the adventures of Luke Skywalker and many other heroes of the force may have become a little easier with the 2023 book release of Star Wars Timelines: From the Time Before the High Republic to the Fall of the First Order. And yet, as much as the book tries to be a detailed chronology of many events within Star Wars, a number of major and minor issues and inconsistencies prevent it from being a definitive resource for Star Wars fans new and old.

The best parts of Star Wars Timelines are the visuals that do a solid job of mapping out the timeframe in which many events in Star Wars take place. Most of the major occurrences and important franchise events are covered in the book, which includes just about everything you can think of from the mainline movies of the Skywalker Saga and the canon shows. The years that Star Wars Timelines covers is everything from 25,000 years before the battle of Yavin (BBY) to around 40 years after the battle of Yavin (ABY). But in between all the important stuff we know from Star Wars media, the bookmarks off many of the lesser-known moments that build up to the critical moments.

A lot of the stories and characters that are referenced outside of the movies and television shows include things seen in Star Wars books and comics released during the Disney era of Lucasfilm. This would mean things seen in the Star Wars or Darth Vader comics published by Marvel, as well as novels released during the time of the sequel trilogy of movies. There is a lot of information and things to keep track of, to the point that for some it can be overwhelming if you haven’t been able to follow or look into most of what’s included in the book.

This leads to a major problem that Star Wars Timelines has with its information despite how vast its reach is within Star Wars lore. The book does not point out key references or things that readers can go to when touching on important events or characters. There is no guide or listing of specific movies, books, or comics included in any section of any era, which is a huge missed opportunity. Seeing a character or event you might not recognize will leave you without any help since the book won’t point out where you can see the story it comes from, even if it’s a major thing from one of the theatrical movies.

The lack of a guide or any sort of bibliography that marks things readers can go to makes this a book that only the most dedicated Star Wars fan can get the most of. And even for them, they could find themselves lost if they come across something they’ve never read or seen beforehand that appears to be important in the markings of the book’s timelines. A lot of this can be an issue for those who haven’t been able to see everything within the High Republic era that the book focuses on greatly, but can also be applied to nearly every era the book covers within its timeline.

This can be especially problematic with things mentioned in manga, comics, or novels that are briefly touched on. It can bring into question the relevance of events and characters to the greater timeline if they are only mildly important and nothing more. A small solution to this could’ve been something like an asterisk or small note about where key events take place, which would be a massive asset for everyone caught by surprise. The better solution would’ve honestly been to have pages toward the end of the book that include every piece of Star Wars media that was referenced, so any curious person can seek them out.

But that’s not the only major issue with Star Wars Timelines that sticks out. The book can be wildly inconsistent with how it chooses to include certain events as important enough for its timelines, while other arguably more important instances are left out entirely. This is made complicated because of the issue with what is considered canon and what is not for the Star Wars franchise. The biggest omission here is The Old Republic, which for many is arguably one of the most popular eras within Star Wars, but is now considered Legends. The book mentions the time period when things such as Knights of the Old Republic take place but limits its relevance to very limited mentions of it. It is a huge gap left open that is confusing when considering Star Wars Timelines was a book released after the rerelease of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, as well as the official announcement of Knights of the Old Republic Remake.

Unfortunately, that’s not the only problem Star Wars Timelines reveals within each section. Many of the shows and game series that were going on right up to when the book was published are left incomplete. This includes games like Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, The Mandalorian, and even The Bad Batch. While things like this will inevitably happen with books that cover ongoing series, it can still stick out pretty badly.

At one point, there are mentions of The Bad Batch leading up to the start of the Age of Rebellion, to which anything about them is never mentioned again. The same can also be said about Inferno Squad from the Star Wars Battlefront 2 video game, whose story can reach close to the end of the Skywalker Saga of films in the timeline. A small paragraph or a few lines could have mentioned that things became unknown in the galaxy about such things, which would at least alleviate the jarring nature of their absence.

Star Wars Timelines does have a lot of great insight into many aspects of the galaxy that were influential to key events. Pages of the book are dedicated to specific ships, characters, battles, and other relevant subjects like Order 66. There are multiple timelines laid out and marked with important events as they happened chronologically, as well as how they specifically came into play during their era. This is good and helps smooth out parts of the Star Wars timeline, but their placements in the book can make things feel jumbled.

Often there will be random pages where these sections pop up, breaking up the smooth progressions of timeline events between sections, so you’re never going through an area straight through. It’s like the book jumps between parts often. It would’ve been a lot better and read smoother to have the character or subject highlights towards the end after having one consistent timeline, allowing supplemental information to not become distracting. Some better organization like this would have made the book far easier to go through and a better resource overall.

For all of its flaws and inconsistencies, Star Wars Timelines is a detailed book that covers a wide range of the franchise’s lore and history. It might not be the best resource for every Star Wars fan that hasn’t familiarized themselves with most of the stories out there, especially if you’ve missed a lot. There will most likely be a revised version of this at some point from Lucasfilm, most likely after more Star Wars projects are released and others are given a definitive conclusion. At that point, a book like this will feel much more complete than how it is now. If you still enjoy collectible Star Wars hardcover books, then you can still get a lot of enjoyment skimming through this one. It has enough within it to still justify picking it up sometime.

Bleach: Soul Resonance Mobile Game Revealed

If you’re a fan of anime, then chances are you’ve watched or have been a fan of the series Bleach. A new season of the ongoing anime is releasing soon, Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War Part 2, which will continue the final arc of the Bleach manga in anime form. Series hero Ichigo Kurosaki will clash with Uryu as the Quincy and Soul Reaper war rages on. But Bleach fans will have more to check out besides a new season of the anime very soon. How does a new Bleach role-playing game sound?

