It’s A Monster Mash With Universal’s Monsters and … Transformers?

Coming exclusively to Target, Universal is mashing its classic monsters with Hasbro’s Transformers to create something unique. Draculus is a cross between a Decepticon and the classic Lugosi version of County Dracula. He’ll be arriving on November 28th only through the retail chain.
We spotted this batty bot over at Figures.com. When checking Target’s website, we saw that pre-orders were already sold out for Draculus. However, don’t get discouraged. We’ve seen many toys sell out on Target’s site this past year only to end up on shelves not long after the launch date.
The Dracticon will retail for $31.49 and comes with one of those rare Transformers accessories, a cloth cape. His bat form is a little odd, but his robot guise is pretty cool. Hasbro managed to keep familiar Bela Lugosi elements, including the fancy evening wear and even the face resembling the famed actor.

Worlds collide in this Transformers-Dracula mash-up pack! The mysterious Count Dracula takes on a new form as a Transformers robot, called Draculus! We are dealing with the undead…an undead Decepticon! Draculus rises from stasis under the cover of darkness and feeds on the Energon of the living. The Draculus figure is inspired by the vampire from the 1931 Universal Pictures film, Dracula. Figure converts into bat mode in 23 steps. Figure features details inspired by the Dracula movie, including black and white deco inspired by the black and white movie release. Comes with cape, blaster, and Impaler claw accessories.

So, will this become an ongoing series? What could Hasbro/Takara Tomy do with this idea? The Creature from the Black Lagoon could turn into something like a Sharkticon. The Wolfman is obvious without explanation. What about Frankenstein’s Monster or the Invisible Man? I don’t think every classic Universal Monster could be a viable Transformer in a way that would make logical sense.
What are your thoughts on the possible future of this mashup line? Let us know in the comments.

Funimation Announces English Dub For ‘Ikebukuro West Gate Park’

0

‘Ikebukuro West Gate Park’ is a mystery novel series written by Ira Ishida that began in September 1998 that has gained a following, leading to manga adaptions, a live-action TV series, and, of course, an anime. Doga Kobo studios released the anime in 2020 with Tomoaki Koshida directing and now Funimation has announced the show will get an English dub.
“Welcome to Ikebukuro! We’re excited to announce that the Ikebukuro West Gate Park English dub is officially on its way to Funimation, and we’ve got details on when you can watch and the English cast and crew,” Funimation writes on their website. “all 12 episodes of the Ikebukuro West Gate Park English dub will arrive on Funimation, which means you’ll be able to watch the entire series from front to back, with subtitles or in English-dubbed format very soon!”
“The English cast of the series includes Griffin Puatu (Tokyo Revengers, Beastars) as Makoto Majima, Howard Wang (SK8 the Infinity, Actors: Song Connection) as Takashi Andou and Billy Kametz (86, Promare) as Kyouichi Ozaki,” they revealed.
The show also includes Suzie Yeung as Guo, Justin Briner as Mitsuki, Daman Mills as Reiichirou, Monica Rial as Ritsuko, Ernesto Jason Liebrecht as Shigeyuki, Ry McKeand as Tomomi, and Christian Banas as Watanabe with Stephen Fu serving as ADR Director.
According to the official synopsis, “Crime-ridden Ikebukuro is a haven to violent gangs, the Yakuza, and home to Makoto Majima. A charismatic troubleshooter, he mediates disputes between the warring factions. But after losing a loved one, can he stay afloat long enough to save his home?”
Check out the trailer:

The anime’s opening theme “Needle Knot” was performed by The Pinballs with the band Formal handling the ending song. Fumihiko Shimo handled series composition, Junichirō Taniguchi designed the illustrations of the characters, and Daijirō Nakagawa worked with Ryūichi Takada at composing the music.

