New ‘Earthworm Jim’ Animated Series in the Works

A new Earthworm Jim animated tv series has recently been announced to be in development. Interplay Entertainment Corp, who own the rights to the Earthworm Jim games, has partnered with APA to bring the series to life. Interplay is setting up to develop new TV and film projects after forming a new TV and film division. This division will be lead by Michel K. Parandi. Parandi will be working with producer Aaron Billet and animation studio Passion Pictures. Marc Bodin-Joyeux will be the producer to help develop the newly formed division with the properties TV and film content creation.

The new series reboot, titled “Earthworm Jim, Beyond the Groovy“, will follow the adventures of Jim, a worm in a futuristic robotic suit who fights evildoers. The series will also bring in new characters as they navigate the galaxy, where each planet is home to a race of anthropomorphic animals. Jim’s ultimate quest is to find his true home among the stars: a near-mythical planet called Earth.

“I remember loving ‘Earthworm Jim’ as a kid. And there’s so much potential in this story universe: a galaxy full of animals battling for power,” Parandi says. “Jim is an earthworm in a universe where Earth is nothing more than a myth. His struggle to find meaning is surreal and comical, but it’s also relatable.”

“We are thrilled for the opportunity to create a show for an iconic character that we grew up both playing on Genesis, and watching on TV. The fans have matured and deserve a current take as we bring in new audiences.”
-Aaron Billet

Interplay has responded to a question as to whether the original creator of Earthworm Jim, Doug TenNapel, would be involved with the creation of this series in a tweet:
