Val Kilmer Returns In Prime 1 Studio’s ‘Batman Forever’ Statue

Batman Forever and its star Val Kilmer are being brought back to the collectibles market by Prime 1 Studio. In February 2023, this 1/3rd scale premium statue will debut with multiple different versions and a very cool optional accessory.
Measuring at 38 inches, the sculpted muscle armor that became iconic in the Batman films of the 1990s is on full display here, as are the stylish gadgets. Grapples, batarangs, darts, batcuffs, and more are available via the Gadget Wall Display accessory.

The talented team of sculptors and painters have expressed their passion and dedication in their work by crafting a Batman with incredible likeness and impeccable quality! Taken as a whole, Batman’s costume is stylish and stealthy, an improvement over the design of the last two suits! Posed in an iconic stance, Batman’s attention is pulled off to his right, in a direction we may never know about. The unbelievable craftsmanship in his face alone, should sell you on this statue: from his lifelike eyes to the subtle pout of his lips, to the natural complexion of his skin. Likewise, his fantastic anatomy has been sculpted to exacting perfection. Taut, but not tense. Solid, but not inflexible.
Batman is equipped with a svelte Utility Belt and synthetic leather cape that possesses the weight and feel of his cinematic cape. Batman’s formidable base is rendered in realistic rocky textures, cool metallic painting, and natural airbrushing to call to mind his legendary Batcave. And decorating the front and back of this pedestal is his Bat symbol logo and Bats.
Furthermore, the Batman Ultimate Bonus Version comes with a number of incredible additions! First and foremost is the jaw-dropping in-scale Gadget Wall from Batman Forever! The wall is festooned with a number of chrome-covered Bat Gadgets as seen in the movie, a Bat Cowl on display, and an impressive stalagmite base! And to extend the display flexibility of your future Batman statue, Prime 1 Studio has also included in total three different swappable right forearms! Switch out between a balled-up fist, a hand clutching a Batarang, or a hand gripping a Grapnel. Whichever you choose will only serve to make this statue even cooler looking!

Prime 1 Studio’s statue is a real premium product. I’m not talking about just the quality look, but the price tag, too. Depending on which version you go with, Batman will cost between $1,444.99 to $1,889.99. The Gadget Wall Display also commands a hefty sum. For the wall o’ props, that will be another $554.99.
I was in my teens when Batman Forever hit theatres. It was a departure from Tim Burton’s earlier films. Some of the aesthetic choices were cool, but it was drifting too far into the 1966 TV show’s style for my taste. I always felt that Jim Carrey was trying to play the Joker rather than the Riddler, ya know?
What are your thoughts on the sequels that followed Batman Returns? Campy goodness or rancid dribble? Let us know in the comments.

Finally! Retro-Style Labyrinth and Time Bandit Action Figures!

Plastic Meatball will be producing retro-style action figures from two cult classics: Jim Henson’s Labyrinth and Terry Gilliam’s Time Bandits after he got transformed into a pig, Sarah, Jareth the Goblin King, the Evil Genius, and poor Og.
Much like Super7’s ReAction line, these toys are simplistic as far as detail and articulation are concerned and measure 3.75″ tall. Plastic Meatball’s motto is, “We’re making products for ourselves just as much as we are for you.  If we don’t love it, we don’t make it.

Plastic Meatball must still be working on the rights to use David Warner’s likeness. The bandits, creatures, and characters of Time Bandits would make for a cool little collection, no pun intended. Unfortunately, I can’t see kids being excited to play with the Supreme Being when he’s just a guy in a suit.
The possibilities are endless if Plastic Meatball starts chasing Gilliam films for toy ideas. Perhaps this means we can expect a set of Baron Munchausen figures? I’d buy them. A winged Sam from Brazil and the Circuit Samurai? OK, I’m starting to fill my head with too many hopes that may never come true.

Time Bandits was one of Terry Gilliam’s high-concept fantasy films. Like Brazil, it featured unique visuals, amazing costumes, and a sometimes confusing plot. A band of little people “borrow” a map to all the shortcuts through time and space. They plan on making off with a bunch of loot until they meet a young boy, and the group is pursued by both God and the Devil.
The film had a bunch of the typical Gilliam cameos and a few surprising ones. It, of course, ends on an awkward note, much like Brazil, Munchausen, and Holy Grail.
What are your thoughts on this new line of retro-inspired action figures? Does this mean Super7 has some serious competition? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Iron Studios Knows That King Shark Is Always Hungry

In 2022, Iron Studios will be shipping out this gruesomely adorable 9″ tall statue of The Suicide Squad’s King Shark. Voiced by Sylvester Stallone, Nanaue is the stand-out star of James Gunn’s DC sequel that just launched on HBOMax.
This 1/10th scale representation of  Karl Kesel’s creation comes complete with shorts and nom noms. Yes, we should all become friends with King Shark, mainly because that means he probably won’t eat you. Part villain, part anthropophagi, but all deadly.

