It’s A Happy Happy Halloween with Mezco’s Silver Shamrock Trio

Happy Halloween from Silver Shamrock! Are you ready for the big giveaway? Make sure you have your masks, candy, television, and this new trio of Trick-Or-Treaters from Mezco!
These shouldn’t be confused with the Halloween III: Season of the Witch trio that NECA released not too long ago. Mezco’s Silver Shamrock kids are each 10″ tall and have five points of articulation. Unlike the previous figures, these kids don’t come with alternate melty heads. They do, however, feature some creepy eyes set far back into the masks. Ughhh…

Happy happy Halloween, Halloween, Halloween, happy happy Halloween…Silver Shamrock!
Based on their appearance in Halloween III: Season of the Witch, this boxed set features the three trick-or-treaters seen in the film – the witch, the skeleton, and the jack-o-lantern. Each trick-or-treater features an all-new head sculpt of their respective Silver Shamrock mask, and each comes with a trick-or-treat bag that they can hold in their right hand.
Each trick-or-treater stands 10” tall and feature 5 points of articulation. They are packaged together in a window box, perfect for display.
Don’t miss it, and don’t forget to wear your mask…

Halloween III: Season of the Witch is the best film in the franchise. It stars Tom Atkins for cryin’ out loud! The story departed from the slasher tropes and gave us a mixed bag of horror and science fiction. Unfortunately, it also ended on one of the eeriest cliffhangers, with the audience not knowing the fate of all the kids of the world who, for whatever reason, decided that these three masks were the only things they wanted to wear this Samhain.
While the ending of Halloween III leaves us in suspense, the novelization doesn’t spare us the fate of the children. Even little Buddy’s death is more graphic and gross in the book. If you can find a copy of it, give it a read. Unlike the standard adaptations, the novel tells us the story from Dr. Dan Challis’s point of view.
What do you think of these little doom Trick-or-Treaters? Let us know in the comments.

New ReAction Movie Monsters Figures Announced During Boodega

Super7’s Boodega kicked off today by announcing several new Universal and cult classic monster ReAction figures. Not only that, there will be new Misfits merchandise, too!
A blue glow-in-the-dark Metaluna Mutant from This Island Earth is first on the list. It was a terrible film but gave us one of science fiction’s most memorable alien designs. The Mutant with the suspiciously shaped cranium is $20.
The Creature From The Black Lagoon, Frankenstein’s Monster, The Mummy, and Wolf Man also get the glowy treatment along with funky coloring and packaging. Each of these Universal Monsters will be $20.
The Creature also gets two other ReAction figures, one with a broad body, the other is a bit slimmer. Unfortunately, these two do not have the glow-in-the-dark feature. Those guys will be $20 each.
The company is releasing a retro soft vinyl figure case for those of you who have been collecting Super7’s Misfits ReAction variants. Yep, just like those Kenner Star Wars days! Except this case comes with a Fiend! The case will be $50.

Artist Matt Ferguson Shares Insight Into His Work On The ‘Ghost in the Shell’ 4K Release

The 1995 fan-favorite anime film ‘Ghost in the Shell’ was recently released in 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray in the United Kingdom and Ireland. With the DVD comes promotional material featuring illustrations from Sheffield artist Matt Ferguson, who has worked on other franchises artwork including Marvel Studios’ ‘WandaVision’ and LucasFilm’s ‘Star Wars.’
He spoke with Funimation about his work on ‘Ghost in the Shell’ and identifies his favorite anime.
“Well, I had a conversation with the team at Funimation, they told me what they’d like,” he said on how he got the job. “If memory serves it was all about trying to evoke the serious tone of the film. Then I watched it and made note of sequences and elements that I liked. I really liked when Major’s body is built in the opening credits. That floating, featureless body was very affecting. So that’s where I jumped off from. It all spun out from that central theme of ‘what makes a person.’”
The interviewer asked what is the first thing that comes to mind when he thinks of ‘Ghost in the Shell,’ he replied, ” I’d say it would be that theme of what makes us who we are. It goes hand in hand with Blade Runner in that regard. So it’s not the visuals, or the action. It’s the deeper philosophical themes that I instantly think about.”
“It’s got a tone to it, very serious and dramatic. The world is meticulously thought out and it all seems very plausible. It’s also hugely influential, you see it in a lot of science fiction films and stories that have been made since its release,” he said on the importance of the anime flick.
When asked about his favorite anime, he answered that it was the 1988 cyberpunk feature ‘Akira.’
“It’s such an impactful film,” Ferguson explained. “I’d love to do some art for it one day. I also really love Studio Ghibli. Me and my daughter love watching Totoro.”

