Atari’s Berzerk & Frenzy Are The Next New Wave Toys Cabinets!

New Wave Toys is bringing back two Atari classic cabinets as part of its Replicade line of 1:6 scale arcade machines. Berzerk and Frenzy join the recently announced Ghosts’ N Goblins cabs.

If you can’t decide which one you want, New Wave Toys has solved that issue by putting the ROMs for both games in each arcade cabinet! Also, a new feature New Wave Toys has included is removable PCB boards. These are, of course, nonfunctional, but it makes the miniaturized cabinets feel even more authentic.

Alone, the cabinets will run you $159.99 each; the two can be purchased in one bundle for $311.98. These are expected to ship out during the first quarter of 2024.

Call of Duty Zombies Are Coming to Modern Warfare 3

One of the most popular game modes to play for Call of Duty players has been Zombies. Originally added into the series with the release of Call of Duty: World at War, the Zombies mode has been a staple for many entries of the franchise. But Zombies have never been part of the Modern Warfare releases of Call of Duty that have come out in the past. That will be changing with the upcoming release of the reimagined Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 for multiple platforms. Are you ready for Modern Warfare zombies?

The news about Zombies coming to Modern Warfare 3 originated in a Twitter post by YouTuber MrDalekJD, a content creator who makes content mostly focused on Call of Duty titles. He shared a short clip of how texting the word “zombies” to a certain phone number, which appears in the trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, gets a response with a zombie emoji and a special link. When MrDalekJD clicks on the link, it leads to a special sound file that is on the Activision website.

While the sound clip is very short, it’s obvious that the audio is of zombies screaming. For MrDalekJD and many others who saw the clip, it was official confirmation that a Zombies mode will be included in Modern Warfare 3. Besides this one tease, no other official details about Zombies in the game have been released by Activision.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 is the first of the Modern Warfare games to include any mode that involves zombies. Previously, Modern Warfare games have included a Spec-Ops mode that gave players a chance to complete objectives cooperatively. Call of Duty players who wanted to check out Zombies had to play any of the Treyarch-developed games of the series that had Zombies. Specifically, the Call of Duty Black Ops games were what fans needed to play for anything zombie-related. But with so many things crossing over between the games in releases like Warzone 2.0, this was bound to happen at some point. Hopefully, soon, Activision will give fans a quick look and some concrete details about what to expect from Zombies in Modern Warfare 3.

What do you think of the teaser that Zombies mode is coming to Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3? Were you a big fan of Zombies in previous Call of Duty games? What was your favorite version of it? Tell us everything about it in the comment section down below and let your voice be heard!

‘Tearmoon Empire’ Anime Gets A Fall Release Date

0

The 2019 light novel fantasy series ‘Tearmoon Empire’ from writer Nozomu Mochitsuki and publisher TO Books is getting an anime adaption from the Japanese animation studio Silver Link. After being announced in September 2022, information trickled out, but now there has been an update that assures fans of a release date for the Fall of 2023.

Crunchyroll said on their website, “Mia Luna Tearmoon will officially restart her reign with a fresh head on her shoulders (literally and figuratively) on October 7 at 25:00 JST (effectively October 8 at 1:00) in the Tearmoon Empire anime series…”

The show will be directed by Yūshi Ibe, written by Deko Akao, character designs handled by Mai Otsuka, and Kōji Fujimoto will be composing the music for the anime.

Voice actress Sumire Uesaka (Restaurant to Another World, Overlord) will tackle the role of Princess Mia.

