Mondo To Release a 12″ Masters of the Universe ScareGlow Figure!

Scareglow was possibly the last significant figure from the original Masters of the Universe toyline. He-Man was sputtering out of popularity, but Scareglow brought me back into the world of Eternia for one last allowance purchase.
Mondo is taking Scareglow’s classic look and introducing him into the 12″ line of MotU figures. From the glow-in-the-dark feature to the ax and down to the fabulous purple cape, he looks just like he lept off the shelf at Toys R Us.
Scareglow comes with some of his retro accessories and one that came about during the Matty Collector Classics line. That particular item is the Greyskull Reliquary and key to Castle Greyskull. So yes, there are other ways into the Castle other than the jawbridge.
No sooner was Scareglow announced than his pre-orders were sold out. These Mondo MotU figures go fast. Luckily they usually get a refresh later on. So, keep an eye out and keep a spare $220 handy. This guy will ship sometime during the Spring of 2022.

Cursed in life, frightening in death, and glowing in the darkness! Featuring over 30 points of articulation, removable/poseable fabric cape, a glow in the dark, Scythe of Doom, and more, Scareglow is the most terrifying figure this side of the 5 dimensions!

We’re eagerly awaiting the official announcement of Mondo’s other MotU figure: She-Ra. She will no doubt be highly sought after. We know a certain redhead who will be scooping one up, especially if She-Ra comes with brushable hair.

Fisher-Price’s Chatter Telephone Now Makes Real Phone Calls!

0

Have you always wanted to make and receive calls with a phone that comes complete with a rotary dial, wheels, and a big friendly smiling face? You have? How odd, because Fisher-Price has precisely the item for you. It’s the new and improved Chatter Phone that acts like an actual phone!
OK, technically, it is a Bluetooth accessory, but look at that little guy! I want to bring him into a meeting at corporate, put him on the conference table, and make big executive-level decisions while his eyes wiggle back and forth!
We spotted the news of this toy’s release over at PC Mag. The Chatter Telephone was supposed to launch exclusively at BestBuy today, but the product page says it is “coming soon.” So, I’m not sure if it sold out or the release window changed. Regardless, the phone with wheels and wobbly eyes is $60.
The company knows exactly what cynical adults would think of this product. And I love it! It is the ultimate no-frills phone. Think of a flip phone from 2003, but on a PrimeCo plan.

Fisher-Price

Introducing the special edition Fisher-Price® Chatter Telephone™ — a phone smart enough not to come with any apps. Its intuitive bulky face design comes with a “super-advanced” rotary dial and connects to your mobile device via Bluetooth® wireless technology, so you can make and receive real calls through your existing phone plan. This working Chatter Telephone™ is so mobile, it even comes with wheels. Plus, it has grownup functionality like speakerphone and the ability to dial out. Your childhood is calling, now you can actually answer. Available exclusively at Best Buy® while supplies last.

I fully endorse this trend. The Star Trek communicator had the Bluetooth feature, too, as did the Next Generation Star Fleet badge. While not practical, these are fun novelties. That is unless you’re like me and stock your office full of these and use them regularly to annoy your co-workers.
What do you think of a child’s toy now having the ability to make actual phone calls? Fun gimmick or pathway to unspeakable horrors like in Poltergeist II?

Studio Ghibli Film ‘Earwig and the Witch’ Is Heading To Netflix

0

Netflix is adding the Studio Ghibli anime film ‘Earwig and the Witch’ to its growing catalogue of Japanese content, though it will not be included in the regions of Japan or the United States. It is expected to be released on the platform on November 18, 2021.
According to the Netflix synopsis, “‘Earwig and the Witch’ tells the story of a headstrong young girl, who grew up in an orphanage and her life changes dramatically when a strange couple takes her in, and she is forced to live with a selfish witch.”
Movie director Goro Miyazaki expressed his enthusiasm for the CGI anime being added to the Netflix streaming service in a press release.
“We’re thrilled that our film Earwig and the Witch will reach many countries and territories through Netflix,” he said. “The film is Studio Ghibli’s first fully 3D CGI film which prompted us with an exciting challenge to reflect the spirit and pride of our studio using this new artform. Through that experience we met Earwig, our rebellious protagonist who grows to overcome difficulties with her wits and relentless energy. We hope you will come to love our Earwig, just like you enjoyed spending time with the main characters in our last 21 films. Today, the world is forced to continue its journey into a chaotic era. We hope this film will inspire our children who live long into the future.”
Director of Animation Film at Netflix Aram Yacoubian added, “We’re incredibly fortunate to continue expanding the Studio Ghibli film lineup on Netflix by streaming Earwig and the Witch. The highly anticipated new film of Goro Miyazaki will bring a fresh perspective to the wildly popular Studio Ghibli films. In countries and territories where we stream Studio Ghibli films (excluding US and Japan), 55M households have chosen to watch a Studio Ghibli film on Netflix since 2020, and that number will only continue to grow. We’ve been blown away by the positive reactions from viewers everywhere, proving that stories can come from anywhere, and can be loved everywhere.”
Originally released in 2020, the ‘Earwig and the Witch’ is based on a novel by Diana Wynne Jones and stars Shinobu Terajima, Etsushi Toyokawa, Gaku Hamada, and Kokoro Hirasawa as the voice cast.