The corpulent creature, wearing only a pair of shorts, opens its deadly mouth, showing dozens of sharp triangular teeth, to enjoy a peculiar and bizarre snack. Ignoring the wounds and scars spread across his thick blue-gray skin, apparently relaxed, he is always ready and willing to satiate his constant and ravenous appetite. Represented in the statue \”King Shark BDS Art Scale 1/10 – The Suicide Squad – Iron Studios\”, we present the most feared (and sometimes comical) ocean predator in the DC universe and member of the Suicide Squad.

King Shark’s statue will be out sometime between July and September 2022. He can be pre-ordered now for $169.99.
Features:

  • Limited edition
  • Based on original references
  • Made in polystone – *(may contain parts in resin, polystone, PVC, metal and fabric)
    Hand painted
  • Product dimensions: 9 in (H) x 5.5 in (W) x 6.7 in (D)
  • Product Weight: 0.9 lbs

I wish I could remember more from The Suicide Squad, but I fell asleep during the first attempted viewing. I remember that King Shark was my favorite part until the 40-minute mark, and I was swept away by the Sandman.

King Shark is deadly, dumb, and somehow lovable. What are your thoughts on the character and the sequel? Let us know in the comments.

“First Look” Teaser For ‘Doom Patrol’ Season 3 Released

0

Doom Patrol is making its streaming comeback with the announcement that it is coming back to HBO Max with the release of a “first look” teaser. It is said to be released in late September and will run through November.
Check out the trailer:

According to a press release from Warner Media,
“DOOM PATROL reimagines one of DC’s most beloved groups of Super Heroes: Robotman aka Cliff Steele (Brendan Fraser), Negative Man aka Larry Trainor (Matt Bomer), Elasti-Woman aka Rita Farr (April Bowlby), Crazy Jane (Diane Guerrero) and Cyborg aka Victor Stone (Joivan Wade), all led by modern-day mad scientist Niles Caulder aka The Chief (Timothy Dalton). Each member of the Doom Patrol suffered a horrible accident that gave them superhuman abilities, but also left them scarred and disfigured. Part support group, part Super Hero team, the Doom Patrol is a band of superpowered freaks who fight for a world that wants nothing to do with them.”
Season three opens on the culmination of Dorothy’s (Abi Monterey) confrontation with the Candlemaker that leads to a devastating loss. The Doom Patrol is at a difficult crossroads and each member struggles to face who they are and who they want to be. And things get a whole lot more complicated when Madame Rouge (Michelle Gomez) arrives in a time machine with a very specific mission, if only she could remember it.

DOOM PATROL is produced by Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television with Jeremy Carver, Geoff Johns, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Chris Dingess and Tamara Becher-Wilkinson serving as executive producers. The series is based on characters created for DC by Arnold Drake, Bob Haney and Bruno Premiani.

The show was originally a spin-off of ‘Titans,’ both of which were released for video-on-demand service DC Universe, but both were subsequently moved to HBO Max.

Apple TV Nabs Matthew Vaughn Spy Flick ‘Argylle’

0

Matthew Vaughn and his production company MARV announced his upcoming film ‘Argylle,’ a spy thriller that features a star-studded cast of big celebrity names attached to it. Now it seems that the ‘X-Men: First Class’ director is taking to the streaming route for its release with Apple TV nabbing the distribution rights for it.
Deadline reports that Apple TV is paying $200 million for the film and while the deal is just for ‘Argylle,’ there has also been consideration to turn it into a full-on spy franchise to rival another secret agent, James Bond. This is a lofty goal, but with 007’s latest flick ‘No Time To Die’ facing constant delays, it could gear up for a rival.
That Hashtag Show explained, “So what is this ‘Argylle’ film that everyone is going on about? Well, it’s apparently a new spy thriller based on the book of the same name by Ellie Conway. Or at least, it will be when the book actually comes out. I can’t find any listing for it anywhere, so you’re going to have to trust us that this book will eventually see the light of day. Somehow, somewhere. Anyways, this film isn’t going to be a standalone spy film though. Apparently, Matthew Vaughn wants to make at least 3 films from it. So yeah, this seems to have the potential to be the next big spy action franchise. That must be one good book for that to happen.”
The ensemble cast includes Henry Cavill (Man of Steel), Sam Rockwell (Moon), Bryce Dallas Howard (Jurassic World), Bryan Cranston (Trumbo), Catherine O’Hara (When Marnie Was There), John Cena (The Suicide Squad), Samuel L. Jackson (Snakes On A Plane), and singer Dua Lipa, who is making her feature film debut.
Vaughn said of the project, “When I read this early draft manuscript I felt it was the most incredible and original spy franchise since Ian Fleming’s books of the 50s. This is going to reinvent the spy genre.”