The rest of the cast includes:

  • Shun Horie (The Dangers In My Heart) as Sion Sol Sunkland
  • Tomori Kusunoki (Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online) as Anne Littstein
  • Yoshitsugu Matsuoka (Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba) as Abel Remno
  • Yuichiro Umehara (Fruits Basket the Final) as Ludwig Hewitt

You can watch the trailer below:

Wikipedia describes the synopsis as follows,

“At the collapsed Tearmoon Empire, 20 years old Princess Mia, who was scorned as the selfish princess, was executed through guillotine. Instead of dying, she awakens to find herself back in her 12 year old body. Pleading to avoid the execution at all cost, she decides to rebuild the empire. As such, she would “put her own safety first.” Her supposedly selfish action, mixed with her knowledge from her first life, somehow charms the people around her instead as she works hard to turn her enemies in her first life to be her allies.”

TO Books also publishes a manga version of the series illustrated by Mizu Morino. J-Novel Club releases the light novel series and the manga in the United States.

Netflix Allies With Climax Studio To Produce Animated Korean Film ‘Lost In Starlight’

The Netflix streaming service is partnering with the South Korean entertainment company Climax Studio to produce the animated feature film ‘Lost In Starlight.’

“Netflix’s very first Korean-language animated film will be the love story Lost in Starlight, starring the voices of K-drama powerhouses Kim Tae-ri and Hong Kyung,” Netflix said in a statement. “Most recently seen in talk-of-the-town K-horror series Revenant, the two have already proven they have an uncanny chemistry. In Lost in Starlight, they lend their voices to the roles of astronaut Nan-young and musician Jay, who embark on the longest-ever long-distance relationship — one that bridges Earth and Mars.”

The movie will be directed by Han Ji-won (Clearer than You Think) who co-wrote the screenplay with Kang Hyun-joo (The Scarlet Letter).

Netflix explains that the plot will follow “Nan-young, whose astronaut mom failed to return to Earth when things went awry during her Mars probe. Nan-young has always dreamed of exploring space too, and longs to go to Mars in hopes of finding a trace of her mom. Her dream comes true when she is selected as one of the astronauts for a Mars probe project. Before she blasts off though, she meets Jay, a musician who also fixes retro sound instruments. (It’s all thanks to an old turntable that Nan-young inherited from her mom.)”

The award-winning actress Kim Tae-ri (1987: When the Day Comes, Space Sweepers) will take on the role of Nan-young while Hong Kyung (My Lawyer, Mr. Jo 2: Crime and Punishment, The Effect of a Finger Flick on a Breakup) will be performing the character of Jay.

You can watch the trailer on Twitter:

Climax Studio previously developed the feature films ‘Jung_E,’ ‘Jazzy Misfits,’ and ‘Concrete Utopia’ as well as the television shows ‘Hellhound,’ ‘If You Wish Upon Me,’ ‘Cursed,’ ‘Parasyte: The Grey,’ and the video game ‘Gormiti: The Lords of Nature.’

SpongeBob’s Jay Lender Apologizes After Targeting Animator Eagan Tilghman

0

Just a few days ago, we wrote about Eagan Tilghman, an animator being targeted by Hollywood for not hiring voice actors for his small fan project. The backlash was swift, and it has finally come to a head.

The animator issued a statement calling for the Twitter mob to lay off Jay Lender. Tilghman was the only one out of the entire fiasco to act like an adult. Where the SpongeBob SquarePants director and voice actress Grey DeLisle failed, Tilghman prevailed.

Lender admits he was wrong to use Tilghman’s work as a springboard for his fight against AI and parody laws. He also recognizes that tagging other Hollywood actors in his initial post was a mistake. I also wonder why he tried to involve Mindy Kaling and Grey DeLisle, considering neither actor voiced characters during the original 1969 Scooby-Doo series.

In case Lender decided to delete his tweet again:

Lender’s initial post drew all eyes to his and Grey Griffin’s misplaced anger. We screen-captured the tweets because I knew that this take was going to get pulled down:

Credit: Twitter

In other good news, several VO artists have come out and pledged to help Tilghman redub Scooby Doo, Where Are You? In… SPRINGTRAPPED!

