X-Men’s Apocalypse Is Ancient But Still Tears Things Up In This Statue

0

It would appear Iron Studios have no plans on stopping when it comes to classic X-MEN statues. I’m not complaining, as I grew up reading mainly Uncanny X-MEN and Wolverine in the ’80s. However, seeing the mutants, both heroic and villainous, get statues celebrating their iconic status is refreshing when all of the post-modern media attempts to tear characters down.
The newest edition to the mutant dioramas depicts the super-being known as Apocalypse (En Sabah Nur). The ancient mutant is a devastating force as he is tearing apart a sentinel with one hand.
Or, if you prefer, showing off his powers of molecular manipulation by forming his arm into a cannon. Either, or if you pick up this deluxe Apocalypse statue for $349.99. He’ll be demanding your subservience in the fourth quarter of 2022.

With his massive gray body encased in armor created by the race of cosmic giants called the Celestials, the ancient Egyptian mutant uses his ability to control the molecules of his own body to shape his right fist of a plasma cannon or a large tapered combat drill. Showing all his fury and power, the Eternal Pharaoh, considered the first mutant of humanity, presents himself triumphant over a base full of wreckage and pieces of mechanical parts from the remains of a robotic Sentinel.

Apocalypse has yet to be successfully realized on film. Yes, we did get that X-MEN movie where Ivan Ooze pretended to be the god-like mutant, but the sooner we forget about that travesty, the better. Maybe he’ll be the big bad for Phase V of the MCU … if it ever gets there.
Let us all hope that we get a scene like this in the MCU version:

Why? Because it is problematic for some and because we haven’t had a sexy version of Rogue on-screen yet!

Relive The Early 2000s With Marvel Legends Series 1 Hulk!

Hasbro is continuing to delve into the origins of the Marvel Legends line by releasing another character from the long-running toylines first series. Hasbro Pulse announced that The Incredible Hulk would be joining Iron Man and Captain America figures next year with retro packaging and comic book backdrop.
Hulk will come with a ground-pounding effect base and two interchangeable heads. He is a bit of a pricy boy, too. Banner’s gamma-fueled rage monster is listed at $43.99. That’s more than twice as much as he cost in the early 2000s.
He can be pre-ordered directly from Hasbro now and has a release date of May 2022.

The Toy Biz Legends figures were hit or miss with faces. The team nailed them a lot of the time, especially when it came to actor likenesses. Then there were the oddities like nearly every female figure in the line. After Hasbro took over the line, there were trade-offs with quality in the overall builds and face sculpts.
Then there’s this Hulk. The original Legends Hulk had only an angry yelling face, but the weirdness was with the eyes. He looked like he was wearing mascara. He was going through a bad breakup or had just gotten home from a very interesting party. Hasbro left out the weird wash with this new release, but the face looks familiar…

Nora Denney?!
Warner Bros.
Yes, Mike Teevee’s mom from the classic Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory! Maybe this is Mrs. Teevee’s alter ego when someone points out that she doesn’t know as much about classical music as she says. Of course, we all know that the tune Wonka plays is NOT Rachmaninoff!
What do you think of the new figures based on the first Legends series? Are the prices of these figures deterring collectors? Let us know in the comments section below.

New Makoto Shinkai Movie is Revealed

0

At the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo a press conference was held to announce the new movie by Makoto Shinkai. The new movie is called “Suzume no Tojimari“, which translates to “Suzume’s Door-Locking“. The anime movie is set to open in Japan in the fall of 2022.

The director, screenwriter, and original story creator, Makoto Shinkai describes the movie as action-oriented film, set in modern day times. The main character is 17 year old Suzume who comes from a quiet Kyushu town. Suzume meets a young man who is looking for a door. They find a door within ruins in the mountain, and Suzume opens it. Soon, more doors begin to open around Japan, bringing disasters from the other side. The film depicts Suzume’s liberation and growth, as she closes the doors that are causing disaster.

Makoto Shinkai noted three important points about the film: It is a road movie that takes place all over Japan, a story about “closing doors” as opposed to “opening doors”, and a reason to visit the movie theaters.

After fans saw the movies “Your Name” and “Weathering With You“, Shinkai would get requests for his next movie to showcase their town. So Shinkai tried to think of a way to show different parts of Japan in one movie. A move he admits to being indulgent, making this a very audacious film.

Unlike opening doors, Shinkai explained that closing doors could refer to identifying individual opportunities that we lost and finding proper closure in order to move forward. Starting something can be easier than ending something.

Makoto Shinkai wanted to create a film that would bring people to the movie theater. Streaming has become the norm and easy to enjoy on your own time. But there is something special about being a dark room with a big screen, the feeling of being so immersed in a story through the visuals and sounds.

Mone Kamishiraishi, who voice Mitsuha in “Your Name“, and Nana Mori, who voiced Hina in “Weathering With You“, were also guest speakers at the press conference. Both of them explained having already seen the storyboards for the film and gave their impressions of the story and what they took from the messaging of the film and what it meant to them.

