Say “No” To Crack And “Yes” To TMNT Shirts and DOOM Key Cards

0

You know what’s not cool, dudes? Crack. It’s no good. At least, that’s what a quartet of talking ninjutsu-trained turtles told me. Wait … should we be getting life lessons from TMNT?

If you like taking life lessons from cartoon characters or mutant reptiles, then Toy Snobs has the fix you need. Months after debuting their horror-themed unlicensed Teenage Mutant Ninja Toitles toys, the company has created retro-inspired Say “No” To Crack t-shirts featuring Rock ‘N Roll versions of the four bros.

Each shirt is made from 100% cotton and is available in various sizes. Crew and vintage-styled TMNT shirts are also available in black and white. Sizes go up to 3XL.

If the idea of cartoon stars from the late 1980s telling you drugs are bad sounds familiar, that’s because it all happened before. In 1990, as part of President Bush’s anti-drug program, a massive crossover event occurred on television. Muppets, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Bugs Bunny, Alvin and the Chipmunks, Winnie the Pooh, and ALF, too, came together to save a kid from becoming an addict.

It was heavy-handed and unintentionally hilarious. Then Garfield showed up, and the fever dream turned into a nightmare.

Speaking of nightmares, check down below for some DOOM-related merchandise!

Rip and tear into your wallet so you can pick up these limited edition DOOM key cards! They’re $70!

DOOM’s key cards are limited to only 2,020 pieces worldwide. Each card is made from zinc alloy, and they do … nothing. Nada. Don’t buy these expecting a special DLC code or anything like that for DOOM or DOOM Eternal.

  • UAC (Union Aerospace Corporation)-themed presentation box
  • 1x Red Card
  • 1x Blue Card
  • 1x Yellow Card

Netflix Drops Season 6 Trailer For ‘Black Mirror’

Netflix dropped a trailer for the upcoming sixth season of the dystopian anthology series ‘Black Mirror’ created by Charlie Brooker. The release is planned for June 2o23 and will be produced by the entertainment studio Broke & Bones.

This season will include several guest stars including Aaron Paul, Anjana Vasan, Annie Murphy, Auden Thornton, Ben Barnes, Clara Rugaard, Daniel Portman, Danny Ramirez, Himesh Patel, John Hannah, Josh Hartnett, Kate Mara, Michael Cera, Monica Dolan, Myha’la Herrold, Paapa Essiedu, Rob Delaney, Rory Culkin, Salma Hayek Pinault, Samuel Blenkin, Zazie Beetz, and more!

You can watch the trailer below:

Brooker said to Tudum according to EW, “I’ve always felt that Black Mirror should feature stories that are entirely distinct from one another, and keep surprising people (and myself), or else what’s the point?”

“It should be a series that can’t be easily defined, and can keep reinventing itself. So partly as a challenge, and partly to keep things fresh for both me and the viewer, I began this season by deliberately upending some of my own core assumptions about what to expect,” he added.

“Consequently, this time, alongside some of the more familiar Black Mirror tropes we’ve also got a few new elements, including some I’ve previously sworn blind the show would never do, to stretch the parameters of what ‘a Black Mirror episode’ even is. The stories are all still tonally Black Mirror through and through — but with some crazy swings and more variety than ever before. And bringing it all to life we’ve got an incredible roster of disgustingly skillful, smart directors working with a cast of actors so talented they frankly have no right to exist. I can’t wait for people to binge their way through it all and hope they enjoy it — especially the bits they shouldn’t,” he continued.

The interactive spin-off film ‘Black Mirror: Bandersnatch’ won five awards at the 2019 Primetime Emmy Awards including Outstanding Television Movie.

Mega Man X4 debuted on the PlayStation and SEGA Saturn in 1997. It contained several great animated story segments (with terrible voice acting), and the gameplay retained the awesome 2D sprites the previous games were known for.

The various Mega Man games can be picked up in multiple collections on PlayStation and XBOX.

The voice work in X4 may have been bad, but it was nowhere near as awful as what was in Mega Man 8. Check it out for yourself below:

The Flash’s New Trailer Focuses On Keaton’s Batman!

