Amazon Studios Drops Character Bios For ‘The Boys’ Spin-Off ‘Gen V’

Amazon Studios has released some interesting information on the main characters for their upcoming irreverent superhero television series ‘Gen V.’ Set in the world of ‘The Boys,’ this show will also make its way to the Prime Video streaming service and will show the next generation of heroes rising in that world.

“Set in the diabolical world of The Boys, Gen V expands the universe to Godolkin University, the prestigious superhero-only college where students train to be the next generation of heroes—preferably with lucrative endorsements,” Amazon said in a statement.

“You know what happens when supes go bad, but not all superheroes start out corrupt. Beyond the typical college chaos of finding oneself and partying, these kids are facing explosive situations … literally. As the students vie for popularity and good grades, it’s clear that the stakes are much higher when super powers are involved. When the group of young supes discover that something bigger and sinister is going on at school, they’re put to the test: Will they be the heroes or the villains of their stories,” they added.

They dropped some character descriptions to describe these super-powered humans:

  • Jaz Sinclair plays Marie Moreau, an 18-year-old superhero with the ability to control and weaponize her own blood. As an incoming freshman at Vought-run Godolkin University, she is eager to prove she has what it takes to join The Seven, but is sidetracked by a mystery she begins to unravel at the school.
  • Chance Perdomo plays Andre Anderson, a junior at Godolkin University with magnetic powers. He’s Golden Boy’s best friend and the son of famous superhero, Polarity; Andre has big shoes to fill as he’s set to take over the Polarity name once his dad retires. When Andre realizes that something is afoot at the school, he takes it into his own hands to try and figure out the mystery.
  • Lizze Broadway plays Emma Meyer, who is also known by her superhero name, Little Cricket, for her ability to get super small. Though insecure and naive, which often leaves her in compromising positions, she becomes close friends with her freshman roommate, Marie, and together they navigate the mysterious dangers at Godolkin University.
  • Shelley Conn plays Indira Shetty, the dean of Godolkin University. She doesn’t have powers, but her background in superhero psychology and her peerless ability to analyze what makes supes tick make her indispensable to the school. Her goal is to transform Godolkin University into the most elite college for supes and she takes a special interest in Marie when she arrives on campus.
  • Maddie Phillips plays Cate Dunlap, a junior at Godolkin University who is good friends with Jordan and Andre. Cate is able to push people to do anything she commands using the touch of her hands, which she uses to her advantage. Powerful and confident, she’s also Luke’s girlfriend, making her one of the most popular supes on campus.
  • London Thor and Derek Luh play Jordan Li, a competitive student at Godolkin University who will do anything to get to the top. They have a unique ability of changing between male and female forms, through which different powers manifest— the man is dense and indestructible, while the woman is agile and can launch energy blasts. Their distinct sets of powers make them a standout TA at Brink’s School of Crime Fighting.
  • Asa Germann plays Sam, a troubled supe who is desperately trying to escape his unfortunate circumstances. He’s extremely powerful, with super strength and invulnerability. Despite having a good heart, he’s plagued by his hallucinations, which sometimes make it hard for him to discern between what is—and is not—reality.
  • Patrick Schwarzenegger plays Luke Riordan, who is also known by his superhero name, Golden Boy, because of his ability to light his entire body on fire. He is a senior at Godolkin University and is in the top rank, having the brightest prospects of joining The Seven.
  • Sean Patrick Thomas plays Polarity, Andre’s father and largely celebrated Godolkin University alumnus and trustee. Polarity expects his son to follow in his footsteps by taking over the Polarity name when he retires. He believes Andre is destined for The Seven and will stop at nothing to make his dream become reality.
  • Clancy Brown plays Professor Rich “Brink” Brinkerhoff, a renowned professor of crime fighting at Godolkin University who taught superheroes such as A-Train, Queen Maeve, and The Deep. He is dedicated to finding the top new talent at Godolkin University to join The Seven, and believes Golden Boy has what it takes to be next.
  • Marco Pigossi plays Dr. Edison Cardosa, a gifted doctor with ties to Godolkin University

The fourth season of ‘The Boys’ has concluded filming.

Review: Ahsoka Series Premiere – Jedi Reacquainted

Ahsoka has come a long way since her first appearance in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. She was once an annoying padawan who was an apprentice to Anakin Skywalker but now has come into her own as a beloved character with a rich history in the Star Wars galaxy. The premiere episodes of the Ahsoka series for Disney Plus set up many interesting ideas and conflict, which comes as a result of the fall of the Empire from Return of the Jedi. There are many nods to the show Star Wars Rebels, which may require one to have seen in order to fully enjoy everything in here, but there are a lot of great things that make Ahsoka very interesting for everyone to dive into. Even if you’re not a die-hard Star Wars Rebels fan, you’ll be intrigued at what the series is aiming for.

