The Lost JBVO Dragon Ball Z Episode Has Been Found

If you grew up in the 90s and early 200s watching television, then you’ll remember how big Cartoon Network was for fans of anime. The network was one of the main stations where new anime fans were born, watching mega-popular shows that were aired on blocks like Toonami. Cartoon Network was the place where many fans first got a glimpse of shows like Dragon Ball Z and many others that became smash hits in North America and other places outside of Japan. One piece of media that was made during this timeframe was believed to have been lost forever but has recently been found to the delight of longtime anime and Cartoon Network fans.

Thought to have been lost for the last 23 years, an episode of JBVO: Your All Request Cartoon Show that featured Dragon Ball Z has now been rediscovered and found. The episode was uploaded to the Internet Archive by users SandersPlanet & Jericho, which was afterward shared by YouTuber LSuperSonicQ to everyone over Twitter. The lost episode has a viewer request to see an episode of Dragon Ball Z, which is then given commentary by Johnny Bravo in a 2X speed summary.

The episode of Dragon Ball Z that was requested on the show was the one where Goku kills Frieza on Planet Namek after becoming a Super Saiyan. Because the JBVO show had a rule to not show half-hour shows for their caller requests, Johnny Bravo could only fulfill the caller’s request by doing a quick 30-second expositional commentary of the DBZ episode.

This lost episode of JBVO aired only once on May 7th, 2000, and was never aired again afterward. For a long time, it was nearly impossible to rewatch the episodes since it was never shown again on Cartoon Network nor included in any VHS or DVD releases. The rediscovery of this episode of JBVO, and sharing of other JBVO episodes online, is part of an effort online by many to help preserve animation history from various eras. Many have taken it upon themselves to find and upload clips and episodes of many shows thought to have been lost or forgotten over the years.

JBVO was a spin-off series of the cartoon show Johnny Bravo, one of Cartoon Network’s biggest series that aired back in the day. It had a total of 28 episodes that aired on Cartoon Network from 2000 – 2001, which had Johnny Bravo hosting and taking requests from viewers on what cartoons they wanted to see. This would include showing segments of other Cartoon Network shows of the time. JBVO was canceled after only one season.

What do you think about this lost JBVO episode that featured Dragon Ball Z in it? Would you want to see other lost media from that era get found so you can watch it? Share your thoughts about everything down below in the comment section!

New Lord of the Rings MMO Coming from Amazon Games

Despite the lukewarm reception of the Middle-Earth-based show Rings of Power, Amazon is far from being done with the world of The Lord of the Rings. Multiple video games based on the J.R.R Tolkien-created universe have been in development for some time, including the upcoming The Lord of the Rings: Gollum for multiple platforms. But Amazon Games is planning a return to the MMO realm with a new game based on The Lord of the Rings franchise. Whether it will have strong ties to the Rings of Power show or any specific age within Tolkien’s universe is still unknown, for now.

Amazon Games Orange County, the development team behind New World, is making the newly announced Lord of the Rings MMO role-playing game. The team is teaming up with Embracer Group’s Middle-Earth Enterprises, the current entity that is in charge of everything that is related to media based on The Lord of the Rings. According to news released by Amazon Games, this new game will be an open-world MMO adventure set within Middle-Earth and will be made for PC and consoles. The game is now in the early development stages and probably won’t be completed for a long time.

Amazon had previously tried to put together an MMO based on The Lord of the Rings before but to no avail. That game was canceled by Amazon back in 2021 according to a report by Bloomberg, citing the cause of the cancelation being a business disagreement between Amazon and Tencent. Since the cancelation of that game, there have been very few game releases based on The Lord of the Rings, despite Amazon expressing interest in trying again for some time.

