The 4K ‘Ghostbusters Ultimate Collection’ Skips The 2016 Reboot?

1

Looking to get all the Ghostbusters films in 4K in one place? Oh, let me rephrase that. Are ya looking for all the good Ghostbusters movies in 4K in one place? Then Walmart has just the thing for your this coming February.
We spotted this first over at Ghostbusters News. Walmart currently has a listing for this gift set which is missing a particular movie. Unfortunately, Paul Feig’s misfire, Ghostbusters: Answer The Call, doesn’t look to be included in this $88.99 gift set. How sad. Oh, what a loss. Jesus wept.
Honestly, this is probably because the set focuses on the original Ghostbusters universe and Afterlife. Throwing in a reboot wouldn’t make a lot of sense. From what we can tell, the collection includes:

  • Ghostbusters (1984)
  • Ghostbusters II
  • Ghostbusters Afterlife
  • Making Ghostbusters booklet
  • Collector’s Ghost Trap Box
  • A case with two additional discs, possibly extra features or documentaries.
Walmart.com
I’m not sure what the two disks in the fourth case will be We speculated about them being documentaries, but it is too hard to tell due to the low resolution of the available image. Each film comes with a second disc which is probably loaded with extra features. So, maybe these are something new? Perhaps this Ultimate Collection also includes the documentary Cleanin’ Up the Town: Remembering Ghostbusters?
Either way, I had been holding off on buying the 4K versions of the first two films because I knew something like this was bound to happen once Afterlife hit the home video market. Given the price point on Walmart’s website, I wouldn’t expect more than what we see there. Don’t expect the ghost trap case to light up or anything.
What I do hope for is that each movie vase is at least a steel book. I’ve noticed that many of my older blu-ray cases have become very brittle in recent years. Does anyone else have this issue? My old DVD cases are just fine, but the translucent blue ones are just cracking left and right.

Empire’s February Issue Features Three Alternate The Batman Covers

0

The Batman is a few months from smashing into theatres. So far, we’ve seen a bunch of LEGO sets, Hotwheels cars, and the revelation that the new Bruce Wayne was inspired by a Nirvana song. Now the Dark Knight and Catwoman will be gracing the cover of the February issue of Empire.
Had I not been given the context of who was on the second cover, I’d never guessed that it was Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman. Unfortunately, aside from the whip, there’s not much else that reminds me of Batman’s love interest.
Subscription holders will get the exclusive variant by Jock. Everyone else can either pick up an issue at newsstands or pre-order them here. This issue will be out in three days on December 23rd.

The Batman will be in theatres on March 4th, 2022. Directed by Matt Reeves, this version of the Dark Knight takes a much deeper turn. Rather than being a playboy millionaire, Bruce Wayne is a recluse who has been hard at work manufacturing the tools he needs for his war against Gotham’s seedy underbelly.
Catwoman appears to be more or less untouched as she seems to be an amalgamation of a few variants of the character, but the Riddler has undergone a drastic overhaul. Rather than being an eccentric, riddle-themed villain, Edward Nigma’s new interpretation has him acting more like the Zodiac Killer than Frank Gorshin.
Batman’s gadgets and vehicles appear to be much more DIY than Apple this time around. For example, the Batmobile looks like something you’d find in Fast and the Furious, bulky and functional without a bunch of bat symbols or sleek lines.
We’ve come a long way from the over-engineered arsenal we saw in Batman & Robin, for better or for worse. So could this gritty restart of the Batman franchise breath new life into a hero who has seen so many ups and downs over nearly one hundred years? Let us know in the comments section below.

The Batman’s Matt Reeves: Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne Inspired By Kurt Cobain

0

According to the film’s director Matt Reeves, Robert Pattinson’s turn as Batman’s daytime alter-ego Bruce Wayne was inspired by a Nirvana song. In an interview with Empire, the upcoming The Batman movie director states that “Something In The Way” was playing while he opened the first act.
“Something In The Way” was part of Nirvana’s 1991 album ‘Nevermind.’  Sung by the band’s late frontman Kurt Cobain, the song is melancholy, bordering on somber, fitting considering the upfront dark tone this new Batman flick is taking.
Reeves expanded on the revelation saying,

That’s when it came to me that, rather than make Bruce Wayne the playboy version we’ve seen before, there’s another version who had gone through a great tragedy and become a recluse. So I started making this connection to Gus Van Sant’s Last Days, and the idea of this fictionalized version of Kurt Cobain being in this kind of decaying manor.