‘The Duke of Death and His Maid’ Gets An English Dub

0

‘The Duke of Death and His Maid’ is a Japanese romantic comedy manga series by Koharu Inoue that kicked off in October 2017 in the pages of Sunday Webry. Its popularity led to an anime being released in July 2021 by J.C.Staff and Shogakukan Music & Digital Entertainment. Funimation announced that they are releasing an English dub version of the show on their streaming service.
“Comedy? Romance? Drama? What more could you ask for? We’re excited to announce that The Duke of Death and His Maid English dub is officially on its way to Funimation, and it premieres sooner than you might think,” Funimation wrote on their website. “Episode 1 of The Duke of Death and His Maid English dub will arrive on Funimation, so if you haven’t been keeping up with the simulcast or just want to kick it off from the beginning again, it’s almost time.”
“The English cast for the series includes Clifford Chapin (My Hero Academia) as The Duke, Kristen McGuire (Dr. STONE) as Alice, Kayli Mills (Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-) as Viola and Kent Williams (The Millionaire Detective – Balance: UNLIMITED) as Rob,” they continue.
The cast also includes Sarah Wiedenheft (How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord) and Ricco Fajardo (Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out!) with Natalie Rose serving as ADR Director.
Check out the trailer:

My AnimeList describes the synopsis:
“As the elegant, frail flower petals wither away into lifeless ashes, the young duke is tragically reminded of the despicable power forced upon him—the ability to kill anything he touches. Scorned by his family, he is sent away to live in near isolation. Fortunately, he is not entirely alone, as the manor’s staff— his dutiful butler Rob and the flirtatious maid Alice—keep him company and make his life less miserable.
As the duke’s romantic feelings for Alice grow, so does his continued frustration for the limits set by his unfortunate ability. Therefore, he resolves to break the curse cast upon him all those years ago, not only for his sake, but Alice’s as well—for he is painfully aware of how difficult it is to avoid the touch of a loved one.”

Hooper Can Now Drive The Boat Alongside NECA’s JAWS Quint Figure!

Hooper, straight off the boat in Amity Island, is now represented faithfully by NECA. So now you, too, can tell him to take a long walk off a short dock. The smug but knowledgeable academic is a welcome addition to the JAWS line, which kicked off earlier this year with Quint.
Hooper will be released in March 2022, ahead of the July 4th weekend. Hooper can be pre-ordered via Entertainment Earth for $37.99. Quint is also back up for pre-order and should ship this month. Additionally, I’ve spotted Quint often at Target. So, you can also try your luck there, too.
Pair him up with NECA’s Quint and create that tense “working class hero” scene. If we don’t get Chief Brody, maybe we can get ‘Wetsuit Hooper’ with the steel cage instead? Maybe he can have a baking soda feature that will allow the cage to rise and sink? Man, that’d be cool.

NECA is excited to announce a new 8″ clothed figure featuring the licensed likeness of Richard Dreyfuss as Matt Hooper from the 1975 classic. Standing at 8″ tall, the young oceanographer is equipped with screen-accurate accessories (two hats, duffel bag, cup, and crushed cup) as well as swappable heads and hands, and tailored clothing.

I own NECA’s Quint myself. There’s no doubt that he is great-looking action figure. He’ll never leave the package, though. As much as I’d like to put him next to my Bob Ross figure, I have a feeling one of them would be broken by the next morning.
The tension between Dreyfus and Robert Shaw was real. That just wasn’t amazing on-screen chemistry. The two really did have a feud on set. Check out the video below for more information on that subject.

Pennywise Invites Us Into The Deadlights Thanks To Super7

Possibly the greatest fictional villain to ever appear in greasepaint, IT’s Pennywise form has been haunting the imaginations of audiences for over 30 years. Finally, super7 captured the friendly and fearsome faces of the ageless intergalactic evil with two new ReAction figures.
As he appears to lure children and his form once injured by The Losers, Pennywise has been added to the ever-growing ReAction figure catalog. Both are now available directly from Super7’s website.

