Microsoft’s FTC Lawsuit Leaks Details For A 2028 XBOX Console

0

Oh, the FTC went and ruined all of the surprises Microsoft had in store for gamers. Not only that, but the Federal Trade Commission just gave the XBOX’s competition a look at the company’s plans through to 2028!

The Verge and IGN have been digging through the recently released court documents, including several Microsoft slides. These various in-house infographics showed off what other XBOX peripherals are on the way and when we can expect the upcoming next-gen console!

The next XBOX, SILICON, will be a hybrid system that may rely heavily on cloud computing. It could be possible that the cloud-based aspects are more for future expansion. What makes me think that is the term in the slide below called “forward compatibility.”

Based on the slide titled The Journey Has Already Started, SILICON has been in the research phase since 2022. The expected launch would occur very close to the end of 2028, probably in the usual October/November window.

How much of this plan is still in place could be anyone’s guess now. Considering a vast amount of Microsoft’s secrets were just revealed could cause the company to revamp all of these ideas since the competition knows too much.

However, I hope a portable XBOX device is on the way because the slide mentions a sub-$99 handheld device. This could be a competitor to the PlayStation Portal, a local Wi-Fi streaming device announced earlier this year for $199.

In less exciting news, the XBOX may receive a new type of controller that is Bluetooth 5.2-enabled, contains modular thumbsticks, and an accelerometer. The SEBILE (code name) will also have life-to-wake tech built-in, so you won’t have to press the X symbol to turn on the controller.

Look at the following slide for those wondering about the next version of the current-gen XBOX Series X. The BROOKLIN revamps the big black brick into a big black cylinder! The reworked console will have more storage, upgraded Wi-Fi 6E, and a reduced power draw. The downside? No more optical drive.

Microsoft planned on announcing the BROOKLIN and a more affordable $299 console called the ELLEWOOD late in 2024. The two would launch within six months of each other during the third and fourth quarters of 2025.

TMNT Co-Creator Kevin Eastman Throws Shade At Marvel And DC Comics

It is no secret that Marvel and DC Comics have had some disappointment in terms of comic book sales and at the box office for their theatrical films. The speculation over the reason is a recurring discussion in the mainstream media and on social media, but to Kevin Easton, co-creator of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, it is the end of the “dominance” for the big two comic book companies.

“To a certain extent, yes,” Eastman answered when asked by NME if Marvel and DC are floundering in dominance. “They’ve done it so well for so long. I remember when Captain America: The First Avenger came out [in 2011]… It was perfectly done with Chris Evans as the Captain and it was done in a very sincere and serious [way], recognizing the importance of the [comics] fanbase… right up through to Avengers: Endgame [in 2019] and some of the TV series. They’ve hit the big marks and made all of us original fans happy.”

“So I think it’s now off to other territories to come up with interesting stories… there’s lots of room for other kinds of comic book movies, you know… I’m curious to see where it all goes, for sure,” he said.

Eastman co-created the Turtles in a Half-shell with Peter Laird in 1984. Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo, and Donatello would make their first appearance in the black and white first issue that they independently published before the pair launched Mirage Studios. Later the TMNT would transition to Image Comics, then to Archie Comics, followed by Dreamwave Comics, and is currently being published by IDW Publishing.

There have been several films based on the TMNT as well as several animated television shows. The only live-action series was ‘Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation’ in 1997. The show was panned by critics and fans leading to its cancellation after only one season.

Valve’s Steam Deck is Now On Sale, Up To 20% Off!

0

Get yer Decks here! Premium Steam Decks at slightly more affordable prices!

Valve’s Steam Deck has seen a sudden rise in competition recently. Asus’s ROG Ally and Lenovo’s Legion Go offer better specs at somewhat competitive prices. So, it’s no surprise that the Steam Deck is finding ways to undercut the other companies by providing used handhelds via GameStop and decent discounts.

The Steam Deck sale is going on now through September 21st. Depending on which of the three models you choose, you could save up to 20%:

  • 64GB eMMC – 10% off ($359.10)
  • 256GB NVMe SSD – 15% off ($449.65)
  • 512GB NVMe SSD – 20% off ($519.20)

If you’re willing to take a gamble on the “certified” refurbished models, here’s how much more you would save:

  • 64GB eMMC – ($319.00)
  • 256GB NVMe SSD – ($419.00)
  • 512GB NVMe SSD – ($519.00)

However, as of writing this article, the refurbished Steam Decks are all sold out.