Amazon Games vice president Christopher Hartmann commented on the announcement of the new MMO when speaking with IGN. “Bringing players a fresh take on The Lord of the Rings has long been an aspiration for our team, and we’re honored and grateful that Middle-earth Enterprises is entrusting us with this iconic world… This is a completely new game because the license is much, much wider… It’s really the freedom we have in terms of gameplay features where now anything is possible, and the limitation is where it’s technically possible or not…”

Many gamers will remember another game that was released back in 2007 called The Lord of the Rings Online. It was an MMO role-playing game that was released shortly after the mega-popular World of Warcraft, which caused a renewed interest in the MMO genre. While The Lord of the Rings Online was popular among Tolkien fans and MMO players, it never achieved the same type of success or critical praise that World of Warcraft had. Lord of the Rings Online was active for a long time and received a boost in player activity in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic when the DLC content for the game was made free for everyone to play.

Other details about the newly announced Lord of the Rings MMO from Amazon Games are currently unknown. Because development is in the very early stages, we won’t be hearing much about it for a long time. This includes any specific details on whether the game will be set within a certain age of Middle-Earth, or if any of the classic characters featured in Tolkien’s stories will make any appearance in at all. Depending on when the game takes place, who knows if we’ll be receiving quests from fan favorites like Gandalf, Aragorn, Galadriel, or even Elrond. Or if we’ll be fighting the forces of Sauron in any capacity.

CEO of Freemode, Lee Guinchard, also shared some words about the upcoming MMO. “We have the clear ambition to create the highest-quality entertainment products for this IP, whether we utilize internal resources or team up with the best industry partners that complement our capabilities. We’re taking every care to deliver an MMO which will do justice to the expansive Middle-earth universe and delight players around the world.”

Justice League’s Darkseid 1:1 Bust Is Impressive

Although he didn’t get the kind of screentime Thanos had in the MCU, Darkseid was still a menacing figure in the soon-to-be-defunct Snyderverse. His more significant presence in the director’s cut of the film showed that he could have been one hell of a foe for the small group of demigods and metahumans.

Regardless of the DCEU’s fate, the film’s version of Darkseid lives on thanks to the collectibles market. One such item is a massive 1:1 bust of the legendary DC Comics baddie made by Queen Studios.

Although Darkseid is stunning, the bust is probably easier to care for than other DCEU statues we’ve seen in the past from this studio. The ruler of Apokolips does not have individually rooted hair or silicone skin. Instead, it looks like Darkseid is made out of mainly resin and polyurethane.

The New God does, however, come with glass eyes that are lit via LEDs, as is the base. On the backside of the base sits a smaller version of Darkseid on a throne.

Of course, like many other Queen Studios releases we’ve covered in the past, this mega-bust isn’t available in the United States. So only Darkseid fans in Mainland China, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa may drop a few grand on this 1:1 sculpture.

If you are from one of those areas listed above, make sure to pre-order your Darkseid statue soon because only 99 of these will be made.

PCS will produce two Prince statues, one with his 2007 Miami look and one clad in his iconic Purple Rain outfit. The price difference between the two is only $50, with Miami Prince being $1,250 and Purple Rain Man being $1,300.

The steel-clad leader of the Foot Clan has never looked this badass! Oroku Saki’s bladed armor is super sinister looking and is probably worth every bit of his $1,350 price tag. Oh, and only 275 of these 1:3 scale statues are being made.

Shredder stands 27″ tall, including the base. He may not come with a soft goods outfit, but the sculpted detail on his purple and black clothing is supreme. Scattered at his feet are some familiar weapons for those who used to have the Playmates TMNT figures.

The Shredder statue is fully sculpted to capture the blend of realism and comic book style that the TMNT Legends line is known for. Shredder’s armor and signature claws are sculpted in great detail, showcasing the distressed quality expected from a battle-hardened warrior. His flowing cape is sculpted with realistic textures and an exciting sense of movement adding an element of drama to the otherwise stoic ninja. Gold accents on his pauldrons and katanas complete the look of this exciting interpretation of the classic villain.