Topps Is Now The Exclusive Place To Buy MEGO Action Figures

The MEGO brand is alive and will soon become available exclusively online. MEGO will start offering 8″ and 14″ figures only through the trading card company in collaboration with Topps. MEGO toys include nearly every franchise under the sun, from horror movie icons to superheroes, to the cast of sitcoms.

Topps | MEGO

Available starting on August 16th, Topps.com will feature the most iconic action figures throughout the decades, from every genre imaginable – Superheroes, Horror, Pop Culture, Sci-Fi, and more! The exclusive Mego figures, including new characters and reimagined classics, will be available to purchase only through the Topps website, with new action figures dropping every Monday! The exclusive Mego figures will be available in a variety of sizes, including a combination of 8-inch and 14-inch for collectors and fans to enjoy!

We found more details about this over at Figures.com. A quote from Topps’ VP of Product Development, Clay Luraschi, laid out the plans for this collaboration, “We are thrilled to be collaborating with a nostalgic, industry-leading brand like Mego Figures who understands the heritage and timeless hobby of collecting. We’re always looking for new ways to grow our product offerings as we continue to expand our e-commerce business, and we’re excited to help reunite collectors with some of the most legendary figures of our time.
MEGO toys have had a weird resurgence over the past decade. Before that, you’d see random convention exclusive MEGO figures, but not an ongoing line. Then out of nowhere, Target was stocking Cheers, Happy Days, and DC Comics MEGOs.
The line slowly migrated out of Target and into Walmart. Finally, this past week we spotted the Gene Wilder Willy Wonka MEGO. The line is still alive, but maybe it needs a better strategy to reach those who really want these 8″ tall bits of nostalgia. Hopefully, Topps can do that.
MEGO figures were on the way out of popularity when I was a kid, rapidly being replaced by the 3.75″ toy craze that Kenner’s Star Wars started. But, for the time, MEGO was great. The company produced toys from so many different franchises that kids had almost infinite opportunities for crossover events. Want to have Batman fight Dr. Zaius? MEGO has you covered. Spider-Man teaming up with Luke and Bo Duke to jump the ‘General Lee’ over a row of Captain Kirks? Not a problem!
Were you a MEGO kid growing up? Let us know in the comments which figures you had!

The Iron Giant Has Three New Super7 ReAction Figures

Twenty-two years ago, The Iron Giant stomped into theatres and delivered one of the greatest animated films to ever come out of a studio that wasn’t Disney. The beloved metallic goliath remains in the hearts of animation fans to this day. Now, the heroic robot is getting his own ReAction figures, thanks to Super7.
Super7, the company well known for producing made-to-order action figures designed after the 3.75″ toys of the 1980s, is producing three action figures based on The Iron Giant. These include the Giant as he appears throughout most of the movie, the “Superman” Giant and the Giant in battle mode.

Super7

When a giant robot falls from the sky near Rockwell and is found by a young Hogarth Hughes, a story of discovery, adventure, and redemption begins to unfold. This 3.75” articulated Iron Giant ReAction figure features intricate sculpting and is accompanied by a 1” tall Hogarth figure. Add this Iron Giant ReAction figure to your collection and let it be a link to the movie that introduced us to a giant robot with an even bigger heart.

Super7

The Iron Giant doesn’t want to be seen as dangerous or bad, even when playing pretend with his pal Hogarth. Rather than be the comic book robot villain Atomo, he wants to be a good guy. This 3.75” articulated “Super” Iron Giant ReAction figure features intricate sculpting and the large red “S” the Iron Giant wore to show Hogarth he wanted to be a hero like Superman. This Iron Giant ReAction figure is a good reminder that regardless of the pressures and stresses in our lives, we can still be the hero we really desire to be.

Rounding out the trio is the Giant in his battle mode. This comes at the end of the film as the robot’s true nature is revealed, and he goes on a rampage to destroy anything in his path. Who knew that a small bump on the head was all that kept us safe?

