ALIEN’s Xenomorph Returns To The One:12 Collective As A Concept

Mezco is dipping back into the world of ALIEN with a new Xenomorph based on the original concepts for the creature. The Big Chap is now translucent but sports a seamless body construction that eliminates the joints you’d typically see in action figures.
The Xeno is priced at $100 and will start shipping during the second quarter of 2022.

The One:12 Collective Alien “Concept Edition” features a seamless body designed with an internal skeleton armature that creates the feel of the creature’s suit from the film’s developmental stages. The aggressive eponymous creature has a hinged jaw with interchangeable inner mouths, as well as an interchangeable chest plate pierced by the ASSO-400 Harpoon Grappling Gun, as seen in the final scene of the movie.

The concept version of the Big Chap comes with the following:

  • One (1) open Ovomorph egg
  • One (1) closed Ovomoph egg
  • One (1) coiled Facehugger
  • One (1) open Facehugger
  • One (1) Chestburster
  • One (1) One:12 Collective display base with logo
  • One (1) One:12 Collective adjustable display post

The Big Chap will come with all the same accessories as the screen version of the figure we covered in August. The difference is now the character and accessories are molded to have a “semiopaque, milky look.”
Yeah, that’s the only thing that ever grossed me out in the ALIEN franchise was the milky stuff found in the synthetics. Ugh. It’s probably because I wouldn’t say I like milk and the idea of being covered in that stuff. Just give the artificial lifeforms red fluids!
I’ve often wondered if the Xenomorph from Ridley Scott’s 1979 ALIEN would have had the same impact if it had more closely matched H.R. Giger’s original concepts. Those early designs contained visible eyes and a much more elongated head.
What always struck me as menacing about the Xeno was that you couldn’t see the eyesockets under need the dome. Instead, you were facing what appeared to be an unseeing blank surface with metallic teeth and the deadly inner mandible. Would audiences have felt the same terror if the creature had visible eyes?

New G.I. Joe Minimates On The Way From Diamond Select

Diamond Select has announced a new boxset for the first series in their G.I. Joe line of Minimates. Snake Eyes, Roadblock, Duke, and Scarlett kick off the official first batch of 2″ tall miniature figures with 16 points of articulation.
Rather than coming in the window box typical of this line, the Joes will be packed in what looks like a cardboard ammo box. Each figure will be packaged individually on a blister card paying homage to those Hasbro days of the early 1980s. In addition, the Joes all come with a signature weapon.

A Diamond Select Toys release! Yo, Joe! The first series of G.I. Joe Minimates features some of the Joe team’s most popular characters in some seriously stylin’ packaging! Snake Eyes, Scarlett, Duke and Roadblock each come packaged on a full-color blister card, styled after the vintage cardbacks of old, and all four cards come packaged in a full-color box.

I was unaware that Minimates were still around. Years ago, you’d see them everywhere. Once Toys R Us shut down, they sort of vanished from my area. Maybe Florida bumkins aren’t civilized enough for stylized miniatures of classic comic books and television characters?

I’ve noticed that only a select number of G.I. Joe and Cobra characters appear to make it back on the marketplace. Hasbro’s 6″ line is solving that, somewhat, but when was the last time you remember seeing Shipwreck or Sub-Zero figures? Give these guys some love!
G.I. Joe Classified should have an entire line dedicated to the Joes who show up in the classic Fensler Films parodies. Give them cartoon-accurate paint jobs, too.

These Nendoroid Skeletor and He-Man Figures Are Adorably Stubby

Slated for August 2022, the Good Smile Company will be bringing us two new figures in the Nendoroid line of collectibles. We’re getting short, stubby, and adorable versions of He-Man and Skeletor!
We spotted these cute chubby guys over at the Big Bad Toy Store. Skeletor and He-Man are sold separately, and both are priced at $70.99. The two do feature some articulation, but given that they’re both just under 4″ tall and have stylized body types, don’t expect to get a whole bunch of dynamic poses out of them.
Keep in mind that these two Nendoroid figures are based on Kevin Smith’s Masters of the Universe: Revelation series that appeared on Netflix. Therefore, some design changes reflect that show rather than the Filmation series or Mattel toyline.

Although both figures are priced the same, He-Man gets a lot more when it comes to accessories and swappable parts. In addition, good Smile Company, rather than producing multiple Skeletor heads, has opted to have his jaw and eyebrows articulate.

Yes, he also lights up in specific spots. Maybe I wasn’t paying attention during Infinity War, but I never noticed Spidey had lights under his chest and around his waistline.