Valve’s handheld gaming PC hit the market in February 2022. It has garnered several favorable reviews but does ask the user to make a healthy amount of concessions for the convenience factor.

Examples of the caveats include compatibility. Not everything in your Steam library will work with the device. We’re not talking about just running the game, either. The controls sometimes won’t map correctly to some games.

If I play a PC game, I’d prefer to have a mouse and keyboard. Turbo Overkill and Blood: Fresh Supply aren’t as enjoyable otherwise.

If the discounts tempt you, check out the Steam Deck’s specs below:

Processor
  • AMD APU
    CPU: Zen 2 4c/8t, 2.4-3.5GHz (up to 448 GFlops FP32)
    GPU: 8 RDNA 2 CUs, 1.0-1.6GHz (up to 1.6 TFlops FP32)
    APU power: 4-15W
RAM
  • 16 GB LPDDR5 on-board RAM (5500 MT/s quad 32-bit channels)
Storage
  • 64 GB eMMC (PCIe Gen 2 x1)
256 GB NVMe SSD (PCIe Gen 3 x4 or PCIe Gen 3 x2*)
    512 GB high-speed NVMe SSD (PCIe Gen 3 x4 or PCIe Gen 3 x2*)

The portable’s display is 7″ diagonal, runs at 60Hz, and has a resolution of 1280 X 800 (16:10 aspect ratio). The screen is touch-enabled.

Check out Engadget’s comparison video below if you’re wondering which current handheld gaming device is worth your money:

EXO-6 Presents: Paramount Plus’s Admiral Jean-Luc Picard

Hey! Remember when Jean-Luc Picard emerged from retirement and became a side character in his own series? Wasn’t that great?! I was so excited to spend money on collectibles based on Paramount Plus and the studio’s oh-so-excellent treatment of the Star Trek franchise!

If Paramount Plus’s Picard series let you down, I’m sorry to tell you that the better versions of Lean-Luc have long been sold out. Don’t worry; EXO-6 has yet to make a Star Trek: TNG Captain Picard, so there’s still a chance.

However, if you really need your Jean-Luc fix, then pre-order this one for $215. The weary Admiral is expected to ship out during the 4th quarter of this year. Pre-orders end on September 30th.

This 1:6-scale figure re-creates this iconic character in exquisite 1:6 detail. Standing approximately 11 inches tall, every element, from his 24th century jacket to his custom black boots, is authentically reproduced. The original portrait sculpt of Patrick Stewart has an authentic, hand-painted likeness.

Much like the Picard series, Jean-Luc comes with very little of substance:

  • 24th Century Outfit: With research assisted by Costume Designer Michael Crow, this clothing set matches the onscreen costume as seen in Star Trek: Picard Season 3. Including the jacket, pants and trousers – all matched to the original costume. An authentically scaled communicator badge is permanently affixed to the jacket.
  • Boots: Plastic boots sculpted to match the cut and style of the original footwear.
  • Display Base: A hexagonal display base featuring the transporter pad will provide additional support for the figure. Two different inserts for the floor of the base can represent the transporter pad or the center of the transporter array.

In short, he comes with extra hands, a phaser, and a bottle of wine. Woo.

A fourth movie set in the world of My Hero Academia is currently in development.

Review: MythForce – Saturday Morning Roguelite

Anyone who grew up watching cartoons in the 80s and 90s will remember the high energy and general excitement they had in them. Now imagine being able to play a game inspired by that same feeling you had from those shows back then. This is why MythForce on PlayStation 5 (also avaliable on Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC) sounds like a game that would be right up anyone’s alley who loves that stuff. A first-person role-playing roguelite that lets you team up with a few friends and battle evil together, how could it be any better? Unfortunately, it never truly lives up to that level of hype.

MythForce will have you taking control of a character and battling through locations that are filled with monsters and hazardous traps. Either alone or with up to three friends, you traverse a changing dungeon that constantly mixes up the obstacles you face. In concept, it sounds interesting, especially when you’re equipped with an assortment of weapons, magical attacks, and abilities to bring down the monsters that block your way.

There are four different character classes to use, each with its own assortment of abilities that can be expanded upon as you play. If you have even the slightest knowledge of role-playing games like Dungeons & Dragons, you’ll recognize many familiar aspects of this. There is a good level of growth and customization to your character as you get deeper and deeper into the dungeon, where you can pick up new items and equipment to further boost your stats and abilities. When you pair up with others online, you can put together a pretty solid team of adventurers.