Makoto Shinkai’s other anime films include 5 Centimeters Per Second, Voices of a Distant Star, She and Her Cat, The Place Promised in Our Early Days, The Garden of Words, and Children Who Chase Lost Voices.

Doctor Strange’s New Hot Toys Figure Is Far From Home

After watching the trailers for Spider-Man: Far From Home, I’m wondering if Marvel is setting Doctor Strange up for a heel turn. You think the master of mysticism would know better than tampering with anything that could mess up the multiverse.
Hot Toys had its hands full when it came to the MCU’s Doctor Strange. He has a load of special effects associated with him in each movie, and what would his action figure be without a way to represent his mystical magic? As a result, you’ll get a lot of accessories with the upcoming figure that can be pre-ordered through Sideshow right now for $315.
Strange will be taking his sweet time coming to our universe, though. He isn’t expected to be here until January or March 2023.

‘The King’s Man’ Final Trailer Released

0

The final trailer for the British spy thriller ‘The King’s Man’ has dropped the week before its scheduled release in theaters. The film serves as a prequel to 2014’s ‘The Kingsman: The Secret Service’ and its 2017 subsequent sequel.
Originally slated to be released in November 2019, the movie was pushed back several times due to pandemic lockdown mandates affecting cinemas.
The plot is described as follows, “As a collection of history’s worst tyrants and criminal masterminds gather to plot a war to wipe out millions, one man must race against time to stop them. Discover the origins of the very first independent intelligence agency in The King’s Man.”
You can check out the trailer below:

The movie sees the return of director Matthew Vaughn who has worked on every film thus far in the franchise. It stars Ralph Fiennes, Gemma Arterton, Rhys Ifans, Matthew Goode, Tom Hollander, Harris Dickinson, Daniel Brühl, Djimon Hounsou, and Charles Dance.
“Get up close and personal with the villains of 20th Century Studios’ The King’s Man and watch the action-packed, brand-new trailer released today. The King’s Man, a prequel to Matthew Vaughn’s Kingsman films set in the World War I era, brings historical villains to life with larger-than-life personas and Vaughn’s signature style and thrilling action. Check them out—from Mata Hari to Rasputin—and get ready to see them all in action next Wednesday, December 22, when The King’s Man hits theaters,” Disney said on their website.
The movies are based on the Icon Comics series ‘The Secret Service,’ created by writer Mark Millar and artist Dave Gibbons. Originally, MI6 was frequently mentioned in the comic books, but following the release of the newer graphic novels they were removed as the series was retooled as “Kingsman.”
A third film is planned as well as a spin-off titled “Statesmen.”

Pirate Santa and Jack Frost Join The Naughty or Nice Toy Line

0

The last time we checked in on Fresh Monkey Fiction’s Naughty or Nice toy line, the company took pre-orders for the Artist’s Proof Santa. While browsing the Big Bad Toy Store, I came across two new Santa action figures and Jack Frost!
Previously we’d covered Santa variants like Cyborg Santa and Robo Santa. Now we finally get Pirate Santa! Complete with a candy cane hook and peg-leg, this guy maybe the best of the line. OK, I may be biased because I come from Tampa, the home of the Bucs.
Aside from Pirate Claus, there is also a more traditional Chris Cringle called Jolly Santa. This version of Father Christmas comes with a new head sculpt with a different bear, glasses, and a darker skin tone. He also has a few unique accessories like a pipe and bell.
The third figure is another elf with a frosty blue color scheme. Add that to the character, and you’ve got Jack Frost. Jack comes with the same alternate heads that the other elves have, but they too are molded in what looks like translucent blue plastic. It may just be solid blue plastic. Hard to tell from the images.

Pirate Santa is $49.99, and Jolly Santa is priced lower at $36.99. Since Jack Frost is a more petite figure, he will only run you $19.99. All of the figures in this line are slated for release during the fourth quarter of 2022.
Remember that these are somewhat crowdfunded because they’re made in small batches. So, if not enough orders for these are received, they may not be made. Check out Fresh Monkey Fiction’s website for more info.

Make ‘First Contact’ With The Borg Queen’s Skull Replica

0

The Borg Queen met with a rather sticky end during the conclusion of Star Trek First Contact. Though she tried to change the destiny of mankind by destroying our first successful moment of warp travel, her plans were foiled by Data. A quick dip in a cloud of toxic gas and the matriarch of the Collective was no more … for a little while.
What remained of the Borg Queen is now available as a highly detailed replica from Factory Entertainment. Constructed out of “polyurethane resin with an electroplated chrome finish,” this prop is something to behold. In addition, the prop is fitted with LED lighting to replicate the final moments of the Queen’s life in that body.
The amazing Alice Krige has signed each plaque for this limited edition prop. This isn’t some thousand pieces run; only 250 are being made. Factory Entertainment expects to ship these out by First Contact Day (April 5th) 2022.

