DC Comics Releases Collected Edition Of “The Joker Volume 1” Comic Book

0

DC Comics announced that the Clown Prince of Crime’s solo series from writer James Tynion IV and artist Guillem March is getting its own collected edition in the form of ‘The Joker Vol. 1.’ The first five issues and a few tie-ins will be featured in the graphic novel.
“The first collection of the Joker’s ongoing series is a noir-influenced story that hangs on one killer question: Will Jim Gordon finally do what Batman never could and put the Clown Prince down for good,” DC Comics said on their website. “‘The Joker Vol. 1’ contains the first five issues of James Tynion IV’s Joker series, illustrated by Guillem March, plus a few additional short story tie-ins from recent Batman comics. It’s a gritty Joker tale, of which there is certainly no shortage, but this one’s a little different.”
They also released the image of the graphic novel’s cover:

“Tynion’s Joker is compelling and tense. However, its focus is not on the rivalry between the Clown Prince and Batman, but the Joker and Gotham’s former police commissioner, James Gordon. Gordon has myriad reasons to hate Joker, and unlike Batman, has finally reached a point where permanently ending him is a viable solution,” DC Comics continued. “While TV’s Gordon-centric Gotham gave us a young Jim, The Joker gives us an older, more jaded Jim. He’s retired as police commissioner and rejected Harvey Bullock’s offer to join him in the private eye biz, but he’s not quite ready to relax.”
“Though the narrative can occasionally meander through Jim’s past and conflicting thoughts, the convergence of mysteries makes it a real page-turner with each flashback providing further insight into what’s really been going on in our trusty lawman’s head. Jim’s narration is both moody and introspective. It’s a wordy comic, and those who love a film noir will feel right at home. The art is detailed and realistic, often visceral in its depictions of carnage,” they add.
‘The Joker Vol. 1’ is available now in book stores and digitally.

Udon Releases New Robotech Visual Archives

0

Harmony Gold released the first ‘Robotech Visual Archive: The Macross Saga’ that follows the first series and delivers a sort of history of the first season of the show. It has several images including the mechs used to battle off the alien invaders who have arrived on Earth.
As a follow-up, Udon Comics is releasing two new guides that will cover the second and third seasons of the Robotech series as well as releasing a second edition of the first book.
“Udon’s follow up books to the Robotech Visual Archive are now here, and they cover the Robotech Masters and New Generation in painstaking new detail,” Robotech announced on their website. “‘Robotech Visual Archive: Southern Cross’ and ‘Robotech Visual Archive: Genesis Climber Mospeada’ cover the second and third story arcs of Robotech, and feature new research, pre-production art and carefully restored illustrations from the production of the hit 80’s anime! Additional artwork unearthed by Robotech superfan Roger Harkavy are also included, new peeks into Mospeada that were never seen by the public until his discovery.”
They continued, “Even longtime anime fans who already have Japanese artbooks from Southern Cross and Mospeada will benefit from the Visual Archive books, because Udon has translated all the captions from the Japanese pre-production art into English!”

Udon said on their website “ROBOTECH is a sweeping science-fiction anime epic in which humans use a vast arsenal of transforming robotic mecha to defend the Earth against alien domination. The franchise has captivated fans for over 30 years, and is widely credited with popularizing anime around the world.”
Udon describes the second edition of the first Visual Archive as “the ultimate collection of artwork gathered from Robotech’s first and beloved era ― The Macross Saga. Included in this epic tome are mecha designs, character artwork, pre-production concepts, key art, storyboards, a full episode guide, and more!”

Netflix Reveals the Cast for One Piece Live Action Series

0

Earlier in the year it was announced that a One Piece Netflix live action series was in the works with very little information being released. On Tuesday evening, the official Twitter account for One Piece Netflix released a short video of the cast members set to play the part of the 5 Straw Hat crew members, including Japanese subtitles within the video.