The beginning of Ahsoka starts off slower in comparison to other Star Wars Disney Plus series. But there are many layers to the story, along with many continuations for characters that were prominent in Star Wars Rebels. The overarching plot of the show is focused on finding the location of Grand Admiral Thrawn and rescuing Ezra Bridger, after their disappearance at the end of Star Wars Rebels. But there’s also an interest in traveling to the unknown regions, areas of space we’ve never seen in Star Wars before.

The best parts of the premiere episodes are the lightsaber battles and action. Surprisingly, there are a lot of clashes with lightsabers in the first two episodes, with Ahsoka fighting droids and Sabine Wren fighting with a new villain Shin Hati. While the first episode is a slow burn when revealing details vital to the plot, both episodes do a good job of establishing Ahsoka as a force to be reckoned with. She has been around for a long time and has taken on the calmer demeanor we associate with Jedi masters. As the series goes on, we’re going to see a lot of Jedi in action, some of whom have survived big events like the Clone Wars and Order 66.

If you weren’t a fan of the musical choices for previous Star Wars shows, you’ll be pleased to know that Ahsoka is very different. The background music feels much more in line with both the Star Wars animated shows but also has great inspiration from the original Star Wars trilogy as well. In the calmer moments with characters talking, you can see beautiful shots that are accented by music scores that echo similar moments from A New Hope and Return of the Jedi. Some of the locations Ahsoka goes to even have similar visual nods to things seen in the original trilogy, including a meeting room for the New Republic that looks like the one straight out of Return of the Jedi. It makes everything feel more like classic Star Wars than other shows have in the past, even more so than The Mandalorian did in its early seasons.

One thing that does hold back the series is how slow some parts of the first two episodes play out. There are scenes where things feel slow-moving with how characters interact with things around them, often taking time to soak in the surroundings and their actions. For some people, there are moments that will drag a bit too long for comfort. But for others, there’s a lot of ground to cover in the relationship between characters since the finale of Star Wars Rebels.

While Rosario Dawson does a great job being a live-action Ahsoka, the rest of the cast also brings their A-game. Baylan Skoll and Shin Kati, played by the late Ray Stevenson and Ivanna Sakhno, are intriguing characters with a backstory that will definitely get revealed in later episodes. Their relation to the Jedi order and how much of a match they’ll make for Ahsoka are defined very early on, but in various ways that keep an air of mystery to both of them. Hera Syndulla is played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead and is a solid adaptation of her animation counterpart. She’s has a caring, yet firm presence as a general in the New Republic that has a very strong friendship with Ahsoka and Sabine. The rich history these characters have with each other is definitely hinted at in multiple ways that will make fans of Star Wars Rebels happy.

Natasha Liu Bordizzo is a big stand-out as the live-action version of Sabine Wren. She does a great job being the Mandalorian with an attitude that has been impacted by the loss of her close friend. Of course, there’s a ton of fan service with her that fans will spot easily, but she has the potential for a lot of growth as the series goes on. Her relationship with Ahsoka is going to become one of master and apprentice, which will most likely see her in more lightsaber fights with Shin and Baylan down the line. There’s also a few scenes with the fan-favorite droid Chopper that are brief. They are funny and will get a laugh out of Rebels fans, but don’t last long enough to have a big impact on the premiere episodes.

What the first two episodes of Ahsoka seem to lack is an emphasis on Ahsoka herself. Although from trailers we know we’re going to get more backstory and flashes of the past for Ahsoka, we don’t get anything like that in the first two episodes. There’s a greater emphasis on setting up the stakes for Ahsoka and her friends, as well as getting everyone reacquainted once again.

It’s a good choice for those who have not watched Star Wars Rebels or haven’t revisited the series in a long time, but it does take up a lot of time away from the title character. For some, this won’t be a big deal because it’s keeping things focused on the main plot now, rather than revisiting Ahsoka’s past or lingering on her for too long. We’re definitely going to get those moments in the series in future episodes, but there needed to be a foundation for the conflict of this show first.

