0

Sunrise shed some light on their mysterious new project ‘Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury,’ a new television show featuring the giant mechs, revealing the potential protagonist and her mobile suit, Gundam Aerial. Sunrise dropped some key visuals featuring the various mechs as well as a teaser trailer for the upcoming show.
IGN notes that the trailering is “showing the protagonist’s short red hair blowing in the wind, and Gundam Aerial booting up towards the end. The series looks to have a modern art style and inspirational music if the trailer is anything to go by.”
You can watch the teaser below:

Here is the new promotional poster:

As of the writing of this article, Sunrise has not revealed the protagonist’s name with the company being been vague about whether this series will take place in an established Gundam story arc or introduce a new one. This is will be the first television series since the 2015 show ‘Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans.’ It will also feature a special “prologue” episode to set-up the premise and introduce other mobile suits including the Gundam Lfrith and Beguir-Beu.
Comic Natalie reports, “‘Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch of Mercury’ will be broadcast from October on the MBS / TBS 28 stations nationwide on the “Day 5” frame, which is the frame from 17:00 on Sunday. Furthermore, it is clear that the production of “PROLOGUE”, which is the day before the main part of the animation, has been decided and will be released this summer. In addition, the setting images of the two mobile suits Gundam Lubris and Beguilbeu appearing in “PROLOGUE” were also shown.”

Mystery Science Theater 3000 Renewed For 13th Season

The crew of the space moviehouse Gizmoplex is back for a thirteenth season of bashing bad movies from across the Hollywood galaxy. The team raised enough to do another season thanks to a Kickstarter campaign, allowing for new episodes to be released Mat 6th-8th, but without a network. Instead, the creators are opting to stream the new season on the Gizmoplex OTT app.
Shout Factory said in a press release, “As Mystery Science Theater 3000 returns for its 13th season, the Mads – Kinga Forrester (Felicia Day), loyal henchman Max (Patton Oswalt), and grandmother Pearl Forrester (Mary Jo Pehl) – introduce the show’s biggest, maddest experiment yet!”
“For the first time, not one, but three humans will be subjected to the bittersweet agony of watching the world’s cheesiest movies, as returning test subject Jonah Heston (Jonah Ray) shares hosting duties with the newest kidnapped Gizmonic technician, Emily Connor (Emily Marsh) and original host Joel Robinson (show creator Joel Hodgson),” they continue.
“Accompanied by wisecracking robot pals Crow T. Robot (Hampton Yount / Kelsey Ann Brady), Tom Servo (Baron Vaughn / Conor McGiffin) and GPC (Rebecca Hanson / Yvonne Freese), our heroes will have to survive 13 new movies, 12 new shorts, and the unveiling of Kinga’s newest scheme for world domination: THE GIZMOPLEX, the First Cineplex on the Moon,” they add.  “Will they finish the season with their sanity intact?”
The episodes will include riffs on the films ‘Santo in The Treasure of Dracula’ (May 6), ‘Robot Wars’ (May 7), and ‘Beyond Atlantis’ (May 8).
You can watch the trailer here:

“To see the new season, visitors will be able to buy tickets to livestream events ($10 each), rent the new episodes ($8 each), or get a “Season Pass” ($135) that includes tickets to over 25 livestream events and a digital copy of the new season to keep,” Shout Factory explains.
‘Santo in Dracula’s Treasure’ is a 1969 Mexican horror film directed by René Cardona. ‘Robot Wars’ is a 1993 cyberpunk movie directed by Albert Band. ‘Beyond Atlantis’ is a “family friendly” sci-fi horror flick directed by Eddie Romero.

Pennywise Prequel “Welcome to Derry” Coming To HBO Max?

It’ has been three years since the most recent adaptation of Stephen King’s IT was in theatres. We all thought it was over for the Losers and the killer clown that dwelled in Derry’s sewers. We were wrong.
Variety has learned that HBO is putting together a prequel series exploring the history of Derry and IT, aka Pennywise the Dancing Clown. The Word is that part of the prequel will occur in the 1960s, but nothing has been officially announced. So, take all this info with a grain of salt.
In the books, IT crashed on Earth millions of years ago. That crash site would eventually become Derry, Maine, and IT’s influence would cause several disasters and acts of unspeakable violence as humans began to settle the area. There are lots of opportunities to tell some interesting stories.
Allegedly, the director of the two feature films, Andy Muschietti, is set to be the executive producer. Barbara Muschietti and Andy developed the story while Jason Fuchs (Wonder Woman) is serving as the series’ scriptwriter.
IT: Chapters 1 & 2 were interesting visually, but as far as a decent adaptation of Stephen King’s book, it was a total dud. Pennywise’s design tried too hard to be creepy and his way of terrifying his victims was too tame compared to the books. It’s laughable that the cosmic terror was ultimately killed by the kids bullying it.
Let’s hope Mike’s family gets more screen time than he did. That was the most insulting part of the two films. Mike, in the books, is pretty much the central character that brings everything together and the story of his family’s history with Derry’s rottenness and IT was the most interesting. I doubt HBO will do the whole Black Spot thing any justice, but maybe they’ll prove me wrong.