Our Borg Queen Skull Signature Edition Replica has been copied directly from the surviving prop in the CBS archives to ensure accuracy.
The main body of the replica is cast from heavyweight polyurethane resin with an electroplated chrome finish. The replica is augmented by various plastic and rubber parts to match the original prop and features an articulated spinal cord. On screen the prop was presented as being heavily damaged by corrosive plasma, so each replica has been hand-weathered to lend a ‘battle damaged’ appearance.

What are your favorite Borg Queen moments? I like her sparing with Janeway, but Krige’s performance in Star Trek First Contact was special. Only the woman who made specters sexy in Ghost Story could make the Borg Collective look so alluring.

Marvel Comics Reveals Clea As Dr. Strange’s Sorcerer Supreme Replacement

0

Doctor Strange might have worked as an Avenger, Defender, and the Sorcerer Supreme, but those days are over for now with the announcement that Marvel Comics is replacing him with his longtime partner Clea starting with the first issue of ‘Strange.’
“With Doctor Strange dead, another sorcerer has taken the title, or should we say Sorceress? Clea, mistress of the Dark Dimension and Stephen Strange’s powerful partner, will rise to the challenge of defending earth from mystical and otherworldly danger in writer Jed MacKay’s STRANGE #1,” Marvel says on their website. “Featuring artwork by AMAZING SPIDER-MAN artist Marcelo Ferreira, this all-new ongoing series will spin directly out of the story still unfolding in MacKay’s DEATH OF DOCTOR STRANGE. Readers should stay tuned to the hit limited series to see the tragedy and drama that leads into this exciting turn of events!”
They describe the plot as follows, “Haunted by her recently returned memories, Clea longs to bring Stephen Strange back from the dead! But when a mysterious group attacks the magical realm, Clea, now the sole protector of Earth against magical threats must rise to the duties of Sorcerer Supreme. Don’t miss the shocking twists, new villains, and unbelievable magical feats as Clea takes Marvel magic to places it’s never gone before!”
Marvel Comics also released a first look of the cover by artist Björn Barends:

“After the apocalyptic events of THE DEATH OF DOCTOR STRANGE, there’s a new Sorcerer Supreme in residence at 177A Bleecker Street, and a new Doctor Strange—Clea Strange. And she’s got her work cut out for her—when she’s not fighting off the magical gangsters of the Blasphemy Syndicate, or battling undead super-monsters, she’s going after what’s hers: the late Stephen Strange. Clea is of the Faltine, that race of Warlords and conquerors, and like her relatives Dormammu and Umar, she will not be thwarted in her desires, not even by the mysterious Harvestman standing in her way,” McKay said of the issue.“It’s been really exciting to open up a new chapter in the world of Doctor (Clea) Strange, to get some new adventures going and some new weirdies on the table, and I can’t wait for folks to come along with us!”
The comic book will be released on March 2, 2022.

1

‘Sing A Bit Of Harmony’ is a science fiction drama anime co-produced by the Japanese production company J.C. Staff and Funimation. It was directed by Yasuhiro Yoshiura, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Ichirō Ōkouchi. The movie had its premiere in Japan on October 29, 2021. As their first co-production, Funimation announced that they are bringing the film to North America with an English dub.

And on another high note, let’s give a resounding welcome to the English dub cast and crew who’ll be bringing this film’s joyous characters to life…”
Funimation continues, “Caitlin Glass leads the English dub crew as ADR Director, with Brina Palencia as ADR Song Director. Megan Shipman (SSSS.DYNAZENON) will be lending her voice to Shion, an android transfer student that’s anything but robotic, and Risa Mei (My Senpai is Annoying) will play Satomi. They’re joined by a whole choir of talent, including Jordan Dash Cruz (SHADOWS HOUSE) as Toma, Ian Sinclair (The Vampire Dies in No Time) as Gotchan, Alexis Tipton (Fire Force) as Aya and Kamen Casey as Thunder.”
The movie will have a limited run in theaters on January 23, 25, and 26 before heading to the Funimation streaming service.
You can watch the trailer below:

MyAnimeList describes the synopsis as follows:
“Sing a Bit of Harmony tells the story of the beautiful and mysterious Shion who transfers to Keibu High School where she quickly becomes popular due to her open-hearted personality and exceptional athletic talent…but she turns out to be an AI in the testing phase!
Shion’s goal is to bring chronic loner Satomi “happiness.” However, her strategy is something no human would expect: she serenades Satomi in the middle of the classroom. After finding out that Shion is an AI, Satomi and her childhood friend, engineering geek Touma, steadily warm up to the new student. Along with the popular and attractive Gocchan, the strong-willed Aya, and judo club member “Thunder,” they become more and more moved by Shion’s singing and earnestness even as her antics bewilder them. But what Shion does for Satomi’s sake ends up involving them all in some serious pandemonium. Get ready for the heartwarming story of a not quite market-ready AI and her classmates!”
The film was pre-screened at the Glasglow Film Theatre for the Scotland Loves Animation film festival on October 2, 2021, where it won the Audience Award.