Bleach: Soul Resonance is a brand new mobile game being developed by Black Moon Studio team at Nuverse, the same team behind the popular Marvel Snap mobile game. The game will follow an original storyline that also uses the same visual style as Bleach: The Thousand Year Blood War, with cell-shaded graphics. Based on the official website for the game, players will engage in strategic battles with familiar faces from the anime on the battlefield.

The game is still in development and is aiming for a 2024 release on iOS and Android mobile platforms. Via a letter to fans posted on the official Bleach: Soul Resonance website, the team expressed their desire to provide the best experience that would be faithful to the series.

“When thinking about the gameplay design of Soul Resonance, we aim at giving everyone a more immersive experience and a unique taste of what’s special about this game. Therefore, “the plot experience method of 3D theater performance and the core gameplay of sword action” outlines the basics of Bleach: Soul Resonance.” Nuverse was also the company behind other anime-based mobile games such as One Piece: Blood Routes and Ragnarok X: Next Generation.

The team continued to express their passion for the Bleach series and mentioned they plan to have test sessions for the game soon. “The members of Black Moon Studio are all huge fans of BLEACH. We are very happy to make games for your favorite anime. We hope to be recognized by everyone who likes BLEACH and see more players learn the story and spirit behind as this game grows on them. We have been playing this project very close to our chest, and it needs to be polished before its official launch. In the near future, the game will carry out multiple rounds of testing events, and we will also invite everyone to join us and forge our own Bleach: Soul Resonance together.”

New Ahsoka Trailer Hints at Big Revelations in Disney Plus Series

With the release of Ahsoka happening very soon on Disney Plus, fans have been eagerly waiting to watch the series. The reception of the first Ahsoka trailer shown at Star Wars Celebration was very positive, with many attendees expressing their excitement over social media about how good the show looked. And while we still have to wait a little bit longer for the show to go live on Disney Plus, a new trailer released officially by Lucasfilm gives fans another peek at the upcoming Star Wars show. And it hints at some big things happening in it.

The new trailer for Ahsoka gives better looks at many of the characters that will appear throughout the series. We finally get a very clear look at Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn, as well as many of the Star Wars Rebels characters making their first live-action debut. If you were worried about any of the heroes from Rebels not translating well into live-action, the trailer does a great job of putting those worries to rest.

What’s more interesting is how the new Ahsoka trailer spotlights one of the antagonists of the series, Baylan Skoll, and his apprentice Shin Hati, played by Ivanna Sakhno. The role of Baylan was played by the late Ray Stevenson, who passed away after filming on Ahsoka was complete and shortly after appearing at a few events to promote Ahsoka with the rest of the cast. Baylan and Shin are said to be Jedi who survived the great purge of Order 66 during the events of Revenge of the Sith. Their motivations and reason for standing against Ahsoka are hinted at in the trailer, but much more is set to be revealed over the course of the show’s eight episodes.

As for Ahsoka herself, played once again by Rosario Dawson, there’s a lot going on in this series. Not only is Ahsoka reuniting with many of the characters seen in Star Wars Rebels, but she is continuing her search for Grand Admiral Thrawn. A big point of the trailer is when Ahsoka gets into a conversation with Hera and later with Baylan where she mentions Anakin Skywalker. Is it possible that we might see other connections to Ahsoka’s master in some way throughout the series? We also see Sabine Wren, played by Natasha Liu Bordizzo, show up and cut her hair short, as well as get into a battle with Shin at various points.

Although there was a lot shown in this new trailer, there are even more questions that fans will have about what is happening in the show. Lucasfilm has already begun the promotional tour of the show in various places, with many cast members speaking about their experience and what Star Wars fans can expect to see. While there are so many more questions brought up, fans will have to wait just a little longer to have them answered. Ahsoka is set to have a two-episode premiere on August 23rd on Disney Plus.

Black Panther Game from EA Being Made by Cliffhanger Games

There have been a lot of different games based on Marvel heroes in the shadow of the popularity that is the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Games like Insomniac’s Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles Morales were big hits for PlayStation, while others like Guardians of the Galaxy and Marvel’s Avengers had varying results. But it looks like another Marvel hero will be getting his own game from the developers of the Shadow of Mordor development team. Get ready for a trip to Wakanda in a new Black Panther game.

Electronic Arts has confirmed that they are making a single-player original action-adventure game based on Marvel’s Black Panther with their studio Cliffhanger Games, in collaboration with Marvel Games. The studio includes industry veterans that have worked on games like Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor, as well as other major game releases like Halo Infinite, Call of Duty, and God of War. The announcement came from a quick teaser shared over social media by EA on its various accounts, announcing the game and showing the iconic Black Panther symbol and necklace. The game currently has no specific details confirmed nor does it have any gameplay or cinematic trailer that shows anything about it.

Via a press release, former head of Monolith Studio Kevin Stephens talked about his excitement about being involved with the new Black Panther game. “We’re dedicated to delivering fans a definitive and authentic Black Panther experience, giving them more agency and control over their narrative than they have ever experienced in a story-driven video game… Wakanda is a rich superhero sandbox, and our mission is to develop an epic world for players who love Black Panther and want to explore the world of Wakanda as much as we do.”

The Black Panther game was originally reported to be in development back in 2022 when rumors were passed around about it at various outlets following news about multiple games. It was only recently that the publisher had acknowledged the game’s existence, with many speculating about it beforehand. Kevin went on “It’s an incredibly rare opportunity to build a new team around the values of diversity, collaboration, and empowerment. We want our game to enable players to feel what it’s like to be worthy of the Black Panther mantle in unique, story-driven ways, and we want Cliffhanger Games to empower everyone on our team as we collaborate to bring this amazing world to life.”