McFarlane Toys’ Super Powers Adds Wonder Woman’s Invisible Jet

It only took about 40 years for us to get a Kenner-styled Invisible Jet finally! McFarlane Toys continues to mine nostalgia from kids from the 1980s with the relaunched Super Powers toy line.

Why Wonder Woman’s iconic yet transparent vehicle was not part of the original run is a mystery. Then again, Kenner did give Superman a jogger for some reason… Regardless, the Invisible Jet is here and can fit McFarlane Toys’ new Super Powers figures as well as the original heroes (who are slightly shorter).

Wonder Woman’s camouflaged sky vehicle is set to arrive this summer. Entertainment Earth has it slated for July, and you’ll probably be able to find it in Walmart around that time, too.

Although the main gimmick is that the jet is see-thru, there is another play mechanic. The belly of the plan houses a capture claw attached to the jet via a yellow lasso. Does a working canopy count as a play feature?

Unfortunately, the capture claw ruins the transparent effect since not all of the components are made out of clear plastic. Oh well.

If you couldn’t find the Wonder Woman figure in the previous wave, she’s being re-released in her classic ’80s color scheme in Super Powers Wave 4. She’s $9.99 and will also be arriving in July via Entertainment Earth.

The rest of Wave 4 is made up of classic-colored Batman, Aquaman, and Robin. McFarlane Toys is also releasing another throwback vehicle to accompany the Invisible Jet. The Batmobile has been redesigned. It now incorporates parts of the classic Filmation and George Barris cars with more modern stylings.

What do you think of the relaunched line of toys? Which figures should be added in the upcoming waves? Let us know below.

Worf Actor Michael Dorn Penning New DC Comics Steel Miniseries

‘Star Trek’ actor Michael Dorn might have wowed fans with his portrayal of Worf in ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation,’ ‘Deep Space Nine,’ and most recently in the third season of ‘Star Trek: Picard,’ but now he is trying his hand at writing comic books.

DC Comics has announced that Dorn will be writing a new comic book series “Steelworks” that features the character of John Henry Irons, known as the Justice League member Steel.

“On June 6, just in time for the character’s 30th anniversary (first appearance: Adventures of Superman #500), Actor and science fiction icon Michael Dorn, picks up the reins in his comic book writing debut in Steelworks, a six-issue limited series,” DC said on their website. “Featuring art by Sami Basri (Catwoman, Harley Quinn), Dorn is no stranger to Steel, Metropolis, or Superman, having voiced the character in the fan favorite Superman: The Animated Series.”

He expressed his excitement for the project saying, “Writing a comic book is a completely new experience for me.”

“But working with Sami and seeing his art has really helped me bring the personality of John I crafted in the series to the page,” Dorn added. “I can’t wait for fans to see what we’ve got planned!”

Created by Louise Simonson and Jon Bogdanove, Steel made his debut in the fallout from the “Death of Superman” 1992 arc. He has gone on to be an ally of Superman and the Oracle.

DC Comics described the series explaining, “While John’s professional life is firing on all cylinders, his personal life is even better, as his on-again, off-again relationship with Lana Lang might be back on, permanently. Now he must decide whether it’s time to give up being Steel once and for all. But does John even know who he would be without his superhero identity? How does the other Steel—John’s niece, Natasha Irons—feel about his momentous decision? And does any of that matter if Steelworks crumbles around him when he lacks the superpowers to fight back.”

Clay Mann will illustrate the  cover for the first issue of ‘Steelworks:’

Dorn also portrayed the President of the United States in the second season of ‘Heroes.’

Review: Queen Cleopatra – Suspect Dramatic History

Putting together a documentary series that dramatizes the history of the story being told is a very tricky task for anyone. Historical accuracy is a big component of everything as much as making the drama look and feel interesting for viewers. Unfortunately, the Queen Cleopatra docudrama on Netflix fails on all aspects of what makes an interesting and fairly accurate summary of the Egyptian queen, Cleopatra. The biggest Achilles heel of this series is how a look at this well-known historical figure is blurred and frequently blinded by a modern lens that feels incredibly disingenuous and very questionable.