The second trailer for the Synderverse erasing movie The Flash is here! It is obvious that Warner Bros. wants to focus more on Michael Keaton’s Batman than Ezra Miller’s Flash—most of the good parts of the trailer feature Bruce Wayne and The Dark Knight.

Chunks of the trailer rehash what we’ve already seen in the earlier teaser. We see The Flash attempt to change the past while unexpectedly screwing up the present and future. Sasha Calle’s Supergirl gets some dialog this time, along with a quick shot of her fighting Zod.

The best shot of the trailer is the reveal of Batman’s various suits. These include one similar to Thomas Wayne’s outfit from Flashpoint. Also shown are the originals from Batman ’89 and Batman Returns. There’s a batsuit in there that looks like the Kenner Dark Knight Collection figures inspire it.

Worlds collide in “The Flash” when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he’s looking for. Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?

The Flash will dash into theatres on June 16th. Aside from bringing Keaton back into the mix, the best thing this film has done is to give us new Batman collectibles. McFarlane Toys is producing a huge Batmobile replica that puts Hasbro’s failed Ghost Rider car to shame.

SEGA of America Workers Decide to Form Union

In the games industry, the topic of unionization is a hot topic of discussion and debate. Workers at various game publishers have constantly brought up how the games industry needs to have unions to help protect and encourage the rights of workers. This involves things like compensation, balancing schedules, and many other aspects of jobs involved with the creation of video games. While many people across social media have argued about the usefulness and rationale behind unionization, one group of workers from a popular gaming company has taken a step toward forming a union.

Originally reported by The Verge, workers at SEGA of America have decided to come together and announce plans to form a union. The workers are based at SEGA of America’s offices in Irvine, California, and are working together with CWA (Communications Workers of America). The group, which consists of 144 workers, hopes that their company SEGA will voluntarily recognize the union, but has already filed a petition for elections with the National Labor Relations Board.

The group is known as AEGIS, an acronym that stands for Allied Employees Guild Improving Sega. The group took to Twitter to share a post with the announcement and followed up to clarify their goals for SEGA employees. “We believe that the passionate, hardworking people at our Irvine offices deserve a say in our working conditions, and we are joining together to advocate for change in our workplace. This is our vision for the path forward.”

This news comes after reports of Activison Blizzard and ZeniMax workers forming a union of their own. Those companies recently voted in Albany, New York to unionize, after a unanimous vote to do so. Before then, Activision Blizzard had tried to block the vote from taking place but was ultimately unsuccessful. Seven months prior to this, Activision Blizzard had the first-ever video game union formed with Raven Software. SEGA employees hope to follow in the footsteps of these companies and make working conditions for everyone better overall.

As of yet, there has been no official word from SEGA of America or SEGA of Japan about their workers forming a union, nor have employees experienced any sort of anti-union actions from management. According to those at the company, work has been underway to form a union at SEGA for over a year. When speaking with The Verge, temp localization editor Emma Geiger spoke about the efforts being made for workers at the company. “Organizing started out with making friends actually… You’d have a couple of people on your team that you’d hang out with after work. And then you’d see somebody in the office who was maybe not on your team, but worked in the same space, and you’d reach out. That sort of bridges a little bit of a gap…”

What do you think of this news about SEGA employees forming a union? Do you think this will help out everyone who works at SEGA of America? Share your thoughts about everything in the comments down below!

Review: Attack of the Doc – Remembering Attack of the Show

The early 2000s were a very different time for the internet, especially in circles that were centered on gaming and geek culture. The introduction of things like YouTube, social media, and many other things people take for granted now were in their early stages of development. Alongside all of this was the creation of a cable network G4TV, which came into being after TechTV was combined and rebranded with a slew of new shows that appealed to fans of gaming and geek culture. Of the many shows that spawned from the network, Attack of the Show was among the most popular that solidified the relevance of G4TV. Attack of the Doc, a documentary directed by former G4TV host Chris Gore, chronicles the keystone events from Attack of the Show that made G4TV what it was back then. What you get is a fun nostalgic trip back to a time when Attack of the Show and G4TV was very popular, but unfortunately, everything is held back from being truly great in some ways.