Super7
There’s nothing overtly threatening about Pennywise, but in the back of your mind, you know something isn’t right. This 3.75” articulated IT ReAction figure of Pennywise the Clown portrays him in his relatively innocuous clown guise, complete with balloon accessory.
Super7
Yup. This is it. The nightmare fuel that is Pennywise in all his demonic glory. This 3.75” articulated IT ReAction figure of Pennywise the Monster reveals the nightmare within, featuring claw hands, sharp teeth, and the monstrous demon within.
Pennywise in both forms costs $18 apiece. Only the “regular” Pennywise comes with the balloon, however. I wonder if Super7 couldn’t secure the rights to Tim Curry’s likeness, so that’s why his face is covered.
Super7 has produced playsets before for ALIEN and Planet of the Apes. Could an IT sewer playset be in the works, complete with IT’s spider form? I’d buy it, especially if the spider has those wonky eyeballs.
IT TV Movie
People give that monster a lot of grief, but for a TV movie, it was still impressive. Sadly, we didn’t get a very book-accurate final standoff with the newer theatrical adaptations either. In fact, I’d say that those two films were pretty poor compared to the Curry mini-series. Those movies strayed too far from the book and tried to imitate Stranger Things.
Let us know your thoughts on IT, the original film, the book, and the two movies in the comments.

Who Goes There? The Thing: Infection at Outpost 31 Board Game!

Before Among Us, there was Who Goes There by John W. Campbell Jr. It would eventually be adapted by horror legend John Carpenter into an early ’80s movie called The Thing. It was a simple story of a shapeshifting alien and the paranoia experienced by a remote Antarctic outpost crew.
Now considered a classic, The Thing has had several triumphs outside of cinema with an amazing video game and comic book series. Now, the horror story at Outpost 31 can be relived in boardgame form thanks to Mondo and The Op Games.

Get ready to recruit fresh blood and tell a new tales this Fall, when The Thing: Infection at Outpost 31 comes back to covertly contaminate your game nights… and “nobody trusts anybody anymore.”
The game’s premise is in line with John Carpenter’s cinematic nightmare fuel from the 80’s: an alien lifeform has infiltrated the Antarctic research station where you and other scientists are dissecting an otherworldly guest. Lead a series of investigations to clear the building of the shapeshifting intruder, all the while with the imitator’s identity a total mystery to the crew!

I’d buy it just for the tokens. The game itself looks like it is a pretty simple affair. It reminds me of one of the A Nightmare on Elm Street board games from the late ’80s. Now, this is more of a game for when you’re hosting a big get-together as it requires a minimum of four people.
You either have to find The Thing and kill it or if you are The Thing, you have to destroy Outpost 31 or escape undetected with the other humans. So basically, you play the plot of the film. I noticed there was a dead Fuchs on the gameboard. That’s a cool touch.

Setup and components of the original have been preserved, with 4-8 players being assigned Blood Samples, using Supply and Sabotage cards to clear the Outpost, and fleeing the facility via helicopter with nothing getting in your way (or in this case, onboard). Newcomers to this release can anticipate updated rules that will make the imitation even harder to identify! It only takes one of three ways to lose to The Thing, so keep the contagion managed, the Outpost maintained, and the helicopter “humans only” to escape with your life and save humanity!

The game will ship on November 10th, 2021. Click here to pre-order it. Like other games of this scale, the price is $59.99.

The Vampirella Statue is fully sculpted and features two unique headsculpts to capture Vampi’s classic and modern era appearances. Her classic portrait features a more mischievous expression framed by dramatically arched brows and sleek, stylized bangs, giving her an air of sinister seduction. The modern portrait has a softer, more flirtatious expression with gently parted lips and feathery bangs that give her hair a more volumized look. Vampirella’s signature red costume is accented with a high white collar and gold jewelry accents, including her armband, bracelets, and earrings. A pair of glossy high-heeled boots completes the vampire’s enthralling ensemble, proving this daughter of Drakulon is beautiful enough to make even a dead heart beat.