The Retro Robots of Robo Force Finally Receive A Refreshing Reboot

Robots were the thing of the 1980s. Nearly everything that was trying to appeal to our tiny brains in the Decade Of Excess usually had at least one robot involved. Robocop, COPS, Transformers, R2-D2, Omnibot, and so on. Everywhere you turned, we were being peddled droids in some form. But unfortunately, only a few made it out of the ’80s alive.
While I was checking out Figures.com, I caught a glimpse of some familiar robots. Not Transformers, or Go-Bots, or Alphie. No, these were characters from Robo Force! The overall designs may now be different, but those head and chest parts gave it away.
Robo Force launched in the 1980s around the same time as Transformers. Guess who won that battle for parents’ money? Prime and company cleaned up, but some of us ended up with a Maxx Steele or Wrecker in our stockings. The bots had expanding tube arms and suction cup bases, which meant Robo Force battles permanently scarred many bathroom mirrors. Now they’re making a comeback thanks to The Nacelle Company.
Although the article we found points to April 22nd being the kickoff date for pre-orders, Robo Force has yet to appear at the Nacelle Store in any form. No articles, artwork, or updates. Thankfully Figures.com had plenty of info.
The rebooted Maxx Steele and Wrecker will stand at 7.5″ tall. Each will retain aspects of the original toys while also implementing current figure trends like premium paint application and lots of articulation. The pre-order price is $49.99, but it is unclear if that’s for both or the cost per figure.
The Nacelle Company may not sound familiar, but the organization has produced the fantastic 1980s documentary The Toys That Made Us, currently on Netflix. I can’t think of anyone better to try to relaunch a line like this.
Brian Volk-Weiss, Nacelle’s CEO, had the following to say regarding the reenvisioning of Robo Force:

“Of all the IP’s we’ve been buying, we wanted to launch our toy division with Robo Force because not only are they fun and iconic, but due to them being crushed at Toy Fair in 1984 by another line of charismatic transforming robots, we wanted to give them their due with a reimagined storyline and high-end redesigns. But don’t despair lovers of the 80’s version, our new figures will of course have the infamous suction cups, but these will be attached to something the originals never had; legs!”

Grogu, Luke Skywalker, and R2-D2 Join Iron Studios’ Art Scale Line

It may say a lot about the state of Star Wars under Disney’s leadership that a brief cameo by a deepfake Luke Skywalker was more genuine to the character than Mark Hamil’s performance in The Last Jedi. Luke’s battle at the end of The Mandalorian Season 2 was jingling all the right keys.
To celebrate this brief but oh-so-welcome bit of nostalgia bait, Iron Studios has created two new statues. One Jedi Knight, Luke Skywalker holding Grogu (Baby Yoda / Lil’ Smackums), and the other is … R2D2. OK, Artoo rarely ever changes in appearance. So, if you already have a 1/10th scale droid, you can stand it alongside Luke, and no one would know the difference.
The Luke/Grogu statue is $159.99, while Artoo is $99.99. The bases upon which the characters stand can be pushed together to form a single unit. R2-D2 stands at 5.1″ tall, while Luke towers over the droid at 8.2″ in height. Iron Studios has yet to announce a release date, but pre-orders are now open for both.

Bringing on his right arm a Force-sensitive child called Grogu, a native of the same species as his old master Yoda, and just like him, has a strong connection to the power of the Force, the Jedi Master, wearing a cloak and black costume, contemplates with tranquility and wisdom, after answering to the small being call, that now must follow the apprentice path with his new guardian and master. One of the most exciting scenes of the last episode of the 2nd Season of “The Mandalorian” series in the Disney+ streaming service, is masterfully presented in the statue “Luke Skywalker and Grogu – The Mandalorian – Art Scale 1/10” by Iron Studios.

He traveled many planets, navigated in space by countless spaceships, met different cultures and civilizations, interacted with several generations, played a critical and vital role while aiding his allies, witnessed the birth and fall of worlds in a galactic saga, and prevailed always present even with his small size and limited strength, becoming one of the most prominent characters of his universe. Carefully replicated to the smallest details of his structure, Iron Studios proudly bring the statue “R2-D2 – The Mandalorian – Art Scale 1/10” with the iconic Astromech robot droid, Luke Skywalker’s friend.

Is it me, or does Luke look a little off? Maybe it’s just the lighting, but he looks like Ron Pearlman. What do you think?