They also released Wanted Posters for each cast member:

Inaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy
Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro
Emily Rudd as Nami
Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp
Taz Skylar as Sanji

The official One Piece Netflix Twitter page shared a message from the series creator, and executive producer of the live acton adaption, Eiichiro Oda:

Steven Maeda is the co-writer, executive producer, and showrunner, with Matt Owens also co-writing and executive producing. Other executive producers for the series are Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements of Tomorrow Studios. Netflix One Piece is a co-production between Netflix and Tomorrow Studios, with Netflix handling physical production.

“We are so excited to set sail with this amazing and talented cast. Finding the right people to pull off the looks, emotions, and actions of the iconic Straw Hats was a long and challenging (and fun!) process. Much like the search for the One Piece itself. But we have finally found the perfect fits! They have already begun working very hard to bring these characters to life. You will come to know and love them just as much as their manga counterparts. All of us can’t wait to show you what we’ve come up with! Onward to adventure!”
Maeda & Owens

IMDB gives a summary of the plot:

An alternate version of Earth, and one that is currently in the midst of the ‘Golden Age of Pirates’. Ruthless cut-throat pirates rule the seas, and only the strongest have the chance to lay claim to the mythical treasure known as ‘One Piece’ that was left behind by the greatest pirate of them all Gol D. Roger. Years after the death of Gol D. Roger, a young boy by the name of Monkey D. Luffy has dreams of raising his own crew, finding One Piece, and declaring himself as Pirate King. After eating a devil fruit that grants Luffy the power to make his body like rubber, it gives him enormous strength and agility. When Luffy finally comes of age, he sets sail from Foosha Village in East Blue and sets upon his grand adventure to become the next Pirate King.

IMDB also provides most of the episode titles of the Netflix live-action adaption:

Episode 1: Romance Dawn

Episode 5: A frog into the well
Episode 6: Arms and sharks

Colin Trevorrow Announces ‘Jurassic World: Dominion’ Is Completed

‘Safety Not Guaranteed’ director and co-writer Colin Trevorrow made the huge announcement on social media that ‘Jurassic World: Dominion’ has concluded its production.
“Last night we put the last bit of reverb on the last roar. Thanks to Al Nelson, Gwen Whittle, Pete Horner, Chris Boyes and everyone at Skywalker Sound for putting so much heart and soul into our mix for #JurassicWorldDominion. It is alive,” he said on Twitter.

It will mark the sixth film in the Universal Pictures ‘Jurassic Park’ franchise that was originally kicked off by ‘Jaws’ director Steven Spielberg. Trevorrow had previously directed the fourth film ‘Jurassic World.’
According to Slash Film, the shooting had a bit of trouble during the pandemic as lockdown policies caused the production to be shut down for four months.
“The blockbuster began lensing in February of 2020, then got shut down on March due to the pandemic, and thanks to a handy insurance loophole (no longer available for post-Covid productions) was able to resume shooting four months later with proper (and expensive) protocols in place,” they reported.
The dinosaur epic is now set for a June 10, 2022 release date. It features an ensemble cast of returning cast from across the six movies including Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, Daniella Pineda, Isabella Sermon, Justice Smith, Omar Sy, and BD Wong.
Dern told People about the returning cast saying, “It was an amazing thing to join my original cast members and go down memory lane, from that experience in the beginning of a franchise through the whole course of these films together with all the key cast members who have been working on these movies, as well as [director] Colin Trevorrow and Steven Spielberg, who is like family to me.”
Steven Spielberg is joining the film as an executive producer.

New Gorillaz Figures Are Ready For ‘Strange Timez’ In Space

Superplastic will be releasing four figures based on the Gorillaz Song Machine video ‘Strange Timez.’ Set for sometime between February and April 2022, Noodle, Russel, Murdoc, and 2D are decked out in spacesuits and feature glowing eyes.
The vinyl figures do not feature any articulation, but Murdoc and Noodle both come with “anti-gravity” bases. Each character is 12″ tall and can be pre-ordered as a set for $420 through Sideshow.

2D, Murdoc, Noodle & Russel are prepared for ‘Strange Timez’ in spacesuits and jetpacks with light-up eyes and special gravity-defying tools for Murdoc and Noodle! Suited up in the drippiest 12-inches of vinyl, don’t miss your chance to add the Gorillaz: Spacesuit Set to your Superplastic collection.

