Batman Prequel ‘Pennyworth’ Ditching Epix For HBO Max

Taking place before he becomes the dedicated butler and surrogate father to the Batman, ‘Pennyworth’ stars Jack Bannon as Alfred in an alternate universe where he works with Thomas Wayne in fighting an evil secret society. Its first two seasons on Epix, but at 2021’s DC Fandome, it was announced that the television show would be moved to the HBO Max streaming service.
Warner Media said in a press release that “HBO Max announced today at DC FanDome that season three of the hit DC series PENNYWORTH, from Warner Bros. Television, will debut in 2022 as a Max Original. The first two seasons will also be available on the platform in early 2022.”
The show has also been renewed for a third season that will stream exclusive to HBO Max and will also jump ahead in the timeline.
“The DC origin series PENNYWORTH follows Alfred Pennyworth (Jack Bannon), a former British SAS soldier, who forms a security company in 1960s London and goes to work with young billionaire Thomas Wayne (Ben Aldridge), before he becomes Bruce Wayne’s father,” Warner Media explained. “Season three of the psychological thriller also stars Emma Paetz, Paloma Faith, Ryan Fletcher, Dorothy Atkinson, Ramon Tikaram, Harriet Slater and Simon Manyonda. Season three begins after a five-year time jump: the civil war is over, and a cultural revolution has changed the world for better or worse – ushering in a new age of Super Heroes and Supervillains.”
‘Pennyworth’ is produced by ‘CSI: Miami’ producer Danny Cannon and Bruno Heller, who also produced the unrelated show ‘Gotham,’ which shows a younger Bruce Wayne and Detective Gordon.

The show’s premise is described by Wikipedia as:
“‘Pennyworth’ explores the early life of the titular Wayne family butler, Alfred Pennyworth, a former British SAS soldier who is forming his own security company in an alternate universe in which Hitler and Nazi Germany won World War II, and in which London combines aspects of the 1950s and 1960s with invented events and practices, such as a modern civil war and televised public executions.
Alfred becomes a target of the Raven Society, a group conspiring to take over the British government, and begins working against them alongside American agents of the No Name League, Thomas Wayne and Martha Kane, the future parents of Bruce Wayne.