Other interesting aspects of the start of this series is the continuous buildup of Grand Admiral Thrawn. Ahsoka begins with an opening crawl, a first for the Disney Plus shows, that reinforces the importance of Thrawn and why so many people are searching for him. He’s being treated like the next major antagonist that will cause all of the main players in the galaxy to converge at some point, both good and evil.

Baylan and Shin are working with Morgan Elsbeth, the former magistrate that Ahsoka captured during Season 2 of The Mandalorian, to bring Thrawn back from his exile. On the other hand, Hera and Ahsoka are doing what they can to prevent Thrawn from regrouping remnants of The Empire by preventing his return. It’s an interesting race between both groups that is bound to have dire consequences when we finally do see Grand Admiral Thrawn in the series.

Ahsoka is off to a good start with very minor things to harp on. Where the premiere episodes leave viewers by the end is definitely intriguing enough to keep them watching. The action with Ahsoka and other characters is exciting, while the presentation in both episodes is also very well done. The balance of good story and fan service is handled with care, without leaving newcomers in the dark about many things that have happened to these characters in previous shows. Star Wars fans will have another good show to look forward to watching every week, with some exciting things being promised to come soon. How crazy this story will get for Ahsoka is anyone’s guess for now, but you will definitely want to find out.

World Premiere of ‘Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget’ To Take Place At The BFI London Film Festival

After 23 years of waiting, the sequel to Aardman’s stop-motion classic Chicken Run is set to premiere this October! According to Variety, the 67th annual BFI London Film Festival will be the first place you can see the upcoming animated film before it’s available to the general public.

The date of the screening is October 14th. BFI members can see it at Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall or via select theatres in the UK. A membership will cost you £39 per year.

Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget will be available for all to see via Netflix on December 15th. Aardman’s latest feature-length animated film has a runtime of 1 hour and 37 minutes. While the original cast won’t return, several great actors, including Shazam’s Zachary Levi and West World’s Thandiwe Newton, have stepped in to fill the open roles.

The official synopsis for the film, as relayed via Empire, shows that even a happy ending isn’t permanent, even for emancipated chickens:

“Having pulled off a death-defying escape from Tweedy’s farm, Ginger has finally found her dream – a peaceful island sanctuary for the whole flock, far from the dangers of the human world. When she and Rocky hatch a little girl called Molly, Ginger’s happy ending seems complete. But back on the mainland the whole of chicken-kind faces a new and terrible threat. For Ginger and her team, even if it means putting their own hard-won freedom at risk – this time, they’re breaking in!”

It feels like forever ago, we last talked about Chicken Run. Last January is when we learned about the film’s new title. I can’t believe it took this long for a follow-up to be made. Then again, did the story need a sequel since it wrapped everything up so well in 2000?

Ubisoft To Aid In Microsoft’s Activision Blizzard Deal … For A Price

0

Microsoft’s quest to appease the United Kingdom’s Competition and Markets Authority has recruited an unlikely ally. Ubisoft has stepped in to help sweeten the deal for MS to purchase the powerhouse known as Activision Blizzard.

According to PC Mag, the helping hand comes at a price. To calm the CMA’s concerns that the acquisition would allow Microsoft to hold too much power in the game streaming market, Ubisoft will have non-exclusive rights to stream the Activision Blizzard libraries in the EU market.

Brad Smith, Microsoft’s President, believes this collaboration will appease the Competition and Markets Authority:

“As a result of the agreement with Ubisoft, Microsoft believes its proposed acquisition of Activision Blizzard presents a substantially different transaction under UK law than the transaction Microsoft submitted for the CMA’s consideration in 2022. Microsoft today has notified the restructured transaction to the CMA and anticipates that the CMA review processes can be completed before the 90-day extension in its acquisition agreement with Activision Blizzard expires on October 18.

Although, on the surface, the inclusion of Ubisoft’s role appears to solve the monopoly issue, the concession does not mean Microsoft will have an immediate greenlight. The authority’s Chief Executive, Sara Cardell, had the following to say:

This is not a green light. We will carefully and objectively assess the details of the restructured deal and its impact on competition, including in light of third-party comments. Our goal has not changed – any future decision on this new deal will ensure that the growing cloud gaming market continues to benefit from open and effective competition driving innovation and choice.

You know what’s going to happen ultimately, right? Microsoft will probably try to buy Ubisoft in the next ten years, especially if it loses the next gen’s console war.

What do you think about Ubisoft’s UK streaming rights to the Activision Blizzard library? Let us know below.