The music video isn’t as memorable as others over the past couple of years, but the song is the typical Gorillaz fare.
The fictional band debuted their first album in 2001 and sparked an interesting success story. Over the years, the band members have grown, changed, and evolved. Within the past couple of years, 2D’s eyes now appear white instead of black, while Noodle has had one hell of an arc that is partially outlined in the band’s biography Rise of the Ogre. But, of course, Russel is no longer haunted by his late friends, and Murdoc is … still Murdoc.
There’s a lot of effort put into a band that doesn’t exist. Who would have thought what had been an early ’00s curiosity would turn into such a phenomenon that has managed to last two decades?
The merchandising has been bland, at least here in the US. There are some figures, t-shirts, and whatsits. But, unlike other IPs, you don’t see kids Halloween costumes of the band members or breakfast cereals. Though … would you really want to eat something with the Gorillaz branding on it?

Marvel Comics Unveils First Look For ‘King Conan’

0

Marvel Comics announced a new adaption of novelist Robert E. Howard’s fantasy character Conan the Barbarian, which will explore the hero’s “last stand at the edge of the world.” Marvel revealed the series will be written by Jason Aaron with art from Mahmud Asrar and coloring from Matt Wilson.
“Jason Aaron and Mahmud Asrar return to the saga of CONAN in an all-new adventure that takes the story of the Cimmerian further than has ever been revealed in ANY media to date! As Robert E. Howard posited, when King Conan grows restless on the throne, he sails west, toward land and adventure unknown,” Marvel said in a blog post. “Now see the first step of King Conan’s fateful journey from Aquilonia, as an old and terrible danger threatens to end the saga of the Cimmerian once and for all in KING CONAN #1!”
They add that the comic book series ” arrives with the might of the Cimmerian’s hallowed history behind it.”
Marvel also released some “first look” images from the first few pages:

As D-Rezzed previously reported, Jason Aaron spoke with Newsarama about the comic book series.
“I knew as soon as Mahmud, Matt and I finished ‘The Life and Death of Conan’ in Conan the Barbarian, one of the absolute personal highlights from my career as a comic book writer, that I wasn’t done hanging out with everyone’s favorite Cimmerian.” He said, “As King Conan rode into the sunset at the end of that story, with his son, Prince Conn, by his side, I always knew where I wanted that story to take us next.”
Aaron added, “Now, at last, comes that next chapter, as Mahmud, Matt and I reunite to reveal a pivotal moment in Conan’s life as a king, as a father, as a mortal enemy of snake-worshipping Stygian wizards and as a barbarian who was born to chase the wind, even to the ends of the earth.”

S.H.MonsterArts Reboots Godzilla Singular Point’s Jet Jaguar

Jet Jaguar! The silent size-changing robot found itself with a new body and voice in Netflix’s Godzilla Singular Point anime. So naturally, Bandai sprang on the opportunity to turn the newly remodeled hero into an S.H.MonsterArts action figure.
Standing at 6.3″ tall, Jet Jaguar comes with all the articulation you’d expect from a Bandai figure. Unfortunately, he is also as pricy as you’d expect at $109.99 at the Big Bad Toy Store. He’ll be arriving in May 2022.
The redesign is interesting. Jet Jaguar is now less humanoid and more robotic with a large barrel chest. He looks a little bit like Tetsujin 28 now, but with a red, white, and yellow paint scheme.

From the Godzilla Singular Point anime series come an S.H.MonsterArts figure of Jet Jaguar! This fully articulated figure has been recreated with great detail and features weapons and accessories featured in the anime.

Jet Jaguar comes with all this in the box:

  • Jet Jaguar figure
  • Alternate hands
  • Anglias Spear
  • Jetpack
  • Yun Arikawa figure
  • 2 Antennae
  • Flight mode support pillar and stand

Now, everyone sing along!