All of the drama was started because of this well-made indie project. It had no studio affiliation and was just a show of Eagan Tilghman’s skill. The scorn he received for using AI voices in a fan project was beyond sad. Hopefully, the level of support and exposure the artist got over this will make up for the stress the overzealous Hollywood gatekeepers poured on this talented creator.

I am beyond happy that this has resolved itself, even if there are randos on Twitter trying to chastise the animator. However, Eagan Tilghman is the way to a much brighter future than those trying to bring the Blender animator down over a tempest in a teacup.

Kotaku Editor-in-Chief Reportedly Fired by G/O Media Management

Kotaku is a video game website that has been very divisive among gamers for a long time. For some, the outlet has been a place where breaking news stories and insightful opinion pieces have left an impression on the games industry over the years. For others, however, Kotaku is a website that has caused a lot of drama and debate for anyone that follows video games online. But regardless of how you might feel about Kotaku as a website, things might be changing drastically over there. How it might impact the website going forward is anyone’s guess.

On August 14th, 2023, news broke out via a post on Substack by journalist Shannon Liao that Kotaku editor-in-chief Patricia Hernandez was fired from her position by G/O media management. The article was following a post on Patricia’s Twitter (X profile) page announcing it was her last day working at the website. In a thread following her post, she praised her colleagues and her time at Kotaku as a writer and becoming it’s editor-in-chief.

According to details shared on Shannon Liao’s post on Substack (paywalled) and reported in GamesIndustry.biz, Patricia was fired after a personnel disagreement with G/O Media management. “When leadership is, say, getting frustrated at you for writing about Tears of the Kingdom after its release, I do think there’s a limit to how much things can flourish…” While the exact details of why Patricia was fired from Kotaku are not yet known, GamesIndustry.biz went on to say they reached out to G/O Media for a comment.

Responses to the news online have been mixed. On the Twitter posts by Patricia Hernandez, many industry colleagues expressed well wishes on her future endeavors, as well as mentioned their own interactions with the former Kotaku editor-in-chief. Other people outside of the industry in forums and other Twitter posts expressed indifferent opinions about the firing, with some expressing disappointment in the quality of the content that was published on Kotaku since Patricia first became editor-in-chief of the website. Some even went as far as to say that some of the content they published was unreadable.

While there isn’t a lot of information made public about her firing, more details about what led up to everything may come out soon. For now, Patricia Hernandez is looking to focus more on freelance writing. As far as who might be the next person to become editor-in-chief at Kotaku, nothing is known for now. G/O Media has yet to make a statement on what they will do next with the gaming outlet, or whether any other changes may be coming soon.

What do you think about the news of Kotaku’s editor-in-chief being fired? Were you an avid reader or follower of their content? What will happen now? Share your thoughts about everything in the comment section below.

Netflix Starts Beta Test For Gaming On Multiple Devices

Netflix will soon begin testing out its catalog of mobile video games on other platforms. Previously, the library of fifty-something titles such as TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge and Stranger Things: 1984 were only playable via Netflix’s phone app. There is a catch, however.

The beta test is open only for “a small number of members in Canada and the UK on select TVs starting today, and on PCs and Macs through Netflix.com on supported browsers in the next few weeks.

Only two titles from Netflix’s library will be part of the beta: Molehew’s Mining Adventure and Oxenfree. The latter was initially released in 2016 to mostly positive reviews.

If you’re wondering how games will be played on the TV, Netflix will rely on users’ phones. It’s unclear if Bluetooth-enabled controllers will be compatible.

Testing will be restricted to specific devices:

This limited beta is meant to test our game streaming technology and controller, and to improve the member experience over time. Games on TV will operate on select devices from our initial partners including: Amazon Fire TV Streaming Media Players, Chromecast with Google TV, LG TVs, Nvidia Shield TV, Roku devices and TVs, Samsung Smart TVs, and Walmart ONN. Additional devices will be added on an ongoing basis.