Moron Rushes Gamescom 2023 Stage Interrupting Geoff Keighley

Some people will do anything for attention. It never ceases to amaze anyone when something happens that can potentially ruin a special night and soak up the conversation online. This is nothing new in the games industry, where events like that can happen from time to time. People can think irrationally and do things that make not only themselves bad, but the games industry as well in the eyes of the general public. Such is the case during a presentation on stage at Gamescom 2023.

While host Geoff Keighley was on stage talking during the Gamescom Opening Night Live show, a random person jumped onto the stage and interrupted everything. The unidentified person tried to get onto the microphone that Geoff was holding and began shouting “I want to play GTA 6” repeatedly. The person continued to do so, bringing the event to a brief hold until they were removed from the stage. The crowd in the audience proceeded to boo the person and cheered when they were finally removed from the event.

Understandably, Geoff Keighley was a little annoyed and did his best to walk away from the person that jumped onto the stage. Trying to remain professional and keep things moving with the show, Geoff kept talking to the crowd and gave some thoughts before moving on to the next part of the presentation. “That’s just disappointing. This is such a special night for so many developers and it’s really disappointing to see someone act that way…” You can see clips of the moment online now since it happened live during Gamescom.

While it is still unconfirmed, the person in question appears to be someone who has done a similar thing on another broadcast. According to PC Gamer, back in 2021 an individual who looks similar to the one that interrupted Geoff Keighley ran into a broadcast for Beat the Star, a German game show. The person was also removed after hassling the hosts about GTA 6. Whether the person faced legal trouble or not has yet to be confirmed.

Luckily, nobody was hurt during the interruption nor was the show ruined. The response to everything online was expectedly disappointing. As Geoff Keighley mentioned on stage, it is disappointing to see some people act in a very selfish and immature way during a night that is supposed to celebrate video games for many people. All because they haven’t gotten to see or play a game they want.

What do you think of what happened at Gamescom? Should there be harsher punishments for those doing something like that? Did Geoff Keighley handle the sudden event professionally on stage? Let us know your thoughts about it in the comment section!

Konami Talks Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Resolution

A surprise reveal that was made alongside the announcement of Metal Gear Solid Delta was how Konami was putting together a collection of MGS games. Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Volume 1 brings together the first few Metal Gear Solid games, along with the VR Mission and Special Missions related to the first game. For many, this is a great compilation of classic stealth action games that have a massive fan base. And yet, MGS fans have wondered how will these games run on various platforms from the collection. Konami has now made a statement addressing many fans’ concerns.

In a statement sent over to IGN, Konami confirmed the specific resolution and frame rate for Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Volume 1. According to Konami, the target resolution and frame rate for the collection will be 1080p and 60fps for all platforms. At the same time, the Nintendo Switch version of the collection will run at 720p with 30fps in Switch handheld mode, while docked will have the collection running at 1080p and 30fps. Unfortunately, no platform will have the collection running any games at 4K resolution.

Following previews of the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Volume 1, some fans were concerned that each of the games wouldn’t run at an acceptable frame rate and resolution. Some outlets that got hands-on time with the collection expressed the same concern in their own previews. Hopefully, with the statement released by Konami, much of the worry can be put to rest and Konami can live up to their commitment to handling each of the games with care.

The Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Volume 1 is also going to have a lot of extra content for all the games included. Whether there will be anything brand new for this collection of Metal Gear games is unknown. In previous retro game collections from Konami, like the ones for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Castlevania, there was a lot of bonus content that gave deeper looks into the creation of those games and series. If fans are lucky and this MGS collection is able to sell very well, we might see Konami tackle a Volume 2 with some of the other Metal Gear Solid games not included in this collection.

What do you think of the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Volume 1? Will you be grabbing this collection and revisiting each of the games in it? What do you want to see Konami do with the Metal Gear series next? Let us know your thoughts about everything in the comment section down below!

Review: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre – Hunting with the Family

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was a classic horror film that was shocking when it was first released in 1974. It gave the world horror characters like Leatherface and horrific topics like cannibalism on film that freaked out audiences. In the years following its initial release, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre has received critical praise for how it managed to terrify audiences without being graphic, garnering a large fan base over time. And while there have been video games based on The Texas Chainsaw Massacre in the past, it’s only gotten a few video game renditions in recent years. Sumo Nottingham has developed the first game (for PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC) that goes far in recreating many of the elements from the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre film, allowing players to hunt victims or escape the family just like in the movie. Does it end up being a successful adaptation on PlayStation 5? In some ways yes, but in others, not so much.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is an asymmetrical survival horror game that pits two teams against each other. Unlike other games that are similar and use a horror movie license, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre doesn’t have one killer that everyone flees. Like in the original film, one team plays as members of Leatherface’s family, while the other play as victims. The teams are separated as 4 vs. 3, with more victims than killers. It’s a very different flow during gameplay than other horror games with only one killer, allowing teammates to work together in various ways to compensate for weaknesses when hunting victims. Yet on the other side of that, victims have to be much more cautious and work together to avoid multiple killers that can group up to take them out.