Salma Hayek Discusses Her Role In Marvel’s ‘Eternals’

As the release date for ‘Eternals’ fast approaches, Disney and Marvel Studios are working hard to build anticipation for their latest endeavor into the MCU’s Phase Four.
Actress Salma Hayek is set to portray Ajak the “mother figure” of the Eternals, working with them to stop an invasion of “deviants” onto the Earth. During a press junket picked up by the Marvel website, the ‘Like a Boss’ star discussed the Eternals and her roles in the film.
“Ajak is in charge to supervise them, bring them over,” Hayek explained. “She’s the leader of this group of people that have a mission, and it is my responsibility to make sure that it’s accomplished and that they behave.”
She added, “I control the information.”
“I decide what to tell them when I tell them because I’m the only one that can talk to the Celestials,” Hayek said.
“It’s also very exciting at 53, to get that random call, just got a movie from Marvel. Like now? She’s there just offering you a super hero. I’m, ‘Are you kidding me? This is a joke.’ A Mexican woman in her 50s, you just got a super hero character in the Marvel movie, and not the gran. Actually, it’s me who wanted to have that approach of leadership that it was more of a family,” she explained.
On her maternal relationship with the others, she said, “It’s a human way of seeing all these people; there’s a level of love, of caring, and empathy.”
Hayek continued, “I have a different relationship with each one of them like you do with your kids.”
You can watch the trailer below:

‘Eternals’ is set to be released on November 5, 2021. It is directed by Chloé Zhao and stars Hayek, Angelina Jolie, Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Lia McHugh, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Ridloff, Barry Keoghan, Don Lee, Harish Patel, and Kit Harington.
It is inspired by the Marvel Comics series ‘The Eternals’ created by Jack Kirby.

Get A ‘Flashdance’ Gremlin and Corvette Gizmo In This Accessory Pack

Today’s ’31 Nights of Fright’ from NECA came with an announcement that a Gremlins accessory pack is on the way in 2022. Based on the first Gremlins movie, this set comes with a Flashdance Gremlin and driving Gizmo.
We spotted this over at Figures.com. Gizmo is to scale with the Gremlin, meaning he is much smaller than the other Mogwai NECA has released in the past. What gets sacrificed as far as articulation is made up for the fact that Gizmo gets his own pink Corvette.
There are two Gizmos in this set—one seated for the car and a standing one. It looks like there’s a balljoint at each shoulder and probably a joint at the wrist for both. The legs are not articulated.
The Gremlin doesn’t only get to dress as Jennifer Beal. The little nasty trouble maker also comes with an egg and makeshift balaclava. You know … because 2′ tall monsters need a disguise when committing crimes.

The announcement did not include a price, nor has this set shown up on the typical collectibles websites. My guess would be this will go for $29.99. Too bad it won’t be released in time for Christma
What other Gremlins would you like to see NECA release in this scale or the larger versions? Let us know in the comments section.

Iconic X-Men Writer Chris Claremont Returns For ‘X-Men: Legends’

0

Comic book writer Chris Claremont is a fan-favorite of X-Men readers who co-created many legendary Marvel Comics characters including Rogue, Nightcrawler, Psylocke, Mystique. He also kicked off several spin-offs including the New Mutants and Excalibur as well as co-wrote the highly-acclaimed “Dark Phoenix Saga.”
Now, Claremont is returning to his roots with an entry into ‘X-Men: Legends’ with the twelfth issue, which he is partnering with artist Scot Eaton to write for Marvel.
“It’s always fun wandering back along existing pathways and especially having the opportunity to fill in a couple of nifty gaps that were initially skipped over along the way—closing off one significant story-arc and lighting the fire that ignites the series that follows,” Claremont told Marvel. “Talk about a treat!”
“Launched earlier this year, X-MEN LEGENDS has given some of the greatest X-Men creators in history the chance to revisit their classic runs with revelatory new tales that have astounded and delighted X-Men fans. And this February, Chris Claremont, the writer behind the franchise’s most influential works, will make his mark on the series in X-MEN LEGENDS #12,” they said in a statement.
They released the cover by Alan Davis on social media:

Marvel continued, “His long-awaited debut on the title will see the writer step back into his unparalleled run on UNCANNY X-MEN in a story set before the start of another one of his iconic works, EXCALIBUR. Teaming up with popular X-Men artist Scot Eaton, the groundbreaking writer will pen an all-new tale centered around the legendary characters he created and defined including Nightcrawler, Kitty Pryde, Mystique, and Destiny!”
“In the aftermath of “Fall of the Mutants,” the X-Men are dead. Or so the world believes. And Mystique seeks revenge on Forge for his role in the loss of Rogue. In order to stop her partner from making a grave mistake, Destiny will have to recruit Nightcrawler and Shadowcat who, injured as they are, must dig deep to find new strength and do what is right as the last X-Men standing,” Marvel added.

Josh Duhamel Discusses ‘Night of the Animated Dead’

Jason Axinn set out to do an animated remake of George Romero’s classic horror film ‘Night of the Living Dead’ in the form of ‘Night of the Animated Dead.’
Josh Duhamel, the actor taking over the role of Harry Cooper, spoke with Collider about the project and how he approached performing the character.
“I’m not a hardcore horror fan,” he said when asked about the pressures of remaking a “beloved” film. “I didn’t really feel a tremendous amount of pressure to deliver it. But I do like the idea of the challenge of trying to do something that has already been beloved for so many years. If you’re going to take a shot at it, sometimes you miss and sometimes you lose. I think that people ultimately appreciate the effort, whether they even realize it or not. And so for me, it’s not life or death. It’s just me out there trying to do something fun and new and a different spin on something that’s already been beloved for so long.”
When asked about how he approached the character, he replied, “I just felt like I wanted to try to play this guy as realistically as I could, considering the situation. He was the guy who was under a tremendous amount of pressure, uncertainty, stress, and fear, of not knowing what these things are wondering if his daughter has been infected by whatever these things have. And then, just trying to get through the night and trying to save his family, from whatever this is. From that came a guy who was opinionated and agitating and prickly.”
Duhamel continued, “But in my opinion, I don’t judge him for that. I just feel like, who wouldn’t be in that situation? If you’ve got a daughter who may or may not be dying in the basement, you’re gonna do whatever you can to save them. And that’s where I played it from.”
‘Night of the Animated Dead’ was released through Warner Bros. Animation and is now available to watch through video-on-demand.

Olivia Thirlby Talks ‘Dredd’ Sequel

0

‘Dredd’ rocked into movie theaters in 2012. Directed by Pete Travis, the film starred Karl Urban as Judge Dredd, a comic book character in the dystopian future city of Mega-City One. In the film’s plot, he is evaluating new recruit Judge Cassandra Anderson played by Olivia Thirlby when a druglord traps them in an apartment complex.
While it underperformed at the box office, its home video sales sealed its status as a cult classic and would spark talks of a possible sequel that never materialized.
In an interview with Collider, Thirlby discussed the possibility of a sequel and how she is “all for it” even after a decade.
“First of all, let me just say, I was always the number one advocate of getting a sequel for Dredd. I love that movie and I love that character. If there is still talk of there being a sequel 10 years later, I am all for it,” she said. “What that gesture is about at the end, she’s bowing out of her ambition. She’s bowing out of a drive that she had to be an A student, to be perfect and to be the one who’s doing it right. I think she’s learned that the world is way too messy for her to have a personal investment in being shiny and important and in control.”
Thirlby continued, “Whatever that would yield for her in her journey as a person, maybe her journey as a judge, I couldn’t say. That would have to be in the mind of whomever was telling her story onward. But I would like to think that she would continue being a judge.”
She also expressed a desire for ‘Dredd’ writer and producer Alex Garland to return should a sequel go into production.
“I just also have to take a second and shout out Alex Garland because the Anderson that he wrote was so thoughtful and sensitive and nuanced and empowered and powerful, not because she was trying to be Dredd or be like a man, but because she was exactly herself and that journey of her finding herself and her true strength is what I love so much about that movie and what I felt like, as an actor, it was so meaty to lean into that role,” Thirlby explained. “If we’re gonna talk about a sequel to Dredd, we have to also whisper to the gods of the film universe that Alex Garland be part of that.”
Urban repeatedly stated that sequels were in various stages of production, including in 2017 where he was set to play Judge Dredd in a television series, but it never fully entered production.