Bruce Willis Set To Star in Tubi Original Film ‘Corrective Measures’

‘Die Hard’ actor Bruce Willis is set to appear in the Tubi original film ‘Corrective Measures,’ a movie directed, written, and produced by Sean Patrick O’Reilly. This continues Tubi’s aggressive expansion of its streaming service catalogue with a host of new content.
‘Corrective Measures’ is a science fiction action film based on Grant Chastain’s Arcana graphic novel and takes place in a deadly prison. Besides Willis, the movie also features Michael Rooker (Guardians of the Galaxy), Hayley Sales (Deadpool 2), Kevin Zegers (Nighthawks), Tom Cavanagh (Be The Light), Daniel Cudmore (X-Men: Days of Future Past), Dan Payne (Watchmen), Matthew Kevin Anderson (Death Note), Kat Ruston (Cannibal Lipstick), Brennan Mejia (Kaboom), and Chris Wood (The Last Will and Testament of Charles Abernathy).
The plot “takes place at San Tiburon, an Ubermax prison hidden in the Great Northwest, resided by monsters, cyborgs, and supervillains, all equipped with 24-hour power inhibitors and shock-collars. Most notorious among them is Julius “The Lobe” Loeb (Willis), a super genius sitting on an untraceable fortune. Warden Devlin (Rooker) is arguably as corrupt as his charges, with his sole interest in The Lobe’s riches, and has been trying to crack The Lobe for years without success. The fragile peace of the prison is thrown into chaos with the arrival of Payback (Dan Payne, “Watchmen”), a murderous vigilante with red intentions on the entire prison community, and Diego Diaz (Brennan Mejia, “Power Rangers”), a driver on a trumped-up sentence. As tensions among the inmates and staff heighten, anarchy engulfs the prison and order is turned upside down.”
Producer Michelle O’Reilly said in a press release, “‘Corrective Measures’ is a project I’ve been wanting to see come to life from the pages of Arcana’s graphic novel series for a long time.” She continued, “Overseeing this project from script to screen has been an incredible journey, and to have my live-action directing debut at this level with so many talented cast and crew is truly a dream come true. Directing, writing, and producing ‘Corrective Measures’ was such an incredible experience and I cannot think of a better partner than FOX and Tubi for Arcana’s launch into live-action productions.”
Though the movie does not yet have a release date, it is said to have its streaming premiere on Tubi in 2022.

ThreeZero Delivers Another Awesome AutoBot: Optimus Prime

Optimus Prime is joining Bumblebee thanks to a new figure from ThreeZero, who we previously covered here. The studio continues to produce Transformers that callback to the G1 designs and update the characters to have a more real-world feel.
Prime stands at 7″ tall and sports 48 points of articulation. Best of all, he’s not going to break the bank, at least not in comparison to the other toys I typically cover here. Optimus Prime will be $80 and will ship during the Summer of 2022, according to Sideshow.

The Transformers MDLX line of figures are based on the original 1980s The Transformers cartoon and toy line, as redesigned by Threezero Art Director Kelvin Sau. The iconic designs have been remixed to incorporate Threezero’s hyper-detailed mechanical aesthetic, offering a familiar and exciting new presentation. Transformers MDLX figures feature Threezero’s unique die-cast zinc alloy and engineer-grade plastic frame system, which retains the tactile playability and durability of the figure.
Transformers – MDLX Optimus Prime is approximately 7” (178 mm) tall, with approximately 48 points of articulation and a die-cast metal frame. Accessories include Ion Blaster, Energon Axe, Autobot Matrix of Leadership, and five pairs of interchangeable hands.

Prime has the following features and accessories:

  • ~48 Points of Articulation
  • Zinc alloy and metal Parts

Accessories:

  • One (1) Ion Blaster
  • One (1) Energon Axe
  • One (1) Autobot Matrix of Leadership
  • Five (5) pairs of interchangeable hands:
    • One (1) pair of posed hand
    • One (1) pair of fists
    • One (1) pair for holding the ax
    • One (1) pair for holding the blaster
    • One (1) pair for holding the Creation Matrix

Prime has all the bits that make him unmistakably the Autobot leader of legend, but there’s something about that head. He looks a little too much like something Bandai would stick on a Gunpla model. There’s nothing wrong with it, but the angles and elongated antenna feel out of place. Odd considering how ThreeZero nailed both heads for Bumblebee.