There are multiple family members and victims to play as, with a total of five options for both sides. Each character has their own abilities and weaknesses, with some definitely being more versatile than others. Everybody has their own stats with toughness, stealth, and specific proficiencies that factor into how they’ll impact a match. Overall, it can be tough controlling some characters during a match regardless of what team you end up playing as. It’s almost necessary to group up with another player if they’re playing a different character, especially if you’re playing as the family members. Every character moves at a somewhat sluggish pace, which can be a real problem when you’re trying to get away from a killer as one of the victims. The same can be said with the family members that can’t move very fast overall, despite being very helpful in doing other tasks outside of attacking.

But catching victims is not the only focus here for those who play as members of the family. A big part of matches for the family is gathering blood to give to Grandpa. This is important because the strength of Grandpa is directly tied to how easy it can be to find victims on the map. Family members can gather blood from canisters hidden on the map, or by attacking or killing victims with attacks. As they feed Grandpa blood and he grows levels, he’ll increase the power of family players and increase their awareness on the map, highlighting victim locations wherever they are hiding. In some cases, it can feel like matches are heavily tipped in the favor of the family because of this.

The toughest role to play in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is as one of the victims. A lot of teamwork with other players is necessary to successfully escape the map, and there are a lot of factors working against you. Every action you take from opening doors, searching for items, or moving around the area can trigger a sound and give away your position. Sometimes it can be to a huge detriment that not only will get you killed, but cost teammates the match. If everyone isn’t doing enough of their part to help escape, it can be nearly impossible to win. You’re also not given an indicator on where some objectives or key points are located, which can make it exceptionally difficult to interact with objects you need to find in order to win.

What makes some matches so difficult are the random hazards you have to deal with as a victim character. Noisy chickens, rattling bones that are hanging, and even metal doors and shutters can be your enemy. Getting spotted by the family fills up your screen with a haze that can make it difficult for you to see where you’re moving, which will often lead to your death. While this definitely falls within the overall theme of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, it can make it difficult to play. This is why it’s vital to stay hidden when playing as the victims because getting spotted is almost a guarantee that you’ll get killed. There are some things that victims can do to get away, including crawling through areas that family members can’t enter, but it’s not always a helpful solution.

But it’s not all good for the family members as well. Some characters are prevented from entering certain areas, like crawl spaces and cracks, despite it making no sense that they can’t do so. Large characters like Leatherface are physically unable to do things like that, but others like the Cook visually don’t look like they would have a problem doing so. So you’re forced to find another way around areas when pursuing victims or hope that another teammate can do the job for you.

When you’re not in matches, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre allows you to customize the characters you play as. Finishing matches gives EXP to level up and obtain skill points to spend on new abilities and modifiers, which can help give an extra edge in some ways. Some boosts may feel more relevant than others in some cases, but you have freedom when customizing every character with what boosts you want to focus on. However, you need to spend skill points wisely. Some branches on the skill tree can be locked off if you decide to go in one direction or another, preventing you from getting any boosts in that area.

Abilities you gain can be equipped to a character before entering a match, as well as special execution animations for family members and cosmetic outfits. Some executions and cosmetics have to be bought from the online store and can’t be unlocked by leveling up from gameplay, while others you can gain simply by using the character a set number of times.

Playing The Texas Chainsaw Massacre requires you to be online. You’re not able to create offline matches with anyone, but you can make private lobbies for games with friends who are online. But you’ll often be going into matchmaking and getting grouped with others who are playing the game online. Finding a match doesn’t take that long, but can drag a bit when everyone needs to get ready before a match. The countdown timer in the lobby prevents people from delaying the game for a long time, but you might find yourself getting stuck in a game with one or multiple players down on either team.

This definitely changes the dynamic of the matches for better or worse, which can heavily impact how things will go. For some, this won’t be a big deal, but for others, it can make things very frustrating. In addition, if you’re not on voice chat communicating with allies, it can make matches very difficult to win, since much of the game requires teamwork to get things done.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a game that will appeal to those who love the original movie or fans of horror. But it won’t be anything special for those who enjoy multiplayer games online. If you’re already familiar with asymmetrical games like this, you may find some enjoyment in diving into this faithful adaptation of the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre film. But beyond that, the experience you get in here won’t feel like anything that is beyond average.

What do you think of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre game? Are you a horror fan that loves to see video game renditions of classic horror movies? Let us know your thoughts about The Texas Chainsaw Massacre in the comments down below!

Head Back To The Future With The New Flux Capacitor Replica!

0

Factory Entertainment has more high-end prop replicas coming to the market. This time it’s the Flux Capacitor from Back to the Future. Doc Brown’s invention that makes time travel possible will cost you, though. $1,199.99.

Unfortunately, FE doesn’t provide a video of the Flux Capacitor in action. Why is this important? Because the last 1:1 replica we saw was from Diamond Select. It was priced at a couple of hundred dollars (far more now if you can find one), and it wasn’t screen-accurate in the least.

The DS version was the wrong color, and the LED lighting effects strobe instead of being in sequence. VideoBob covered this a few years ago.

It’s also worth noting that the FE version currently available for pre-order looks like a much darker-colored enclosure than the actual prop. Odd considering one of the selling points is how accurate this thing is supposed to be:

The Factory Entertainment team studied high resolution film footage from the series, scoured every available printed resource, and consulted with the foremost experts on the prop to create a 1:1 scale replica that is truly accurate. It features screen-accurate lights and sounds, as well as remote-controlled AC or battery operation for maximum display flexibility.

Thankfully, MCE captured footage of the Flux Capacitor in action at this year’s SDCC. Is it worth $1,199.99?

For an extra $300, you can get the Signature Edition of the famous prop signed by Christopher Lloyd. Only 300 of this version will be available, and they’ll ship in “early 2024.”

Sticker shock? Yeah. There are replicas elsewhere that are far less expensive. Nothing about the Flux Capacitor besides the enclosure should cost you more than a couple hundred dollars. Check Etsy if you want one on a budget.

National Cinema Day 2023 Brings $4 Tickets to Theaters

Going to the movies can get pretty expensive nowadays. The costs of movie tickets for any new film released in theaters can range from around $10 for a standard digital movie, to as high as $15 or more for IMAX and Dolby screenings. And that’s before getting anything from the concession stand, which only jacks up the price even further. But an upcoming national event for one day will allow everyone to visit the movie theater for a cheap ticket price. Going to a double feature sounds like a great idea when you’re getting tickets for what feels like a steal.

On Sunday, August 27th, 2023, movie theaters around the United States will be celebrating National Cinema Day. For that day only, more than 3000 movie theaters will be selling movie tickets for all releases at just $4 a ticket. This includes all formats and all releases that are currently in theaters, as well as a few classics getting a new theatrical run. The national event is to promote and encourage people to attend theaters, as well as celebrate many of the big releases that have been coming out recently.

Jackie Brenneman, the president of the Cinema Foundation, shared some thoughts with Variety about the upcoming event and how it will benefit theaters and everyone who loves going to the movies. “Following the rousing success of the first annual National Cinema Day, we welcome everyone to join us for the communal experience of one of America’s favorite pastimes… movie going… We look forward to gathering at the movies and celebrating an exciting slate of new releases and classics, from beloved family favorites and outrageous comedies to thought-provoking dramas and thrilling adventures. There’s something for everyone.”

This isn’t the first time an event like this is taking place. It’s actually the second annual National Cinema Day following the success of the first one to take place in 2022. During the first National Cinema Day, approximately 8.1 people attended went to the movies, according to the National Association of Theater Owners. This resulted in the highest attendance at the movies in 2022. Events like this that bring about sales for new releases are bound to attract more people who are looking to save in their households.

For 2023’s National Cinema Day, movie fans can get a chance to see new releases like TMNT: Mutant Mayhem, the Gran Turismo movie, and even the Barbie movie and Oppenheimer on the big screen. Luckily for those curious about it, the National Cinema Day event will include all film formats at participating theaters. So if you missed your chance to be part of the Barbenheimer craze, you can do so with a very nice discount. Although this event is happening in the midst of the ongoing WGA and SAGAFTRA strikes happening in Hollywood, it doesn’t affect movies that are already in theaters. Luckily those who have been on strike are not asking for anyone to boycott watching movies in theaters.

What do you think of National Cinema Day? Will you be watching anything fun on the big screen during the event? Should movie theaters have more promos and events that offer discounts on tickets? Let us know your thoughts about everything in the comment section down below!