I can dig it. Bale and Keaton had moroseness written into their versions of Bruce Wayne, but we’ve yet to see a genuinely reclusive man behind the mask. With no other guidance aside from Alfred, will this Batman break the code that keeps him one level above the criminals he batters?
We’ll find out on March 4th next year. We already know that the Riddler is much more sinister this time around, looking more like the Zodiac Killer than the rogue Frank Gorshin made so iconic in the 1960s. At least Reeves didn’t go the route that Gotham did. How did that show managed to waste so many opportunities?!
If you’re having trouble remembering what “Something In The Way” sounded like, I’ve linked the song below from the band’s official YouTube channel.

What are your thoughts on the darker Dark Knight? A move in the right direction after Bale, Affleck, and Keaton? Or is going too deep into the abyss a recipe for disaster? Let us know your opinions in the comments section.

Team Up Sleepy Time RoboCop With NECA’s Talking ED-209!

At the end of November, we showed off NECA’s new Ultimate Robocop that features his sleepytime chair and the official likeness of Peter Weller’s face. While this figure is perfectly fine on its own, it’s hard to have an exciting display set up if it’s just Robo taking a nap.
NECA knew that Detroits cybernetic officer needed a friend to play with. So, during the Summer of 2022, ED-209 will be arriving to give Alex Murphy a workout. Oh, and this 10″ tall, sometimes malfunctioning robot will also talk! According to the Big Bad Toy Store, ED-209 will be $94.99

NECA

NECA

ED-209 is incredibly detailed and features an articulated head, legs that slide up and down, hinged arm wing panels, and poseable cannon arms. ED-209 also features movie-accurate sound effects and dialogue! Press a button and hear hydraulic machinery sounds, the metallic growl “Warning: throw down your weapon. You have 15 seconds to comply” and more!

The full range of sound effects and voice clips for ED-209 has not been announced aside from the few in the description. Odds are everything that should be included is probably from the mechanoids introductory clip from the first film:

Thankfully, it looks like NECA is providing the proper amount of articulation the figure needs. Sure, the enforcement droid wasn’t very nimble in the film, especially when it came to stairs, but he should be capable of a few dynamic poses. If nothing else, you should be able to recreate his little foot wiggle right before his tumble.
I hope NECA makes a little accessory bag that comes with the shot-up body of Mr. Kinney. There’s a Super7 ReAction figure of him, but I’d like to have something in the same 7″ scale. Maybe even throw in a replica of the Detroit model the poor executive lands on, too.
What do you think of this ED-209 figure? Let us know in the comments section below.

ThreeZero Teams With ‘Stranger Things’ Dustin and Eleven Figures

ThreeZero has a new license to apply its highly detailed artistry to. Stranger Things is joining the likes of Transformers, The Walking Dead, and Rambo in the company’s line of 1/6th scale action figures. The first of these figures available from Sideshow is Dustin Henderson and Eleven, as she appears in the original season of Netflix’s successful series.
Since these are 1/6th scale figures, Dustin and Eleven will be a bit below 12″ tall. Both will come in at about 9.2″ tall and feature cloth outfits and various accessories. The figures are available individually for $168 each. The likeness of Millie Bobby Brown is stunning, while Gaten Matarazzo’s is a bit bland. However, Gaten has a memorable smile. Oddly, ThreeZero went with the “duh” face instead.