Metal Slug’s Marco and Tarma Get Awesome Looking Action Figures

Tunshi Studio has been working on figures based on Metal Slug 3 for years, and they’re finally on the way! Today we saw that Marco, Tarma, and two rebel soldiers were finally made public.
The figures popped up over at Big Bad Toy Store. These guys are a bit on the pricier side, ranging in price between $119 to $189, but look at all that detail! Each figure comes with soft goods clothing, multiple weapons, heads, hands, and accessories. All five should be arriving during the second quarter of 2022.
Judging by the joints, these guys should be capable of pulling off nearly every pose we’ve seen in the long-running game franchise. If Tunshi Studio keeps making these, I hope we get fat Marco or at least zombie Marco. Oh, and I’m sure the original Metal Slug will be great looking, if not an expensive bit of tat.

After a year in development, Tunshi Studio is proud to present the 1/12 scale Metal Slug 3 FIGURES. ThESE figure haVE multi-joint action body specifically designed to recreate the shape from the game. The stylized cartoon head carvings, finely crafted clothes, and abundant accessories make the characters vivid and you can make various poses of action figures in Metal Slug 3. The small-scale action figureS launched by Tunshi Studio strictly abides by the size of 1/12th scale. Tunshi Studio will bring the players back to the classic scene of the game with a series of products developed in the future insisting on the concept of the original shape and saluting to the classics.

I’m digging how well the artists captured the artistic style of the character portraits that showed up in Metal Slug 2. There’s so much to explore with this franchise that I’m surprised that it hasn’t already been mined by other companies like Super7.
What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments.

Darkseid of Snyder’s Cut of ‘Justice League’ Immortalized in Polystone

0

As he appeared in Zack Snyder’s cut of Justice League, Darkseid is getting his own statue from Iron Studios. Darkseid’s statue is 13″ tall and will run you $199. Unfortunately, his eyes do not light up, which feels like a bit of a missed opportunity. His eyes were almost always ablaze and ready to fire an Omega Beam in his scenes.
The ruler of Apokolips will be arriving sometime between October and December 2022.

  • Features:
    Limited edition
  • Based on original references
  • Made in polystone – *(may contain parts in resin, polystone, PVC, metal, and fabric)
  • Hand-painted
  • Product dimensions: 13.7 in (H) x 6.7 in (W) x 6.7 in (D)
  • Product Weight: 4 lbs

There’s no mistaking that this is Darkseid, but now that I can look at a static model of him, a few things don’t look right. Where is his monobrow/forehead cliff? Why is his color scheme so drab? Even Thanos got many of his typical colors in the MCU. Would it kill the art director to grant Darkseid some purples and blues?

What are your thoughts on how Darkseid was represented in the true version of Justice League?

Batman Prequel ‘Pennyworth’ Ditching Epix For HBO Max

0

Taking place before he becomes the dedicated butler and surrogate father to the Batman, ‘Pennyworth’ stars Jack Bannon as Alfred in an alternate universe where he works with Thomas Wayne in fighting an evil secret society. Its first two seasons on Epix, but at 2021’s DC Fandome, it was announced that the television show would be moved to the HBO Max streaming service.
Warner Media said in a press release that “HBO Max announced today at DC FanDome that season three of the hit DC series PENNYWORTH, from Warner Bros. Television, will debut in 2022 as a Max Original. The first two seasons will also be available on the platform in early 2022.”
The show has also been renewed for a third season that will stream exclusive to HBO Max and will also jump ahead in the timeline.
“The DC origin series PENNYWORTH follows Alfred Pennyworth (Jack Bannon), a former British SAS soldier, who forms a security company in 1960s London and goes to work with young billionaire Thomas Wayne (Ben Aldridge), before he becomes Bruce Wayne’s father,” Warner Media explained. “Season three of the psychological thriller also stars Emma Paetz, Paloma Faith, Ryan Fletcher, Dorothy Atkinson, Ramon Tikaram, Harriet Slater and Simon Manyonda. Season three begins after a five-year time jump: the civil war is over, and a cultural revolution has changed the world for better or worse – ushering in a new age of Super Heroes and Supervillains.”
‘Pennyworth’ is produced by ‘CSI: Miami’ producer Danny Cannon and Bruno Heller, who also produced the unrelated show ‘Gotham,’ which shows a younger Bruce Wayne and Detective Gordon.
You can check out the DC Fandom 2021 ‘Pennyworth’ panel below:

The show’s premise is described by Wikipedia as:
“‘Pennyworth’ explores the early life of the titular Wayne family butler, Alfred Pennyworth, a former British SAS soldier who is forming his own security company in an alternate universe in which Hitler and Nazi Germany won World War II, and in which London combines aspects of the 1950s and 1960s with invented events and practices, such as a modern civil war and televised public executions.
Alfred becomes a target of the Raven Society, a group conspiring to take over the British government, and begins working against them alongside American agents of the No Name League, Thomas Wayne and Martha Kane, the future parents of Bruce Wayne.