The Iron Giant is generally docile and curious as his friendship with young Hogarth develops. However, if provoked, you better watch out! This 3.75” articulated Attacking Iron Giant features all the fearsome weapons that the Iron Giant is capable of unleashing when his attack protocols are activated. Tri-Scorpion cannons, Energy Claw, Spark Spinner Gun, and more…they’re all here!

Merchandise for The Iron Giant isn’t something we typically see in stores. However, recently I saw a “walking” Iron Giant toy at Walmart, which was a cool find. I remember the initial toyline that launched with the film. If I recall, it didn’t sell too well. Since then, there have been a couple of figures or statues here and there. If there were ever a company to do the loveable mechanoid justice, it would be Super7.
The three figures are currently available to order separately via Super 7. Each Iron Giant is $18. Click here to collect all three.
Did you have any of the original Iron Giant merchandise? If so, which figures? Let us know in the comments.

TMNT X Power Rangers Collab Recruits The Shredder, Raphael, and Tommy

Hasbro has announced three more action figures from the 6″ Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles X Power Rangers line. This news delivers the last of the four turtles and their greatest villains: Red Ranger Raph, Green Ranger Shredder, and a Foot Soldier Tommy round this latest release.
First up is the two-pack of Foot Soldier Tommy and Red Ranger Raphael. It seems a little odd to throw Tommy, the Green Ranger, in as a member of the Foot Clan. This is made even stranger with the other figure that was recently announced.

Hasbro

Hasbro

Tommy infiltrates the Foot Clan and, when the teens from Angel Grove are cut off from their powers, Raphael uses Jason’s morpher to become a new Red Ranger.

Of course, Raph would be the Red Ranger. That was a given. Pink would have worked, too. Imagine Raphael overcoming being put in the most feminine color while being the most fierce of the four brothers. Oh, the narrative possibilities would have been endless with that struggle.
Did you expect The Shredder to appear as a version of one of the Power Rangers’ villains? Me, too. However, Chrome Dome makes his debut in this series as the Green Ranger. Why? I don’t know… He does look pretty cool, though.

Hasbro
Hasbro
Hasbro

Shredder uses the power of the Tommy’s coin and morphs into a twisted, evil version of the Green Ranger.

The Green Ranger’s outfit suits Shredder well. This design of the prickly villain looks reminiscent of the 2003 TMNT series. He would also make for an awesome cosplay costume.
I was expecting Shredder to be Rita Repulsa, and I am still holding out that Kraang will be morphed with Lord Zedd. It makes sense. He’s got an exposed brain, and Kraan is a talking brain. What are your thoughts on what other TMNT characters should appear as members of the Power Rangers franchise? Let us know in the comments.

Tiffany, the Bride of Chucky, Is Mezco’s Latest MDS Mega Scale Doll

The Bride of Chucky herself, Tiffany Valentine, will be joining her beloved in Mezco’s line of Mega Scale dolls. Decked out in her bridal gown, “leather” jacket, and signature tattoo, Tiffany is ready to say “I do” to a life of crime.
The 15″ tall doll also talks! If you’ve seen Ronny Yu’s film, you know that this little heartbreaker has a lot to say. A lot. Mezco has managed to trim all her dialog down to six choice lines. What are those lines of dialog? We’re not too sure yet.

Mezco
Mezco
Mezco

Tiffany is perfectly screen-matched from her bleached-blond hair to her black work boots. Dressed in her bridal gown with “leather” jacket, she comes complete with her TIFF necklace, tattooed décolletage, and lacquered fingernails.
Just as verbose as she was in Bride Of Chucky, Tiffany has lots to say. She speaks six phrases direct from the film, activated by a discrete button on her back. Tiffany also features realistic glass-like eyes and nine points of articulation.
Tiffany comes packaged in her own collector-friendly window box perfect for display.

Mangled Chucky had already appeared in this line. So, if you were looking to get both of them at the same time, you’re out of luck. Chucky is currently on “waiting list” status. So, it’s not clear if and when he will be available for order.
Take that as a hint that these Mega Scale dolls are in demand. Tiffany is slated to release between September and November 2021. So, hurry up and pre-order Tiffany now!
The Bride of Chucky was what the franchise needed to revitalize interest in the killer doll. The fourth film in the Child’s Play series was more than a little tongue-in-cheek, but it delivered an awesome road trip movie with two murderous toys!

What are your thoughts on Mezco’s MDS dolls? Let us know in the comments.