This Netflix series has been immersed in controversy since it was first announced and revealed in trailers, attracting the ire and hostility of many worldwide. But while many other people can debate on the historical fact or fiction of whether Cleopatra was light or dark-skinned, the series does very little to make a point or prove one it can stand on. Many of the statements and claims made by the scholars and experts included in Queen Cleopatra are put forward without any supporting info or evidence outside of personal beliefs and hyper subjectivity of historical records. This is a major problem for something that tries to present itself as a historical observation of a figure who lived many years ago, as well as her contemporaries in history that were alive back then.

Much of the glaring inaccuracies and issues presented that cover Cleopatra’s life, such as her political ambitions and reputation in the ancient world, could have been pacified if the series was advertised as a fictional retelling of history, rather than an accurate one. But that’s not how this series presents itself, nor do any of the speakers say that during any point of the series. Things are just said and not further explored or supported with additional facts or insight.

Queen Cleopatra is made to look like a special one would find on National Geographic or The History Channel, with the credibility that would normally come with stories told on those networks. But what’s here is a bullet point rundown of Cleopatra’s life and historical relevance made into a spectacle that aims to convey a message that may be outside the truth of the real person. It comes off as incredibly disingenuous and very obnoxious to the culture and history it covers.

But what about the drama? Is the fictional exaggeration of Cleopatra’s life at least passable enough to forgive any historical inaccuracy? The short answer is no. Much of the cast playing various historical figures from Egypt and Rome in the ancient world give a very surface-level performance, bordering on amateur in many cases. While most specials that try to show historical events through drama don’t always have the best acting, the bar is made incredibly low in Queen Cleopatra.

Many big events from Cleopatra’s life are twisted in the series, making her seem a lot more than what the truth actually was based on historical records that can be easily found. While there is a range of dramatization allowed to give emotion or importance to key events, the series goes a bit too far in some spots and change up the dynamics of relationships between Cleopatra and other historical figures. This includes how the show depicts Cleopatra’s sister Arsinoe IV, her brother Ptolemy XIV, Julius Caesar, Marc Anthony, and many others.

On top of all of this, many of the sets and backgrounds appear to be very mediocre. We don’t get the scope of the ancient world during Cleopatra’s life, nor do we really see much of the kingdom she ruled or visited. While it’s not necessary to show much to make a point, we’re never truly immersed in the environment of Cleopatra’s time. There’s also a severe lack of imagery of Cleopatra from artifacts and relics of the time, which have been found and recovered over many years. This really dampens the credibility of giving a rounded and sharp look at the Egyptian Queen’s lifetime.

There were many statues, paintings, and renditions of Cleopatra that deified and revered her, despite the debate about her skin color and physical features. Instead, the series wants viewers to accept its own perspective of Cleopatra without the support or reference of objects directly from her era. Again, if the showrunners are not going to state that this is more fiction than fact, but want the be given the same credibility as more scholarly looks at history, then this is a very hard thing to ignore.

Queen Cleopatra is a bad series that tries to be more than what it actually is and ultimately ends up being a disingenuous attempt at covering a well-known historical figure. The facts about the Egyptian queen are poorly researched and supported, the drama is laughably bad, and the production of the series is haphazard. There are far better interpretations and series which cover the history of Cleopatra that are more worth your time. They live up to the legacy of the woman behind the history. This Netflix series on the other hand will be long forgotten by the sands of time.

What do you think about the Queen Cleopatra series on Netflix and the discussion about it? Have you had a chance to watch all of the episodes? Post a comment down below and let us know what you thought about it!