Currently, Netflix has over 50 games available on mobile platforms. The titles are included in all Netflix memberships at no additional cost. Kids’ profiles are not able to access the games, thankfully.

I had forgotten that Netflix gaming was a thing. News regarding games released on the streaming service has flown far under the radar.

There must be a market for it since the streaming giant is expanding beyond handheld devices. However, can it compete with Apple Arcade and gaming consoles?

Have you played any of these games on your phone? What has your experience been? Let us know in the comments section below.

Microsoft Reveals An XBOX Strike and Suspension System

0

After almost two decades of XBOX online gaming, Microsoft is finally taking more intense steps to combat toxic gamers. Last month, MS started a pilot program to record the voices of players who harass others. Now, an entire enforcement plan is being put in place.

Have you been a bad boy or girl? Been using profanity or spewing hate speech? Well, every nebulous infraction is attached to a point. The point system stacks up and eventually leads to suspensions.

Yes, Microsoft is treating your XBOX account like it is a driver’s license. Too many points accrue, and you lose access for up to 365 days.

Enforcement Stacking | User Journey

Each strike lasts six months, making it easy to stack up if you get mass flagged. Thankfully, Microsoft says it won’t mindlessly enforce strikes like YouTube does, “All reports are evaluated, there are no automated enforcement actions based solely on the fact that a report was made. No volume of inaccurate reports results in an enforcement.

Less than 1% of XBOX users have received temporary punishment. So, what’s the point of enacting such a wide-ranging list of potential offenses and suspensions?

With the new system, enforcements will also include strikes based on the severity of their actions. The system is similar to demerit strikes used in driver’s license systems in many countries. For example, a player that has received two strikes will be suspended from the platform for one day, whereas a player that receives four strikes will be suspended for seven days. Players have a total of eight strikes and, once reached, will be suspended from Xbox’s social features like messaging, parties and party chat, multiplayer and others for one year from the enforcement date.

It was already pretty standard for players to voice chat outside of Microsoft’s servers. These new measures could see in-game chat become barren.

‘Avengers’ Writer Jason Aaron Returns To DC Comics For ‘Batman: Off-World’

0

Award-winning comic book writer Jason Aaron is well-known to fans of the Marvel Universe. He has written for several of their iconic superheroes including Wolverine, the Punisher, Thor, and even participated in the 2018 relaunch of the Avengers. Aaron has also worked for DC Comics, working on titles such as John Constantine’s ‘Hellblazer’ in 2019.

He is now returning to DC Comics, telling IGN that he will write the new six-issue miniseries ‘Batman: Off-World’ with illustrator Jamie Mendoza.

“A routine night in Gotham City for a young Batman proves to be anything but routine when the crime-fighter is confronted with a sort of foe he’s never faced before—one from beyond the stars,” DC says in a description of the series. “A universe of possible alien threats leads Batman to make a daring decision—to venture alone into the far reaches of the cosmos for the very first time, where the Dark Knight will face the fight of his life! Superstar writer Jason Aaron delivers his first Batman story ever, partnered with blockbuster artist Doug Mahnke for a unique, brutal tale!”

This is not the first time the Dark Knight has gone on a celestial adventure. Writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Nick Derington took Bruce Wayne on a journey in ‘Batman Universe’ where he has a showdown with the immortal villain Vandal Savage.

In “Off-World,” Batman will deal with more extraterrestrial beings.

“I fell in love with comics because of DC,” Aaron told IGN in an interview. “The first books my young, beardless self ever plucked from a grocery store spinner rack were the New Teen Titans and World’s Finest and Batman. Books that opened the door to a universe of stories that would quite literally change the course of my life. So it is with great honor and excitement that at long last I get to make my proper debut as a DC writer, with a Batman story that takes a young Dark Knight on his own first journey into the far, wondrous reaches of the DC cosmos.”

Aaron previously worked on the 2008 Batman title ‘Joker’s Asylum: Penguin’ one-shot with artist Jason Pearson.