I’m partial to the old-school Vamparilla face, myself. However, she had a resurgence in the mid-1990s. This also led to a lot more cosplays of vampire beauty. A friend of mine tried her hand at it a few times and said she had to get very inventive. It took a lot of double-sided tape and glue to keep the costume where it should be.
What are your thoughts on the character and her statue? Would Vamparilla even get a big-screen adaptation these days, or would she be seen as too problematic? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead Discusses Training For Netflix’s ‘Kate’

0

‘Kate’ is a Netflix action film that stars actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead as the titular protagonist. The story follows her after she is poisoned, using her skills as an assassin to search Tokyo for a cure. Reviews for the film have been mixed, but audiences seem to enjoy it, especially the action sequences.
Winstead recently spoke with Netflix about what drew her to the role of Kate and the grueling training needed to accomplish the stunts involved.
“I felt there was something really unusual about the script and the character in the sense that it was this really brutal, fierce action film, but there was something soft and emotional at its core that I really connected to,” she said of the role. “Kate has this tough outer shell, but there’s a soft girl inside. There’s a heart in there. She’s someone who’s been through terrible things. She’s poisoned, she’s dying, and it’s physically gross, but there’s still something beautiful underneath it all. And I thought that juxtaposition was really rare. Also to get to be that ugly and real and raw was something I found to be a really exciting prospect.”
Winstead explained, “Kate is actually the third film in a row where I’ve had to do heavy stunt work. The first one was Gemini Man and then Birds of Prey. So, this has really been an era in my life! I love working with the team at 87North. I’ve always loved stunt work, but they really took me to a different level and I just became incredibly comfortable in that world. They’re so positive, they’re your biggest cheerleaders, and they really want their actors to do it themselves. I felt really lucky to have the chance to do a little bit more with every film and take it a little bit further each time.”
“There was definitely a lot more gun action in this film than I’ve ever done before,” she continued. “I had a bit of gun training for Gemini Man and then for Birds of Prey, I used the crossbow and I didn’t actually do very much gun work in that one. So, I definitely had to step up my game. I trained at Taran Tactical in LA and had a great team of people in Thailand who were trained snipers in the military. They were on set every day and wouldn’t let me get away with anything that wasn’t correct, right down to the way you breathe when you’re pulling the trigger.”

Judge Judy Is Making A Return With New Streaming Series

0

Television staple Judy Sheindlin, known as the host of the iconic TV courtroom ‘Judge Judy,’ is making a return. IMDbTV announced that Sheindlin would be returning to the gavel with the new streaming series ‘Judy Justice.’ Set to premiere in November 2021, the show partners her honor with a new staff in the arbitration-based program.
Sheindlin said in a statement.”I am probably the luckiest on-air personality in the history of television to have had Randy Douthit and Amy Freisleben shepherd my program for over two decades. They continuously make me look good. With Judy Justice on IMDb TV, the magic continues.” She continued, “Our bailiff Kevin has been in charge of my security for the last three years. He comes from law enforcement, has a winning smile, a delightful personality, and is always professional. Whitney was a truly lucky find. A skilled court stenographer for 15 years, she brings warmth, great proficiency, and best of all, can refresh my memory in a heartbeat with her machine. I’ve known Sarah, our law clerk, since she was born. She will be a third-generation female lawyer in our family. She’s smart, sassy, and opinionated. Who knows where she gets those traits?”
IMDbTV released a teaser showing Judge Judy Sheindlin and her new courtroom team:

Joining her is the new team bailiff Kevin Rasco, a retired Los Angeles probation officer and entrepreneur, court stenographer Whitney Kumar, a board-certified court reporter in the state of California, and Sarah Rose, a law clerk, and Judge Sheindlin’s granddaughter.
Series executive producer and director Randy Douthit said, “Judy is a force of nature with a sense of humor. She has an unwavering commitment to justice, a deep understanding of human nature, and a very big heart. She inspires me and makes everyone around her want to do better.”
Co-executive producer Amy Freisleben added, “I was thrilled and humbled when Judy asked me to join her in this new journey as part of Judy Justice, this exciting new program for IMDb TV and Amazon Studios. Our staff has worked tirelessly to create what we know will be the next generation of courtroom television that will appeal to both Judy’s existing fans, as well as to streaming viewers.”