Queen Studios’ 1:1 life-size Iron Spider statue stands at 192cm tall, and captures the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man as he appears in Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Infinity War. Crafted from polystone, the team have painstakingly sculpted the limited edition collectible with breathtaking accuracy, reproducing every line and contour. Finally, Queen Studios’ artists have expertly painted the statue to capture the armor’s metallic blue and red look with gold trim.

He is made out of polystone. So, there’s no fabric whatsoever to worry about. I remember when the first Spider-Man movie came out and reading about the buyer’s remorse some people were having after buying the life-size Spidey that had a fabric costume. Apparently, the webbing deteriorated quickly. You won’t have that problem with a solid piece of polystone.
Wanna know the best news? They don’t ship to the US! Well, if you wanted this thing, it is terrible news, but for guys like me who love blowing money on stupid stuff for the studio, I would have already handed my credit card info over to this China-based company the day the listing went live.

Home Alone Gets an Anime Adaption

Home Alone is one of those classic movies that has become part of must-watch Christmas movies nearly every Christmas season. The unexpected hit movie came out in 1990, with a sequel in 1992. Now some 31 years laters, Home Alone has been gifted the anime treatment.

The Brooklyn based adult animation company, Cartuna, recently released a Home Alone anime short that’s just over 7 minutes long. It stars Kevin, Harry, Marv, and Marley. The animated short has notable nods a few different genres usually seen in action-oriented animes. Plus a twist at the end that may leave you at least chuckling. There are also notable nods to the original live action movie splashed throughout the short.

Cartuna was founded in 2015. The animation studio produces for TV, feature film, music videos, shorts and commercials for partners such as HBO, Jimmy Fallon, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon and many others. The studio’s original animated pieces include Magical Girl Friendship Squad (SYFY TZGZ), Loafy (Comedy Central) and Sundance Indie Episodic premiere Tammy’s Tiny Tea Time.

Home Alone The Anime – Kevin was written by James Belfer, Max Benator and Mike Flavin. produced by James Belfer, Adam Belfer and Benator and co-exec produced by Noah Pardo and Flavin. Bobby Brian Barredo was in charge of the animation direction, supervision lead animation, concept art & design for the short, with help from Edwin David (storyboards, concept art & design), Charles Raymund Mijares (project supervisor, animator & animation checker) and team of fewer than 20 animators/artists.

Masters of the WWE Universe Wave 7 Brings On Late Iconic Wrestlers

I was totally unaware that the Wasters of the WWE Universe toyline was on its seventh wave. The figures vanished from Target, and I’d only occasionally see them at Walmart. However, over at the Big Bad Toy Store, they’re going strong with this newest wave getting ready to drop later this month.
If you’ve missed out so far, the premise is simple. This is a mashup between WWE wrestlers and the Masters of the Universe Origins line. Some parts are the same, and some are unique only to the WWE figures. You’ll spot several classic weapons and armor pieces being shared by both the wrestlers and the inhabitants of Eternia.
Seven waves in, and we finally get us one of the most iconic wrestlers in the sport’s history, Andre, the Giant. Yes, he is also larger than the other figures. However, the face is spot on, and it looks like he has a custom piece of armor that replicates his single shoulder strap top from his WWF days.
This wave is a real throwback which also includes Sgt. Slaughter, Bret ‘The Hitman’ Hart, and the late Junkyard Dog. Each character is roughly 5.5″ tall. All figures in this line come with various weapons, armor pieces, and accessories. This set is currently pre-sold out, but when it comes back up, the pack will cost $69.99.

You’re Gonna Need A Bigger Budget For This $3K Jaws Statue

I know it’s a struggle being a JAWS fan. There’s not a ton of merchandise around for Steven Spielberg’s 1975 mega-hit film. The final scene between Quint, Brody, and the great white shark deserves a playset or a very expensive statue.
What’s that? Iron Studios is making one, and Sideshow Collectibles will be distributing it? Sign me up! Oh, it’s $3,000? Ya’ll accept food stamps? Even at the lowest payment plan option at Sideshow, it would still be about $343 a month. That’s more than my car payment but still lower than my student loans.
Regardless of the price tag, this diorama of the Orca’s final battle with Bruce is impressive on several levels. The whole thing comes in at 31″ (H) x 41″ (W) x 14.6″ (D) and weighs over 50 lbs. The level of detail is downright impressive, even if lil’ Quint and lil’ Brody don’t look much like their screen counterparts.

Replicating the final scene of combat between the brave hunters and cinema’s most famous carnivore, Iron Studios proudly presents its Jaws Attack Demi Art Scale 1:20 Statue, inspired by the classic and iconic film directed by Steven Spielberg.