But the charm of MythForce only lasts so long, because the game’s technical mishaps and boring gameplay loop start to reveal their ugly heads. Many of the locations you enter will become dull and monotonous after a short while, even with the locations of enemies and points of interest being switched around.

Groups of monsters you encounter will often be duplicates of one another, with little to no differences between them. Most enemies you find will either appear out of thin air or emerge from rooms on the corners of the area with dark holes that spawn baddies. It’s hard to miss this when you can predict where most groups of monsters will appear before you, allowing you to get the jump on them if you’re with a group.

Although combat isn’t difficult most of the time, you will encounter some technical hurdles that will make it tougher to deal with. Hazards you find may not always affect enemies in the same way as they do you, with some hazards having an inconsistent damage output. Enemies will often clip through some objects as they relentlessly pursue you and even find themselves being stuck in one place in some cases. If you find yourself alone, you’ll have a much more difficult time facing stronger enemies that appear, which often feel like a complete mismatch. Even if you have a few boosts to your own stats, you’ll struggle with how tough they can be in battle. With a friend or two, it makes things more manageable, but not always easier.

Outside of battles in the dungeon, there isn’t much to do other than improve your weapons and abilities with gold. Unfortunately, you can’t upgrade much early on because the game requires you to play a lot to gather enough resources. You might find yourself going through a few runs and a number of areas before you’ll be able to purchase a decent upgrade from the shop to take with you. You can purchase other things like moves and sounds with the gold you gather, but you’ll want to save as much as you can for the more important upgrades.

MythForce is a good concept that will work for some people, but the execution of it isn’t as good as you would’ve hoped for. It can take a while to find others to play with online while going in alone will diminish in fun after a short time. Maybe after some updates and tweaks to various aspects of the experience, the game can have a better pull for those who enjoy cooperative games. But for now, MythForce just isn’t as exciting as it probably should be.

What do you think of MythForce? What is your favorite roguelite game that you’ve played? And what were some of your favorite cartoons to watch growing up? Let us know everything in the comment section below!

Review: Valaverse’s Action Force Overload!

Not too long ago, we reviewed both the G.I. Joe Classified and Action Force versions of Sgt. Slaughter. Spoilers, the Valaverse one was better. It was clear that Bobby Vala’s company was trying to give customers the most bang for their buck both in figure quality and the abundant accessories.

I had contemplated buying more Action Force figures due to collecting 99% of the Joes and Cobras I wanted, and Hasbro’s lack of quality control had turned me off of the toy line.

Thankfully, Bobby Vala dropped off a huge box of Action Force swag at my door this week. Here’s what we’re going to look at:

The accessories packs are where we’ll start. Delta’s arsenal delivers a wide variety of guns and effects pieces. The dual gold 1911s are a nice touch. As expected, the paint, although minimal, is far better than what we’ve seen with most of the G.I. Joe Classified line. More than one color of paint is applied, which already puts it above the competition.

Security Enforcement Gear Pack and Steel Brigade Gear Pack offer more than firepower; they can turn an Action Force figure into a new character. The modular helmet found in the Security Enforcement deployment allows for loads of variation, including night vision goggles and headphones. A tactical vest, belt, and hip magazine holster are also included. Thanks to this being molded in gray, these parts can be easily primed and repainted to match whatever color scheme you want.

The Steel Brigade Gear Pack achieves the same thing as far as creating a new character, but with slightly fewer options. Rather than a helmet, this pack contains a whole new helmeted head. The vest is also more heavily armored, which could limit articulation. However, this is your ticket to creating that figure if you wanted a heavy gunner or explosives expert.

Eclipse is one of the four females who were part of Action Force’s third wave. Like all the other figures from Valaverse, the ranger is packed with several accessories, including multiple portraits, hands, and firearms. The face sculpt is lovely, but her desert camo portrait makes the figure pop when posed next to the rest of my 6″ army figures. The only thing I’d change would be putting her magazine holsters around the back of her vest, if not remove them.

In proper 1980s form, Valaverse offers a mail-away figure, kind of. Covert Ops Condor can be picked up if you send in 20 action points, which are found on the packaging of most figures and accessories. The points must be mailed in, and you’ll get the Alcopoco shirt-wearing Condor for only $14.99. If you missed out on the Chuckles figure from Hasbro, this guy makes a good stand-in.

