Period Romance Manga ‘My Happy Marriage’ Is Getting An Anime

0

The historical romance manga ‘My Happy Marriage’ is written by Akumi Agitogi with illustrations by Rito Kohsaka is published by Gangan Online. It is set in a fictionalized period of Japanese history and follows a “Cinderella-like protagonist” who is sold at a bride auction and purchased by a military captain. The series has been picked up by the Japanese animation studio Kinema Citrus for an anime adaptation.
Crunchyroll said on their website, “Writer Akumi Agitogi and illustrator Rito Kohsaka’s My Happy Marriage manga is about to make its way to the small screen. A TV anime adaptation was announced via the official accounts this morning, with Kinema Citrus (Made in Abyss, The Rising of the Shield Hero) handling animation production for the upcoming series.”
You can watch the teaser below:

MyAnimeList explains the synopsis as follows,
“Miyo Saimori was the unfortunate child of a loveless, arranged marriage. After her mother died, her father brought in his lover and her own daughter, Kaya. From then on, Miyo’s life was reduced to that of a mere servant. Even worse, while Kaya inherited the family’s psychic abilities, Miyo had none—she was truly the daughter with no merit.
After years of being treated like dirt, Miyo has learned to keep her head down, hide her pain, and obey every order. So, it comes as no surprise that she is arranged to be married to Kiyoka Kudou, a military captain rumored to be so cruel that he has driven away every one of his potential wives so far.
From a painful upbringing to a painful marriage, that’s the future that awaits Miyo—or so she thinks. Contrary to her expectations, her new husband is actually kind-hearted. What really awaits Miyo is a blissful, everlasting marriage full of happiness!”
‘My Happy Marriage’ will star Reina Ueda (Ruri in Dr. STONE) will voice Miyo Saimori and Kaito Ishikawa (Tobio Kageyama in Haikyu!!) will voice Kiyoka Kudo.

Tom Hiddleston’s Loki Is Back As A Highly Detailed 1/4 Scale Statue

Queen Studios is back with another MCU Loki statue. Last time, it was a $3k+ lifesize bust. Now the Chinese company is producing a 1/4 scale statue. So yup, you can get yourself a 52cm tall Tom Hiddleston to do with as you please.
This time around, the Studio decided to go with Loki’s look from the first Avengers film, Infinity Stone staff. The only thing he is missing is his iconic horned crown. Instead, Loki is decked out in an outfit made from fabric and genuine leather. Like many of the company’s other statues, Loki will have rooted hair (made from sheep’s wool).
The body and face are made out of polystone. Judging by the photos, I would have said that the eyes were glass, but that’s just a testament to how well they’re painted.
All these bells and whistles do come at a cost. You’ll have to put down $1,090 to own this Loki. To be more specific, you’ll need all that cash and must live in either Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, or South Korea. Sadly, this demi-god isn’t coming stateside.
The estimated release date is the third quarter of 2023.

This Queen Studios’ Loki 1/4 scale statue stands at 52cm tall and captures Loki from Marvel Studios’ Avengers (2012) with incredible movie accuracy. Crafted from polystone, the head sculpt has been painstakingly sculpted to capture Tom Hiddleston as Loki. The Queen Studios team has also used state-of-the-art technology to root his hair made of a fine sheep’s wool creating an authenticity, unlike any other 1/4 statue.

The Infinity Stone does not light up, but that’s a small gripe. It sucks that this one isn’t coming to the US because I’d really like to see all that detail in person.

Mezco’s 5 Points ‘The Crow’ Set Delivers Two Iconic Eric Draven Looks

Mezco has announced a new 5 Points action figure, this once based on the Brandon Lee version of The Crow from 1994. This deluxe figure set allows you to capture two of the actor’s iconic looks. Whether your favorite Crow is draped in a trench coat or strutting about in long-sleeved rock gear, Mezco allows you to mix and match.
The Crow figure set is priced at $36 and includes several interchangeable parts. Let’s be honest, though. We’re all going to display the open-arms version of Eric Draven with the stringy hair. Pre-orders are up now, but this deluxe set won’t ship until sometime between December 2022 and February 2023.

  • Version 1 – The Crow wears his signature overcoat and comes with a set of interchangeable arms, allowing him to recreate his iconic pose from the film and an additional right pointing arm. An interchangeable smirking head portrait is included and fits on both versions of The Crow
  • Version 2 – The Crow wears a distressed black shirt and comes with an interchangeable legs, allowing him to recreate the walking pose as seen on the film’s poster. An interchangeable vengeful stare head portrait is included and fits on both versions of The Crow.

With the recent announcement that IT’s Bill Skarsgård will be the latest actor to (possibly) be taking on the moniker of The Crow, don’t be surprised if we see merchandise based on the original ’94 film to ramp up. Over the past few months, we’ve seen a few statues and a One:12 Collective figure, but the flood gates are opened whenever a reboot is incoming. So we’ll be swimming in mid-90s nostalgia soon.
Oh, no… Does this mean that the goth look is going to make a comeback?