There’s even a small part of Hooper’s cage off of the vessel’s port side. This makes me want a Hooper VS Bruce diorama. Or better yet, a recreation of the pier scene with the two Amity residents attempting to catch the shark with a roast on a hook. Or even better betterer (?) how about just a statue of Mrs. Kintner slapping Chief Brody? Oh, yeah! I’d buy ten of those!

Has it really been twenty years since Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away came out? My god! How should I celebrate this second decade of beautiful animation and lovely storytelling? By buying merchandise, I don’t need of course!
Now, this Spirited Away bank isn’t new. A different version has been around for some time and can be snatched up pretty cheap on eBay. Sideshow Collectibles has stepped in to officially distribute the toy based on the classic Studio Ghibli film. This revised character model only uses one hand to devour coins while the other hand can hold either a fish or Aogaeru.
The bank stands 8.25″ tall and requires (2) AA batteries. No Face speaks three different Japanese phrases, but we don’t know which. It will run you $70 and ship sometime during the first quarter of 2022.

Place coins on the plate and No-Face speaks and devour the coins. This new version of the No Face Coin Munching Bank features 3 different phrases in Japanese including the Spirited Away theme. The item also includes both Aogaeru and a fish for No Face to hold.  No Face stands approx. 8.25″ tall.  Highly detailed at every angle makes it great for displaying from any side.

I’m not sure why the price is so high, considering the earlier version can be picked up for less than $30. Aside from a new sculpt of the mouth/head, No Face looks pretty much the same. Maybe it’s a licensing thing, or perhaps it’s the rising costs of importing from Japan. Either way, this is a pretty pricy novelty bank.

Today Super7 announced a brand new ReAction vehicle set for the company’s 3.75″ G.I. Joe line. The Arctic Rescue Vehicle set is possibly one of the coolest throwbacks to a great multi-episode story from the cartoon. It is priced at $75, but no release date has been announced.

This G.I. Joe ReAction Arctic Rescue Vehicle Pack includes 3.75” articulated figures of the Blind Woodsman with rifle accessory, and Snake Eyes that glows red in the dark and comes with pistol and canister accessories. Also included are the dog sled and six sled dogs that help recover Snake Eyes from death’s door!

While escaping COBRA in the bitter cold with a canister full of radioactive crystals, the silent ninja Snake Eyes is overcome not only by the weather but the effects of the red crystals. Glowing red in the wilderness and near death, the Joe is found by an unlikely savior: a blind woodsman.
Taken back to the woodsman’s cabin, Snake Eyes recovers enough to continue his mission. However, before he goes back out into the snow, Snake Eyes takes on a new companion, Timber, the wolf.
This specific episode was called The Worms of Death. It was the third part of the overarching The M.A.S.S. Device story. Check out the G.I. Joe episode in full below. Before you even ask, yes, this version of Snake Eyes that comes with this set does glow red!

OK, from the pictures, it looks like the glow effect is more pink or purple. Either way, I’d pick it up just for the Blind Woodsman. Even with years of G.I. Joe toys being on the shelf, this heroic forest dweller never got an action figure.

Dark Horse Being Acquired By Embracer Group, Formerly THQ Nordic

It’s official. Dark Horse Media, LLC is being purchased by Swedish former THQ Nordic AB, Embracer Group. The agreement is not 100% yet, and the purchase price of the LLC was not disclosed. However, we know that if successful, Embracer Group will now hold Dark Horse Comics and Dark Horse Entertainment and the retail store Things From Another World.
If we go by what Dark Horse’s founder/CEO Mike Richardson has to say, this acquisition may lead to a whole new life for the legendary comic book business:

“I can’t express the excitement I feel as Dark Horse moves into this new chapter in our history. The synergies that exist with the Embracer network of companies  promises exciting new opportunities not only for Dark Horse, but also for the creators and companies we work with. I’ve had a number of compelling conversations with Embracer CEO Lars Wingefors and I’m very impressed with him and what he and his team have built. I have to say, the future for our company has never looked brighter.“

Richardson and COO Neil Hankerson will turn over their 20% shares to EG, but the company states both men will remain on board once the transition is completed in early 2022. This means Embracer Group will have complete control over Dark Horse. How this will affect existing Dark Horse comic books or upcoming Star Wars projects is not clear.
Though not quite a well-known name in video games, Embracer Group has several franchises in its catalog. The company’s About Page boasts that 250+ franchises are under its belt. What games does the company own? Here are a few:

  • Saints Row
  • Goat Simulator
  • Dead Island
  • Darksiders
  • Metro
  • TimeSplitters
  • Borderlands

That makes me feel a little better. At least Dark Horse wasn’t purchased by some business that pumps out endless Candy Crush clones. Now we have to wait and see what happens this coming year.