‘Panda! Go, Panda!’ Kids Anime Film Gets 50th Anniversary Release

0

‘Panda! Go, Panda!’ is an early movie by director Isao Takahata and writer Hayao Miyazaki, both of whom would go on to found Studio Ghibli, though this animated kids film would be released by Tokyo Movie Shinsha and A Production. Premiering on December 17, 1972, it would charm the hearts of audiences alike, especially when it was released on DVD in North America in 2000.
GKids announced that they would be re-releasing the film in the United States in both its original Japanese with English subtitles and with its dubbed version in celebration of the feature’s 50th anniversary. The release will have a short theatrical run before heading to streaming and home video sometime in 2022.
GKIDS’ President David Jesteadt shared his excitement in a statement, saying, “Besides acting as a vital landmark in animation history, Panda! Go Panda! is an exuberant, feel-good story that will have you humming the theme song for days.” He added, “The film has never looked better, and we are thrilled to be able to share it with audiences more widely for a huge anniversary milestone.”
English voice casting includes Julie Maddalena, Kevin Seymour, Melissa Fahn, Kirk Thornton, Simon Prescott, Sherry Lynn, Doug Lee, Mona Marshall, Brianne Siddall, Barbara Goodson, Doug Stone, and Melanie MacQueen.
You can watch the trailer below:

Wikipedia describes the plot synopsis as follows,
“The plot follows Mimiko, a bright little girl left alone when her grandmother leaves on a trip to her grandfather’s memorial service in Nagasaki. Making a few stops at some local stores, Mimiko comes home to her house in a bamboo grove and finds a baby panda named Panny (Pan-Chan) sleeping on the back doorstep. She quickly makes friends with the little panda, and invites him in for a drink. His father, PapaPanda, soon comes to visit, and they decide to become a family after PapaPanda offers to be Mimiko’s father (Mimiko never had any parents). The three adjust to life together during their first night together, while Mimiko writes the first of many letters to her grandma.”
Kevin Seymour served as the English voice director for the dubbing production company Animaze. The movie was originally released in North America by Pioneer Entertainment in 2000.

Ryouma and his teammates must learn to cooperate if they want to become the champions they aspire to be.”

Superman Returns In Black To Dynamic 8ction Heroes

Superman has returned to Beast Kingdom’s Dynamic 8ction Heroes line of 1/9th scale action figures. We spotted this version of Kal-El up for pre-order at the Big Bad Toy Store.
Clark’s wearing the black suit from his time on an alternate Earth after the Convergence event. It could be mistaken for his recovery suit from the Reign of the Supermen arc in the ’90s, but this Supes doesn’t have the rockin’ mullet.
This Superman figure is limited to 1,500 pieces and is priced at $89.99. The expected release window is during the second quarter of this year.

Serve Up Some Quality BBQ With This New Leatherface Figure

The Sawyer family is misunderstood. They’re just people who love good BBQ. Sure, they make the food out of humans, but at least no animals are being harmed. I’m surprised that Peta hasn’t used the Texas cannibals for their advertisements.
If you’re a fan of some good roadside BBQ served up by a suspicious cook, you’ll love the butcher: Bubba Sawyer, AKA Leatherface! Sideshow is currently taking pre-orders for a new 1/6th scale Leatherface.
Based on his first appearance in the classic 1974 film The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Leatherface is decked out with his iconic yellow apron and mask. He’s ready to cut up some folks with his trusty chainsaw after he gives them a whack with his mallet, of course.

Bubba comes with the following parts and accessories:

  • Fabric Costume including:
    • Shirt
    • Tie
    • Pants
    • Bloodied yellow apron
    • Padded Undersuit
  • Four (4) pairs of hands:
    • Fists
    • Neutral Hands
    • Grip Hands
    • Gesture Hands
  • One (1) pair of boots
  • Chainsaw
  • Mallet
  • Charm Bracelet

Gunnar Hansen was the actor behind the original Leatherface. He was a staple on the horror convention circuit for years before he passed in 2015. Sadly, Gunnar never returned to the role in the first three sequels or the subsequential reboots.

No other follow-up or reimagining has ever topped Tobe Hooper’s original film. It is the pinnacle of grindhouse. Gritty, raw, and unforgiving when it comes to brutality. Something studios never can reproduce.

G.I. Joe Ultimates Wave 3 Enlists Storm Shadow and Scarlett!

This third G.I. Joe wave of Super7’s premium action figure line known as ‘Ultimates!’ includes two fan favorites (Storm Shadow and Scarlett), a Cobra Trooper for army builder, and the sadly neglected Doc. I cannot tell you the last time I’ve seen Doc in the toy line. Hell, he’s probably more well known for his appearance in the Fensler Films than the toy line or cartoon!
The Ultimates G.I. Joe figures are based more on the cartoon versions of the characters than the toys or comics from the 1980s. This means simpler costumes, more vibrant colors, and lots of accessories. Each figure comes with a plethora of weaponry and gadgets and lots of articulation, and interchangeable heads and hands.
Luckily, the figures are still priced at $55 each. The guys and gal can be purchased individually or as a four-pack for $220. These Joes and Cobras will be hitting the market in Spring 2023.