NECA’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Get A Cartoony Turtle Van!

So, you’ve got all your NECA TMNT cartoon figures. They’re sitting on a shelf somewhere, gathering dust. If only was a better way to display them that would not only protect them but add a level of class to your studio apartment. Oh, what’s that? Put them in the Turtle Van? Yes, please!
Measuring 14″ long, 12″ high, and 8″ wide, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ primary mode of surface-level transport looks like it jumped straight out of the cartoon and made off with my wallet. The Turtle Van both in size and aesthetics, matches the on-screen counterpart, complete with a more boxy look and simplified details. If only it had a spring-loaded launching pad for your Ninja Turtle figures. At least this thing comes with LED lights!
The Turtle Van is currently available for pre-order at The Neca Store. The asking price? Only $250. That’s almost half the cost of the Super7 Ultimates Party Wagon but still more expensive than the recent re-release of the ’80s toy version.

Funimation’s YouTube Channel Rebrands As Crunchyroll Dubs

Funimation’s YouTube channel has received a total overhaul as it becomes absorbed into the Crunchyroll branding by becoming Crunchyroll Dubs. The channel will now house trailers, clips, and other content specifically geared to anime dubs while other content will go to the Crunchyroll YouTube channel.
“Funimation is unifying under the Crunchyroll brand, and as such, so is their YouTube channel. Funimation’s YouTube channel, which consists of 3.7 million subscribers and has been in operation since 2006, is now becoming Crunchyroll Dubs,” they said on their website. “What can you expect now? Well… Mostly all of the same content you’ve loved, and more of it! Crunchyroll Dubs will continue providing anime clips, trailers and full episodes of your favorite English-dubbed anime. Not only that, Crunchyroll Dubs will be releasing WEEKLY dubbed episode 1 drops every Saturday at 12PM PST, starting on April 9 with Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-! Be sure to subscribe and watch free dubbed episodes of anime every week.”
“What about Japanese-language content? For all of your English-subtitled anime needs, check out Crunchyroll Collection (4 million subscribers) for English-subtitled clips, trailers, and full episodes.” They continue, “Under Crunchyroll Dubs, we are excited to continue to bring you dubbed anime content through YouTube. Thank you for taking anime to the next level with us!”
Following the overhaul, there is not a hint of Funimation branding on the YouTube channel, outside of previously uploaded video content. Following the merger between Funimation, VRV, Wakanim, and Crunchyroll into a single app, it appears their parent company is doubling down on this branding when it comes to anime streaming.
“As Crunchyroll and Funimation enter this new era together, we couldn’t be more excited to bring together a vibrant community of anime fans, creators, and artists. Thank you for taking anime to the next level with us,” they said when the merger was announced.

Prime Video Trailer For True Crime Docuseries ‘The Unsolved Murder of Beverly Lynn Smith’ Demands Answers

0

Amazon Studios and Muse Entertainment are partnering to bring the Canadian true crime documentary series ‘The Unsolved Murder of Beverly Lynn Smith’ to the Prime Video streaming service. After an initial release at the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival, the docuseries will premier on the streaming app on May 6.
“Prime Video today announced the new Canadian Amazon Original series The Unsolved Murder of Beverly Lynn Smith, a true-crime docuseries that follows the cold case and controversial investigation into the murder of Beverly Lynn Smith in her home in Oshawa, Ontario. Woven together from firsthand accounts, expert interviews, family archives, and rare access to key participants, The Unsolved Murder of Beverly Lynn Smith is an unpredictable tale that explores the unrelenting enigma of ethics and accountability in this provocative criminal case,” Amazon said in a press statement.
Muse and Amazon released a trailer for the series which questions how the murder became a cold case with the police later making an arrest using a controversial sting operation. Despite the victim’s sister insisting the man arrested was responsible, he insists he is innocent.
“Beverly Lynn Smith lived in a rustic farmhouse in the industrial community of Oshawa, Ontario with her husband and 10-month-old baby. On December 9, 1974, she was murdered in the kitchen of her home. Alan Smith (no relation to Beverly Lynn Smith), has been a central character in the investigation since the night of the murder almost 50 years ago. By 2007, the case had gone cold, until the results of a polygraph test raised suspicions, and Smith became a key person of interest—and the target of a controversial police investigation. Through all the twists and turns, Smith has always maintained his innocence,” Amazon explained.
You can watch the trailer below:

Amazon added, “From Nathalie Bibeau, the director of The Walrus and the Whistleblower, the Amazon Original docuseries dives deep into the elaborate and controversial sting operation that was designed to investigate a suspect in the murder of 22-year-old Beverly Lynn Smith—but only ended up raising more questions—and a search for justice that spans decades.”
Courtney Dobbins, Jonas Prupas, and Catherine Legge serve as executive producers.

’90s Gaming Icon Gex Had A Spinoff No One Knew About Until Now!