The Only Good Garfield Is A Freeny’s Hidden Dissectibles Garfield

Mighty Jaxx has teamed up with Nickelodeon and Jim Davis to produce a new line of Freeny’s Hidden Dissectibles. So yes, if Garfield bothered you before, now you can double down on his eerieness by seeing him half-dissected in several different poses.
Each Garfield is $12.99 and can be ordered from Mighty Jaxx directly, or you can find them in the wild.
These are great if you’re a fan of vivisection. Or if you detest the sloth-like cat and imagine him meeting a grisly demise, or at the very least ending up like a more severe version of Two-Face.
This first series is comprised of six figurines and one chase figure. Unfortunately, since these are blind bag/blind box toys, you’ll have to buy a bunch of them to complete the set, hopefully. Well, if you spot them at a Walmart or Target, odds are someone has already ripped a bunch of them open, looking for the ones he/she is missing. Yeah, people suck.
Where exactly does this series go after this first wave? Please tell me that Series 2 is all Nermal. Or all Odie. Or all Jon. Why do I know who all of these characters are?! Am I trapped in some sort of Gorefield nightmare? Help!

Garfield. He somehow maintains relevance even though the heyday of Garfield merchandise was over thirty years ago. Since then, the character has taken on a meme status. The orange feline has also become a target of parody by those who question where precisely the comedy is in the comic strips.

What do you think of Garfield and why is it unending rage? Why do you think the Garfield brand has lasted so long? Is it a pact with an unspeakable evil? Let us know in the comments section below.

The Upcoming Paramount+ Halo TV Series? Don’t Worry. It’s Not Canon.

Halo’s videogame lore fans can rest safe knowing that the Parmount+ series set to debut next year is not canon. Kiki Wolfkill, who oversees 343’s transmedia projects, clarified that the TV series and game storylines are independent.
Much like how Paramount now has the original and ‘Kelvin’ timelines for Star Trek, the series based on Microsoft’s long-running flagship title will be given a title differentiating it from the established property. The series that will appear on Paramount’s streaming series will take place in the ‘Halo Silver Timeline’ according to an interview found on Halopedia’s Twitter account.
This should not be too surprising. As we’ve seen with many adaptations from anime or video games to other mediums, some characters have undergone noticeable changes that set them apart from the originals. For example, with Cowboy Bebop, there were numerous weird changes to the race and sex of characters. However, with Halo, the most noticeable is the changing skin color of Captain Keyes, who will be played by Danny Sapani (Harlots).
Rather than making these changes and ignoring questions about the TV series being in the same universe as the games, 343 clarifies that right out of the gate. Hopefully, this will limit any potentially toxic fans from crapping their pants when the series premieres next year.

This announcement means that the creative time behind the TV series has much more freedom to explore and alter characters in (hopefully) meaningful ways. However, if they turn Master Chief into a cowardly clown who runs away from the battle to hide on a long-forgotten planet, I’ll pass.
If anything has been learned from The Last Jedi or Cowboy Bebop, you do not antagonize the fans. You’re upfront with them. They may be vocal, but that is because they’ve invested not only time but money into a franchise. The proven recipe for failure is dismissing their concerns and thinking topical sociopolitical messages are suitable for character development.

What do you think of the upcoming series? Let us know in the comments.

X-Men’s Apocalypse Is Ancient But Still Tears Things Up In This Statue

0

It would appear Iron Studios have no plans on stopping when it comes to classic X-MEN statues. I’m not complaining, as I grew up reading mainly Uncanny X-MEN and Wolverine in the ’80s. However, seeing the mutants, both heroic and villainous, get statues celebrating their iconic status is refreshing when all of the post-modern media attempts to tear characters down.
The newest edition to the mutant dioramas depicts the super-being known as Apocalypse (En Sabah Nur). The ancient mutant is a devastating force as he is tearing apart a sentinel with one hand.
Or, if you prefer, showing off his powers of molecular manipulation by forming his arm into a cannon. Either, or if you pick up this deluxe Apocalypse statue for $349.99. He’ll be demanding your subservience in the fourth quarter of 2022.

With his massive gray body encased in armor created by the race of cosmic giants called the Celestials, the ancient Egyptian mutant uses his ability to control the molecules of his own body to shape his right fist of a plasma cannon or a large tapered combat drill. Showing all his fury and power, the Eternal Pharaoh, considered the first mutant of humanity, presents himself triumphant over a base full of wreckage and pieces of mechanical parts from the remains of a robotic Sentinel.