Jet Jaguar first appeared in Godzilla vs. Megalon. It’s a somewhat silly entry in the Toho Godzilla series in the 1970s. However, as seen above, the character was more memorable when the film got riffed by the MST3K crew.
I wonder. Since the American Godzilla films have now tackled MechaGodzilla, King Kong, Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidorah, when will we see a dark and gritty Jet Jaguar on the big screen? Also, given that the plot of the last film was thrown out of the window so we could have monkey VS lizard action, would it even matter how/when/where/why Jet Jaguar came into the story?

Arcade1Up Now Offering ‘Kids & Kids at Heart’ Pac-Man Bundle

In August, we covered Arcade1Up’s new kid-sized arcade cabinets. With big buttons and plenty of soft plastic, it’s kinda like a Fisher-Price “My First Arcade” setup. Now, Arcade1Up is offering a bundle for Kids & Kids at Heart. This set comes with the new tiny Pac-Man machine and the full-size cabinet for $599.99.

Arcade1Up
The smaller machine comes with Pac-Man, Dig Dug, and Galaga. The full-size cabinet is packed with 12 Namco games, including Mappy, Galaga, and several Pac-Man titles. This combo pack of retro-goodness will start shipping in late November.

Arcade1Up Jr. is a 3-foot-tall, kid-sized arcade cabinet with oversized buttons, an eye-level 8-inch screen, and a lightweight, but sturdy, design – just the right size for those early years and it fits snuggly in kiddie corners everywhere. Arcade1Up Jr. PAC-MAN™ comes with the classic retro games PAC-MAN™, DIG DUG™, and GALAGA™.
For the big kids, we have the BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment Legacy Edition arcade machine. The marquee game, PAC-MAN™, is just the start of the phenomenal line-up of 12 classic games that will bring you right back to the golden age of arcade gaming.

I’ve been modding several Arcade1Up cabinets over the past month. With a bit of tweaking and a Raspberry Pi, you could turn the tiny Pac-Man machine into a retro gaming powerhouse for your kid. But, I wonder how that giant joystick would fare while trying to play Marvel VS Capcom?
What are your thoughts on these child-sized arcade machines? A gateway to retro gaming for kids or a potential insta-regret purchase? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.

New Homelander Figure and The Boy’s Featurette ‘Seven on 7’

Another month has gone by, and a new Vought-sponsored Seven on 7 newscast is out. We can all trust news coming from the same company that made murderous superheroes and supervillains, right?
Seven on 7 unabashedly spoofs major corporate media and the host, Cameron Coleman, sounds suspiciously like Tucker Carlson. Who can you trust when the news is bought and paid for by such a shady company? Go full-on Alex Jones, of course!
The spoof news broadcast fills us in on what is going on between the second and third seasons of Amazon’s The Boys. We’re introduced to a new character, Crimson Countess, along with some more teasing of Vought’s likely push to make Soldier Boy the new-ish face of The Seven.
There’s also some more lampooning of how huge companies advertise to specific communities and manage to trivialize their struggles. So yes, there’s more “Brave Maeve” stuff. Now she has her own Inclusive Kingdom area at Vought Land: The Super Park.

Speaking of the face of The Seven, what will become of our wayward homicidal “hero” Homelander? First, he lost his Nazi girlfriend. Then, he lost the mother of his child. His kid is now in protective custody. Well, he gets zero screen time in this Seven on 7 video, but we found out he is getting a new figure from Star Ace Toys Ltd.
This 1/6th scale Homelander can be pre-ordered now over at Sideshow. And yes, he does come with a bottle of breast milk—you dirty, dirty people.

Sideshow
Homelander will be $280 and will ship sometime between May and July 2022. Here’s what you’ll get in the box:
Head

  • One (1) portrait with serious expression and light-up eyes function

Body

  • One (1) seamless body with over 30 points of articulation

Hands

  • One (1) pair of open hands
  • One (1) pair of hands for resting on hips
  • One (1) right hand for holding milk bottle
  • One (1) right hand for holding photo

Costume

  • One (1) jumpsuit uniform with printed detail
  • One (1) pair of shoulder armor
  • One (1) belt
  • One (1) cloak
  • One (1) pair of boots

Accessories

  • One (1) milk bottle
  • One (1) photo album
  • One (1) vial of Compound V
  • One (1) figure stand