In 2001 Gex had just been the star of three video games with various ports appearing on multiple consoles. Little did we know that a spinoff was in the works, but it was never announced and remained so for over 21 years.
We learned today via Tech Radar that the spinoff, called Gex Jr., has just been successfully emulated and was released to the public. This isn’t some long-lost game but a prototype that includes one short level.
While it’s not a complete game, Gex Jr. is a piece of forgotten game history.
The rundown from Hidden Palace states that this level is pretty short, but it does repeat after being cleared. There’s no hud, but there are collectibles in the shape of soda cans. Gex Jr. does have voice lines recorded, “These voice lines reference Teletubbies, Blue’s Clues, Star Wars, and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.”
Gex Jr. looks to play pretty similarly to the other two 3D Gex titles. The juvenile gecko runs, jumps, and quips, albeit with a higher-pitched voice than his daddy. When we say this level is short, we mean it is very short. The prototype is made up of one room no enemies, and it is completed once all the cans of soda are scooped up. Check out the footage below:

Sadly, Gex Sr. didn’t cement himself into long-running gaming stardom like Lara Croft. He had a few games, then *poof*. He fizzled out before Y2K happened. However, his second game, Gex: Enter the Gecko, is one of my all-time favorite PSX titles. I wish Crystal Dynamics would go back to making stuff like this. I doubt Square Enix would allow it, though.
What do you think of this unearthed prototype? Would it have interested you if the game was released in the early 2000s? Let us know your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below.

Grab Yer Grog! A New Monkey Island Game Be On The Way!

Guybrush and company are making a comeback! The classic LucasArts series Monkey Island is getting a new installment, thankfully, with the involvement of the man who started it all. Although LucasArts may be long gone, the franchise is still in good hands.
Devlover Digital, in conjunction with Lucasfilm Games and Ron Gilbert’s Terrible Toybox, will be bringing us Return to Monkey Island this year! The news came from the series creator himself, Ron Gilbert, on Twitter.

In case the Tweet does not load, here’s the text and video:
“A little something we’ve been working on for the past 2 years in complete secrecy.”

Announcing Return to Monkey Island, the long-awaited follow-up to the legendary Secret of Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge by Ron Gilbert’s Terrible Toybox in collaboration with Devolver Digital and Lucasfilm Games, coming 2022.

The game’s official website doesn’t have a whole log going on right now, aside from showing off the new game’s art style and a view of the island at night. In the trailer, we can see someone who may be Guybrush Threepwood abord the ship moving back and forth. The trailer also announces that Dominic Armato will be reprising his role as the voice of the unlikely hero of the series.
The description in the YouTube trailer states this is a follow-up to the first two Monkey Island games. So, where does this put The Curse of Monkey Island, Escape from Monkey Island, and Tales of Monkey Island? Maybe I’m reading too much into the short amount of text?
For the most part, Monkey Island was a series of point-and-click adventure games from LucasArts. The original installment came out in 1990 and saw an eventual re-release with a voice cast, similar to what happened with the Leisure Suit Larry games but with less boobage.
What do you think of the revival of the Monkey Island franchise? Let us know your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below.

Arcade1Up Introduces The Pac-Man 10-In-1 Couchcade

Do you want to play Pac-Man with genuine(ish) controls but don’t want to stand in front of an arcade cabinet? Do you want to sit on your couch and play classic NAMCO games via a wireless controller with a beanbag bottom? Then Arcade1Up has just the very niche thing for you!
The idea is pretty simple. Arcade1Up has taken their existing Micro Game Console and added a comfy controller that sits across your lap. The controller is themed after the classic Pac-Man cabinet’s controls and wood paneling. Under the wireless controller is a bean bag cushion featuring the iconic Pac-Man maze.
The price, however, is a bit steep. This thing is $179. That’s more than what I paid for a secondhand Arcade1Up Pac-Man cabinet. At least they include an HDMI cable. Seriously, I’ve seen tech companies cheap out on even that basic item.

Arcade1Up
Arcade1Up
Arcade1Up

Easily connect the Micro Game Console to your TV via HDMI port, the wireless control deck features real-feel arcade controls on top, and a soft bean bag bottom. Yep, retrogaming just literally fell into your lap!

The Couchcade has a range of 30′ and runs off of (4) AAA batteries. On top of the original Pac-Man, the console will also come with the following:

  • PAC-MAN
  • PAC-MANIA
  • NEW RALLY-X
  • GALAXIAN
  • GALAGA
  • GALAGA ‘88
  • DIG DUG
  • DIG DUG II
  • ROLLING THUNDER
  • MAPPY

It’s the essential mix of NAMCO games we see with nearly every Arcade1Up cabinet or console these days. This version does not support online play or leaderboards, though.
The controller and console specs are as follows:

  • Assembled Dimensions: 19.6”L x 11.2”W x 4.5”H
  • Box Dimensions: 21.3” Lx 6.0”W x 13.6”H
  • Weight: 7.0 lbs
  • 2.4Ghz Wireless Control Deck
  • Control Deck powered by 4 “AAA” (Not Included)
  • Adjustable Volume
  • HDMI Micro Game Console
  • HMDI & USB cables included