What Attack of the Doc does best is taking viewers through moments in the show’s history that were both edgy and groundbreaking in many ways. From the very beginning of G4TV coming together after TechTV was purchased, to the high point of Attack of the Show and G4TV’s popularity in the early 2000s, right up to when the network shut down. However, this is not a complete look at G4TV the network, but rather seeing things through the lens of and from the perspective of people behind Attack of the Show. There were a lot of things going on with G4TV at each of the points the documentary touches on, especially when the network was winding down. There were many shows like X-Play, Cheat, and others the documentary mentions that were on the air, but much of the focus here is on Attack of the Show.

One glaring issue with this however is very apparent early on in the documentary. While there are producers and directors of Attack of the Show back then interviewed on different topics for the documentary, the main hosts of Attack of the Show during the height of its popularity are not. Both Olivia Munn and Kevin Pereira only appear in archival footage, past interviews with comments during the time they were filmed while Attack of the Show was still on the air.

Nowhere are there any new comments or brand-new interviews with either of them for the documentary, which is a real bummer. Having their input and perspective now on how Attack of the Show was back then could’ve reinforced a lot of the insight that many of who contributed to this documentary talk about, especially since they all worked together for so long. Why Olivia and Kevin didn’t contribute to this is anyone’s guess, but their absence is definitely felt throughout.

When going through the history of the show, Attack of the Doc does a great job of revisiting older segments and giving details about how they came to be. Many of the writers and creators behind the scenes for Attack of the Show detail a lot of stories for some of the bigger segments, as well as the ones that were viewed as more controversial in the years that followed. The humor and handling of segments in it would most likely not be approved by today’s broadcasting standards, especially when Attack of the Show would edge on the line of gratuitous or nasty in some segments. But for everyone on the staff back then, things were a lot more open and free to experiment with humor.

The documentary goes to great lengths to highlight how much of the trial and error of making segments would result in very impactful and industry-changing successes. Things like the live Twitter Feed and coverage of major events like Comic Con and E3 were incredibly important that got the attention of other cable networks at the time, resulting in Attack of the Show winning a few awards for their work. If you watched any of these segments live back in the day, you’ll have a lot of fun revisiting them again here.

Unfortunately, there are moments where Attack of the Doc lingers a bit long at certain points, getting caught up in the nostalgia rather than trying to say anything significant about it. There are points where some of the AOTS team comment on how different things would be approached today, or how networks and creators were heavily inspired by their work back then, but it’s littered far between long periods of reminiscing. For longtime G4TV fans, the nostalgia trip is great and a fun way to relive things they saw live. But for everyone else without that experience, or anyone just curious about the differences between G4TV now and back then, these segments will drag on for a bit too long.

Speaking of modern G4TV, the documentary doesn’t do much to say anything about the reboot of the network years later, let alone the reboot of Attack of the Show. While there’s a lot of discussion about the standards for today compared to back then, there are very few spots where any comparison or comment is made about the newer G4TV. The documentary is focused on much about Attack of the Show and its history, but a big chunk of that story is what was happening to the G4TV network, and what it ultimately became.

Part of that history also includes the reboot of Attack of the Show that came later, since AOTS was one of the main shows that came with the revitalization of G4TV. There’s a very brief mention about G4TV making a comeback towards the end of the documentary, but it’s part of a very quick gag that ends up saying nothing, nor does it cover anything that happened with the reboot. Some people might find this to be appropriate since Attack of the Doc is covering more of the classic G4TV era of Attack of the Show, but it ultimately feels like an entire chapter of the story that’s missing.

Anyone who grew up watching TV during this era will resonate with the trip down memory lane, especially if you were a gaming or geek culture fan that loved classic G4TV. Attack of the Doc definitely accomplishes its goal of going back to what made the network special, as well as highlighting how Attack of the Show endured for so long because of the reception of die-hard fans and loyal supporters. But everyone else that wasn’t exposed to G4TV of that era won’t come out of this with any new perspective or appreciation for what it was. They won’t have any more to think in relation to the new rebooted era of G4TV and Attack of the Show either. Perhaps in the future, another documentary done in the same style can have a wider outlook on G4TV and its history of shows, with hopefully more input from even more of the personalities and people behind the camera of the content they produced. But for now, this is just a good way to reminisce about a time that’s long past. If you know, you definitely know.

