Wattpad Webtoons Expands Their Animation Studio Devision

After the success of animation originals based on highly successful webcomics, Wattpad Webtoon Studios has announced its expansion with a new animation division, bringing on new hires and promotions across its international film and television studios. A fan-driven global entertainment and publishing arm for Webtoon and Wattpad, the Studio has also formed a new Global Animation division under former head of Webtoon Studios executive Taylor Grant. Grant will be overseeing IP development on all animated film and television projects, as well as serving as executive producer on the upcoming animated adaption of Rachel Smythe’s webtoon series Lore Olympus, co-produced with the Jim Henson Company.

Grant has an extensive history as a writer, working for companies such as Nelvana and Saban Entertainment. He co-created the 1998 animated series Monster Farm and helped develop the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. He has also been a development executive for Stan Lee Media and director of west coast operations for Miramax. In 2020, he wrote a webtoon comic called Rot & Ruin, which received over 13 million reads on the Webtoons website.

Along with Grant joining the new animation division, Lindsey Weems Ramey has been promoted to head of Global Film, while TV executive Sera Tabb has been hired as Global Television. Tabb has previously held positions at Skydance Media, Sony Pictures Television, Picture Perfect Federation, and United Talent Agency. Ramey’s latest works includes a new feature film called Float, which is based on a Wattpad romance story of the same name written by Kate Marchant.

Grant, Tabb and Ramey will all report to the studio’s newly appointed head of Global Entertainment, television and film producer David Madden, who oversees development, production, and sales for the studio’s global TV, feature film, and animation businesses.

Sydney Bright has been hired as director of development. Bright previously served as director of development and producer at Seriously Digital Entertainment. Bright also led animation development and production teams, working on such shows like Bob’s Burgers and Brickleberry.

“Millions of fans around the world have fallen in love with the storytelling on Webtoon and Wattpad,” said Aron Levitz, President, Wattpad Webtoon Studios. “These are incredible narratives that have created massive global fan communities, built around creative storytellers whose work is changing the landscape for comics and fiction everywhere. We’ve put together a world-class team to bring this content to market and bring those fan communities their favorite stories in new formats. With David at the helm, and Sera, Taylor, and Lindsey heading up our newly formed divisions, we’ll continue to make some of the most exciting entertainment on the planet.“

Animated works that have come from Wattpad Webtoons Studio includes Tower of God, Noblesse, and The God of High School. They can be found on Crunchyroll, HBO Max, as well as other platforms. The Studio currently has over 100 projects either in development or in production worldwide.
