Moron Rushes Gamescom 2023 Stage Interrupting Geoff Keighley

Some people will do anything for attention. It never ceases to amaze anyone when something happens that can potentially ruin a special night and soak up the conversation online. This is nothing new in the games industry, where events like that can happen from time to time. People can think irrationally and do things that make not only themselves bad, but the games industry as well in the eyes of the general public. Such is the case during a presentation on stage at Gamescom 2023.

While host Geoff Keighley was on stage talking during the Gamescom Opening Night Live show, a random person jumped onto the stage and interrupted everything. The unidentified person tried to get onto the microphone that Geoff was holding and began shouting “I want to play GTA 6” repeatedly. The person continued to do so, bringing the event to a brief hold until they were removed from the stage. The crowd in the audience proceeded to boo the person and cheered when they were finally removed from the event.

Understandably, Geoff Keighley was a little annoyed and did his best to walk away from the person that jumped onto the stage. Trying to remain professional and keep things moving with the show, Geoff kept talking to the crowd and gave some thoughts before moving on to the next part of the presentation. “That’s just disappointing. This is such a special night for so many developers and it’s really disappointing to see someone act that way…” You can see clips of the moment online now since it happened live during Gamescom.

While it is still unconfirmed, the person in question appears to be someone who has done a similar thing on another broadcast. According to PC Gamer, back in 2021 an individual who looks similar to the one that interrupted Geoff Keighley ran into a broadcast for Beat the Star, a German game show. The person was also removed after hassling the hosts about GTA 6. Whether the person faced legal trouble or not has yet to be confirmed.

Luckily, nobody was hurt during the interruption nor was the show ruined. The response to everything online was expectedly disappointing. As Geoff Keighley mentioned on stage, it is disappointing to see some people act in a very selfish and immature way during a night that is supposed to celebrate video games for many people. All because they haven’t gotten to see or play a game they want.

What do you think of what happened at Gamescom? Should there be harsher punishments for those doing something like that? Did Geoff Keighley handle the sudden event professionally on stage? Let us know your thoughts about it in the comment section!