Apocalypse has yet to be successfully realized on film. Yes, we did get that X-MEN movie where Ivan Ooze pretended to be the god-like mutant, but the sooner we forget about that travesty, the better. Maybe he’ll be the big bad for Phase V of the MCU … if it ever gets there.
Let us all hope that we get a scene like this in the MCU version:

Why? Because it is problematic for some and because we haven’t had a sexy version of Rogue on-screen yet!

Relive The Early 2000s With Marvel Legends Series 1 Hulk!

Hasbro is continuing to delve into the origins of the Marvel Legends line by releasing another character from the long-running toylines first series. Hasbro Pulse announced that The Incredible Hulk would be joining Iron Man and Captain America figures next year with retro packaging and comic book backdrop.
Hulk will come with a ground-pounding effect base and two interchangeable heads. He is a bit of a pricy boy, too. Banner’s gamma-fueled rage monster is listed at $43.99. That’s more than twice as much as he cost in the early 2000s.
He can be pre-ordered directly from Hasbro now and has a release date of May 2022.

The Toy Biz Legends figures were hit or miss with faces. The team nailed them a lot of the time, especially when it came to actor likenesses. Then there were the oddities like nearly every female figure in the line. After Hasbro took over the line, there were trade-offs with quality in the overall builds and face sculpts.
Then there’s this Hulk. The original Legends Hulk had only an angry yelling face, but the weirdness was with the eyes. He looked like he was wearing mascara. He was going through a bad breakup or had just gotten home from a very interesting party. Hasbro left out the weird wash with this new release, but the face looks familiar…

Nora Denney?!
Warner Bros.
Yes, Mike Teevee’s mom from the classic Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory! Maybe this is Mrs. Teevee’s alter ego when someone points out that she doesn’t know as much about classical music as she says. Of course, we all know that the tune Wonka plays is NOT Rachmaninoff!
What do you think of the new figures based on the first Legends series? Are the prices of these figures deterring collectors? Let us know in the comments section below.

New Makoto Shinkai Movie is Revealed

0

At the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo a press conference was held to announce the new movie by Makoto Shinkai. The new movie is called “Suzume no Tojimari“, which translates to “Suzume’s Door-Locking“. The anime movie is set to open in Japan in the fall of 2022.

The director, screenwriter, and original story creator, Makoto Shinkai describes the movie as action-oriented film, set in modern day times. The main character is 17 year old Suzume who comes from a quiet Kyushu town. Suzume meets a young man who is looking for a door. They find a door within ruins in the mountain, and Suzume opens it. Soon, more doors begin to open around Japan, bringing disasters from the other side. The film depicts Suzume’s liberation and growth, as she closes the doors that are causing disaster.

Makoto Shinkai noted three important points about the film: It is a road movie that takes place all over Japan, a story about “closing doors” as opposed to “opening doors”, and a reason to visit the movie theaters.

After fans saw the movies “Your Name” and “Weathering With You“, Shinkai would get requests for his next movie to showcase their town. So Shinkai tried to think of a way to show different parts of Japan in one movie. A move he admits to being indulgent, making this a very audacious film.

Unlike opening doors, Shinkai explained that closing doors could refer to identifying individual opportunities that we lost and finding proper closure in order to move forward. Starting something can be easier than ending something.

Makoto Shinkai wanted to create a film that would bring people to the movie theater. Streaming has become the norm and easy to enjoy on your own time. But there is something special about being a dark room with a big screen, the feeling of being so immersed in a story through the visuals and sounds.

Mone Kamishiraishi, who voice Mitsuha in “Your Name“, and Nana Mori, who voiced Hina in “Weathering With You“, were also guest speakers at the press conference. Both of them explained having already seen the storyboards for the film and gave their impressions of the story and what they took from the messaging of the film and what it meant to them.

Makoto Shinkai’s other anime films include 5 Centimeters Per Second, Voices of a Distant Star, She and Her Cat, The Place Promised in Our Early Days, The Garden of Words, and Children Who Chase Lost Voices.
