Apple TV Nabs Matthew Vaughn Spy Flick ‘Argylle’

Matthew Vaughn and his production company MARV announced his upcoming film ‘Argylle,’ a spy thriller that features a star-studded cast of big celebrity names attached to it. Now it seems that the ‘X-Men: First Class’ director is taking to the streaming route for its release with Apple TV nabbing the distribution rights for it.
Deadline reports that Apple TV is paying $200 million for the film and while the deal is just for ‘Argylle,’ there has also been consideration to turn it into a full-on spy franchise to rival another secret agent, James Bond. This is a lofty goal, but with 007’s latest flick ‘No Time To Die’ facing constant delays, it could gear up for a rival.
That Hashtag Show explained, “So what is this ‘Argylle’ film that everyone is going on about? Well, it’s apparently a new spy thriller based on the book of the same name by Ellie Conway. Or at least, it will be when the book actually comes out. I can’t find any listing for it anywhere, so you’re going to have to trust us that this book will eventually see the light of day. Somehow, somewhere. Anyways, this film isn’t going to be a standalone spy film though. Apparently, Matthew Vaughn wants to make at least 3 films from it. So yeah, this seems to have the potential to be the next big spy action franchise. That must be one good book for that to happen.”
The ensemble cast includes Henry Cavill (Man of Steel), Sam Rockwell (Moon), Bryce Dallas Howard (Jurassic World), Bryan Cranston (Trumbo), Catherine O’Hara (When Marnie Was There), John Cena (The Suicide Squad), Samuel L. Jackson (Snakes On A Plane), and singer Dua Lipa, who is making her feature film debut.
Vaughn said of the project, “When I read this early draft manuscript I felt it was the most incredible and original spy franchise since Ian Fleming’s books of the 50s. This is going to reinvent the spy genre.”