Review: The Mother – Disjointed Warrior

Star power can have a big effect on almost any movie, causing the fans of a particular actor or actress to support and stand by whatever project they are part of. This is definitely the case for Hollywood superstar Jennifer Lopez, who has been in multiple films throughout the years. Whether they were good or bad, JLo fans showed up to watch and support regardless. This is definitely the case for the Netflix film release The Mother, starring Jennifer Lopez as an assassin who goes on the run to protect her daughter from some very bad people.

The assassin that JLo plays is never given a name, she’s just known as The Mother when she gives birth to a child after a run-in with an ex-SAS marine named Adrian Lovell who nearly kills her. The Mother was involved with Lovell in the shady business of weapons smuggling with an arms dealer named Hector Alvarez, until she discovered they were human trafficking, causing the Mother to go on the run. After the incident with Lovell, the Mother gives up her child to a foster family and disappears into a quiet life far away where neither her child nor anyone else could find her. But many years later, the Mother’s child becomes endangered by Hector’s men are found with a photo of her. Both the Mother and a friendly FBI Agent need to protect the child as hitmen begin to close in and seek revenge, leading to many shootouts and a fight for survival.

While Jennifer Lopez flexes her acting muscles by committing to the grim and stern attitude of the Mother that she plays, it’s not enough to fully pull the weight of the story and cast around her. The Mother feels like two separate movies that were stitched together, with one half feeling like an action spy-thriller and the other a survival film.

There’s a point midway through the film where it makes an abrupt shift in gears and becomes an entirely different story than what was shown before. The action in multiple sections of the movie is solid, with lots of bullets flying and brutal scenes that match the movie’s initial pitch. However, the slower moments in between feel forced and borderline lackluster in some sections.

The rest of the cast outside of Jennifer Lopez doesn’t have a lot of good things going for them, let alone the same presence as JLo when on screen. The story feels as if it holds no emotional weight with some of the poor delivery from various characters, which comes off as awkward. Not every character in the film suffers from this, but there are a few that stand out from the bad guys Jennifer Lopez encounters.

Lucy Paez, who plays the daughter of the Mother named Zoe, does the best she can with the material given. Unfortunately, most of what she does and goes through in the film becomes obsolete by the end. At one point in the story, the Mother tries to impart harsh life lessons on her daughter as a means of survival, but by the time all of the conflict gets resolved, it feels like nothing mattered. She does get some moments to use some of the skills she learned from the Mother, but they are very brief.

Had the majority of the movie been more about the Mother and her daughter staying out of sight and surviving, then everything would have felt like it mattered more by the end. The same goes for the first half of the film with Jennifer Lopez working with Omari Hardwick, who plays the FBI agent Cruise. The two of them track down to where Hector’s men have taken her daughter, only for him to be gone from the film shortly after. If the majority of the movie was focused on the two of them chasing leads and fighting to find Zoe, everything about the plot would have been far more interesting and significant by the end.

Luckily, the movie does have enough great action sequences that show off some great choreography and brutal moments.  The body count that JLo racks up is pretty high, with many coming from sniper shots and pistol shoot-outs in various locations. She even gets into a few good hand-to-hand fights to show off her military assassin skills. These are well done and look pretty good.

The same can be said for Omari Hardwick when he’s in on the action but is sadly undercut when he’s no longer around. By the end, you do get some tense sequences between JLo and the main bad guy, and the stakes are very high. When it’s all said and done though, you might ask yourself if everything prior to that really mattered in hindsight.

The Mother is a movie that could have been handled better and put together a better experience overall, despite some of the good action it has. Jennifer Lopez is a superstar that brings attention to any project she is part of, but it’s not enough to automatically make a film a good watch. Fans of hers will still enjoy seeing this, because she’s definitely a highlight, but everyone else looking beyond that won’t find much to like here.

Are you going to see The Mother on Netflix anytime soon? Do you consider yourself a fan of Jennifer Lopez and her movies? Let us know your thoughts down below in the comment section!