Are you a fan of G4TV programs or grew up watching the network on TV? What was your favorite thing about Attack of the Show or any of the classic G4TV shows from back then? Share your thoughts and memories of everything down below in the comment section!

Sentai Reveals May 2023 Anime Home Video Release Slate

0

Sentai Filmworks made some announcements for their Blu-ray home video release slate. Half will feature their original Japanese audio with the other half featuring a dubbed version.

They revealed the English dub releases on their website:

FATE / STAY NIGHT

Shirou Emiya has only just begun to learn to use magic, yet when he finds himself caught in a battle between two powerful Magus, he somehow manages to perform a spell far above his expected abilities and summons a beautiful heroic spirit to protect him! But now he and the woman known as Saber find themselves trapped in a secret game of dark magic and duels to the death known as the Holy Grail War. A prize of unbelievable power is at stake, but can the inexperienced Shirou and Saber survive long enough to become real players? They’ll have to withstand waves of treachery and assassination as Shirou scrambles to learn everything he’ll need to know to stay alive as seven teams of Magus and Servants face off in mortal combat in the complete collection of FATE/STAY NIGHT!

THE DEMON GIRL NEXT DOOR SEASON 2

Yuko thought that her life had been turned completely upside down when she learned that she and her entire family were demons, but it seems the universe has only begun to mess with her now horned head. For example, what’s a succubus supposed to do when she challenges one of the local Magical Girls to a duel, but they misinterpret it to be an invitation to hang out instead? Then there’s questions like what kind of restrictions should you put on ancestors who borrow your body? And let’s not even get into the issues of proper etiquette when the other local Magical Girl moves into one’s apartment complex or inheriting stupidly powerful magical artifacts! Basically, Yuko’s life is going to be hell as it’s just one bedeviling problem after another in the second season of THE DEMON GIRL NEXT DOOR!

MAJESTIC PRINCE

Humanity was about to make its next great leap in the conquest of space when the attack came. As it quickly became clear that the alien Wulgaru’s technology for warfare far surpassed that of Earth’s, desperation set in. But there was one hope – the genetically modified humans who had been intended for the next wave of exploration. Now, coupled with new and untested advanced weapon systems, the Evolved Children have instead become Mankind’s last line of defense. Their task seems as impossible as it is simple, to follow orders, to kill the enemy, and to fight to their last breath. Izuru, Asagi, Kei, Tamaki, and Suruga of Team Rabbits were meant to be explorers. Instead, they’ve become cannon fodder in the deadliest of battlegrounds, the empty void between the stars in MAJESTIC PRINCE and MAJESTIC PRINCE: GENETIC AWAKENING!

Sentai also revealed titles that would only have the original Japanese audio with English subtitles:

ONIPAN

Remember those cartoon character-based undergarments that kids used to wear? How many of those brightly colored sets were sold in the hope that they might actually grant someone superpowers? And what if they actually could? Three young Japanese Oni are about to answer that question when they’re transferred into a normal middle school as part of a plan to ease relations between humans and demons! How? Because when extra-large problems arise, they can don special tiger-striped underpants… Oni-Pants… that let them transform and use special Oni abilities to make brief work of the issue! Of course, with great underwear comes great responsibilities (and the danger of accidental Mooning while in senshi mode), but if someone has to wear the big girl undies, then the future’s foundation will hopefully be fundamentally secure with ONIPAN!

WOLF GIRL & BLACK PRINCE

Okay, perhaps making up a fake boyfriend to impress her new classmates was a dumb idea, but how was Erika to know that the guy in the photo she’d used was another student in her school? And who could have guessed that such a good-looking guy would turn out to be such a dog? Only it’s Erika who’s in the doghouse now, because that’s the price Kyoya Sata demands of her in exchange for keeping silent. That’s right, she’s literally his bitch, forced to run, fetch, and even bark at his command! And that’s not even the most mind-boggling part of the whole situation… because, for inexplicable reasons, she’s starting to like him! O.M.G.! Is this Puppy Love or Stockholm Syndrome? Find out when romance goes waaayyy off the leash in WOLF GIRL & BLACK PRINCE!

These releases are currently available for pre-order and will be released between May 2, 2023, and May 23, 2023.