The final two figures are part of the SWARM unit. The Sentry and the Power-Con exclusive SWARM Horde contain most of the same parts, with the exception of the helmets and larger accessories. Both make for excellent army builder troops, but the Horde figure is the real winner with the winged flight pack and honeycomb shield. He’s so cool-looking that I invested in some figure stands so he could fly above the rest of the army.

The final item on our list is the Crimson Shadow Arsenal Tin. This 11″x6″ case is loaded with 98 weapons, 48 magazines, and 30 muzzle flash effects. If you need a sidearm, rifle, SMG, knife, dagger, or shotgun, it’s in here. I was absolutely blown away with just how much was in here. There were even axes and gold-colored firearms! I literally could not ask for more options to display my figures. I even thought about decking out my NECA Phantom figure with dual grenade launchers.

When it comes to trying to please the military figure market, Valaverse really goes above and beyond in a way that the big names refuse to. For more about the Valaverse and Action Force, check out our interview with Bobby Vala below!

Amazon Studios: ‘Mr. And Mrs. Smith’ Remake Will Have A 2024 Debut

The 2005 action comedy ‘Mr. And Mrs. Smith’ is getting a “reimagining” from Amazon Studios that will include new actors and a new story arc. Amazon has been promoting the series on social media and has announced that it is set to debut for subscribers to Prime Video in 2024.

“Amazon Studios announced the new series Mr. & Mrs. Smith is now premiering in early 2024, exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. From co-creators and executive producers Donald Glover (Swarm, Atlanta) and Francesca Sloane (Atlanta, Fargo), the series, a reimagining of the 2005 New Regency film, stars Glover as John Smith and Maya Erskine (PEN15) as Jane Smith,” Amazon said in a statement.

They added, “Mr. & Mrs. Smith will be a part of the savings, convenience, and entertainment that Prime members enjoy in a single membership.”

The series was originally meant to premiere in November 2023 but was pushed back to 2024.

Amazon says about the series, “Two strangers, John and Jane, who have given up their identities to be thrown together as partners—in espionage and in marriage. Matched by a mysterious agency, each episode follows them on a new mission and new milestone in their relationship. When the cracks begin to show through, they must fight to stay together. Because in this marriage, divorce is not an option.”

Ben Affleck and Angelina Jolie, who were married at the time, starred in the 2005 film as a seemingly married couple who are oblivious to the fact that they are both part of rival mercenary groups. While it received a mixed reaction from critics, audiences seemed to enjoy it as it made more than three times its budget at the box office. It was directed by Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity) and written by Simon Kinberg (Sherlock Holmes).

LotR’s Sauron Joins Beast Kingdom’s Dynamic 8ction Heroes

Sauron, the great deceiver and the evilest force to befall Middle Earth has been captured in toy form thanks to Beast Kingdom. The forger of the One Ring joins the Dynamic 8ction Heroes line of premium action figures and looks genuinely menacing.

Unlike most other DAH figures, Sauron stands quite a bit taller, coming in at almost 12″ tall, whereas others in this line are around 8″. To match this size, the false Lord of Gifts has a grander price tag: $109.99.

Sauron includes interchangeable hands, a fabric cape, and his signature mace. Sadly, the Ring is not removable.

Pre-orders are open now for The Lord of the Rings’ titular villain. He is expected to arrive in May 2024.

Standing at an impressive 29 centimeters in height, the character is depicted in his iron-black armor, featuring his iconic spiked helmet, spiky shoulder guards, and a real fabric cloak. The collectible also incorporates an intricate design, which features the totem symbols on the armor and Sauron’s Mace. No details are overlooked for fans who want the highest detailing on their action figures. A pair of replicable hands, as well as Sauron’s deadly mace are also included in the set for fans to recreate the many battles depicted in the books and movies. But wait, eagle-eyed fans, can you see the One Ring on Sauron’s right hand?

The Dark Lord Sauron comes with the following:

  • Over 24 points of articulation
  • The Dark Lord Sauron’s armor and symbols are created with intricate detailing
  • 2 interchangeable hand types (open palm, gripping object)
  • Cape made of real fabric
  • Sauron’s Mace

While this version may be cool, the ultimate Sauron is still the Toy Biz one from years ago. Glowing red eyes, a removable ring, and that overpowered speaker built into his chest.
