‘Saiyuki Reload Gunlock’ Is Getting A Blu-Ray Release

From the Japanese animation studio Pierrot came the comedy adventure sequel anime series ‘Saiyuki Reload Gunlock,’ part of the larger ‘Saiyuki’ franchise. Directed by Tetsuya Endo, the show ran for twenty-six episodes which were dubbed into English by Bang Zoom! Entertainment.

Discotek announced on their social media that they were bringing the show to a blu-ray DVD home video release. It will include both the original Japanese and English voice cast. It is available for pre-order and will be released on September 27th.

“The road trip with Sanzo & the gang continues,” they said on Twitter. “Will they finally get to where they are going, or will battles & their own disagreements side-track them some more?”

The English cast includes:

  • Jimmy Benedict as Son Goku
  • Lex Lang as Genjo Sanzo
  • Steve Cannon as Cho Hakkai
  • Tony Oliver as Sha Gojyo
  • Beau Billingslea as Gato
  • Cindy Robinson as Lirin
  • Francis C. Cole as Dokugakuji
  • Kirk Thornton as Ni Jenyi
  • Mela Lee as Yaone
  • Patrick Seitz as Hazel Grouse
  • Phil Meyers as Zakuro
  • Terrence Stone as Kougaiji
  • Wendee Lee as Gyokumen Koushu

Kristi Reed worked on the project as ADR Director and scriptwriter.

Right Stuf Anime describes the synopsis as follows,

“The group must face some of their most deadly challenges yet! A peaceful temple hides a corrupt secret; will Sanzo fall victim to the deadly truth? After that, a den full of dis_gruntled bears is on the hunt, and Sanzo and the others just happen to be in the crosshairs. To top it off, the group must cross an impassable river, see through deadly illusions and a newly unstoppable Kougaiji is waiting for them. Will they ever make any progress on their journey?”

The anime is based on the manga written by Kazuya Minekura from 1997 to 2002 for a total of nine volumes. It is very loosely based on the Chinese fable ‘Journey to the West’ and was serialized in the Japanese magazine ‘Monthly GFantasy.’ Kodansha USA released the manga volumes in the United States.
